Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?

I'm interested in getting the Divine Wind expansion to Europa Universalis III, but I'm not sure if it will register to my steam account where I already have EUIII Complete and Heir to the Throne. I would appreciate any help.

I noticed it doesn't appear on the list of redeemable retail keys, but I'm hoping there's a way

Edit: After doing some searching, I don't think it will work. I'll just wait until the expansions go on sale on Steam again.
Don't be as dumb as RollingSkull. Avoid buying these Steam games.

The Scourge Project: Looks like low budget Gears of War on the Unreal engine with a sci-fi motif that at least LOOKS nice even if the character models all seem like Unreal rejects. At heart, it's competent but dull as hell. Just play Gears again.
+9000 to this. It looks like a pretty cool game based on it's store page but it's literally unplayable (at least in co-op) because of all the bugs it has.

Could someone please change the title of this thread? I don't mean to be a killjoy, prude or whatever the fuck someone will probably call me but I had a problem with it before this weekend and after what my father went through this weekend well I just can't contain how utterly stupid and ignorant I think the "joke" is.

this. my take on "jokes" like that is even if ONE disapproves, its a good idea to show some respect.

My Mom is dying from terminal cancer and I'm cool with it so.......yeah.
this. my take on "jokes" like that is even if ONE disapproves, its a good idea to show some respect.
It's not disrespectful, it's not mean spirited. It's not like it said people who use other services get cancer.

Also your take on a joke means we'd have no humor at all in the world

And that is why I get a reprimand for telling jokes at work........

ur reading too much into it. im just saying to differnt view points it might be nice to show a little respect. i dont have too much of a problem with it either, but some people do. and by "jokes" like this i was referring to his personal take on the subject.

yea i agree with this.

Since someone will always disagree somewhere in the world, NO ONE should tell jokes ever!

Then everyone will live happily ever after....amirite?!

I'm the one that sees the topic says NO LONGER CAUSES CANCER, as in no one is going to get cancer from these sales.

I have an issue when someone doesn't understand when to use "your" and you're" or when they don't understand "they're" "their" or "there" but in the scheme of things I can't ask for those things to be changed because I know that's one step away from wearing foil on my head to keep out the transmissions

im on my phone sitting in a damn bus for an hr going to work. lol u think i care about grammer on teh interweb!?!?!?! lulz im not writing my college thesis. =/

This. I'm not a prude or anything there's very few subjects that I deem as not joke worthy but it's the audience as well as the delivery. If steam wasn't steam and was called smoking well it might actually be funny but it's not. It's not some quirky way of rewording something to make it funny it's just a poor attempt at humor that coupled with the fact that the audience is quite large it's bound to affect a lot of people which is why it bothered me to begin with, before this weekend, but after an aggressive lymphoma took my father over the weekend it hits home a bit more and to have ignorant fucks poke even more fun at it when all I did was ask nicely is quite f'n sad. Honestly I knew it was going to happen but at least hoped the original "joke" would have been gone by then. I do want to thank the people that at least had the decency to agree with or at least acknowledge that it may have been in bad taste.

Sorry to hear about your dad, but don't take it so personally. You just need to learn to be tolerant of others in all respects, all of us do. Some people will come up to you and just say fuck you to your face, while others will make insensitive jokes, not to hurt someone in particular, but just because that's something they find humorous. I have no distaste to the title of the thread simply because that's all that it is. Remember that this is a Steam deal thread, not somewhere that we're trying to make fun of or even mock people who have had problems with the disease themselves or who have been affected at all by it. Don't take it to heart, just see it and pass it by, nothing more. It wasn't an attack, it was said in a light-hearted way, I'm sure. Just let it go.

The thread title doesn't need to be censored at all. You know, my grandmother died of cancer earlier this year and the loss has affected me greatly. I've also directed entertainment for two Relays for Life, the big American Cancer Society fundraiser. But since I'm mature and not a prude, I can handle references to cancer that are obviously not mean-spirited or targeted at anyone in particular. Taking offense at something like that is immature and counterproductive. Thank you everyone who understood that and defended/explained why the title was the way it was.

But in the spirit of hospitality, the thread title has been temporarily changed.

My grandmother also died earlier this year because of cancer, but I didn't think anything of the thread title.

I hate to be "that" guy... but can we just have a generic thread title and get back to the deal discussions? ;D

F'rinstance, The Humble Indie Bundle 3 is now available and is fully registerable on Steam and Desura. The games are:

 • Crayon Physics Deluxe
 • COGS
 • VVVVVV
 • Hammerfight
 • And Yet It Moves

It's Pay-What-You-Want and each game works natively on Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X.

Woot! for HIB 3! Will get it for when I get home.

Also, on the topic title topic, I think this new title is now a clear and blatant lie, at least the cancer bit was true, but this topic clearly now causes *more* whining, so I think we should edit it with "now with extra whining, but still good deals" or something, lol.
But in the spirit of hospitality, the thread title has been temporarily changed.
To no longer causes incessant whining!? Lol. You're so fucking funny. It's hard to not take that personally. I asked nicely, really didn't think it was this big of a deal, but be a dick about. Thanks.

Here's my impression of Hammerfight:

I don't like it. The controls and incredibly finicky and imprecise. You have to move your mouse around in a constant circle to wind your mace/mallet up and then try to hit your opponent WHILE moving your mouse in a constant circle. I kept hitting my keyboard and the edge of my keyboard tray. Apparently there are different weapons but the game didn't explain this at all. Maybe it does the further you get into the game, but after failing 10 times in the third level or whatever, I gave up.

Got further than me. I found Hammerfight to be so bad that I actually created a new category in my Steam library called "WON'T PLAY" and crammed the game right in there.

Only ONE game in your won't play/regret buying folder? Man you're great at Steam shopping. I don't even want to tally mine

NOW it is personally meant. With your whining you practically begged for it. Please keep your personal life and life on these forums separate. We're gamers who like to talk about games, game deals, awesomeness, etc. We don't want to and shouldn't be talking about things like what hardships and misfortunes that we face at home; that would be some other forum, go search the index. Something like "The title is in bad taste" or "Please change the title" would have sufficed, but your personal life and these forums are two separate spheres, let's keep it that way. With that last comment I'm sure that everyone can see and understand why it was YOU who brought forth this negativity. :baby: Good day to you.

In all honestly, the activation limit on games shouldn't ever be a reason not to buy. It never really comes in to play. I've bought about 100 games and reinstall windows every month or so (honest) and have never run into a problem.

I honestly think the people who bitch about it just do it to look cool on the internet... it's like hating macs outside of an apple store, but never have owned one.

I don't think it's so much the activation limit, (as many SecuRom games now have revoke tools) but I think it's more the hidden software that gets installed that bothers people.

For instance, I found a hidden SecuRom folder in my C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming folder with a few files using up no more than 50kb.

Couldn't resist. Got two copies of the Humble Indie Bundle. Although I already own Crayon and AYIM, I wanted VVVVVV. Also got a bundle for a friend and gifted it.

mine is "blah"

I own most of the HIB 3 games however, I'm in for Crayon Physics Deluxe!

Still passing on Batman AA GOTY. It's not cheap enough to double dip.

Looks like Dragon Age 2 was removed from Steam today. Still haven't played DA:O which I bought during the summer sale, so I'm not sure how upset I should be over this. I heard a lot of talk that DA2 was pretty bad, though.

In any event, it looks like the feud between EA & Steam is still going on.

Well today was an interesting day for me. I bought a new gaming PC (been saving up for a few months now), so I can play everything now :D. Just have to build it when everything comes in.

I also got laid off from my job for 4-6 weeks (but I might be able to get unemployment). So I guess I get some more gaming time .

Now I don't feel bad at all about my $96 summer sale splurge since I can play every game I own on Steam now :D.
