Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Ok how the fuck do you pay with pay pal? I want to get AvP but I see no options for Pay Pal. On the site they claim they accept it.
When you try to go through with PP:

We cannot accept PayPal as a method of payment for this product.
To continue shopping you need to remove the item or choose to pay by card.

Luckily I've got one of those amex cash cards I need to get rid of, so I'll just use that.

Ugh, that is stupid. I will send you a $5 Amazon E-Giftcard if you want to get me an extra code.

Can I still get in on the "pre-order Skyrim/Rage for a discount on the Quakecon pack"? I can't seem to find it mentioned anymore.

Yes, that deal runs through the 8th at 10am Pacific.

Re: GetGames, they redirected me to the Verified by Visa portal, and the code worked straight away in Steam. No reason for me to assume anything negative.
While this makes sense, I hope you are wrong hahah
Oh, believe me, I was hoping I'd be wrong about Morrowind, too. But after a year+ of waiting for them to have another $5 sale I just bit the bullet.
Damn that Get Games site wont go through the transaction because it's international. Oh well, just wait till a Steam Sale.
Yeah, mine is freezing up at the 'We are contacting your bank, please provide your details when prompted below' section...

Bah. If anyone wants to pick one up for me I really am itching to play the game now.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is the current price for Fallout: New Vegas ($14.99) going to go lower tomorrow? Is the game and the DLC currently priced that way since they're also part of the Quakecon 2011 Pack?

It should all go down tomorrow. All games are on sale that are in the pack but each day certain games go 'more on sale.' Tomorrow (Sunday) is supposed to be the Fallout day so we are hoping it will drop quite low.

Thanks for answering my question, BrolyB593! :) I'm looking forward to tomorrow's sale for sure, too.

EDIT: How's the DLC for Fallout: New Vegas? Which ones to avoid, which to buy?

I can do that. Anyone else need it?

Me too. I already have New Vegas for 360 but the load times are horrendous even when installed to the HDD. Hoping the base game hits $10 and the DLC is $2.49 each so I can pick them all up.

That would make my day! I missed out on picking up New Vegas for $10 at Best Buy last month, so here's hoping the Steam sale matches that.:bouncy:

Old World Blues is the best so far.
Dead Money is very linear and has some gameplay issues people don't like but the story more then makes up for it. It also has some plot that ties into OWB.
Honest Hearts has a very open environment that rewards exploration, but the main quest is a bunch of fetch quests that don't even try to disguise themselves.

I put 60 hours into the 360 version. I've put about an hour or two into the PC version. Wow, what a big difference. The mods, especially Project Nevada, are so awesome! I'm still crossing my fingers for the DLC to drop below $4.

The DLC are $5 each. I just bought Old World Blues for the hell of it because I seen the banner for $7.50, but it was $5 in my shopping cart. The prices are correct in the New Vegas product page.

EDIT: Oh, and the main game is $10.

I grabbed Old World Blues for me and the misses too. Got the first two DLC during the Summer Sale. The quality of OWB looks great so $5 for it isn't bad in my book. The base NV game is $10 today so that'll make folks happy.

Already have Fallout 3 GOTY on the 360, but passed on New Vegas until it hit a sweet price point for me. For $10 I couldn't resist. Awesome!

Argh, every damn time Fallout 3 GOTY is on sale, I go crazy debating if I need it or not. Already put over 80 hours in the 360 version...but the improved graphics and MODS...dammit. I do miss Point Lookout.... But wtf, the backlog...the backlog...

Probably pick up Old World Blues (like many others I grabbed the other DLC during the summer sale)...

Argh...
Is there a daily deal today?
The Painkiller series is on sale today for 50% off. Painkiller Black is by far the best of the series there.

Im realy split between fallout vegas, I had it on 360 and played for 10 hours, but I did not enjoy it at all...loading terrible. I loved Fallout 3 though, so Im wondering is this worth picking up for $10.

Thanks for sharing! Is the DLC for FNV the type one would play after beating the game, or do people play it while enjoying the main campaign? My funds are a bit squeezed this week, so if the main campaign is hearty enough I may just hold off on the DLC until the holidays. I appreciate the feedback guys and gals! :)

Edit: Painkiller

Buy Fallout 3 GOTY right now if you don't have it yet.
Kay, did.

Seriously though, I haven't played Fallout 3 or New Vegas yet, so I figured $10 for a bigger game and a pants-load full of add-on stuff, why not.
The Painkiller series is on sale today for 50% off. Painkiller Black is by far the best of the series there.
Definitely Painkiller was made by the same people who did Bulletstorm. It's a balls to wall fps with epic boss battles and great weapons!

Painkiller Black Edition includes the expansion pack Battle Out of Hell, featuring 10 additional single-player levels and many new villans. Gothic Story, Frantic Gameplay.

Morphing: Your unholy pact gives you the power to morph into a powerful possessed creature with every 66 souls collected.

Lasting replay value: Painkiller features a standard single player campaign, with additional modes to encourage replay. The game also features full multiplayer support.

It has an 81 on metacritic and is worth the 4.99 asking price. If I didn't own a disc copy I would buy it at this price.

Own both these games on my 360 and decided to go with New Vegas for steam. Kind of kicking myself because it's a love hate with these fallout games with me. Love buying from steam since I know I cant sell these games back like I do with my other games.

Was the Fallout 3 GOTY addition cheaper in the past? I seem to remember it being $8 and change but I may be mistaken.

Darn it. I told myself I wouldn't buy anything from Steam after the summer sales but I've done it again with FNV.. ):
Is Black the best one? Are the others in the Steam pack worth it?
Yes and Overdose is all right but the other two are pretty bad.
Is Black the best one? Are the others in the Steam pack worth it?
Pretty much Black is the best one and all you need IMO, the other Painkillers wasn't developed by People Can Fly.

I think it may have been $8-something at one point but $10 is an incredible, incredible value since there is so much content.

Gonna pick up NV for $10 but the DLC didn't go as low as I hoped. Might just get Old World Blues and wait on the other two.

I have played Fallout 3 on both the PC and the 360. I own New Vegas for the 360 and never played it. I was planning on selling it to Best Buy today and then picking up the Steam version.

Should I just pick up the vanilla version of the game and wait on the DLC for now? I was hoping the DLC would be cheaper and I worry that by the time I get through the game and even want DLC it will have been on sale for yet an even lower price.

I'm wondering if you need to play the DLC in order and if I'd be doing myself a disservice by getting and playing OWB before the others. :D
I'm wondering if you need to play the DLC in order and if I'd be doing myself a disservice by getting and playing OWB before the others. :D
Honest Hearts doesn't connect with the other OWB, so you'll be fine missing out on that one (but do play it eventually, still pretty good). Dead Money is the one with the connections. Without having played OWB, what I've read of the connections makes it seem like you're not going to miss out on a lot, just the fact that the story connects would make it better. Dead Money does have a challenge in which you hear about things that are coming, connecting it to OWB and the last DLC, though. Take from that what you will.

Wow, Steam interrupted my FNV download due to being too slammed from the sale. Totally understandable given just how gigantic that Quakecon Pack is. Oh well :) Back to Borderlands for now!
As far as New Vegas content, what DLC content do you actually need for the game?
I mean like level cap goes up and all that
Each DLC raises the level cap by five.
