Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

From your description, it reminds me a lot of the Disciples II series. If anyone is interested in this genre, I would recommend that you keep an eye out for the Disciples II collection (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/95), which goes on sale fairly often.
Disciples II is also a great game (like it better actually). Although (if I remember correctly) Disciples II you don't move your characters around the battlefield (you do in Elven Legacy) and the maps were much bigger in disciples II. In elven legacy there is the entire map (made of hexes) and you move around on this map and also fight the battles on this map. So while the leveling up of units is similar, and they are both turn based strategy games, the play is different. I think Disciples II had better artwork and story but you can't go wrong (IMHO) with Elven legacy at this price and I've enjoyed both of them (what I've played of Elven Legacy). Being newer Elven Legacy has better graphics and it does some things that were kind of unique (not groundbreaking but still interesting twists) on the genre.

p.s. amazon is supposed to have the digital Disciples II pack on sale soon according to this http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303178
Diphu, thank you for the information about Elven Legacy, I have been on the fence more than once with this game. I think I might actually give it a purchase this time around.
glad I could help, I was on the fence myself until I finally got it i the last sale. For the sale price it's great.
Perfect, thanks for the info man. I think I will at least get the $1.66 deal. Need to think about buying the whole package for $5 and some change. I doubt I will have the chance to play through all the content, but for the price it probably wouldn't hurt to have it for a rainy day lol.

..
Glad I could help. At $1.66 it's definitely a good buy. I think I picked up the complete package with a majesty package in a sale some months back. Haven't played any of the expansions yet (for elven legacy) so not sure how much they add. .
I ended up buying the Elven Legacy Collection. I was debating it but after reading some reviews it seemed like a good time. Plus it is supposedly easy enough for people who haven't played the genre which I would probably qualify as.

Looks fun and I do like a good Strategy RPG once in awhile.
I recently played Elven Legacy and really enjoyed it. The game itself is really easy to learn but the series can be really difficult. You don't want to lose any units during a mission because they are carried from mission to mission and increase in level so be prepared to reload saves to try different strategies. Overall it is a great game.
Regarding the NFS games: SHIFT for 5$ is a steal, it's an excellent arcade/sim racer. I liked it a lot more than Grid. I also couldn't get into Hot Pursuit after figuring I'd love it, cos of Criterion. Part of that is it appears to be poorly optimized for PC and slows down a lot.
If you don't mind me asking, what's your PC specs? I'm asking because I'm trying to judge whether my rig'll run NFS: Hot Pursuit. Running an Asus G50 (Core2Duo 2.26ghz, 8GB DDR2, GF 9800GS (mobile, 275.50 Verde) 512meg, SSD+HD, 1366x768 LCD).

Thanks.

I have the same laptop as you, but stock, so 4GB RAM and no SSD (not sure about video drivers, either) The game runs ok, but tends to slow a bit when going really fast, maybe cos of the post processing. I tried to find a solution, but I mostly found posts confirming the issue and no solution. It runs better than GTA IV and worse than Burnout Paradise, in summary.

Daily Deal - PuzzleQuest: Challenge of the Warlords 66% off! :D ($3.33)

A blend of an RPG and puzzle game, simply amazing to my taste in games.

IGN: 8.6/10
Ever since the PQ guys decided they wouldn't release their DLC for PC, I swore off the whole stupidly addictive franchise
You've got to be the only person I've seen on these forums whose avatar fits them perfectly. Wait... Is that... you? =P
I'm just displeased at the loss of a whole campaign/new class that I'll not get to play for PQ.
I didn't mean that as a bad thing, and I didn't take your previous post as a personal attack. What I said was just something I've been wanting to say, and that was the time to do it.

On a more related note, I share your frustration, although I wasn't aware of it before you said it here. It kind of reminds me of the many games that are introduced to the pc as well as a console, or consoles, only for the sequel to be available exclusively to a certain console or consoles.

I guess they're trying to force us into console gaming, but for me it just pisses me off. Take the Fable series for instance (before Fable 3 came out).

Puzzle Quest is a great addicting game. I played it to death on my psp when it came out. I find it to be a lot better than puzzle quest 2. The items are cooler and the game is much faster in pace. Id buy it for pc if it had steam achievements.
Also, Puzzle Quest was $1.50 in last year's christmas sale

No worries. I get snapped at so often here I get a little bit raw.

Yeah, the DLC has a post-game campaign and an additional class or two. Nothing that couldn't be handled by the mod tools of the previous game, but it's still a slap in the face on a game I bought twice now.

Then I played PQ2's demo and the magic felt completely gone. it was like emerging from a dark dungeon from which I thought there was no escape and seeing sunlight for the first time in years.

PoP did it also with that Epilogue DLC. I'm just grateful the trend appears to be subsiding. As far as sequels going console? Well, I guess that's to be expected of some games. It's part of why I keep the consoles around. I keep hearing hearsay that Epic was displeased with the PC sales/piracy ratio for Gears. Fable 3 coming back to PC late and after being revealed by most everyone who played it as a... not entirely satisfying experience probably did it no favors either.

I see your point, helps me understand a little what they were thinking. Still peeved about Fable 2 and other games of the sort, but I can see why they would pull it from the PC. Pretty soon PC gaming is going to get really ugly (DRM-hell, other over-the-edge anti-piracy measures). Meh...

Meh, Diablo 3 outweighs that all.
Meh, Diablo 3 outweighs that all.
Blizzard is an entirely different story. An entirely different category of bs, if you will.

I have Puzzle Quest for the DS. It's a good little game except for the fact that the AI get all the bullshit stupid moves. Seriously the AI in this game is fucking not bad but cheap as hell. Worth the price though.

The unpredictability of it is the main frustration I have with PQ, but it is a fun game. Even with all of the other issues RollingSkull mentioned there's still a good deal of entertainment to be had for $3.33.

I think everyone has already played Puzzle Quest. :)

But yes, it's a stellar game and a far superior one than PQ2.

If you enjoy the game, I would also recommend Puzzle Kingdoms, which is an earlier game by the same developer.

So I went to a tech camp for Half Life 2 Modding, (iD Tech Camp) and regardless of what course you took, you walked home with a free code for Portal. Of course, I already have the game, but seeing how it's 9.99 on Steam and I have a code for free, I figured I would find someone that wanted the game, ask them to gift me a game less than 9.99 (I want Deathmatch Classic, which is 4.99) and I would walk off with a free game and someone else with 5 bucks.

So I'll give you the code and you can gift me Deathmatch Classic.

The only problem is what order this should be done in, preferably you've been a member here for a while so I can give you the code knowing you'd keep up your end of the bargain.

Thanks,

Looks like I'm a black sheep.

I'd pick it up, but my pride and backlog, prevent me from buying it when it has been on sale for $1.50 earlier this year.

Hopefully it hits the $1.50 mark on an upcoming sale.

Nah, I'm with you except I'd be double dipping (own it on Xbox Live). It's still worth the current cost, but I'm in no hurry to play it again with a backlog to work through.

Anyone from Europe willing to gift me a copy of NFS - Hot Pursuit -- it's quite a bit cheaper for those in the Euro zone (I'm in the USA)... Paypal would be sent immediately...

Lol way to wait until the last hour. =P Good luck haha.
Is Shadows of Chernobyl an expansion to S.T.A.L.K.E.R or its own game?
It is the original STALKER game. STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. The expansions are Call of Pripyat and Clear Sky.

So wait they are independent games from each other but you should play S:SoC before STALKER? Sorry, I bought these at the last steam sale and am just confused as to which I need to install/what order to play.

Lolwut? They're the same game. Shadow of Chernobyl is a subtitle.

Shadow of Chernobyl IS Stalker 1. The second game is Pripyat. The third game is Clear Sky. They are sequels. There are no "expansions".
Hmm, no daily deal yet?
Yeah, that's what I was checking on, to make sure I wasn't somehow missing it. It's been late before, but it always worries me. I would really hate to see daily deals end. On the other hand, my Dead Island finally came in the mail, so I pretty much know what I'll be playing anyway...
Lolwut? They're the same game. Shadow of Chernobyl is a subtitle.
Then why on my steam does it say STALKER and Stalker SoC seperatly? They are listed as two unique games. They are both listed independently from each other and I bought both separately. They also both installed independently of each other.

JFC people. . .

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

That is the release order.
Then why on my steam does it say STALKER and Stalker SoC seperatly? They are listed as two unique games. They are both listed independently from each other and I bought both separately. They also both installed independently of each other.
Because Valve is stupid.

O wait. I see why. Because in your uninstalled game list CoP is simply listed as STALKER. Now that its installed its listed as Stalker CoP.

Sigh, ok now that we have that clarified. Does it matter that I dont own Clear Sky? Like that ill start with SoC, skip CS and jump right in to CoP?

Skip it. All it did was introduce a few new areas and the upgrade system, which were all refined in CoP. It wasn't that memorable and by the time you get some fun toys to play with, the game ends abruptly. It's also a prequel if you want to get technical, so you miss nothing.

Whoops, sorry. I was going off the top of my head there. Didn't mean to generate more confusion than there already was! :whee:
Cool. Thanks for all the help! Now hopefully I actually enjoy this game ;)
Does this actually do anything more then increase the visuals? Also how much does it increase system specs? My PC is getting pretty old so I have to start worrying about this stuff. I can run Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 no problems, run borderlands at low mid end settings and played FEAR no problem. But when I played Fear 2 I noticed some slow down and most newer games that iv tried CYRI scans on put me at just below min recommended specs.

Edit - Also i hate being a cheap ass and a hippy/someone that cares about energy use. Id love to do a tri monitor set up like that, so freaking slick!
