Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Actually, for Hunted, Quake 4, RTCW, and the FNV DLC (How foolish was I to spend in the summer sale), I think I would dip for the $40 if someone who preordered wishes to PM me. I believe I can reimburse you via Paypal.
I would love to do this cheaper as well since I have some of the games already. If anyone has pre-ordered, I would be happy to pay a little extra via paypal payment for your trouble. Please PM me if interested.

I preordered Skyrim and bought the QuakeCon pack. The QuakeCon pack is showing up as $56 for me, so if anyone wants it at that price, PM me.
It's pretty much ancient news now, but I'd like to thank dark2025 & beeman07 for answering my questions about Europa Universalis several pages ago. I ended up picking up Europa Universalis III Chronicles just before the sale ended. Thanks for the help, guys.
You, sir, are welcome. Enjoy!

I have the pre-order discount.
I can gift the Quakecon Pack 2011 for $44 or the Elder Scrolls Pack for $11.
PM me if you're interested.

Off to bed! Leave me a PM if you're interested. :)

If anyone is interested in either pack send me a PM, I'll be glad to do either for their base cost. That is..

Elder Scrolls Pack: $10
Quakecon 2011 Pack: $40

Anything more is appreciated, but not necessary.

This guy is a champ.

Just started a steam account and missed Recettear on sale last month :( I'll wait till christmas I guess. That's probably when it will be on sale again right?

100% lock then but it might be on sale earlier. They have a Thanksgiving/Black Friday sale and then a 'Treasure Hunt' that bridge the gap between that and the Holiday sale. Could also be a midweek, weekend, or daily sale, too, but probably not as steep as you'd see it during one of the majors.

Thanks a lot for the information.

I jumped on that Morrowind and Oblivion pack. Not sure if I want to dabble with the enhanced graphics mods for Morrowind or just enjoy it as it is.

Thanks for hooking me up with the Quakecon pack! :)

I would like a quakecon pack for $40 if anyone has the ability, PM me.

Man, I have now convinced myself that I really want quakecon pack. But, I am not going to pay $70 right now.

I want Morrowind but the inability to have quest markers means that I'd go away from it too fast not wanting to deal with the problems
If only...They still sell the first two Fallouts. You can pick up the bundled package which has those and Tactics for like 15 or 20 bucks in retail stores still. Steam sells all three of the games separately for 10 a piece and then all three for 20. I'm sure it is a pretty safe bet that they will be on sale sunday if the rumored Fallout day is true.
How is that a safe bet when the Fallout 1 & 2 games aren't even owned by the same company? Explain yourself.

Played Spiral Knights for a few minutes - it's really fun! The art style is really nice too. I don't know about paying for any of the packs, but as a free game I would recommend the download!

Couldn't take 10 minutes of Brink. Major disappoint. Really figured there'd be something else on sale, today. A crappy indy game, Wolfenstein, or Doom, something.

Gyromancer is on sale today for 66% off, though they might change it to 67%, which they seem to do sometimes.

It's a pretty fun puzzle/RPG in the vein of Puzzle Quest, but not as good IMO. Good game, but not great game.
How does Gyromancer compare to Puzzle Quest? I freakin love Puzzle Quest.
It's not as good as Puzzle Quest. It has a lot of the same elements, but it doesn't feel as deep. Also, you move the pieces in a circle instead of switching places, which takes more getting used to.
Each day of quake con has a different deal. Is it really that hard to comprehend?
Brink was already on sale for the free weekend

...everyone settle down. We're starting to sound like drug addicts when Steam doesn't post a completely new deal. It's QuakeCon weekend, and they have just Brink up as the sale, no big deal. Relax and go play one of the hundred other games in your backog.
How does Gyromancer compare to Puzzle Quest? I freakin love Puzzle Quest.
I don't know if you'd be interested, but I wrote a review for the XBLA version a few years ago for a site called Spawn Kill. http://spawnkill.com/2009/12/08/review-gyromancer/

I enjoyed the game...not as much as puzzle quest, but I enjoyed it. I'd buy it for the $5 if I didn't have it on XBLA already. The puzzle aspect is like Bejeweled Twist.

Never! I will not stand for your sensible logic! ;)
Never! I will not stand for your sensible logic! ;)
Logic be damned...it's just about time that Valve listened when I threw my hands up in the air and yelled for mercy...(24 hour reprieve is a small blessing).

I was kind of hoping for an iD Classics sale to pick up Keen, Heretic, and some of the other old games that I'd like to run through again.... still debating the QuakeCon pack, have to see what kind of deal F:NV gets tomorrow.
How does Gyromancer compare to Puzzle Quest? I freakin love Puzzle Quest.
There have already been some good replies to your question, but I'll add this. I love Puzzle Quest too and am having a good time with this one.

It's PopCap/SquareEnix, so you know right away it has good production values. The Bejeweled Twist comparison was a pretty good one. What makes this different from Puzzle Quest, aside from twisting jewels, is that you capture and grow monsters that fight for you, each with an affinity to a particular type of jewel. There are items you can use in battle as well, such as a mirror that reverses the rotation direction.

It is similar to Puzzle Quest in that you have an overhead map through which you can progress, but it's more of a dungeon crawl than a map with quests. It does, however, have visible random encounters like PQ.

It's not better than Puzzle Quest and there don't seem to be as many RPG aspects to it, but if you like one you'll probably like the other.
I hope the DLC for Fallout: NV goes on sale for $3 like it did during the summer sale.
Same here. I was going to sell my 360 copy of NV today because I am currently building a beastly pc that I would much rather play it on. Here is to hoping for $15 for New Vegas and all of the DLC. That would be a sweet price point.

Using the Bejeweled Twist puzzle mechanic was the worst thing that game could have done for me, personally. Liked everything else about the game but I can't stand Twist over the basic match 3 concept. If you like Twist then I'd recommend Gyromancer.

Hoping so too. I hear that Old World Blues is absolutely fantastic.

Not sure if the DLC will drop that low. It's possible but the standard discounts have seemed to be only 50% off during these sales.

While this makes sense, I hope you are wrong hahah
