Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Got the Psychonauts achievement.. and it rewarded me with more coal lol. The game is great, but the low quality cutscenes are hideous, wish those were more polished.

I tried to play the game years ago and found it horribly ugly. Granted, I never had an Xbox and was playing this on 360. The game is far prettier on PC. So, you know, that's something. ;)
Soooo Shogun 2 is on sale over at Amazon for 7.50... Its a Steam game too
Worth it at that price for sure.
I actually bought it when it 15 bucks at the end of november. Should of waited, but i got my moneys worth so far. So no complaints.

I played Pyschonauts on Xbox when it first came out. I adore that game as well as Schafer. A must play, especially now with achievements and higher quality. I got the achievement and the game looks great imo. The story line is very powerful and the characters are hilarious and some of the best i've ever had the pleasure of meeting. The music is fantastic too. Easily in my top 25 of all time. I'd call it moving as well. I picked it up w/o hesitation.
I would really like to sit down with whoever came up with this coupon idea. They're equivalent to giving you nothing since the games you get coupons on are cheaper during the current sale than they would be if you used the coupon once it became valid in January. There is absolutely zero point to them. I'd rather they tell me I'm getting nothing instead of cluttering up a screen with useless coupons.
What if we could use the coupons to craft even better coupons (25% + 25% = 50%)?

I would retract all my newly found hate for these "Mann Co Supply Crates" of the Steam inventory.

You are all scaring me now with this whole coal crafting into useless coupons thing. I don't know what to do with my coal...

Reminds me of Deus Ex Human Revolution ... ba dum ching ...

Seriously though, it makes me sad that I stopped playing Deus Ex after an hour because I was so bothered by the low res cutscenes and I still haven't gone back yet

I managed to get The Witcher enhanced edition from crafting 7 coal.. the problem is, I already own it. Oh well, hopefully I can trade it for something I want. Much better than a coupon, in either case.

Many kind thank yous, my friend.

So, Chantelise and Psychonauts for me today, to go along with Dungeons Of Dreadmor. The latter is probably the last game I will buy for a Steam achievment.

I bought Dungeons of Dredmor on Monday, right before it was a daily deal. Oh well. Only "lost" $2. :p I definitely don't get upset about those times, though, because I make out so well on so many other games!

Picked up these so far...
Hamiltons Great Adventure
Dungeons of Dredmor
Defense Grid: The Awakening DLC: You Monster!
Aaaaaaa! Awesome
Aaaaa!!! Brutal Concussion
Hamilton's Great Adventure - Retro Fever DLC
Dungeons of Dredmor: Realm of the Diggle Gods
Pendulo Adventure Pack
Anomaly: Warzone Earth
I watched some Youtube videos of DNF and the DLC for it and boy howdy it convinced me not to buy it real fast. Snapped me out of whatever spell they had that magically convinced me that DNF would not be utter crap with some magic DLC campaign.

Thanks a bunch to you all who tried to stop me from buying DNF. You are heroes, every one of you. You stopped me from becoming a statistic.
Thanks for chronicling your DNF struggle. I, too, have been tempted by its $5 admission price for "fun." Playing the demo scared me straight and has kept me off that junk ever since.

Glad it didn't come to an intervention. Still sad that I have a friend who swears DNF is the best FPS he's played in years...

Double dipped on the Double Fine pack. Already got a 100% on Costume Quest for PS3 but looking forward to playing it again. I bought Pyschonaughts on a GOG 24hr sale and haven't touched it. I like to support Mr Schafer.

Why do I feel the need to buy something everyday?

Picked up Costume Quest. Never played it before but it always sounded like a fun, short romp.

got psychonauts for $2.50. Ive been waiting on it for a long time.

On a side note, apparently Gish has Steam achievements now. I dont know when they added that.

Also I read someone say that Renegade Ops was super boring. I finally got around to playing it, and its LOADS of fun. I love twin stick shooters. It only gets better with the ability to level up and learn perks.

has anyone played anything from the gundemonium collection? 3 bullet hell shmups for $5 is pretty tempting... then again, they have winter chevos so it might be a daily. any opinions on the games though?

I bought Tropico 4 last night, I had to go to bed. :(
I'm inspired to be like Roger from American Dad when he was in charge of the isle of bananrama. :D

Not to be antagonistic, but I've noticed more and more people posting comments like these. As CAG's, we're more likely to respect responses if one gives a reason for critical posts. Otherwise, it's Drama Rockets left and right from the Internet Children.

CAG's, do not let this place become like every other forum; Let's unite (Unite.) in our quest to spend as little as possible.

Dungeons of Dredmor took 2-3 attempts for me to "get" it.

First time i tried it, I liked all of the various perks that you could give your character but then I blew it all by dying within 30 seconds.

I tried it the following night, but wasn't feeling in the mood and ended up quitting after hacking 2-3 blobs to a jellified death.

It wasn't until a friend mentioned that he'd played it (and really enjoyed it), coupled with a few well-writted articles on http://www.RockPaperShotgun.com, that I decided to give it a proper shot. The tutorial, all 10 minutes of it, made a hell of a difference. I played, died after an hour, and had a good time. I'll be re-visiting once I've got some Xmas achies out of my system, it's a grower :)

Sidenote - I've played quite of a bit of Binding of Isaac, recently too. Not something I expected I would like when I first picked it up.

This. For those saying the game is difficult, play the tutorial. It's practically essential.

Well my Psychonauts wont be downloaded in time to get the achievement anyway, but it's alright.

Totally not going to get the achievements for Binding of Issac or Super Meat Boy. Those are just hell.

One hour till today's drops, can't wait

Unless I am mistaken you can still go for previous achievements even after the day their listed.

I don't think you're required to get the achievements on the day they're featured in order to get the gift. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not 100% certain.

Agree whole-heartedly here. I must have died 5 times trying to get that Christmas achievement. The game isn't super instantly approachable. Once I played the tutorial, I was able to survive much longer.

You know, I tried out DoD briefly after getting it from an indie bundle and didn't care for it. Playing it to get the achievement yesterday, I had a blast. Maybe it's an acquired taste.

I am a weak man. After going all day avoiding it, picked up costume quest, psychonauts, and DoD. Oh lottery-style gifts you are too tempting.
