The Star Trek III (Back from the Dead) Thread

Next Gen is done with. Trying to bring those characters back now just wouldn't work. Not as an entire crew anyway. Maybe individual characters.

I'm not sure what exactly would work the best, but it would be nice to have a proper send-off for the TNG crew. As it stands now, they haven't really had an "ending," they just kinda stopped making movies. Whereas TOS crew got a nice send-off in a movie that was deliberately designed to be their last.

Meanwhile DS9 really doesn't need to be touched... sure I'd love to see more, but the series ended with such an air of finality and pretty much completed everyone's story.

I really wouldn't mind Riker and his adventures on the Titan as a series.

I hate that Nemesis sucked too, but think of this: TOS didn't get a proper series finale, and TNG got a fantastic one.

But yeah, the movies came later.

Oh that's true. But when you put it that way I'm kind of glad it didn't. If it was going to suck anyway, I'd rather it didn't have a sequence like that.

Actually, I think it sort of did but it was cut, right? With Madden replacing Riker or something...
I really wouldn't mind Riker and his adventures on the Titan as a series.
Yeah, that's the only way i can see any TNG characters reprising roles. Riker was a good character, wouldn't mind a show with him as captain.

True, it didn't feel like they ended up as Heroes of the Federation. Star Trek 6 was so well written and gave the crew one great send off that I have NOT seen in any other series/movies done so well in the years that followed. Nothing could top that.

It's been 7 years, so it ain't gonna happen... unless the producers take JMS' idea and do a lost tales, but that won't happen either with the new movie coming out in a few months.

Video no longer available. Was it the trailer that aired during the Super Bowl? Why would those idiots not want that on YouTube?

Not to worry it should show up on the official site or on XBL soon.

I'm glad I didn't buy the DVDs. But what's with the "Featuring Kirk and Spock"? I think we know what marketing is trying to say. ;)

LOL... what's TNG gonna say? "Featuring The Bald British Guy and the Emotionless Android"
I guess they realize no one wants TNG crap movies. :)
It just occurred to me that they're probably trying to take advantage of the new movie's focus on Kirk and Spock. Those geniuses in marketing - what will they think of next?

first look at older Spock (Nimoy) in the new Trek

http://trekmovie.com/2009/03/22/leonard-nimoy-talks-about-his-return-to-spock/

This alternate Timeline thing better be explained properly or it's going to really piss off the fans.

I really thought Nimoy was going to play Sarek (spock's father), but he is going to play the same person, just older :whistle2:s and meets his younger self.

So I take it the Klingons will not make it into this one either?

That was at the end of one of the trailers a while back. Thanks for using the spoiler tag, I'm trying to avoid seeing too many spoilers this time. (I made the mistake of not doing that for Nemesis.)
The new Star Trek movie is VERY GOOD? The Dark Knight level good? The Wrath of Khan level good? So says these people (among the first who watched the movie ever)

My anticipation for this movie is VERY HIGH now. It seems like it will be a good movie for movie fans and Star Trek fans and hopefully this will launch a new Star Trek series as well.
I read about the special preview that occurred in Texas on Monday. I was like holy fucking cow!!! The movie is done, yet everyone else has to wait a MONTH to see it yet these fuckers got to see it early...god damn you cloverfield guy!!

It's going to be hard to tell who is going to be the blockbuster of this Summer.
Iron Man and TDK were neck and neck...but Star Trek, Transformers, Wolveriene...man this is going to be nuts!!
Well i doubt wolverine will be the winner.
nevermind, carry on. Wolverine looks ok. We all know how that movie will end with him losing his memory right that will lead in to the first xmen movie?

Ok, I just read the completed Star Trek: Countdown graphic novel (the prequel to the new movie)

BIG SPOILERS!!!!

-It supposedly takes place 20 some years after Nemesis.
-Spock is living on Romulas as a citizen.
-Some star goes nova and blows up another planet that some how makes it stronger :whistle2:?
-Nero is a miner that witnesses this event.
-Spock tries to convince the Romulan Senate that the threat will reach Romulas and the rest of the galaxy.
-The Romulans ignore Spock.
-Spock and Nero team up.
-Nero's mining ship (the narada) is attacked by Remans (and their Scimtars (sp?) from Nemesis...ok....)
-Enterprise-E under Captain Data saves them.
-Spock, Data, Picard, Nero talk...but Nero gets pissed when the Vulcan's won't help save Romulas.
-Nero leaves to save what he can, but the Star's shockwave blows up Romulas, including his pregnant wife. Blames Spock for all of this (OK?!?!?!?)
-Shaves his head, and tattoos himself, saves the Romulan Senate, takes some weird staff and kills some of them.
-Nero and crew goes to some secret Romulan base where the Narada is upgraded and grafted with some weird Borg/Shadow type of technology. (OK!?!?!????????????)
-Goes on a Revenge Rampage killing everything that is in his path on his way to Vulcan.
-Fights General Worf's fleet and ultimately kills Worf on his ship.
-On Vulcan Geordi helps build a ship that will be used to penetrate the Star and using some Red Matter thing they hope they can make a black hole to stop the Star from destroying the galaxy.
-Spock takes the ship (known as the Jellyfish) and creates the black hole.
-The Nerada gets sucked into the Blackhole and so does Spock.
-The blackhole stops the star.

this is where it leads into Star Trek 2009, where the openning battle between the Nerada and the Kelvin occurs in the beginning of the movie. So basically the new Star Trek is basically set in another universe. So it is in a way a reboot/continuation of the series. I really wonder if Spock Prime (which makes sense that he is given this title in the credits now that I read the graphic novel) dies stoping Nero or saving the other Spock. Killing Younger Spock will have no affect on Spock Prime's universe.
What is that about Data? He should be dead.
In the graphic novel it says that Data's memory ingrams (or whatever) has been successfully transferred into B4's body...so Data just got downloaded into B4 and that's it. Now he's Captain of the Enterprise-E!

No mention of Troy or Riker. Would have been interesting if this would have been actually filmed for the new movie...but then again it would have confused movie go'ers and if I know correctly Stewart and Spiner would have asked for mega bucks for a cameo like that.

It's a good graphic novel...worth picking up!
Why no
Troy or Riker
? And is
Picard an Admiral in it if Data is captain of the Enterprise?
I dunno...
There is no mention of the Doctor, 7 of 9, the EMH, Voyager , DS9 or anything else. Picard is an Ambassador. Looks like the bridge of the E got holographic displays. It's very short and to the point. You could probably read it in 10-15 minutes at the book store.

That confused the living fuck out of me.

From what the reviews of the screening were saying it's explained very quickly by Spock without most of that crap:

- Spock goes with Nero to Vulcan to get them to help stop Romulus from getting destroyed.
- Vulcan refuses to help
- Nero goes back to Romulus, witnesses the planet getting blown up with his family still on it
- Nero seeks revenge on Spock, when they both get brought back in time due to the mysterious compound that could have saved Romulus

but of course..

Spock doesn't know how Nero got his ship upgraded like that.

Kinda worries me, that Borg Technology is being used like that and now in another universe. Makes you wonder if JJ is going to re-invent the Borg down the road... Considering how powerful this ship is (the upgraded Narada), my guess is that it's going to be blown up from the inside. Then again Spock fails to save Romulus because in the comic Romulus stays destroyed. So there you have it, Romulus will be destroyed in the future. Oh well.
So it's no longer just spock reminiscing about the past, he and this guy actually get sent back.
I think in the film they don't actually explain how they got back until the middle when they do
a "how the hell did you get here?" "Oh let me tell you in this brief flashback sequence"

I believe the movie's cold open is
the attack on the Kelvin, before it's explained how he got there

I wouldn't be surprised if they
completely cut out any mention of the Borg technology

But ya, that's going to be quite the shakeup for the "original" timeline
with Romulus being destroyed.
