Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I'm not even good enough at the game to do the achievement. Surely I'd get a coupon anyway. 25% off Meridian4 and 50% off The Void today. =\
Maybe if you keep restarting the match it'll glitch for you like it did for me LOL. The glitch makes it ridiculously easy, no skill required.

Doing the TF2 achievement with bots and friendly fire on is so much easier and faster, took me less than a minutes to get all 3 of them.
Just use the Heavy standing next to the Ammo/Health respawn and kill your teammates.

Will do the same with CS and DoD just in case.

What glitch? I'm having trouble with the game too :p
What glitch? I'm having trouble with the game too :p
There's some weird glitch that prevents enemies from appearing on the screen, so they don't damage you but you get kills. I don't know what triggers it, happened randomly to me.

I want Homefront, but I'm not going to pay more than $5 for it.

I picked up SPAZ and some Tomb Raider: Guardian of Light and Dungeon Defenders DLC (not new one).

I want to play the Dead Space, but I hate scary games and movies...
Yeah.. the game glitched for me as well.. and not only that, the achievement glitched too ugh. I got it but it's not unlocked on the giftpile page, any suggestions?

The achievement was easy to get due to the weird glitch that makes nearly all of the enemies not appear on the screen.
Do you remember how you did that? I am trying to reproduce that now because I want revenge
Do you remember how you did that? I am trying to reproduce that now because I want revenge
I don't know how I did it, I set mines where the enemies spawned near the start of the match, but I doubt that's what triggered it. I did restart the match a few times because I kept failing. It could be completely random for all I know.
And for the record, I find Sequence's dialogue funny. I took a bunch of screencaps to show my hubby later.

"On a scale of one to whining, shut your face."

"My offense is 5? Why 5? That's so arbitrary."

Description for an item - Obsidian: The most evil-sounding mineral.

I just love how the game makes fun of itself. :D
I actually enjoyed the banter as well. In a game like this, it works pretty well... this isn't, like, Soul Reaver.

Throwing in more support for Getgamesgo. Got my Serious Sam code in about 1.203 minutes.

Also, Solar 2 was a true joy for me. I could see why some people wouldn't like it, but I had a great time getting the achievement and I moved it into my playing pile instead of backlog, which is really something with a backlog as big as mine.

Also, I heard just one dude made that game? That makes me want to donate to a fund to find hundreds of womb-donors to carry his offspring to fruition so that in 18 years we have a new crop of dudes and dudettes who can go out there and make creative games without even needing help or permission from Bobby Kotick's evil clones (is Bobby Kotick's evil clones redundant?).

I can't handle scary games or movies either. 10 minutes into Amnesia and I was done. That said, I was able to play through Dead Space. While it was scary, it wasn't terribly scary. The game play was really fun- unlearning the headshot.

Yeah I remember I was playing the game, and I got an im, went to check it and boom, glitched. Wish I could reproduce it because I am not going to spend the time for the requirements for this cheevo.
This is not a complaint, as I have been posting about achievements as well, but with all the game/coupon/coal hunting I miss those CAG posts that show a couple of hidden gems in the sale.

So far I have only Dark Void (2.99) and Dark Void Zero (0.99), not to mention CAG favorite Faerie Solitaire (1.00). Any other finds?
Capsized looks like a fun game I've been eyeing since it came out. Thinking of biting now that it's 75% off. Also Sacred (a diablo clone I didnt know before) looks interesting.

Thanks for that. I will consider it then. :)

Just ordered as well, mine came in less than a minute. Calming down, perhaps. :)
Revenge of the Titans achievement is impossible....
Yeah, there is a thread in the Steam forums asking for someone to upload a savegame. I am hoping someone does because the amount of work and pain required for this is not worth it.

I mean the Dungeon Defenders one takes awhile to level up, but to get to it you at least have to play the game, not just do a hell level from nothing for an achievement which will turn people off from the game.
Just thought I'd throw in my, "I'm getting pitiful download speeds too," chime.
I still am as well. I was hitting my normal speeds earlier, but I'm back down to 200 KB/s.
picked up 5 or 6 TF2 presents today in a regular match and no achievement - are there any specific rules that I might be missing?
I did mine the other day and it didn't register on the challenges page until around 11:30AM PST. Just wait.

EDIT: oh wait, the cheevo didn't pop at all? Dunno then.

Looks like it's just SPAZ and the two indie Serious Sams for me today. Two more objectives for me to do today, the first three all gave coal. If I wasn't on vacation I probably wouldn't bother.

Whoever decided the Revenge of the Titans achievement needs punched in the face. Not even gonna bother with it anymore. Hopefully someone comes up with a save game or something.

Question, I did the Champions achievement today to get 10 presents and use them on 10 people but no achievement registered. Is it because Steam didn't start that achievement yet? If so, will I automatically get it or do I have to do it again?

Finally caved in and got the Prince of Persia titles (except the 2008 one.) Now I just hope I can make them play nice with the 360 controller.

So far got Jurassic Park, Psychonauts, and PoP titles.

^
I think it's going to take a while before they figure out how to get it to work

Edit:
Entire save folder was uploaded and it works

Just crafted 7 pieces of coal and received the Fallout Collection (which I am looking forward to playing).

Have been tempted by a few games so far, but I am not sure if they will show up in Indie Bundles later on (since I will not play them right away).

Tempted to pick up some of the Prince of Persia and Tomb Raider games (already have Prince of Persia: Sot, WW, and TT and Tomb Raider: Anniversary and GoL)

I enjoyed Assassins Creed on 360, tempted to pick up II and Brotherhood, but I am not sure how the controls are and if there is any bonus to continuing on the same system.

I crafted 7 coals into... 50% Sam and Max Complete Pack. It' s currently 33%. Not bad but, of course, I already have all Sam & Max seasons.

I wonder how the ticket trading will be starting January 2nd.

I played Assassin's Creed 2 on pc, it's great fun and it comes with all the dlc for free. I'd definitely recommended it but do play with an Xbox 360 controller, the controls on the keyboard are pretty difficult but I played with the xbox 360 controller and it played perfectly.

Picked up Dungeon Defenders finally and got Sanctum in a trade for a spare copy of a game I already had.

That said I just now noticed that the original version of Street Fighter 4 is only 5 dollars during the sale. Might have to snag that up before the sale ends.

The SPAZ achievement is also kind of annoying. I played for about an hour, trying to kill enemies near each other so Santa Claus would come and collect the cookies and milk. But you can only control one ship at a time, and you need two ships, and the second one just goes around collecting the drops. And the controls should be better. It's one of those up goes forward types of games, with the mouse as a pointer, and that makes it annoying to shoot.
Just thought I'd throw in my, "I'm getting pitiful download speeds too," chime.
I just downloaded 4 games (3 today's chvs) at the same time with no problem. Then again, I'm in Chicago.

I'm near Chicago and I'm getting horrible speeds.
is Section 8 worth it? Probably interested in getting in on a 4-pack
The single-player campaign is better than the original, but still really cliched. Multi-player is near-dead, but you can play against bots. I got it around the same price and wasn't disappointed, but not thrilled either. Very meh. Also, if you're allergic to GFWL, avoid.

I own all the ACs on PS3 but 2 is one of my fav. games of all time and I can't pass it up at $5. Bought! I have AC1 from Direct2Drive and would rather have it on Steam but I'm not gonna purchase it twice, so just 2 for me today. Would grab Brotherhood for $5 some day.

Section 8 is a pretty great game that died far too quickly. GFWL ruined any and all chances it had at a healthy community, though. I kinda wish it went F2P, as the game has a lot of great ideas and potential.

Anyone know if dead space 2 is any good on the PC? I played part 1 on the xbox and it was great.

Should I go for the PC version or stick with the console version?
You are inferring they have done us all a great injustice and are receiving their comeuppance. What awful people. We certainly can use this swift retribution to them as a life long lesson on how to solve all of our world problems.
A great injustice to markets and prices, yes. It has nothing to do with retribution. If you don't want people to buy games for a penny and "game" the system, you charge a minimum price, and they seem to be doing that. There will be no more people buying the Humble Bundle for a penny and no more complaints about it.

Mine plays great on the pc. I use an Xbox controller to play. No mouse and keyboard here
