Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
There is a very good unpromoted sale on Steam for the games from Two Tribes.

Toki Tori
Rush
Edge

Each is 33% off, but as a collection they are $7. That's 50% off.

Not bad for some action-y, platform-y, puzzle-y indie play.
Toki Tori= awesome. Buy it NAO. D:

Would it be worth it to pick up the full gta collection if I already own San Andreas and IV?
Every sell I've seen they haven't dropped the episodes.
That's a nice NOTHING they did for Sequence to give the interface a better run for the PC version than they did for Xbox.

And an Xbox 360 controller is less than ideal for it. Keyboard, dance pad, or guitar would all be better.

Still, it's functional on PC but it's a little annoying that they're so late after Breath of Death to join the "Escape the sinking XBLIG ship for sweet sweet Steam money." that they didn't bring a slightly better PC optimization to the table.

STILL, I should support it because it doesn't have the lol indie lol retro heat that other games might and deserves good sales AND I did genuinely find it charming in many ways, but I just gotta gripe even about games I am loathe to gripe about. It's what I do. if I stop, I die.
Interesting that you mention guitar. Have you tried it using a guitar, is it fun?

Actually, I haven't so I don't really know how feasible it is. It was a fun game but I don't like rhythm stuff quite enough to see myself taking another crack at it after dusting out my guitar.

I'm also kinda curious about how the button assignments would work. Four note buttons. That leaves the fifth, the strum bar, and the waggle lever, if Sequence even reads that, to handle spell select, cast, and board select. Spell select is on a radial wheel normally.

Actually, I might be curious enough to see how they do that to dig it out but I make no promises.

Back to the general cases, Toki Tori is excellent.

LA Noire? I've tried to warn all the PC users out there, stay away. You should not have to suffer like we did. It's a dimwitted, unimpressive, dull game where even when it tries to ape movie set pieces for excitement it fails. If it's one of those things you HAVE to buy then wait for a good sale.

The DLC cases range in quality. Naked City is one of the best partly because that case is taken straight from a movie and it shows. The others are pretty good. Only Reefer Madness is worthless.

GTA complete collection worth it with all the games coming out around this time? I actually won't be in town during this year's winter sale, so I can't really get anything around then. I've owned GTA 3, Vice City, and 4 on consoles in the past. Never beat any of them, but I enjoyed 3 quite a bit and liked 4 but never really had the time to play it. Never played the Episodes from Liberty City DLC's either.

How are they on PC? I'm also really tempted because I want to try the iCEnhancer mod with 4...
Toki Tori and Rush are both excellent games and I recommend them both. I really liked Toki Tori
Thanks. I I think I will pick up the bundle pack so I can get Edge too!

I think I'll be getting the GTA complete collection. I was planning on getting GTA4 episodes on the PS3 eventually, but this is a lot cheaper.

Question before I get it though:
Anyone know what the graphics on GTA 4 would be like through an HD 4350? My system passes minimum requirements, but the graphics card is the bottleneck on my system.

Toki Tori is a fun game, but remember it was $1.25 during the Summer sale so more than likely it will hit that during the winter sale in a couple months.

I would have to agree with you on this one. The game is very repetitive and extremely dimwitted like you say. The character facial expressions is really the only redeeming factor. I grabbed this right after I had finished RDR thinking it would be similar, since I loved that game, but was very very disappointed. I completed the game and imediatly traded it in, didn't bother with any DLC and not sorry that I missed it.

GTA IV has been improved since release so it should run pretty decent if your machine can handle it spec wise. Now for the others, they run great but the main reason you want them is for mods.

Eh, ended up getting the GTA complete collection. Just couldn't resist at that price, even if I know I won't play most of them...

Ack. Tempted by GTA Complete, but like others have said would it be worth it with all the other games coming out soon? Probably not for me since my backlog is ginormous.

Having only played Toki Tori and Rush, I can still say you'd get your money's worth for $7. Yeah, you can probably get them cheaper if you wait, but this is a fair price.

I actually like Rush more than Toki Tori. With Rush, there's a really rewarding sense of completion when you get all of the cubes moving as a clean, well-organized machine.

Looking for someone from the UK to buy me a copy GTA Complete.
I belive its about 4.99 over there. Will give about 3-4 TF2 keys. Might want 2 copies for me and my friend. If your interested please send me a pm. Thanks...

And that's not the game's fault. It was pretty clear that this was not a free roam shoot em up like RDR or GTA for that matter, yet somehow people decided it would be and were disappointed by a police procedural.

I like Tori Tori, but I'm pretty terrible at puzzle games and shit got real by the third world (sewers). I've given up.

I didn't even manage to finish it. I got about 10 hours in and couldn't take any more. I wanted to see what happened with the story, but I wasn't going to slog through the rest of the cases doing the same thing over and over again and getting every interrogation question wrong even though I had evidence.
Damn i missed out on dungeon defenders pre order. Anyone got a extra copy?
Could always get in on a four pack. If I can convince some friends to get this then i might do that. This game looks right up my alley.

EDIT: Correction. It looks like the TF2 stuff and Portal gun are on the page and available. Does that include the 4-pack?

Check your PMs :)

Daily Deal is Sacraboar at 66% off, making it $2.99. Looks like a dull indie RTS, animations of the units in-game in the video on Steam look stiff and underwhelming. Pass.

EDIT: Also, Hydrophobia is a Daily Deal as well? on sale for 75% off? That would make it $3.00, and is definitely worth that price.

I actually knew before I bought it that it wasn't going to be as free roam as RDR but I didn't think it would be as linear and devoid of much choice. Every interrogation only has one correct path and each answer gives you a sound cue telling you if the answer is right or wrong. So you are forced to reload if you are going for perfection. It Would have been nice to at least give you an option to be good cop or bad cop.

I really liked the premise of the game, I really like detective stories and enjoyed the 40s setting but there just wasn't enough depth to the game. After a time it feels like the game was an excuse to try out the new facial expression capture technology.

I loved GTA: Ballad of Gay Tony [one of the DLC's in Episodes from Lib City].
It actually reminded me a lot of Vice City.
And yes, Vice City is my favorite of the GTA games.

I haven't checked out GTA: The Lost and The Damned yet [the other DLC in Episodes from Lib City].

You sure? If he doesn't, then yeah I'd say the Complete is definitely worth it.

it may not let you download complete if you previously bought GTA4 on steam, I know back in the day when I bought vanilla GTA4 on steam it told me I already owned the complete edition when I wanted to buy it when it was on sale so I ended up having to purchase EFLC instead.

Not seeing that. I was interested in it until I saw that the wtf review. Still might bite at $3.

edit: Looks like premature announculation. Maybe it's tomorrow's DD.

Most likely, they did this before with Trine a couple of weeks back.

Hey there. I have bad news for you. If you're gaming with an HD 4350 card, you do not meet the minimum requirements for GTA IV.

Mimimum req's is an ATI X1900, which is the highest-end of the X series. The 4350 is a budget card of the 4000 series. For ATI/AMD cards, the first digit (thousands digit) tells you the generation, The remaining numbers tell you the relative power within that generation. Not trying to be pedantic, but 350 is way lower than 900.

Although, each new generation is relatively stronger than the previous, for the same final digits (excluding the 6000 generation, which optimized power and heat output, not horsepower). So it's truly difficult to compare between generations, and I imagine that's why you think you HD 4350 is > HD X1900.

I recommend the table that Toms Hardware publishes each month, that places graphics cards into tiers so we can compare their relative power, both between generations and also between ATI and nVidia. You can find this month's table here. It's on the last page of their monthly article "Best Graphics Cards for the Money", an invaluable resource for gamers.

Using that table, we find that an HD X1900 card (minimum specs for GTA IV) is roughly equivalent to an HD 4650 in the 4000 generation. Your HD 4350 is roughly the same as an HD X1600 PRO in the X generation.

The good news is, you can get a card that meets the minimum specs for this game for about $40. This would be a huge boost to your gaming rig.

Good luck.

Good luck.
Unfortunately, I don't have the funds for a new card atm...
I was aware of how ATI classes their cards (I did a lot of research when buying the parts for my computer, but I went with the 4350 since it was only $10 w/rebate), but I was referring to this when I said it meets the minimum requirements. I know it isn't foolproof, but I'll just have to see if it'll work when it finishes downloading (just bought the complete pack today.) If not, I guess I'll have to wait till Christmas to get a new card.

Thanks for the help!

I feel your pain. I make an effort to play "behind the curve" too; it makes gaming way more affordable. I stacked my Steam backlog in chronological order and I play from oldest to newest, generally. I recently finished Mass Effect 1 and the first STALKER game; working on the first Witcher game now. I'm like 4 years back, lol, which means my 4850 card that I got for about $100 18 months ago is still a powerhouse! When the 5850s or 6870s hit about $100, I'll upgrade again.

Let us know how it goes with the 4350. From what I hear, GTA IV is not well optimized for PC, even after several iterations. Everything I read says to turn the "draw distance" setting way down. Maybe that will help you.
