I had never seen this match until now. Since people cite it as the match that "got Kronik fired" I figured it wasn't worth seeing.
Honestly? Maybe standards have lowered since then, but this match wasn't THAT bad. It wasn't fantastic or anything - don't go out of your way to see it - and the last minute was pretty ugly (complete with a VERY audible "

!" from 'Taker after they

ed up a jawbreaker) but it was a perfectly passable "three star" brawl.
Maybe I don't get how wrestling matches are supposed to go, but I was going to agree with you for the most part. Given Kronik's WCW persona (big guys who squashed everybody), it appeared early in the match that their cardinal sin was trying to portray themselves as peers of UT and Kane. God forbid a match appear to be competitive, or that the heels in the match appear to be winners. But WWE has gone with a "don't come across as *too much* of a threat" line of thought with their heels for the longest time that parity between opponents is somewhat of a shock.
But then I honed in on Brian Adams. Clarke did some selling, I guess. But I think Clark's biggest

up in the eyes of the WWF was when UT/Kane were alternating corner splashes on Kronik. As Kane went for the final splash on Clark, you saw Adams stand up from the corner and simply walk normally back to his corner across the tv screen. I could imagine WWF producers screaming bloody murder, mostly about Adams, in that match. Adams really came off in the match like he'd rather be anywhere but there. His action in the match really conveyed a "

this shit" attitude to me. Much like the Paul Roma match against Alex Wright that got him shitcanned from WCW.
It wasn't a bad match, sure, and the exact same match against opponents with less locker room pull than UT/Kane probably wouldn't have resulted in them being fired. And just maybe Kronik getting in offense pissed off WWF producers, since the match didn't follow the DDP/Kanyon vs UT/Kane match scripts of "stand there and get beat up," and DDP/Kanyon kept their jobs.
Egos interfere and blow something into legendary proportions, I guess.
