Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Also, I wish Magus hadn't put me on his ignore list. He seems like a really cool guy. :(
Awww shucks Thank you! No clue why you would say that when all I did was ask about this game heh. I actually took you off within the last 2 or 3 weeks. If people get snippy or rude I put em on but take em off after a period of time....with some people it just seems to be their nature so after 2 or 3 chances I leave them on permanently(pretty rare thing and strell/knoell are the only two I can think of iv done that with). The older I get the less I feel I want to be around name calling, bickering and childishness.....ESPECIALLY since that type of behavior is infectious and when i catch myself doing it I am really disgusted.

I feel you, maybe I had a bad day or something. I try and do my best to stay positive but sometimes I might act dumb. I take meds that don't let me think straight sometimes. Thanks for taking me off the naughty list lol.

Heh well as I said putting someone on the "naughty list" has as much to do with me as anyone else. I dont want to act like an ass myself so when someone gets on my nerves obviously it can bring that out of you ;) I actually pretty much avoid the politics board for that exact reason. The way people act there just brings the worst out of everyone....

LMAO

Okay back to the important stuff. GAMES!

Tried CoJ and really couldnt get in to it, though I am also VERY picky on FPSers.

I am really hoping Bastion goes on sale, but I have a feeling ill have to wait till the Christmas sale for any decent discount on it.

Someone has (had?) a copy in the trade thread. You might be able to get a decent deal. I had planned on offering $10, but I realized I wouldnt be playing it anytime soon.

Today is a pass for me. No matter how good/bad COJ is, I just can't get into western themed games, nor am I a fan of the whole western theme itself.

Also for those wanting Hard Reset, there is no pre load on it, which really sucks because I might be getting Starcraft II on sale tomorrow and I could imagine Blizzard has a few gigs worth of patches .

Although can't wait for Hard Reset.

K-mart has Starcraft II in store or online for $40. I will try my luck in store, if not grab it online.

Thanks. Ill look I doubt he would be willing to go less then $10 and to me id rather just wait since within 3 months or so the Christmas sale will most likely have it for $2.50-$5.00. I think id pay $7.50 right now but $10+ is too rich for my cheap ass blood ;) Thanks again!

There's no way they'd put it up for $2.50-$5.00 during this year's Christmas sale. MAYBE $7.50, but that's only if we're lucky. It's a game with great reviews, they'll milk it for as long as they can. Maybe summer of next year we'll see a price like that, but definitely not this Winter. Although I sure do hope we see a low price like that. =]
Does this actually do anything more then increase the visuals? Also how much does it increase system specs? My PC is getting pretty old so I have to start worrying about this stuff. I can run Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 no problems, run borderlands at low mid end settings and played FEAR no problem. But when I played Fear 2 I noticed some slow down and most newer games that iv tried CYRI scans on put me at just below min recommended specs.

Edit - Also i hate being a cheap ass and a hippy/someone that cares about energy use. Id love to do a tri monitor set up like that, so freaking slick!
It overhauls and adds to much to the game it is a must have mod. It is essential, even for your first time, it is that good.

Super Meat Boy, Torchlight, Magicka and Terraria all say hello. All of them dropped as much or more in a much shorter period of time.

This. Remember Recettear around the Thanksgiving sale; it was included as a bundle including five additional games (Gish, AYiM, Jolly Rover, Puzzle Agent) for only $5. The retail price on Steam is $19.99 just for the game. This wasn't long after Recettear was released on Steam either.

Super Meat Boy dropped to $3.75 shortly after release as well, much to many early adopter's chagrin. Terraria was recently $2.50 (albeit a price error). Because of this, I'm absolutely hesitant to purchase anything that has less than a 75% price reduction.

/nod even if I am wrong I guarantee its still 50% off at the Christmas sale but id place good money on 75-80%. Even full release games can drop like this. I recall getting borderlands for I believe like $27.50 just a few months after release.

Reviews are pegging Hard Reset at under four hours and fairly linear, so if you haven't pre-ordered you may want to take that into consideration.

MSI - Kaotik is right - the "Complete" mods are absolutely essential to this game. They improve the visuals and fix many bugs. You get a sleeping bag so you can sleep (playing at night is really difficult before you get a suit with night vision). Interface improvements, too. And fast travel, if you care to use it, saves you a lot of time.

Also: play on "Novice". Seriously. Gun combat is WAY too difficult in this game. "Novice" on this game is like most games' "hard".

Last tip: Game guides really help you get through the rough patches. I like this one from IGN. And this amateur one is very helpful, too.

The game is very frustrating at first, but I came to love it the more I played and learned its internal structure. It's an excellent game but kinda thorny and hard to love. Good luck

I liked Stalker until the linear, chokepoint-heavy levels killed any desire I had to explore and the creeping feeling that all there was to do was shoot Russians or aliens buried it,

CoJ:BiB is fantastic. I love it to death and highly recommend it if you want a Wild West FPS. It definitely tells a better Western-themed story than RDR, in my opinion, made even better if you never played the first CoJ.

It's not better than RDR as a game but it's damn good for what it does.

What shooter isn't linear and Bulletstorm was about the same length. Plus it was $26 so I think it's an ok price.

I bought Call of Juarez last year when it was on sale in a pack with Assassins Creed, Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Farcry 2. I played it for a few hours and then my harddrive died and I lost my save file. So i never played it again. But it was pretty fun. If only all steam games had steam cloud...

I think there is a method of only applying the gameplay enhancements, leaving the visuals untouched.

Uh no. I've never played these on anything but Master and the combat is fine, unless you're some COD run n' gun drooler. Use cover, keep your guns repaired and you'll do fine.

I was going to go find evidence to back up my claim that the difficulty is too hard (I've read that so many times for STALKER...), but I found this thread, instead. Which leads me to think that it might actually be easier to play on higher difficulty levels. Now i wish I hadn't played on Novice, which is advice I took from someone else. You may be on to something here. I retract my advice to play on Novice, and I'm interested to learn how it worked for others.

Jodou is absolutely right that you need to play in-character. Use cover, and pick the right weapon for the task. Use artifacts to your advantage.

One thing for sure is that for the first half of the game, your weaponry is underpowered. Dark Valley is particularly difficult in this regard. Scopes and silencers are your best friends, and the game guides can help you find those. Once you start getting NATO weapons and decent armor, you become much more powerful and effective in combat. There is no character advancement like in normal RPGs, so you have to rely on your tools to improve your game as you go.

Agreed. It lets you customize the decks from the cards given to you, so you can keep all the decks at 60 cards. Also the interface is better than the other and it has 3 different campaigns.

I haven't played Magic since the mid 90's, but really wanted to give Planeswalkers 2012 a try.

Is it pretty easy to pick up and get into if I'm not a hardcore MTG player?

$5 seems like a really good deal.

2012 deals with mostly core mechanics, most of which you're already familiar with. You should be fine. It's a really great game, and a great way to get your MTG fix. :D

I had this problem with the last game, and I just tried the demo for 2012 and it doesn't seem to be fixed at all. It seems like the decks aren't balanced very well at the beginning, and barring a very lucky draw you just lose because they have stuff you can not counter.

Cool thanks for the info, I'll be picking this up after I hit submit :)

My worry was that I wouldn't like it since I have been out of MTG for a long time and haven't kept up with it. but from what I read it sounds like they are trying to make these types of games more accessible to the general public.

I would pick up M12 to play with friends on PC but after playing the PS3 version I can't do it. The AI gets all the fucking good draws and it seems you get jack shit all the time and can't counter the AI.

Also you can't build your own deck. You are only allowed to use the premade decks. Although you do unlock cards for the decks over time which you can swap out cards, but your not allowed to build decks from scratch.
I was told you can't build your own deck from scratch, but I find that hard to believe. Can anyone shed some light on that?
You cannot build a deck from scratch in 2012, but there are a bunch of themes for decks and you unlock cards for them as you play. So you can still customize how you want your deck to work without building it from the ground up.

2012 is great if you havent touched MTG in 10+ years, it's a really good entry into the game again or for the first time

You can not build an entire deck from scratch. That is my main reason for passing. You get 2 decks to start with (forest and plains) and for each game you win with them you unlock a card for that deck which you can put in in place of another card. Only 16 cards can be unlocked per deck. I know you unlock additional decks, not sure how many though.

You can't make your own decks because Magic: The Gathering Online exists, and doing so would eat into thier profits.

5$ is a pretty good deal for 10 premade decks.

Ok so i see there is a bundle with extra expansions. Are these necessary or recommended? My guess is these give you access to additional decks or cards?

It looks like that includes foil versions of the current decks (totally pointless IMO), unlocks all the decks and includes an upcoming expansion. The expansions to the last game were 5$ each,so unless you really want everything unlocked just get the base game.

The full decks just unlock content that you can unlock for free in the game. As far as I know they do not add any content.

I was waiting on a sale for this; would prefer the XBLA version (like the interface and sitting on the couch playing it), but I really wanted the new version. Surely the PC online community is thriving!?
