Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I caved and picked it up. I played it for a bit tonight while watching tv. There are a few new game modes but in the end it is still just Bejeweled. Either way, for $5 it isn't bad for a casual puzzler to have at hand when you have a bit of time to burn.

Yes, you should. If you like match 3 puzzle games, then you'll probably enjoy this version. There are tons of modes, unlockable stuff, achievements, and it all looks and sounds great.

Bit on Bejeweled 3, after all. Figured I can't go wrong with this match-three game.

Well, you can when you can't get it to run, which is what happened to me with Bejeweled 2.

As someone who got the game during the winter sale, save your money. There are better car driving games available. It seriously is not worth the money.

Hah! After all the cheering for Faerie Solitaire each year during the big sales (it's $1, you know), I just won a copy from steamgifts.

Congrats. I've yet to win anything over there. 350 entries so far

Congrats.

I'm creeping up on 400 entries with no wins. I understand is about par for the course over there. Many people have over 700 entries with no wins. So you lucked out.

Out of curiosity, how do you know when you win something? Do they send you an email alerting you that you've won?

Yeah I'm at 450+ and haven't won squat.

Bejeweled 3 seems overpriced to me with the regular price of $19.99 (really EACap?). It should be $9.99 and then 75% off on sales IMO.

Anyway, I have the second one Android for my phone and tablet so I don't think I'll be grabbing the 3rd unless it went super cheap.

I agree with this. It may have a lot more game modes and whatnot in comparison to earlier Bejeweled games, but it's still just a match-3 game. The $20 standard price is ridiculous. I can wait for a price drop to $10 and then a 75% off sale making it $2.50.

The user gifts your game via e-mail, and you also get a big, green section that says something like, "Congratulations, you've won something" on the main page. Chances of winning there are pretty slim since it's a worldwide contest, but I've managed 3 wins in 410 entries. If you happen to be part of a serious gifting group, your chances are much greater. I think Cult has something like 17 wins because he's part of an invite-only group.

I've seen a few CAG group giveaways on the site before. If one were a member of the CAG Steam group and wanted to organize group giveaways, it would obviously increase our chances of winning as a community.

Most of the groups are invite only, but some are open (like S-Gifts, which is the steam gifts group). Now I have entered 223 times, won twice and one was fake (yay!...). Of course I also submitted my super sweet copy of Bad Rats one there too. It is a great site and I can't really be upset for winning a fake giveaway considering it cost me nothing.

I won Dangerous Waters! :D

You know you've won when you see a notification between the greyish area at the top of the main page and the beginning of the giveaway listings. ;)

Note that Bejeweled 3, like almost every PopCap game, launched at $20. This was before EA bought them, so I wouldn't include EA in the blame. And it was actually a big hit at that price, even if savvy gamers like us waited for the inevitable sales.

No doubt plenty of other match three games exist well below the $20 price tag. Forget about that though because it's $5 right now and at that price, nothing else comes close. It has about eight modes and tons of nifty customizable (if not a bit gimmicky) touches in zen mode. The other modes are quite diverse. It's very well polished and if you like the genre at all - this is at the top.

If you're like me and just want to play a game of regular-ass bejeweled once in awhile and don't care about all of the modes you can play a really nice html5 version of the game that was made by popcap. I realize that it's not a replacement for Bejeweled 3, but if you just want that match 3 fix it's a good alternative for free.

Good to know! About to give it a shot. After creeping around a Skyrim barrow, I need something lighthearted flitting around my brain before I go to bed.
I hear Amnesia is a good, relaxing game for just such a need. I recommend it right before bed. Truly, it will gently lull you to sleep.
So blocked.

Just kidding. ;)

I can't get Amnesia to work with my 5.1 surround sound at all. =/

I probably just need to give in and play without it, because none of the solutions I've found have worked. >
Nation Red is onsale for a weekend deal at $2.50 and $7.50/4 pack.
Nation Red is one of my favorite games on steam. If you like shooters it should be a instant purchase at this price. There's so much to do. 15 difficulty levels on each "Mission" and other game modes. Pretty challenging as well IMO.

I'm sure some people will be irritated to see the Dead Space games down to 5 bucks as a deal again, but I actually have some money to spare this time, so I'm finally getting them. :p
Congrats.

Out of curiosity, how do you know when you win something? Do they send you an email alerting you that you've won?
Yeah, there was a green notification bar that congratulated me on winning, and a day or two later I got an email with the activation code in it from the giver, who I think may have been the developer.

It might've helped that the giveaway had 25 prizes, but there were still over 1600 entrants for them. I've only entered about 115 drawings so far, since I hadn't heard of it before the winter event.

I just noticed a price drop in Deus Ex: Human Revolution from $50 ----> $30 (in the US region). I know most of you wouldn't buy it at that price either, but I'm sure it'll affect sales prices and trade values for those that are interested.

I'm interested in Dead Space 2. In fact, I almost grabbed it during the Holiday Sale. However, I really don't want to go through the EA Account/Origin hassles.

I'm torn - What should I do, CAG's?

Actually, you'll want to play DS2 in Origin anyway, because EA hasn't patched the Steam version.

Can't you register the Steam version in Origin, though? The newer games seem to do that. I registered my Steam Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Vietnam expansion in Origin via the keys.

Yeah you should be able to register the Steam version on Origin, but I'd recommend getting DS2 on Amazon if you have one of the holiday promo codes.. it's free if you apply the code (but the Amazon key will only activate on Origin, not Steam).

Lol. Are mods deleting my 4-pack post? Just wondering, I wasn't aware of a policy (I'm fine with that - I'm just want to be sure my post wasn't lost to the æther).

Picked up Bejeweled 3...and here I thought I was done with Steam for a while! :D Nation Red is free to play this weekend too for anybody on the fence. Didn't see that mentioned yet.

Nation Red is fantastic. I don't understand how a twin stick shooter can be so good but it just is. Play some Free Play mode and it's a blast.
TotalBiscuit did a WTF is on Nation Red.

/le snip video

I just bought the game because of this. Looks like a fucking awesome time.
I think TB is having a bit too much fun with this one. o_O Don't think I've ever seen him so excited, lol.

But, yeah. Nation Red have been receiving tons of content updates since he did that WTF video. The most recent one (on the 10th) added a drop-in/drop-out feature for co-op games. Quite honestly, I'm proud to have bought this game to support a developer who still listens to their community.
