Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Which retail CD Keys are accepted on Steam?
Has anybody played the daily deal, Victoria II?

I like my turn-based strategies but it looks pretty deep. My experience with these kind of things is limited to Civilization (all editions).
No better place to start if you really want to try one of Paradox's serious strategy games. You'll either like it or decide that this entire sub-genre of games is completely not for you. "Three Moves Ahead" (the best strategy podcast out there) discusses Vic 2 a little in episode 121 (Pride of Nations was the topic) with Paradox's Philippe Thibaut. I honestly don't recall anything they said (it's been a while), but the podcast is usually a decent listen if you're remotely interested.

Hi, I have a Victoria II 60% off coupon if anyone is interested in the game. PM me and i'll give it to you :)

Sometimes one web browser doesn't work. For me it didn't work on chrome this time, firefox worked just fine.

This is some real bs... Apparently my subscription ends on 12/31/1969, and whenever I sign in and try to enter into a free trial membership (I'm already on an unwanted paid membership) it says that I already have access to Prime. I go to the Prime page and it's telling me to sign in while I already am.. Nice website IGN.

Cleared cookies, etc. to no avail. Sweet, looks like no free Rochard for me. ;)

It won't let you in even if you sign in the second time? I had it ask me to sign in again when I went to get the game. After I did, it worked fine for me.

That happened to me a couple of months ago as well. Then I switched computers and I was able to sign in with no problems.

Simply switching browsers might be enough though.

Tried my laptop and my phone, and also tried internet explorer (I use Firefox) to no avail.

Pretty sure it has something to do with my current subscription ending on 12/31/1969 according to my membership page.
Hmmm, I guess the only answer left is that IGN hates you.
LOL. That's much more likely. I've emailed support about it. I'll post here when I get an answer.

I think IGN must hate me as well. I tried 3 different browsers and 3 different email addresses all are either not registering and not logging in, or they login but the prime part is not registering even after I entered payment info (Paypal).

I want the last hour of my life back. :p I think I will just buy Rochard on the next big sale and call it good.
Can someone remind me, turning off auto-renew on the Prime account is the same as canceling the subscription right? That's how I remember it.
I believe so. Either way, you don't get charged after your free trial.
Can someone remind me, turning off auto-renew on the Prime account is the same as canceling the subscription right? That's how I remember it.
100% correct.

Thanks. I just got an email that said cancellation confirmed so it's all fine. These free games with the free trial are almost too good to be true. I got 2 other free games a few weeks ago.
having a ton of issues with signing up for IGN Prime. No wonder nobody wants this crap service.
It's clearly a problem on their end, but this hasn't happened before (to my knowledge). It's pretty ridiculous though, even if the majority of the people who are Prime members are free members just in it for the free games. It's hard to complain about free, but I personally am a paid member (didn't cancel in time) and since they've got my money for it I'm pretty pissed about this.

Wow. I was feeling kinda stressed and thought I'd finally start up Limbo and it'd be relaxing and get me to chill out. Wrong game, it's pretty damn frustrating. Trial and error, and sometimes cheats to trick you into failing. I got to this part where
there are two pistons waiting to slam down and crush you. You had to only touch the button in the middle under the first one to get past, but on the second one you had to touch anything but the middle button to pass.
Dumb.

I'd say that's actually the opposite of dumb. You expected a pattern and the game countered it.

Then again, given the very generous checkpoints I'd say the "screw you!" failures the game tricks you into every once in a while are part of the fun. The only time it got on my nerves were the lenghts of a couple jumps in the middle of the game were pretty annoying to time right.

Tried logging in with my free membership, said my account doesn't exist. Tried adding a new one over to the left, kept prompting me for a password on the right (for existing users). I quit. IGN your website sucks.

I ran into problems trying to log into IGN with Chrome then used IE and it went fairly smooth(which is odd).

I also had to use a gmail account not a hotmail account.

Sidenote about Limbo: The glow worms were the worst part of that game. Whoever thought to make the game play more difficult would be a good idea needs to be stoned.

I'm having the same problem. I think I'm on the 4th day of my free trial, and whenever I sign in it's not giving me access to IGN Prime. According to IGN, my Prime expires on the 6th, makes no sense why it's not letting me use Prime.

EDIT: Apparently this is a very common problem happening today and can affect ALL Prime members, even the ones who have PAID for their subscriptions.. wow.

I'm not quite sure I understand the need for IGN Prime. Then again, I believe in giving each game my own opinion and getting feedback from a trusted community. (CAG's: Cheap, but honest.) I stopped looking at review websites years ago and I haven't looked back yet. (Admittedly, I occasionally enjoy a well-written review of a totally terrible game.)

By the way, what are the benefits of Prime? (I imagine its early trailers and unlimited forum access. Is it truly worthwhile?)

Forgive me if this post is a bit off-track.

A free indie game every month, occasional other goodies, I think they're gonna start doing a free mobile game a month, 15% off Direct2Drive purchases (Now Gamefly, I think.)

It's not a bad deal, but it's not a great one either. You about break even on the free indie games if you consider how much they cost when they were on Steam sales.

LOL, I finally managed to get Rochard. Here's what I did:

1. Created a new IGN account (there's a bug with IGN Prime that may lock you out of your Prime membership if you had a current subscription, basically it'll think you DON'T have Prime)

2. Signed up for a new trial, used old paypal info which was used for the previous trial on my old account.

3. Installed Opera (there's some weird bug that may not allow you to get the Rochard key unless you use a different browser or computer that hasn't logged into your IGN account. Opera worked for me, but a different computer/browser may work for you.)

4. Clicked on the claim key button for Rochard, and signed into fileplanet afterward. Success!

The funny thing is, I switched accounts again and got locked out of IGN Prime on my new IGN account after switching back (wanted to test it). IGN Prime is extremely buggy right now, hopefully they'll fix it.

Regaruding #3, it sounds like probably a cookie. In situations where I need a fresh browser to access something I like to use Chrome's incognito mode (porn browsing mode). You can select it from the menu or ctrl+shift+n (or whatever the OS X equivalent is) to open a window that should look new to the website.

Yeah I tried that just now and it worked for my new account, so I can access Prime on it again. However, my old account is still locked out. Instead of installing or using a new browser, that solution might be better. Had no idea Chrome had a feature like that lol, I usually use firefox. I think this bug is disabling Prime subscriptions, so if you don't have a current Prime subscription you'll probably be fine, but if you already have a Prime free trial the bug may affect you.

Well it was smart of the game if their goal is to kill me, but it's dumb for me cause I don't see how anyone would have survived that on the first try and the goal of a player is to survive. They were playing dirty! At first I was amused by the surprise deaths but that one bugged me and at that point I had already grown frustrated with all the deaths when I was in the mood to chill out. I still like the game, worth the $2.50 I paid.

Is there any way to redeem a key for a game you already have in order to store it in your inventory ? I already had Rochard but now have another key from the IGN thing. Figured I could trade it off for something else later on down the line.

Thanks a lot for the heads up guys, signed up for the trial, got Rochard, King Arthur and the Bastion soundtrack. And I really wanted to get Rochard so this is one sweet deal.

For what it's worth, IGN Prime is now up and fully working. Having Rochard in my library now is a pretty nice feeling. I thought it was gonna end up like that flying game they did a couple of weeks ago.

Yeah.. I regret missing that game. I think it only lasted for a couple hours. It's nice that IGN got the prime bug sorted out, now I have an extra Rochard key.
DOTD on Steam is Section 8 Prejudice for 66% off $5.09

Also Get Games go has a sale on a ton of SQ-Enix stuff and some notable items activate on steam (Items I know activate listed below but there may be more):

Dungeon Siege 3 Bundle

Is this the first time the bundle has gone on sale that cheap? I could swear that I remember it not being on sale over the winter sale but that the regular DS3 was.

I do know it's the only way to get DS1 & 2 on Steam currently.

I think the bundle in this case is DS3 and DLC not DS3 and DS1/2.

I know DS3 has been cheaper on Amazon but I think this is the lowest cost for the DLC it's been.

Yeah I just realized it's just a DLC bundle.

I'm still waiting for the one with DS 1 & 2 to go on sale dammit. It's really a pain that they won't sell those separately on Steam.

You're better off not getting DS 1 & 2 on Steam, anyway. The multiplayer is a HUGE part of those games, and the Steam versions have multiplayer disabled.

Not sure if there's a way to enable multiplayer without pirating, but if you're getting it on Steam it'll be strictly singleplayer without some workaround.
