Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Anyone know if this would register on steam? http://www.getgamesgo.com/Product/frozen-synapse

Frozen Synapse 2 pack for $12.47
It's not on the almighty list: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-wusf-3601

However, I do believe that keys straight from the developer's site work. Usually in those situations it only works from the developer's site and no where else, but I am not 100% on this one.

I do have an extra copy on steam from when I made my purchase, so if you're looking just for yourself, give me a PM and we can talk about it.

Frozen Synapse is not tied to Steam like a proper Steamworks game. I think to them, Steam is just an extra means of marketing, hence having a separate online key. If you bought from them and got a free copy, you could download that from their website.

Oddly enough, you CAN do that without the free copy key and play that "free" copy offline. Not exactly legit but not piracy. It was the demo I needed to go for the game.

Great thread!!

Yeah, Frozen Synapse is a must-have for me, but I figured I'd wait for a good deal since I have so much to play. On the other hand, I ought to support it! Shoulda bought a two-pack during the summer sale and split it with someone.

I've put more hours into Dungeons of Dredmor than I have anything bought during the Summer Sale.

Outside of my accidental indoctrination during my youth with the masochistic Fatal Labyrinth on the Genesis, I'm not really a fan of Rogue-likes (maybe Shiren) so the humor and UI go a long way towards making me tolerate the genre again.

Very relaxing game despite the difficulty and default permadeath. Definitely a gem of a surprise for $5.

I found Mr. Robot to be a fun game that was ruined by a poor control scheme. The platforming/timing puzzles were extremely frustrating with the isometric view and made things harder than they needed to be, imo. I'd recommend trying the demo first if you're interested.
Daily Deal:

Mr. Robot 66% off ($3.40)

Got this in one of those indie packs in the Christmas sale. All in all, I had a pretty good time playing it. The battles aren't particularly thrilling, but the puzzle elements, and to a certain degree, the platforming elements were pretty fun.

Edit: BTW, if you care about achievements, be forewarned that one of the achievements in this game is glitched and is impossible to get. Over on the developer's website, he basically admits that he has no idea how to correct this problem.

This game came out a relatively long time ago, so it's just likely that they didn't bother to encode it higher when they made the video.

I guess search online and see what key that retail version has?
If I buy Fallout: New Vegas at Walmart (has GFWL on the packaging) can I redeem it on Steam?
Yes, you can. Its a steamworks game. I bought my copy from Direct2Drive but activated it and played it on Steam.

Who's in charge of that? I requested an invite a couple days ago and still haven't got one.
Thanks! I got a $5 gift card to Walmart and will probably pick up New Vegas for $15. Kinda regret not purchasing it during the summer sale.
At this point you're probably better off saving your money for the inevitable GOTY edition.
At this point you're probably better off saving your money for the inevitable GOTY edition.
Walmart really has nothing else I want though. I want something under $20 and there's just nothing else.

You have no interest in (or need for) food, beverages, or toiletries? I'd spend $5 on any of those before over-spending on F:NV.
You have no interest in (or need for) food, beverages, or toiletries? I'd spend $5 on any of those before over-spending on F:NV.
I could spend it on those things. I am moving into an apartment in a few weeks. But I rather have a game that will last awhile. Not sure what I'll do, but thanks everyone.
Who's in charge of that? I requested an invite a couple days ago and still haven't got one.
Anyone from the group can invite. I'll shoot you one right now.

Surprisingly enough, I don't believe I'm part of the CAG Steam Group, either. Would anyone be nice enough to send an invite my way? (If I understand the username/nickname setup with Steam, I believe I'm Eternal Runner.)

Also, I want to state that I like Altitude's new art. The woman with a revealing outfit represented the game in a very negative light; It actually put me off the game because I thought it was pandering to make up for potential shortcomings. I'm not trying to be mean-spirited about the whole deal, but that's how I perceived it.

Nah just get the game. $15 is a good price, plus the dlc has gone on sale a few times on steam for like 3 bucks.
There are plenty of us in the CAG Community thread who could use an invite: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147902&page=800

Honestly I don't see much benefit to making the group private since this is such a large and open community, but that's just me.
There is a problem with bots and/or malicious users on Steam joining popular and public groups, and then spamming or phishing. Keeping a group private helps keep those out.
Nah just get the game. $15 is a good price, plus the dlc has gone on sale a few times on steam for like 3 bucks.
I went ahead and bought it. It's downloading now! I saw the DLC went on sale for dirt cheap during the summer sale. I hope that happens again soon!

That's true. It's silly that the group owners/officers can't kick people out of public groups. With that said, having to go through a thread in order to join a group is too much trouble IMO, so I still prefer public groups.

BTW, thanks for the kind words, everybody! Great to see how many people have migrated to the new thread already. I still won't be able to update the OP every day, so I appreciate everyone's help in keeping the first post updated and properly formatted.

As far as I know the only time the DLC has been on sale was the past summer sale. So I would guess that the next time the DLC is on sale will probably be black friday/christmas sale that Valve always does.

Speaking of which, I bought both DLC's that were on sale and I am loving them. They add so much more charm and story, and are much better than FO3's DLC.

You are most welcome, bro. I love seeing a well-done thread like this one. It should be the standard for anyone making a thread.

Hey, do you think we could put info about the main CAG Steam group up at the top so people will see it easier and get invites. It would be great to have as many CAGs as we can. Just an idea. Thanks again!

So, Pride of Nations. It's on sale for 50% off and I was wondering if anyone here has played it or has any impressions on it? There seems to be a complete lack of content except for a 3-4 month old developer preview and trailers on youtube for it. I'm wondering how it compares to Victoria 2?

Don't be as dumb as RollingSkull. Avoid buying these Steam games.

Yar's Revenge: Looks like a good Sin and Punishment clone. Lots of pretty stuff to look at the and dialogue is actually pretty darn neat. Shame the gameplay is just dreadfully boring. With the exception of as far as I can remember ONE pattern from the stage 5 boss, I went through the entire game just spinning the left stick around to fly in circles around the screen and was in no real danger.

The Scourge Project: Looks like low budget Gears of War on the Unreal engine with a sci-fi motif that at least LOOKS nice even if the character models all seem like Unreal rejects. At heart, it's competent but dull as hell. Just play Gears again.

Steam's Site is fucking up again.

Daily Deal
Shattered Horizons- $5
4 Pack- $15

Any thoughts? It says it requires a DX10 card and Win 7 to play.

Shattered horizon is a truly fun game , but has a pretty dead online community. They patched in bots to let the games be more full, so if that doesn't bother you it will be a good buy.

SH was pretty wild at launch for me, it was a damn good looking game that required hardware I didn't have and it had gameplay I'd never really dealt with before, except playing Descent on Playstation for a little bit as a wee lad.

The game's glaring flaws soon showed though. Lack of variety in maps and weapons, strange chokeholdy combat centered around flinging grenades. The community soon started to atrophy. Content patches came with enthusiasm from the devs, but it wasn't enough to resurrect the game. It's definitely a different game than at launch. For better or for worse, I'm not sure.

The devs had good sense though, and as a final thanks, they patched in bots. It's not a bad way to kill time, and is a great benchmark for new hardware. I'd say pick it up if you don't mind taking a leap on a smaller game. I will tell you that few multiplayer games feel as atmospheric as SH when you turn off your suit, look in to space, and only hear your breath.

paradox games are 50% this week at greenmangaming and gamersgate, so steam keys for magicka and magicka dlc is 50% off
