CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Really? Graphically, the Wadjet Eye games seem light-years beyond the others you mentioned, so I didn't think they were AGS games. Frankly most of the AGS stuff I've seen on freeware sites looks like one guy cobbled it together in his basement in a few hours' time.

Any opinions on the new additions? I've had The Abbey on my "when-it's-cheap-enough" list for a while and $1 sounds like a good pricepoint on it to me, but I've never heard of most of the others (except Metal Dead, which just doesn't look terribly appealing).

Ha, speaking of CAGaming, I have a Touchpad running CM9 as well. At least I can make use of those Android indie bundles!

Hm. I have R.U.S.E. and I wanted to get HOMMVI and Driver:SF but Ubisoft just keeps making me hate them.

On a side note, shouldn't your avatar label be "CCO"? (Chief Coconut Officer)

I love my TouchPad too! I haven't done too much gaming on it (beyond Where's My Water, because that shit's addictive) but it's definitely great for surfing the internet from the couch.

I will probably get The Abbey but grumble about it because I am cheap and annoyed that I couldn't get it all at once to get a better package discount.

I'll also probably get Shadows on the Vatican. Adventure Gamers rated it so-so but I like adventure games and for a dollar it's cheap enough for me to take a chance on something that's probably not completely terrible.

I'm not sure how I feel about Metal Dead but Desura makes it slightly more appealing.

Deadly 30 actually is on Desura so I'm not sure why they aren't giving Desura keys for it.

I'm kind of tired of the whole zombie trend but it does look like it could be a fun retro side scrolling shooter.

Just wait until Faerie Soltaire 2 officially comes out for Android. Man that game is addicting and even more so on mobile. :p
You should try 18 Wheels of Steel. As far as I remember each delivery is just that a delivery where you start in a lot and have to hitch the trailer and then all you do is get on the road and drive to your destination while obeying every rule of traffic. And if you run a stop light/sign or fail to put your turn signals on then you get a fine and that is how they deduct the money that comes out of your pay/bank.

Actually I have tried 18 wheels of steel, although not the Steam version. I like the mechanics of Rig N Roll just not the racing aspect of it. 18 Wheels of Steel has this problem where is too much of a sim where yeah I have to watch my speed and stuff, which gets annoying because the truck handles way better in Rig N Roll.

Why am I comparing two trucking simulators, what is wrong with me?

Ah I look forward to installing and playing Rig n Roll now then. Handling is the one thing I hate about 18 Wheels of Steel as it sometimes seems it is imposable to make a turn or not to hit someone because of how the handling is.
Rig N Roll is definitely much better than 18 Wheels of Steel. The handling on the trucks is better, feels more like a racing game should. I agree that some of the implementation is annoying on some of the features, but when it comes to 18 wheeler games, it def. is top of the line. I would give it a go Sophita and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Heh, I thought about doing that but I still didn't get the build at least one of every building tiki even though AFAIK I have them all unlocked and have put them all on the same map.

Also, the ending sort of bugged out on me and I got the people dancing but not the cinematic ending. Apparently, other people have had that issue too when I did some searching around. I won't go into spoilers but I did find out what the actual cinematic ending was so I know the jist of it.

OTOH, just showing a bunch of people dancing on various beaches with the you won message sort of works better as the ending because the cinematic one is a cliffhanger with a hook for the planned sequel which won't ever be made.

Anyway, I can't believe how many hours I put into this game for $2.50. Definitely got my money's worth but agreed achievements to show off how insane dedicated I am would have been nice.
I didn't get the final cut scene either and had to look it up. I also had problems with the final tiki for all buildings. On a freeplay map I built everything twice and still nothing. Then I built all of the outdoor stuff as well and I think I got the tiki when my brawny gents finished the last of them. Then we had a major luau.

Does it have a free play mode like 18 wheeler? Also I just noticed the difference in size. 18 wheeler is like 350mb and Rig n Roll is 7.5gb that is a lot more rigging.

I like WebOS a lot. Is CM9 really worth the effort for a touchpad?

Also this DRM nonsense is what I get for supporting Ubisoft. My mistake. Not happening again.
I like WebOS a lot. Is CM9 really worth the effort for a touchpad?

Totally worth the effort. When I first got the TouchPad there was no Netflix app for WebOS (I haven't been keeping up on WebOS though, so that could have changed... I doubt it though :p) so that was kind of the main catalyst for me to actually root the touchpad to put Android on it. There are also so many more apps available in the Android market compared to WebOS's... including the Steam mobile app :D

Also, you do have the ability to dual boot. You can boot into either OS as you please, so it's not like CM9 completely deletes WebOS from your touchpad.

I found the CM9 install to be painless but my experience isn't shared by everyone. I did both mine and my wife's though and her whole thing was less than three hours from taking the TP out of the box & setting up webOS to having CM9 installed on it.

If you're happy with webOS, that's great. Mainly CM9 offered me more games, more web browser options and access to Netflix and Xfinity. If none of that sounds useful to you, don't worry about it.

You can boot into either OS so I figured there was nothing lost by trying CM9 and barely ever use webOS any longer. I have the 32 gb model so I had room to spare anyway.

I can say that those who have pirated Ubisoft games still end up with Uplay installed, they just bypass the checks in Uplay but still use it to launch the game. They're just as much at risk as normal buyers.

Does the Touchpad have the chops to play some of the fancier 3D Android apps?
I like WebOS a lot. Is CM9 really worth the effort for a touchpad?
Yes definitely. WebOS has a really nice UI but it's honestly a dead OS and the app selection just isn't there and probably never will be.

Android is pretty decent with Ice Cream Sandwich, though they still haven't gotten the camera working for it so if you want to Skype or otherwise use the camera do it in WebOS or install the Gingerbread based CM7.

I use my Touchpad way more since putting Android on it and play some humble games or whatever while watching TV.

Also this DRM nonsense is what I get for supporting Ubisoft. My mistake. Not happening again.

Agreed. They have proven time and time again that pirates get a better experience with their games while the paying customers get screwed over. They had outages back during the Steam sale where people who paid for their games couldn't access them and now this?

(Edit: Didn't realize pirates were at the security risk too but they still can access their games when there are outages, which are more frequent than they should be)

This 3rd party DRM on top of Steam is nonsense. Why do we need to be subjected to additional checks when Steam already does that? Steam is the biggest store for digital PC downloads so they need to get their shit together and yank their extra DRM crap out before they sell it there or GTFO.

Ultimately, if we continue to buy their games they will continue to do this stuff. The only message they get is money. Even then Ubisoft has their head so far up their asses they will probably say there is no market on the PC if their games stop selling rather than blame their unnecessary draconian DRM. They are absolutely convinced their DRM is a good thing and nothing it seems will convince them otherwise. :bomb:

Alright sounds like I got a project to do during RAW tonight. Hearing Dead Trigger went free on Android might make it worth trying this CM9 stuff

Oh with all this Android talk I forgot to mention that there's a slightly pricey but really good port of the DS 3D remake of Final Fantasy III that came out a little bit ago for Android.

There's also a 2D version of FFI (I believe a port of the IOS version) but I haven't tried that one yet.

Ugh, security hole now to plug on top of having to deal with their DRM nonsense.

Disabled my add-ons and removed their launcher for now. We'll see what comes of this, but hopefully, as I suspect, it's just a security hole that will mostly not be used for much.

Tried to stay light years away from Ubisoft's DRM, but picked up From Dust and Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands without realizing it.

Thankfully since I changed out my HD a couple of weeks ago I haven't installed and run any games that used Uplay. So glad I decided against playing POP forgotten sands yesterday though. If I had it would have installed Uplay and I would have been crazy paranoid now. Ubisoft really needs to get over their DRM though. It does nothing and is only giving them bad publicity.

Their DRM does nothing but harm the customer. Oh our servers are down, sorry you can't play the game. Oh our DRM has a security flaw, sorry. I mean seriously nothing good comes out of uPlay.
Does the Touchpad have the chops to play some of the fancier 3D Android apps?
For the most part, yes. Since it was designed to be a $600 tablet just last year, it has some fairly robust hardware. It's since been outpaced but games designed around Android phones and $300 (retail) tablets are well within its capabilities.

EA games won't run on it because they detect the tablet as being rooted and I guess EA has an issue with that. And there's a water physics game that requires a Nexus 7 tablet but that's just one clearly marked game.
Ha, speaking of CAGaming, I have a Touchpad running CM9 as well. At least I can make use of those Android indie bundles!
I also have a touchpad running CM9. I only use it for casual gaming during long trips (when I'm not the one driving).

Wow, the "V4" thread has filled up quite quickly, I'm sure a very large portion of it being with the summer sale chat; but this is my first post up here. Figured I'd avoid it during the summer sale since it'd be hard to keep up with all the convo and just haven't been on the interwebz much since then. I pulled in a pretty nice haul during the summer sale, got 62 games total along with a lot of dlc for some of the games. Overall I'd say I made out pretty well - only bought games that were daily deals, flash sales or community choice sales up until the last 12 hours where I bought a few that were 75%+ the whole time and a few older ones (like 3+ years on Steam) where I checked the price history and they were the lowest they had been. Only one I got kinda screwed was on Saints Row: The Third, I bought the franchise pack at 75% off earlier in the sale and then in one of the final flash sales, while the game itself was 75% off, the franchise pack was some odd % like 87% off, which would have saved me $11.70...don't know if it was an error or what but I guess you win some, you lose some.

Of course I haven't played a single flippin game I got yet. I think I mentioned this before; but I'm kinda waiting until my bday, which is coming up soon cuz my parents had mentioned getting me a new desktop computer and hopefully if I ask them, they'll just give me the money to build my own since I know exactly what I want and can get it for a fairly good price. If I get that rig put together, it will be dedicated to gaming and I should be able to max out every current game with ease and I figure it'll be good to max out most games for at least 6 months or so and will be easily upgradeable. Honestly, I could easily max out most of my current games on my laptop so I suppose I could go ahead and play some of them...but I love that anticipation factor.

So, anybody know anything good? :)

Yeah pretty much everything I have run on it does okay, even some fancier stuff like GTA or the Desert Winds demo (which looks awesome and hopefully turns into a full game someday).

As you said, EA games tend to have issues but sometimes there is a work around and you can install the data on another Android device like a phone and then copy it over to the Touchpad. Some of the EA stuff still hadn't been updated for ICS though last time I checked because EA is lazy and half asses their Android releases without giving much support afterwards.

Also Gameloft stuff is a pain in the ass and most can be made to work but you have to jump through a bunch of hoops. That's not the Touchpad's fault though that's Gameloft. Even newer devices with better hardware like the Transformer Prime have issues with Gameloft games. Basically if you aren't on their small mostly Samsung based list of approved devices they will block you from installing even though the actual game may still work on most devices.

Outside of that though pretty much every non EA or Gameloft game I have tried on the Touchpad with CM7 and CM9 runs without issue.
I like WebOS a lot. Is CM9 really worth the effort for a touchpad?
I found the conversion painless. I also loved WebOS, but haven't booted backing into it since installing IceCreamSandwich. Interestingly, I switched it to android because the WebOS browser didn't support the ampersand character in urls, and I couldn't jump to "last read" item in this forum.

So it was CAG that got me to switch to android :D

I've played Farie Alchemy on it a bit, and minecraft.

The camera still doesn't work, but they got the microphone working in the last month or two.
Thanks for the information. I can't say I didn't see this coming. To add insult to injury all the DRM and BS they install doesn't even slow hackers down.

:whistle2:$ Hackers like a challenge.
Maybe Ubisoft can use their own backdoor to make their games run faster and better. :bouncy:

Edit: A damn monkey just shot out of my ass. OUCH!

Why am I not surprised that this forum would have multiple people running Android on $99 or $149 fire sale tablets?:applause:
Supposedly Ubisoft already fixed the UPlay exploit if you patch UPlay.
What I want to know is how long the flaw went unfixed for. I mean yeah we might of got lucky this time but someday who knows. Something like this could go under the radar next time and bite unsuspecting consumers in the ass.

Thats only because of anyone can make a game with AGS; the base itself is AMAZING for making adventure games.
EA games won't run on it because they detect the tablet as being rooted and I guess EA has an issue with that. And there's a water physics game that requires a Nexus 7 tablet but that's just one clearly marked game.
Really? I've never had a problem with Dead Space or Mass Effect on my rooted phone....maybe you mean they have a problem with custom roms?

Could be. I only know what little I've read on it. All I really needed to take away from it was "Don't bother buying EA games for your TP running CM9" so I might have lost the details.

didn't realize it was the same backwards and forwards, just thought you forgot to take your meds. :bouncy:

The BEST deal on Orcs Must Die 2 is to wait until it drops to $3.74 like the predecessor. Dropping $4 on the first only to drop $12 on a sequel because you can't wait is falling into a BIG CAG trap.
What I want to know is how long the flaw went unfixed for. I mean yeah we might of got lucky this time but someday who knows. Something like this could go under the radar next time and bite unsuspecting consumers in the ass.
Unfortunately they'll never release that information to us.

Some of us really liked the first and want to play the game on release date, no shame in that. However, gamersgate has the best preorder deal if you can find someone with the IGN discount. $9.56 for each copy (from the 2 pack deal), plus $1.21 back in blue coins. My interest in Orcs Must Die 2 is thanks to Draekon, who gifted me OMD1, otherwise I probably would've never bought it lol.
Supposedly Ubisoft already fixed the UPlay exploit if you patch UPlay.
Quickest way to see if the exploit is on your machine is to run the link that was shown here. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4311264

This is the link: It should open Uplay then force Calculator to open if the exploit is on your machine it seems.

What site do you use to get that Steam signature you guys are using?
I use http://alabasterslim.com/ was the first one I found when doing a google search. Not sure if there is a better one or not.
