Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I also have a 10% off coupon for City Interactive as well. Contact me if you want to trade any of your crap for it.

Is Sniper that bad? I mean, it's not an indie game so it can't be THAT awful, can it?
I agree, there was one hack in the whole game I used the automated hacking tool on (don't want to spoil anything but it was the hardest hack in the game). The rest I hacked myself. The mission that came with the preorder pack was short and I never used the weapons because I was stealth.

Missing Link DLC is good. Not $14.99 good because it's only 4-5 hours tops, but still good.

I bought the Augmented Edition for full price basically (well with GS Credit) and I got my money's worth.

With that said I finally tried my $2 Alpha Protocol I got from the Sega Sale and wow, it's like a Deus Ex Ripoff which is fine because I was in the mood for a stealth action game except for the fact Stealth is kinda broken or so far it is. There isn't a way I can see that I can actually be stealthy without alerting guards. It's walk into a room, there are 7 guards in the room, each looking at some direction where if a guy goes down, they will know.
The grenade launcher you get in the DLC three-shots the third boss and one-shots each of the turrets of the last boss. It's kinda overpowered. I like having them for just giving a great game more stuff though, even if it is a huge ugly inventory dump at the start and very little of it is practical.

Alpha Protocol plays more like Syphon Filter than Deus Ex. That philosophy does throw you into gunfights along with the stealth, so do yourself a favor and realize that you should invest in gunplay. Jensen can't suck with firearms. AP includes arbitrary gun stats. You need to invest in at least one if you want to survive the bosses.

Sniper is AWFUL. I got it on 360 from Gamefly and played through about half before I called it quits. I have played through some horrible stuff for achievement points, but Sniper was just not worth it.

RollingSkull constantly trolls indie games. It's not really funny or necessary, and it makes him seem like a massive douchebag. As if being indie makes a difference in quality when Ubisoft picks an animal, adds a z at the end, and releases it for $30-50.

Game looks kinda neat. Sounds like it's releasing for $10 which isn't bad.

yeah he always pops in to shit on a game. I believe he was the first to make my ignore list, cag forums have been better ever since.

I like Rollingskull's grousing. In fact it occasionally makes me think at times that I could do with fewer chiptune playing chunky pixel having physics based games on my Steam list. I still inevitably buy them anyway because I'm a sucker, but a fair number aren't that good.

Quick question for those who've played Dead Space 1 on both Xbox and a good gaming PC: How much better are the graphics? So good that it's worth playing on a 24" monitor rather than a 42" or 60" HDTV or a wash?

I've got DS1 on Xbox and got perhaps a third of the way through before knocking off. It's been so long that I can't remember the game's mechanics and may as well start from scratch. I have DS2 on Origin because of a BF3 pre-order deal. It's not Steam vs. Origin (one of the dumbest causes of faux outrage lately) but whether the visual boost is worth double-dipping. The screens I've seen look better, but I'm not quite sold. Thanks.

I've been wondering the same thing. I have the 360 version, but after getting Dead Space 2 for free on Origin I was thinking of maybe getting Dead Space 1 on Steam if the graphics are much of an improvement.

quick question incase anybody knows, since mass effect 3 wont be available on steam, if i get it on origin will my save from mass effect 2 transfer over? maybe somebody knows. still pissed about EA hatin' on steam. if they want the customers have the best experience playing mass effect 3, then it needs to be on steam. i dont want to have to have origin for one game. /rant

Yes, your saves will still transfer.

It will transfer no problem, since the saves are located in my documents ME3 will look for the save file and use it no problem.

I've played Dead Space 1 on both PC and console. My PC version ran like crap on my rig that was way above the minimum requirements. Mouse delay/video lag of some sort... never managed to figure it out but made it "playable" with some tweaks. I hear DS2 doesn't have this problem.

The fix is supposed to be disabling vsync in the game, but forcing it in the video drivers.

You guys get fiesty for someone who has an opinion. Personally, RollingSkull has saved me money. Sure they catch my whim, but not every indie game is awesome. Most suck in fact. RS points it out, I check out his observations and bam money saved. (now go ahead and re-read that post with the Real men of geniusnius soundtrack in the back ground)

No need to flame, everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion.

Your post wasn't necessary either, and neither is mine, but they're still here aren't they? Why don't you do what your almighty ally did and ignore him.

Practice what you preach, my friend.

The only issue I have with Rollingskull is that his criticism largely comes across as a diatribe rather than a critique.

Nonetheless, it's good to have a contrarian around.

Argument invalid because Ubisoft produces and develops one of the most elaborated game franchises as of this moment.

Let's try it this way: I want to compare Assassin's Creed 2 with Limbo and Minecraft .. yeah, all enjoyable right? But there's NO WAY the indie games are gonna have the same amount of awesome as a big AAA game (the ones that still do it right).
For example, Bastion (what's most, it's not even entirely an "indie" game itself) has a superb soundtrack and environment design. The problem? really really decent/mediocre combat, questionable story-telling and a very short life span (lenght)
You're pimping Asscreed and then talking about questionable storytelling and mediocre combat of another game?
Just what I was thinking...

I've got a 50% off Tiny Bang Story coupon, if anyone wants it, PM me. I'd appreciate a non-Valve coupon in return, but I'd be happy to give it away for free so long as that person actually buys the game and doesn't try to flip the coupon.

Also, Bastion having questionable story-telling? Stop right there criminal scum.

You totally missed the point that big-time game developers still release bad games. Ubisoft also released Petz: Crazy Monkeyz, Imagine: Fashion Party, and Peter Jackson's King Kong. Square-Enix has Pony Friends 2 and Mindjack. Bethesda, Rockstar, EA, Supergiant, Playdead, Arkedo--it shouldn't matter who the developer is as long as the game is enjoyable. Saying that all indie games are bad is an ignorant stereotype, like saying all Americans are fat and all Asians are bad drivers.

Ignorant stereotype or not, each of those assumptions have a truthful basis from which they were derived.

It's those sore thumbs that stick out, not the other eight fingers. ;) It's the bad that sticks out, not the good.

I'd just like to round this off by pointing out that I had a cup of coffee with my breakfast, rather than a pot of tea.

The. Horror.

Man, this topic went downhill. I miss when the Steam Sale was going on and we were all debating which games to purchase and asking for opinions. This is the equivalent of fighting over which video game system is better.

Blade, please stop posting such hateful messages all the time. I've been noticing them since the Steam Holiday Sale. I've wanted to post something about it numerous times, but I felt there was no need to cause more trouble. However, your behavior has not improved. Admittedly, I applauded your response to DirkBelig when he himself was posting offensive messages on the boards, but now you seem to be taking his place. For the sake of keeping CAG a "sanctuary" for video game enthusiasts, you should consider more calm approaches to your posting habits.

I truly hate posting messages like this. After all, why bother potentially bringing more trouble to the boards? My reasoning is simply that CAG should, ideally, be a place for like-minded adults to chat about video games and related deals. Therefore, posting battles over pithy subjects are disheartening; Why indulge the immature posters when we ourselves are supposed to be adults? Are we so dissatisfied in real life that we turn conversations into silly competitions? Truly, no one is winning here - What's being fought about is something any well-adjusted, educated individual would know the proper answers to. Having that been said, why allow the thread to devolve so badly?

Forgive me for being antagonistic; I'm simply trying to put things into a proper perspective. I admit I singled two people out in this process, but I felt it was necessary.

So which deal would you like to see at 10 AM PST today? Alternatively, which user should today's discussion revolve around? I nominate myself. Everyone, please point out what you like and dislike about me. Don't forget to linger on my inability to please women and my huge goiter.

Seriously though, let's just stop. I have opinions about people who regularly post here, but this isn't the user discussion thread. No one needs the last word. Just stop posting and it will go away. If you dislike someone's posts so much that you feel the need to argue about them it's best to just use the ignore function. It works wonderfully. I use it myself.

I'm right all the time and I have no problem at all if the community wants to attack me and show that they're wrong.

I will become the willing piñata
Sounds like a good time to start the v3 thread...
Should have been created two weeks ago. However EastX is slower than a snail stuck in molasses.

Well in his defense, Im sure that he has stuff in daily life that takes precedent. I mean I dont always want to reestablish a popular thread after a hard day of working. Im sure he will get to it, in the mean time aside from the "discussions" I think we can make due.

Until we get a new thread, here's an interesting question for each of you:

Which Steam games give the best frequent returns on achievements toward goodies? Off the top of my head I can think of a few (below), and these would be good to own on the cheap to maximize your 'chieve earning time and again:

 • Audiosurf
 • And Yet It Moves
 • Team Fortress 2
 • Flight Control HD
 • Magicka
 • The Polynomial
 • Beat Hazard

Any ideas on the Painkiller Complete Pack?

I already own Painkiller: Black Edition from GOG but from what I heard you get some extra stuff from the steam version. Not big stuff but I think 2 multiplayer maps or something that my mind just made up.

Actually, those Flatout prices are 66% off at the moment.

The Flatout complete pack is showing up at $13.59, with giftable copies if you have any previous ones.

You're right. The news page lists the franchise at 50% off. If anyone wants it you may want to act quickly. The prices could go up.

It says you get giftable but when you get to the checkout it says you wont. I already own the first 3 but I was going to give the extra to a buddy. I don't want to spend the extra 4 bucks and get screwed.

Flatout: I haven't played all of them, but I can tell you that Ultimate Carnage is a good amount of fun. $6.79 seems a bit much for it, I think. The complete pack seems like a decent deal, but I get the feeling you'd only play the newest one.

Painkiller: Common internet wisdom says Black is the only one you need, and it is pretty damn fun. $5 doesn't sound too terrible for the whole pack, though.

In any case, nothing for me today.

Dustforce is up. Only 10% off though at $8.99.

Curse you Indie bundles for making me afraid to spend full price on Indie games. *sigh*

I want it though, so I might just cave.
