Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?
Alot of these are quite enticing. I still haven't finished Dead Space so I will pass on 2 for now, though Amazon has it for 4.99. Metro 2033 was one I was really interested in, but I think both Amazon and Steam already had them on their daily sale.

I actually have STALKER, but it came out like 4 years ago so I thought it would be outdated by now?

The Crysis Max Edition is 7.49 on Amazon, great deal but not Steam right?
Sorry Stalker CoP
You're offered three different control configurations in the tutorial, did you try all three?
I have configured my gamepad, but I can't bind buttons. I can only move, jump and attack. No idea what to press to target and no button is bound to blocking.
Granted I've played the game in the past, but the achievement can be done in less than 15 minutes depending on how many people are gathering boxes as well. Whenever I have gone in, there hasnt been anyone else going after them yet so they are all just sitting there.

Choose the Unleashed Archtype.

Skip the tutorial. You are given this option when playing your character for the first time.

When you get to the game choose Flight as your travel power. Exit to the city and head west to the slums area.

Just fly around and pick up boxes that are away from enemy groups. Once you get enough presents just go back to the center of the city and use them on whoever happens to be there or walking by.

Also if anyone is really having a hard time I have quite a few boxes just sitting in my inventory if someone wants 10 of them to use to get the cheevo quick.
I can't skip the tutorial, it says I have to play it at least once to skip it.

I assume since I haven't finished the tutorial and entered the city, if you give those boxes to me it won't unlock the achievement.

Impressed by Solar 2. Glad I sucked down my pride and paid for an indie game for once.

Serious Sam 3 tried to advertise as indie at a non indie price. Just makes me smile at how many people waited, wisely, to jump on it. Only played the first level of it but I already like it loads more than the watery, uninspiring Hard Reset.

You can't get to a terminal to pick them up without finishing the tutorial first.

Correct about Crysis. The Amazon copy will not activate on Steam.

If you are using the 360 controller then block is both triggers at the same time. and target is RB .. not sure about other pads though.

I'll use the 360 emulator then... thanks!

Just a couple hours before the crossover, but I'm still debating Dead Space 2. I would have bought it by now, but the DRM and ongoing EA feud still troubles me.

Any thoughts?

Beta key for Dota 2. Worth a lot to the right people but steadily dropping in value.

Apparently Valve is bringing down the banhammer on individuals who used one cent Humble Indie Bundle purchases to make tons of accounts and siphon off the rewards:

I guess that's a bit of karma for dicking around with charity.

Cool, maybe I'll trade for something good from the daily deals that are coming up.

Man, I hope they get all of the accounts, including the main ones. Those f***ers need to be taught that that type of behavior can't stand. I just worry some of them are going to slip through the cracks.

Man, AC2 has awful controller support. I had to put my DS3 into PS2 POV mode to get all the buttons to work. AC1 had a similar problem where you couldn't get the L2/R2 to work right in 360 mode, I think it's because my emulator turns it into a wireless 360 and the game only recognizes a wired 360 pad properly. When trying it as 360 it also got all the buttons wrong and when I changed to PS2 the analog sticks moved the camera in the wrong directions. Oh well, got it working eventually.

Whoever asked about Brotherhood, it's excellent.

I just created a Steam account for my girlfriend and activated a spare HIB 3 key on it. I was going to get her a couple of things but was waiting until the last day in case they become dailies. Hopefully the account doesn't get flagged because HIB 3 keys are either old or were obtained by beating the average, not pounding away at penny sales when the winter sale started. Still, the account doesn't have any other games on it yet and now I'm scared to buy anything and lose it.

You'll be fine. Dude must have done something really dumb.

the spaz demo made me think of the starscape demo a bit, starscape seems a bit more arcady action wise i think will probably pick up spaz after seeing todays deals but first give ai wars another try since still haven't really played it.

From what I've been reading in the steam forums, the use of the Steam Achievement Manager (don't have to own the game? to pop achievements for your account), in conjunction with multiple HiB/IndieGala $.01 purchases to activate accounts for trading.

I personally have 2 for myself (TF2 farming) and my wife has her's for a few Mac games she plays. I always go in for 2 HiB, one for me one for her. I think her account only has the additional HiB games and prem TF2.

Giving away a HIB code or using a save to get an achievement won't get your account banned.

Everything I'm seeing in the way of bans points to people making multiple $0.01 HIB purchases, creating a new account for each once, and then funneling the rewards back to their main account.

All of their bullshit accounts and their main accounts are receiving the ban. They are people that have basically exploited away from Steam and charity on the magnitude of hundreds to thousands of dollars worth of free games and CC processing fees.

That isn't to say that only abusing the system 5 times is any less worthy or likely of a ban but these appear to be pretty egregious instances.

They'd be dumb to ban a main account with actual purchase on it. There is no dispute process with steam really. If it happens and there are legit games purchased I woulsnt see why someone would just do a chargeback for every single game purchased from them.

I'm glad that they're losing their main accounts as well. If they'd just lost out on the time they spent cheating it wouldn't mean much. Losing their actual accounts might help curb this behavior.

I heartily applaud this. This promotion has been raped and damaged the Steam experience for all of us.

They may have actual purchases, but those people agreed to abide by Steam's rules or forfeit even their legitimately obtained games. They can try a chargeback, but there's no good reason for the CC company to give it to them.

I'm sure that banning main accounts as well would just make a lot of capable enemies for Valve. Steam was hacked for fun earlier this year. Imagine how well this will go if thousands of people lose accounts they've spend hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars on. Banning illegitimate accounts is a good enough lesson. They can't exploit any other bundles. And since when do people really learn? ;)

New Games that will be on sale are

Xotic
Lord of the Rings
Quake Games
Dungeon Siege
Medieval Games
Two Tribes
Wasteland Angel
Men of War
Binding of Isaac (BUY IT)
Left For Dead Games

They don't even question it. They just do it.

How do they ban the main accounts? Are they just going to ban any account that has dealt in transactions with these fake accounts or something? I mean how will they know what the main accounts are? I am sure not everyone doing this is funneling their stuff to one account, but trading with a bunch of people.

There are already cases of people with ~1,000 games in their libraries being banned. And, actually, banned is the wrong word as the accounts are being disabled so as to disallow the users from logging in at all.

Exactly. I've made trades with people how do I know it's a legit game they won. I don't

The Steam forums were hacked, not the service itself. From my understanding it was a security issue with the very common vbulletin software that the forums run on.

I am glad to see steam taking this approach. If people try to abuse the system they deserve to get burned, even their main account.

Holy shit. I can see why she was banned. I'm pretty jealous that she has The Ball, though. ;) I've been wanting to play that for a while.

I don't agree with what these people did but I think its probably going to far to ban accounts. I can see some legitimate users getting wrapped up in this or people that were taking advantage of the system but all within steams rules. Quite honestly if they don't want people to exploit things like this they shouldn't have promotions they can get or they should limit the free ticket promotions to accounts created 30 days or more ago. There are better ways to handle this and I think Steam chose about the worst possible method.

My issue with these bans is that it shows, without a doubt, we own nothing we've purchased on steam. They aren't ours, and they can be taken away at a moments notice. And the response will be 'but you have to do something wrong for them to do that!' And that's true...

But steam has absolutely no arbitration system, so whatever they decide is wrong is 'wrong' and whomever they ban is screwed.

I don't like that feeling.
