Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

The new DLC for Dragon Age 2 came out today; this is probably the best explanation for the removal of the game from Steam. From what I've gathered, Steam's new policy is not to allow games to sell exclusive DLC on another digital platform. However, this cannot be retroactive as Mass Effect 1 +2, Bioshock, etc all have DLC unavailable on Steam.

The newer game, Dirt 3 would also fall under this, so there must be some technicality to the rule.

EA is still Valve's premier publisher for console games, which makes this little tissy between Steam and Origin even dumber. Who the heck thought this was a good business decision to try to butt heads with Steam?

Just discussed the removal of DA2 with my wife. We both had it in our wishlists waiting for a deep discount or possible winning of the summer raffle.

Our shared feelings on the matter, in short, are that if it's not available on Steam and we don't want it on consoles, oh well. We're not likely to ever get it.

It should go without saying that this is likely not what EA was hoping for with its Origin service, but there you have it.

Kinda bummed about DA2. I loved the first game and was hoping to catch the second during a reasonable sale (reasonable being sub-$20 based on what I've read about the game).

Not much talk about Critical Mass... today's deal. Has no one played it? It seems to have pretty decent review scores.
Looks like Dragon Age 2 was removed from Steam today. Still haven't played DA:O which I bought during the summer sale, so I'm not sure how upset I should be over this. I heard a lot of talk that DA2 was pretty bad, though.

In any event, it looks like the feud between EA & Steam is still going on.
Well, there goes having both DAOU and DA2 on my Steam list.
What happens to the people who've already bought DA2? Do they still have it?
Games that are removed from Steam for whatever reason remain in your Steam list and available for download at any time.

I'd recommend checking out a gameplay video on youtube and also the steam forum for the game. the developer actually posts there quite frequently and answers questions. From what I've seen and read, I haven't actually played it yet so this is all second hand info, the game is rather difficult (even on the lowest difficulty level) and you can't save/resume your progress. The basic premise is you have a 3d rubix cube looking object and you need to place different colored blocks to match 4 or more of the same color, if you take too long then the cube gets bigger and bigger and eventually explodes and you have to start over. If you have the patience for potentially a hard puzzle game and don't mind starting over each time you go to play it it looks to be pretty good.

Don't be disappointed about da2. If you didn't buy it already then hopefully this has saved you from ever having to play da2. The game is easily the worst game I have played this year and the worst game I have ever payed full price for. Beat it in 3 days, uninstalled and never played again.
God, I hate EA.

EA and Ubisoft are both on my do-not-buy list and I do the best I can to stick to it.
I can somewhat understand EA, though I'm not personally annoyed enough at them yet to turn my back on their games. But what did Ubisoft do to earn your ire? Just curious.

Ubisoft was the king of dumbass DRM for a while. Personally, I never liked many of their games until Splinter Cell Conviction. I did just buy all three Assassin Creeds though. Hoping they will turn out to be pretty good when I get a chance to play them.

Ubisoft isn't retiring from the DRM game. They just took it off the bigger older games in an update. HAWX 2 still has it but HAWX 2 sucks.

HAWX 1 both doesn't suck and doesn't have DRM.

That said, they make good stuff usually, sometimes great. Conviction, AC, HAWX 1, Outland, Clash of Heroes, Dark Messiah

From the people who made Recettear, they have a new game releasing on Steam in english this Friday:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/70420/

Should be 10% off the first week of its release. Unless it's more than $20, I'll probably be buying it since I got a lot of game time from Recettear.

And their current project they're (Publishers) working on (I think it's from the same dev as Recettear/Chantelise? From another Japanese indie developer named Lizsoft): http://www.carpefulgur.com/drakblog/?p=17

Excellent information! I saw Chantilese was releasing, and I slapped it on my wishlist to keep an eye on it. I got a TON of playtime out of Recettear and consider it one of the best games in all those Indie bundles.

Fortune Summoners looks pretty good too. Will definitely keep an eye on it.

Did you ever get the feeling that Bioware had designed this game to be a huge expansion pack for DA1 but EA shoehorned it into being DA2 so they could charge twice as much?

To me I disliked Dragon Age 2 because it was essentially the same thing as Mass Effect 2 except instead of shooting you had action RPG combat. It was you would go to an area, walk until you get into a mass effect 2 like combat sequence, kill them and then repeat.

Ubisoft: "You must have a constant internet connection to play offline games"

Customer: "But that is not fair."

Ubisoft: "I don't care. We're stopping piracy."

Customer: "Never mind I pirated a copy with no restrictions."

Ubisoft: "It's working! derp."

Lets not forget all their social networking shit too. I'm looking at you Settlers 7. :puke:

Faerie Solitaire is great, my most played game from the summer sale. It's similar to Tri Peaks or Golf Solitaire. Well worth the $1.70.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/38600/?snr=1_4_4__106

Faerie Solitaire is the deal of the day, it's $1.70

Don't know much about it other then uh I guess it's some form of Solitaire?
It's a fun, very casual game. There's something of a plot, although if you don't want to pay attention, there's no need to. Each "level" consists of 10 or so "hands", which are just the same solitaire game with different layouts. You earn cash and find eggs you can hatch.

It sounds kinda stupid, but there's a lot of heart there, and it's really surprisingly fun. I recently formatted my computer, and I ended up losing my saved game, which actually really frustrated me.

For $1.70, it's well worth it.

I played Faerie Solitaire until the end of the game, putting at least 15 hours into it. There's a lot of play, and it's a lighthearted romp. I enjoyed the collectible eggs and earning all the unlockables and achievements.

Okay, I just spent the last hour-and-a-half with the game and everyone is right about it. Definitely worth the price, and then some. I like the powerup purchases as well as the creatures you can level up. It's quite relaxing and good fun.

I got Faerie Solitaire in an Indie 5-pack once and played it a good while. It comes off like a kid game but can be relaxing and enjoyable. In short, it's a good solitaire game with odd bits of collection and customization and incentive to replay stages for perfection and achievements. Worth the $1.70.

Another vouch for Faerie Solitaire.

Also, too late for the sale, but I can report that Critical Mass was a good buy at less than $2. There are lots of modes, including a meditative, laid back variation if you just want to chill.

Hi gang I am new to blops on PC.

My issue is with settings not saving randomly. I'll go in to multiplayer settings and get everything how I like it. Next time I play some of the settings are back to default. This didn't happen on the 360. I could go back and everything was just how I wanted it. It's sort of a pain to have to remember to go in there every time I go to start a game and change all the settings. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

Less importantly, Is there a way to make it not change maps when one match ends and another begins? I like getting cozy on one map and chilling there sometimes. This also worked on the 360 version but on the Steam version it changes the map on me.

The weird thing is that sometimes it only changes some of the settings and not others. Time limit and score limit but now difficulty and stuff. Usually. This is weird and annoying.

Thank you, Steam buddies!

tldr: BLOPS won't save my settings.

Try right clicking on Black Ops shortcut in Steam and select 'properties'. Select 'local files' and select 'verify integrity of game cache...'.

Might help. It helped fixed for me where the game thought I had a different hardware configuration every time I started it up.

If you want to play on a single map there are many 24/7 map servers (mostly nuketown). Just look for them in the server browser.

To me da2 was nothing more than a cash grab. The elements which made origins one of the finest rpgs I have played were completely removed. Interesting story, varied and interesting game world, strategy, and tough decisions are all gone. The only thing these games have in common is a name.

I would give you an answer if I knew, but you may find better support in the Steam forums for Black Ops:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=997

I do know that maps rotate based on the server you're playing on. Some servers offer different rotation schedules and different maps. Keep searching 'til you find one you like.

Anyone interested in point and click adventure games should give Runaway a try.

It's definitely one of the good ones out there, I got it during the last winter sale

Yeah, the DRM is pure shit, I'll give you that. I'd forgotten as they'd patched it out of the two PC games I own that have that (AC2/ACB). I really wish at the very least they would: make it a single internet check like with ACB, and then do what Sega did with Alpha Protocol and patch it out after, say, a year. At that point piracy will be a much smaller issue and sales will already be low anyways, so they stand to lose little. DRM is only good at delaying the inevitable. After it happens, there's no reason to keep it.

In my dream world, all Ubisoft games become Steamworks since it accomplishes much of the same thing without being a kick to the balls of the honest consumer.

Hopefully Dino-D isn't the weekend deal. I really wish the weekend deal would be Crysis 2 or Dragon Age 2....Yes i know neither is on steam, but i can dream, but seriously hoping for a good deal on something, its been long enough after the Summer Sale to start doing some good deals again . (Batman AA is a good deal, but i cant think of a good reason why someone wouldnt have it by now)

Yeah I'm hoping that Dino D-Day isn't the the weekend deal either. But it looks like we're not going to be seeing Crysis2/DA2 on Steam for a long time. And that makes me sad.
