Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V2! You can find the V1 thread (2010-July 2011) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Steam Games and DLC on Sale - Updated 2/12

Preorder Deals - Updated 2/12

Group Buys - Updated 07/23

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.
Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:
Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

The other thing I forget to mention about GoT Genesis is that the Steam version has TAGES DRM on it with a 5 activation limit. I remember reading on the forums that the developer had been point blank asked if they would remove the DRM from the Steam version since Steam is already a form of DRM and they refused.

Thanks for your assessment, Motoki. My wife was looking into it for its connection to the books, but it just doesn't seem like something either of us would want to play.

It looks like GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas went on sale because they just became Steamplay titles.

Steam Daily Deal:
killing floor for $1.49

great game. I spent over a hundred hours on this game. Youll love it if you love repetitive multiplayer zombie killing in fps with perks and steam achievements.

Killing Floor is always on sale and people seem to love it. I don't play multiplayer games, but somehow I'm feeling obligated to purchase it.

Dinner Date $2.49 50% off
That's a real game? *boggles*

The description makes it sound like you basically play a guy sitting around waiting for his date to show up and driving himself nuts with anxiety over it.

I'm all for unique and different games but not sure about this one.

It was 1.25 over Christmas as well
Is the dlc worth getting with killing floor?
DLC is just skins for characters. It's not necessary. Many get it to show support for the developer because they are constantly updating and adding new content and themed Holiday content for free.

Great game, kind of like a co-op horde mode style survival horror with bigger maps, a progressive Class/character leveling system, and purchasable weapons ala counterstrike.

Another note is that it is almost always one of the ticket item games in steam sales. If you want to play, add me on steam. I haven't played it a ton but definitely got 10-20 hours out of it and I know people that have got 10x that.

Hmmmmm decisions

Killing Floor is a great time-waster and tons of fun with friends. It's just one of those games you can pick up and play at anytime.

I love Killing Floor and usually buy the DLC just really to support the dev. I've never used any of the costumes or whatever. Thinking about buying a few copies as gifts since 85% off is the lowest it's ever been.

I had suggested my company pick up L4D to use as a tool for team building, would Killing Floor work as an alternative?

Most of the people I work with are computer literate, but not really gamers. Reviews made KF sound more casual so I was thinking it might have an easier learning curve.

Also, any thoughts of the DD? Its on my wishlist, but I know its been cheaper. At only $2.50, I could just pick it up and eat ramen instead of Subway today.

I'd say no. Its rougher around the edges and it has no story and a bit harder to figure out. It's just survival. L4D has story and I actually feel like it is easier. L4D just has more polish and will probably be better received by co workers and more casual gamers. Not to mention it looks better. Another thing is the Killing Floor's shopkeep yells out various sexual innuendos which most will find funny but some offensive.

All of that being said, its a great game but it is an indie game and its the only game in recent memory I had to manually open ports on my firewall to play with friends.

Forgot to mention. DD is a great way to spend $3. There is a ton of gameplay there to enjoy especially if you buy copies for some friends. It wouldn't be a bad game to play as a team building game.

Killing Floor is brutal. The higher difficulties require leveled up classes... for non-gamers you may be able to pull it off on Beginner and Normal but I'd say L4D is more accessible. On the other hand, KF allows up to 8 on a team, while L4D is limited to 4 on a team, but 4v4 in versus.

I actually was referring to the daily deal, Dinner Date, but now Im curious about the game youre referring to.

Ill post in the trade thread as well, but anyone have a Valve coupon higher than 33% Off that they would be willing to throw my way?

Oops. I was referring to Dungeon Defenders @ amazon which registers on Steam. I may have a 50% off valve I can check when I get home.

Just beat Fallout New Vegas. Any opinions on the DLC? Kinda sad I didn't have the funds to buy any of it when it was last on sale. Should I just buy FO3 and it's DLC instead? I'm kinda itching for more Fallout now.

Darn, KF complete is less than I paid for vanilla KF when it was on sale last, oh well. DLC is just skins, but they are a nice change of pace if you want to stand out a little. I usually play the steam punk doctor since I got Steampunk Pack 1 free with the summer ticket promotion. Check out the characters in each pack and if at least one seems appealing you might as well pick up KF complete as that is less than the cost of KF vanilla + 1 regularly priced DLC pack.

Killing Floor is not as fun in the beginning when all your perks are at zero as you damage you output is low and the guns remain high enough priced that it is several rounds before you can buy anything decent. You are also on the same team but you don't necessarily need to work together, a few people cover each point of entrance with the occasional need to focus fire on bigger targets, it's basically surviving in an arena. A team of individuals.

L4D(2) (especially in Versus) requires cooperation and watching out for your teammate as your team moves toward the goal. Also since there are no perks, your character is as strong as they will be right from the start, with everyone getting progressively better weapons as the campaign continues.

Yeah I would say L4D is actually the more team oriented game (even from the infected perspective). In KF (depending on difficulty and player skill) one person could hold out indefinitely on their own. The key is the incapacitation mechanic in L4D.
Probably gonna try to get Killing Floor, hoping to get a coupon to use on it if anyone has one they don't plan on using. :)
Same here. ;)
Looks like Dungeon defenders has some Valentines day DLC that's free for those who own the game. If the past is any guide, you'd better grab it while you can, in a week or so it'll switch to being paid DLC.

Thanks for this! I would totally have missed about the Valentine's DLC if I hadn't seen this! :)

Now that they have the Ultimate Edition, it may not go on sale as much. Fallout 3 with all the DLC will run you $20 right now. Skyrim is scratching my Fallout itch right now, so that may be another option for you, albeit a more expensive one.

But seriously, who in this thread is OK with paying full price for a game on Steam? Not me!

Would anyone recommend/give their thoughts on Dungeon Defenders and Magicka? They're on sale at Amazon and I'm wondering if they're worth getting to play 2 player co-op. Also decided to get Killing Floor because L4D2 is fun.

Does anyone know if I can gift the Killing Floor bundle to a friend so he can get all the DLC, then have him gift me the game back so I can gift it to someone else?
