Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Oh god, halloween sale is here. Luckily a lot of those titles I have no interest in.

Although I did grab the fear collection and Ghostbusters the game for $9.50.

Will I grab more, who knows, that was just the first glance .

hoping for a sale on Isaac, guess it's a bit too early for that still. I know it's only a $5 game, I just hate paying full price for anything. Stupid CAG brainwashing.

Damn, I was really hoping Pound of Ground would be on sale. Doesn't mean I won't pick through the list and see if I can find something I can't live without.

Think I'll get Cthulhu and find someone to do a two pack for Dead Horde. Maybe Sherlock Holmes the Awakening and Woody Two Legs as well.

Dead Space controlled great using KB+M for me. Don't remember much about the graphics options but it looked good on my rig.

Can anybody comment on Scratches? The last Point and Click game I played was 'D' on the PS1, and Scratches looks intriguing.

Also, I know people always say one of the Painkiller games is the best, is it Painkiller Black?

I haven't played Scratches, but I just happened to be posting the adventure games from this sale in the deal thread on an adventure games site that I frequent and had the review up. They gave it 4/5 stars and said, "Scratches is a great adventure game that shouldn't be missed by anyone who enjoys a story well told within a scary, gothic presentation."

And since I already typed it up, here are the adventure games in the sale:

Graphics for Dead Space are great but no native Vsync option. I had to force it in the Nvidia CP. Also Mouse/KB felt lagged for me. I used a gamepad

Hmm not sure if I am pleased by the Halloween sale. Not like I need to be getting more stuff on steam right now XD. Still for the painkiller collection and Ghostbusters the video game I think I will have to bite. You win this round again steam.

I appreciate it, I think I will bite. I'm trying to limit myself to ~$20, and have Bloodlines, F.E.A.R. pack, Ghostbusters, Scratches, and Amnesia. I wish I could stuff the Dead Space pack in there somewhere, but I think with the popularity of DS, it'll show up again in the Winter sale.

Great list, was wondering if I could find something like this easily. Also, can anyone recommend any of these over any other? My sister is a big Nancy Drew and Sherlock Holmes fan, but I'm sure she'd get into any of these games. I just recently got her into steam, so I bet she'd like 1 or 2 of these.
How does dead space control on the PC? What about the graphics options?
I preferred a gamepad. The gamepad felt more natural but maybe that's because I first played it on 360. It's fine with KBM, nothing wrong in my experience.
How does dead space control on the PC? What about the graphics options?
Controls just fine. I use a gamepad anyway, but the mouse and keyboard work pretty well.

The graphics are a bit of an annoyance, at least for the first game. If you turn v-sync on ingame, then the fps gets capped at 30. You can turn off v-sync and get 60 fps, but then you get some screen tearing.

The solution is to just disable ingame v-sync and use your graphics control panel and enable auto v-sync through your driver. (Essentially, the same resolution for Darksiders on PC) This nets you 60 fps with minimal (if any) tearing.

Perhaps not surprisingly, that looks very similar to my cart (except I already own Scratches).

Dead Space controlled great, I think you just need to make sure you turn vsync on or the mouse cursor will lag. Otherwise aiming is much better with a mouse.

Oh thank god. I'm finally at the point where I have most of what I want on Steam. And thankfully, this sale has none of the rest.

Well, okay, I'm kinda tempted by Cthulhu.

Also note, not on that list (or it wasn't when I just perused it) is Ghostbusters: The Video game. This is not the same as Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, which is a seperate game. G:TVG is very good, and on sale for $2.49 - I can't recommend it highly enough at that price.

(Disclaimer: I played it on the 360, so I know nothing about any potential problems that may or may not exist while playing G:TVG on the PC which may or may not hamper the experience in some way. That being said, if any problems do exist, they'd have to be game stoppers to detract from the amount of fun you'll get from that game, especially at that price.)
Need to get amnesia, but why oh why is call of cthluhu never on sale?!?!
YES. (On both counts - Amnesia is very much worth picking up. You also might want to look at the Penumbra pack as well, it was the previous outing by the same developer.)

But I have been waiting for Cthulhu to go on sale for... well... a year and a half now, at least. Stupid Squenix. Just put the g**d*** game on sale, already.
Wish there was a demo for Vampire. I'm not normally into first-person action games, but the theme interests me.
You actually don't have to play in first person, you can play in third if you want, actually makes melee easier. It's definitely worth getting if you have interest in the theme.

Nice breakdown, Kaotik!

I'm in for STALKER: Call of Pripyat for $3.74. The only STALKER I don't own. I've been waiting for a great sale price like this one. Boo-ya!

I've just watched a couple gameplay videos, and I have to say my interest in this game has mega-spiked. Seeing that you don't have to play in first-person was a huge plus for me. Although it looks quite dark for my tastes at times, so much else looks wicked awesome.

Does the game's storyline differ depending on which character class you play as?

Yes, definitely. One class has you talking to street signs.

Definitely grabbing the Painkiller and FEAR collections. Thinking about grabbing the first Bioshock so I have it on PC as well.

Also, Atom Zombie Smasher and Space Pirates and Zombies are pretty good games in my book. The SPAZ developers are really good dudes too.

Yes, Black is the best and the expansions are not bad. Mostly the same with some new levels and weapons.
I think thats the lowest painkiller has been anywhere.
I believe that is correct.

It can be played in third person also. It's more like Deus Ex with vampires. Lots of choices on how to approach situations. It also uses the an early version of the Source engine so graphic wise it still holds up. This game is truly a gem. At five dollars if you are interested in the story I highly HIGHLY recommend buying. After that make sure you get one of the fan patches. Since they fix many bugs that were present in the game. The original reviews for the game were good but the game had it's share of bugs. I picked it up back during the Summer sale like many CAGs for like 10 bucks since we thought it would never be on sale again . A few weeks later it's 75% for a weekend deal. Once again it's 75%, my guess, though is it will not be this cheap again for awhile. Hope this helps! :)
Good job Capcom for not putting any of your titles at 75% off and failing to include Dead Rising 2.
I dont get how Dead Rising 2 is not in this sale.
FEAR and Nation Red are what pop out at me. Nation Red is great and totally worth picking up (even at full price)
I want to second this. Show this developer some LOVE! I bought it more than a year ago because I wanted a decent top down TS shooter (zombies are a bonus) and the developer has worked tirelessly to pump it full of free updates. They interact highly with requests made on the SPUF and have got themselves a hell of a game and that price is amazing.

A million times this.

Does the game's storyline differ depending on which character class you play as?
Which clan/class you play changes the dialogue and how people react to you. Your decisions will change the outcomes of situations, what you have to do, etc....but the main storyline mostly doesn't change all that much.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...

I'm thinking about the Painkiller series, but the reviews aren't great. I'd just be buying them to get four games for $5.

I can see everything in this sale being offered for less in one to two months time.

Could someone please look through the Halloween sale games and point out which ones have cooperative play? It would be a big help for me. PM the results if you're able to do so.

Great to know! I remember when CAG was flipping out because Vampire was finally on sale, and at $5, it seems an even more amazing price. Watching gameplay videos further cemented my interested. I'm definitely getting this one.

Good to know! Thanks!
I'm downloading a demo to Overlord. I've always thought it looked neat. At $5 for both Overlord games, I think it's worth me trying the demo now.
While those games are quite fun (I liked them a bunch) the game seems to be better suited for a controller than kb/m and that is mainly because of the mouse. Having to hold down both mouse buttons whilst moving it isn't the best.

They are fun games, a lot like Pikmin
