CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I usually max out the settings before I start a game. But for whatever reason I ignored the last number in the resolution, it was something X something X 16, totally missed the 16 lol.

Really? I've never had a problem with Dead Space or Mass Effect on my rooted phone....maybe you mean they have a problem with custom roms?
I read the specifics on it once but I forget the details. I don't know that's exactly just the rooted part, it may be the way the device identifies itself too but the long and the short of it is EA Android games will not download the data on the HP Touchpad running CM7 or CM9. Like I mentioned before though there is a work around where you can download the data on another Android device and copy it over to the Touchpad.
I use http://alabasterslim.com/ was the first one I found when doing a google search. Not sure if there is a better one or not.
There are other ones that give more information, but this one is the most visually appealing to me. No offense to anyone using those Raptr or some of those other ones but I find them ugly. What can I say? I like pretty pictures. :p
Some of us really liked the first and want to play the game on release date, no shame in that. However, gamersgate has the best preorder deal if you can find someone with the IGN discount. $9.56 for each copy (from the 2 pack deal), plus $1.21 back in blue coins. My interest in Orcs Must Die 2 is thanks to Draekon, who gifted me OMD1, otherwise I probably would've never bought it lol.
I really want to play the first one, from all the good things I heard about it. I was able to pick it up during the sale. Unfortunately, it's in the backlog since I really want to start out with other games beforehand. It kind of gives me comfort (and discomfort) knowing that by the time I get around to playing the first one, then have interest in playing the second, the sequel will be at an acceptable price.
I picked up a two-pack of Orcs Must Die 2. My friend didn't want the other copy. Crap.
Why can't I install OMD2?!

Edit: Nevermind. Had to restart Steam. The fun train is coming! I played the demo yesterday and couldn't believe I hadn't played the first one yet. I skipped the first and I'm going to start with the second.

Based on his most infamous quote, I believe he'd murder them if the option were available.

By the way, Motoki, I totally have a Coconut Queen question. I need 3 gems to complete the last upgrade, but I've done all the levels. (I still have two Tiki's to obtain, but I wager those, especially the 100 Million Dollars one, can be grabbed through Freeplay.) How does one acquire three more gems?

Same here. I got the first Trine on a sale and loved it. When Trine 2 was up for pre-order, I really wanted to get it right away and support the developers. Sometimes I make exceptions to my CAGness.

Some of those tikis, like the money one, are way easier to get on Freeplay, yes.

If you've done every single level open to you I don't think you can get more gems since I don't believe you get any for free play.

On the plus side though, maybe if you don't play through all those side areas you will discover the elusive, mysterious order you need to play the game in to get the cinematic ending that none of the rest of us are apparently getting.
They added Shadows on the Vatican and Metal Dead today. The other two are supposed to be added tomorrow so 4 late additions total but only one Desura and none are Steam. And yes it sucks for the early adopters. Next time around I will definitely wait until the last day to buy a Groupees bundle so I think they just shot themselves in the foot.

I've been keeping tabs on it every so often but honestly I don't have much hope for anything any time soon. It sounds like the original person he got to work on his site kept making every excuse under the sun while the one(s) now keeps saying 'Oh we're making progress!'. Right.

To me it's like the Indie Gala points. It might happen someday but honestly I'm not going to hold my breath.

Anyway I think most people who got infinity bundle keys were probably just people who bought FS1 cheap at some point. Hopefully not too many people put out for the Infinity Bundle on its own.

As for me, I got in when he did the alpha funding for FS2 prior to the infinity bundle. Forget how much I paid but it was nothing too crazy but not super cheap either. I think like $7-$8? He did give access to alpha builds of FS2 though, including an Android version which I've played quite a bit on my HP Touchpad so I can't complain too much. Still, getting the full on site someday would be nice.

There's some chatter about it here:

(WARNING Spoilers so don't look if you haven't finished Coconut Queen and don't want to be spoiled)

http://www.gamezebo.com/games/coconut-queen/forums/ending

But basically the jist is
There's a cinema scene where Liz gets through to the other side of the island and finds all the native women there. There's a temple with a man in it and the women are waiting on him there. He's basically the Coconut King.

I found an actual image of it too but now I can't remember where the hell I found it at. I'll keep looking.

*Edit: Still can't find the damned image, but there's a guy who talks about it at Big Fish who basically thinks the culript is saving Kaba-Lui for last and said on his first play through he did it first then did the two optional areas and did get the cinematic.

Well it looks like I'm going to be heading back to the island of Lui Lui to get this secret elusive ending some time in the near future.
Well it looks like I'm going to be heading back to the island of Lui Lui to get this secret elusive ending some time in the near future.
I wonder if there's a way to get around it. Like if there's just some video file you can play or something.

If not I'll probably try myself to plough through again really quickly upgrading the gents with extra brawn right away and ignoring the side paths and see if I get it. If I do I'll try and youtube it. :p

The game is fairly "pick up and play" style and not anything complicated like Sins Of A Solar Empire or the X series. Best I can describe it is as Homeworld "lite" and is in the spirit of short play session like Atom Zombie Smasher.

Well, when I finished the final area, I did get a scene.
It shows the Coconut Queen encountering a mansion, presumably owned by Manu's father. He is quite surprised to see Liz. ABRUPT END.

I'm quite fine if 100% on gems is impossible; I got all the upgrades I really wanted. However, I am missing a building; It's still locked. How does one obtain this last structure? (I believe I need it for the other Tiki.)

EDIT: Whoa, it seems I did get the "elusive ending." I admit, I didn't unlock the other two areas until after I completed the main ones. In fact, I used my last gems to get both; Had I wasted those gems on the remaining upgrades, I would not have been able to play them during that playthrough.
I picked up a two-pack of Orcs Must Die 2. My friend didn't want the other copy. Crap.
I totally would like to play OMD!2 but as noted earlier, paying like $3.75 for the first one I feel as though it would be wrong of me to buy it anytime before it goes on sale for at most $7.50 or less.
Quickest way to see if the exploit is on your machine is to run the link that was shown here. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4311264

Yep, saw that link from the Rock Paper Scissors URL. However I'm at work remoted into my home computer and I can't run any visually intensive stuff while doing that (IE Try and update UPlay), so seeing if it's fixed isn't something I can personally do. Just relay information I've heard.

And while that code is safe to run (the path is encrypted in Base64), I would be more hesitant about running that kind of thing without knowing more about what the code variables actually do.

I bought this game on the xbox (still in backlog for a long time) ONLY because of this screenshot

I got the cinematic ending, and I did the all the bonus levels first. So I don't think that's it.

The order I went was Aloha Cove, Coconut Queen Bay, unlocked Blue Moon Lagoon, upgraded a bunch of stuff, did Dun-Dah Beach, did one level of Kaba-Lui Park, did all of Blue Moon Lagoon, finished Kaba-Lui Park while unlocking Yippi-Kai-Yeh Temple, finished Yippi-Kai-Yeh Temple. Upon finishing Yippi-Kai-Yeh Temple, got the ending and dancing.

Yeah you got the super sekrit squirrel only get it if you rushed to the end and didn't do the side stuff first apparently ending. *jealous*

Anyway, not sure which building you are missing. The orchid house maybe? Or the day care? Or Aquarium?

The Aquarium you get by catching a bunch of crabs and such on Dun Dah beach in free play I believe. The Daycare you need 600 tourists in free play I believe in Coconut Queen Bay. The Orchid house you get by placing a bunch of green houses in one of the the scenarios for Kaba Lui (sp?) the last area. You do need to spend a gem to buy the greenhouse though.

Oh and I finally found that screenshot for the ending cinema that I came across previously.

Don't click the link if you don't want to be spoiled for Coconut Queen :p

Since I finished it last night I can confirm that this is all correct. For the Orchid house I'd built 10 greenhouses near the start of Kaba Lui freeplay and eventually, after continuing to build and attract tourists, I got a message that they wanted more greenhouses. I salvaged them all, rebuilt the 10, and was given the orchid house blueprints immediately.

Thanks for the reply, Motoki. Humorously enough, the last building, the Day Care Center, became available midway through my Freeplay experience. Thus, I could get my last two Tiki's, the Variety Park and Oprah ones, in one Freeplay session.

Freeplay is actually quite amusing, since it still has elements like CoCoCo buildings going on sale and other single-player events. (In other words, the game's not completely dead because it's in Freeplay Mode.)

By the way, Motoki, did you, by any chance, notice anything "odd" about the Little, Big, and Really Big Kahuna Tiki's? I mean, like, really unsettling?

Wow, Wanderlust: Rebirth have continually disappoint me (however, not really sure if this the game's fault). Just ran Malwarebytes and it picked up 39dll.dll as a 'pup.hack.tools.ddos' in wanderlust folder. I haven't been browsing any shady sites, nor downloaded anything unfamiliar. Did anyone else get this?

*edit* nvm, initial research seems to be a false positive.

Yea I read that a second after posting, however, going to malwarebytes site
http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=111252
and this statement:

"Hi,

This is no False positive though. We don't detect it as a virus, but as HackTool.DDoS.
As you already said; it uses advanced netcode >> in this case, has DDoS functionality. This file was bundled with backdoors we analysed, that's why we won't remove detection because nothing much legitimate about DDoS functionality tools anyway. However, in this case, we can adjust detection as PUP.HackTool.DDoS, but we won't remove detection."

I don't know much about hacks, back doors, etc, but doesn't this mean this file can be exploited to be used as a backdoor? I know the guy on reflect games says it shouldn't, but the other dude (lol) from malwarebytes forum listed it as a backdoor.

Well given how long UPlay was around before word got out it could be used for malicious backdoor functionality it wouldn't shock me.

Just completely anecdotally based on all the issues I've read about Wanderlust I tend to side with the Malware Bytes guy.

Plus the Wanderlust dev's argument was basically 'You don't think Steam would approve a game with malicious code'. Uplay would seem to indicate otherwise. Anyway, it's not really Valve's job to go over every byte with a fine tooth comb.

Neve mind, in researching it a bit more I'm going to have to go with Malwarebytes overreacting and/or not looking at the specific situation this file is being used in.

Uplay has a security hole. That's hardly even in the same ballpark as "malicious code." It is reasonable to expect Steam to go over data even a popular free software like Malwarebytes picks up.

Okay doing a little more searching around on the 39dll.dll I'm going to have to say that calling it malicious code seems a bit extreme though given the way it works, I could conceive of someone potentially using it for malicious purposes maybe. That goes for a lot of things though and that isn't the same thing as malicious code.

If Malwarebytes has actual data of that specific dll file being used for DDOS purposes I would be curious to see it.

Note that I never thought the Wanderlust guys were doing anything malicious. While I do expect (hope) that Valve does a simple virus scan, a developer stating 'You don't think they would approve something malicious' somehow doesn't instill me with confidence either. There are probably better ways they could have put that but they are probably right that it shouldn't cause issues.

Some further links I found on the DLL indicate no reported incidents of it found to be a threat

And a long tutorial explaining what it is and how it works

TL;DR in researching it a bit more I think Malwarebytes is overreacting.

*Edit oh and lastly Google's security expert called Uplay a "root-kit" which is considered malware aka malicious code so no it wasn't just a security hole at least according to the person who discovered it.

See Forbes http://www.forbes.com/sites/adriank...lay-drm-is-a-rootkit-and-poses-security-risk/

*Edit of Edit: Okay now RPS are saying it's not a Rootkit it's a browser exploit so I give up. Tastes Great! No Less Filling! Malware! No Security hole! Apparently people can't make up their minds. At any rate I don't think Uplay is a minor issue.

I'd cough it up to poor programming standards/knowledge on the developers part. I doubt it's anything more than a false positive as well.
