CAGiversary!
Feedback

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V4! You can find the V1 thread (Nov 2010-July 2011) here, V2 thread (July 2011 - Feb 2012) here, and V3 thread (Feb-July 2012) here. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 8/9
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I'd rather run Wolf 3D w/ a Source Port like NewWolf.

So Titan Quest is the D2 clone that everyone gushes about as being really fantastic, right?

If I like that genre at all I should probably pick it up?

Yes and Yes

Titan Quest is basically a much-prettier looking Diablo II w/ less class limitations and a Greek Mythology setting.
Does that sound good to you? ;)

Yeah, that and Torchlight.

Yes!!!

Anybody into Diablo clones and that ARPG genre...
I highly recommend Torchlight and TQ: Gold.
Oh geeze, launchFAIL

That's a perfect example of why you need to browse the Steam forums before biting on some unknown entity.

A few disgruntled people is normal but when you see an angry mob with pitchforks that's a problem.

A shame because I kind of wanted this game, though I'm not sure that I $15 wanted it.

Also, when will publishers learn with the unwanted, unnecessary forced on 3rd party DRM? I'd say they'd learn when we stop buying but the truth is they'd probably just assume there is no PC market.
Never.

All the LAZY publisher will do is will take the regular version of the game...and then ADDITIONALLY wrap the Steam DRM on top of it (since Steam is required on all Steam-versions of games, for the most part). It's the dev's and/or pub's just being LAZY.

Even more so true with the LAZY factor, especially if the game's multi-platformed to the X360. Since G4WL and XBL are similar, they (Dev's and pub's) might just use G4WL b/c they don't have to do much to implement any Net-code into the game to get the Windows version done. Going the LAZY route.

This is why I really don't like buying Steam-versions of games that require Non-Steam 3rd party stuff - i.e. like say G4WL; Rockstar Social Club; Tages; etc. It's all about getting the least DRM layers for me, if possible - the less layers, less crap to deal with and other less issues that can occur.

I'd rather a PC game just be straight-up Steamworks ONLY, to be honest.
G4WL is garbage. If only Microsoft would overhaul the thing - though, I think we have a better chance of pigs flying.
Well, I used to have Gametap a long time ago. They had a deal if you and a friend paid for a year or something it was 30 bucks. me and my buddy did it for one or two years. NEVER USED IT. lol. well not anywhere near often enough to make it worth it. Was always lured by the sales, or the games other people were playing, etc. For a while gametap had a free service but it might be gone.

I would say if you are going to be dedicated to play them then it will be worth it. Otherwise you will just be paying to have access to something but you will never use it.

FYI, Gamersgate VOID has Airport Control Simulator for free play if you are looking to scratch an itch.
That sounds like me and Netflix. I keep paying but I honestly never use the damned thing anymore.

If they still had the buy one get one deal on Gametap that came out to $30 a person I'd probably go for that for a year, but I don't think I can go for the $80 'special' they are having right now.

I'm kind of tempted to pay the $10 monthly fee, play Chains of Satinav and try out some of those ridiculous simulators and then cancel at the end of the month, but I'm not sure it's worth all the hassle.

Right, Airport Control Simulator it is then. :lol:

Anyone else win a Darksiders key from the game informer giveaway? Supposedly it's Steam redeemable after you jump through some hoops after redeeming it first on Impulse. It's not even letting me redeem it Impulse at the moment and I was wondering if anyone else was having issues with it.

I realized I can identify some CAG's by reading their post before seeing their handle. It's fun.

Posts about DRM and PC ports, yep. Posts railing against indie games, yep. Posts full of SHAQ-FUs, yep. Posts about little known casual games, yep. Who would you say these are? Edit: Serious posts about simulators, yep!

Also, I wish I used the Steam forums more because I have the best username, draconianDRM.

Damn misleading email subject made me think I had won Darksiders 2, once I actually read the email I'm like oh its Darksiders 1. Anyways, yah I'm having trouble redeeming it on Impulse/GameStop as well. I figure the site is just getting hit too hard and causing issues.

Well that game is Steamworks so it requires Steam no matter what once you get the Impulse shenanigans figured out.

Hell, even if you buy it at Origin it still requires Steam.

Dumb question but did anyone try just throwing that Gameinformer Darksiders code straight into Steam? I would but I already own it anyway.

It looks formatted like a Steam key to me though.

I just tried it right now and it wouldn't work on Steam. I guess I have to wait for the stupid site to fix itself so I can redeem the code, THEN get a key for the steam version. Damn you first world problems.

Demo out for my main game Kung Fu Strike, although the last couple of levels are reaching bullcrap levels of difficulty. Still love it though.

Grimrock seems... mediocre. It's not bad but there's nothing here to hook me APART from nostalgia, and I've been playing all the id Doom/Wolfenstein RPGs so it isn't like the grid based first person RPG is something I haven't seen in a while.

As someone who's been sexually harassed, not by just one person, but an entire group who thought they were allowed to do so themselves because our boss engaged and encouraged them too, I can understand why she forfeited the game rather than take it. I want to say she should have stuck it out, if not for her than for the other girls who would have looked up to her as inspiration to carry through. But as someone who's been on the receiving end. i totally get it, and would never ask anyone to go through that for any reason. At the end of it all, noone should ever feel as if they should HAVE to make that choice to begin with.
The article is a little mis-guided. It's not because gaming is a "boys club". It's because people are stupid. And given any situation where the authority in charge of protecting everyone they are responsible for (the coach in this instance) engages in the very same behavior, it magnifies the situation many times over.

Yes!!!

Expansion pack Immortal Throne is in Gold Ed.
NEW Underworld area adds like 10+ hours of content; new features and other stuff.
EASILY worth the extra buck and some cents or so.

EDIT:
Immortal Throne has a 80 on Metacritic.
GO GOLD!!!

Hmm, this down time with Steamgifts timed after recent events makes me think a couple of things.

Are we really sure there's not some revenge of disgruntled mods DoS shenanigans going on that's being covered up? *puts on tinfoil hat*

Even if not, perhaps it's not a good idea for one guy and nobody else to run a site since things can go south while he is sleeping or otherwise AFK.

It's only $3.99 on Gamersgate for the gold edition right now for the non-Steam version. Only $.25 more than the standard edition. :)
It anyone loved Titan Quest and wants more, or at least more from that same company should check out Grim Dawn. Aye. I watched that all of the Grim Dawn kickstarter, and those guys seem really dedicated to making a new Titan Quest type game. It's the project lead from Titan Quest and a few of the old programmers from Titan Quest. I believe you can still join in as a slacker backer/pre-order for $15, iirc.

Well, it's a fresh take on an old-school genre (beat-em up) that's very pretty but totally unpretentious. That seems like something RollingSkull would be into.
hey, what happened to Mr DRMFree? :p

I most definitely PREFER DRM-FREE.

Steam is DRM; and so is (obviously) Securom.

I have TQ + IT from retail w/ disc-checks. Bought them years ago.

Also, life itself is Internet always-on DRM.
Eventually, our activation servers get pulled...

I already have TQ Gold but in disc form. I am semi considering getting it on Steam because after being staunchly anti-digital for years, over the past 3 years i have honestly seen the value that the Steam service adds. After having one pc totally shit the bed it was nice to have a place that had damn near all my games right there in one place to be able to re-download from anytime i felt like doing so. Yes, I know that if I have the disc for said games I can just re-install them anytime I wish as well, but sometimes, well, lets face it. Shit gets lost and you can not remember for the life of you where the hell disc 2 is.....

I think I'll still bite the extra dollar to have it on Steam. If it isn't Steam or GoG I forget what games I own too easily. I don't keep them all installed at once.

I just install them into certain folders, based on service-name and/or where I bought them.
I force them where I want them to go, in most cases.

i.e. Steam games go into default Steam folder (obviously);
GOG games go in Program Files (x86)\GOG games;
Origin games go in Program Files (x86)\Origin games;
G4WL games go in Program Files (x86)\G4WL games;
GMG games go in Program Files (x86)\GMG games;
Gamersgate games go in Program Files (x86)\Gamersgate games;
Retail-disc games (not using a service) go in Program Files (x86)\Retail games;
etc etc.

My brain cells are too exhausted from trying to understand how the indie gala 20 pack happy hour works :drool: to contemplate something as heavy as that right now. However I will say that I hope no one's life DRM is UPlay otherwise you may be prone to lots of down time and you better watch your back door. :booty:

Same, except that I've gotten to the point where I forget about GOG stuff now even. I think Desura has become my default backup for non-Steam stuff just because so many indie bundles have Desura games in them.

At this point I find myself even rebuying stuff I already own from GOG or GG just to have them on Steam now. #-o

I'm saying I don't keep it all installed. I built my computer before coming to college, at the time using a smattering of hard drives that I've filled up with other sorts of hoarding along with games. That was four years ago and I still don't have the money or sense to grab a TB drive and toss it in to dedicate to my game collection. Steam and GoG are two services with easy to keep track of libraries for when games are not installed.

But that is an admirable system of organization.
Why do you do that? I get the OCD part, but is there any practical application?
So I know where the heck most of my games are, if I need to find them.
Especially if I have to use the game folder for mods; putting save games in that folder; finding saves games; or what have you.
Much easier to also know what version I have, too.
Sometimes, different versions use different patches or have different DRM's - especially in the OLD days and w/ OLDER games.

Nothing is more annoying than trying to figure out where a game is put by default, if you don't change it. Sometimes, it's put in the weirdest place.
Example -> Vampire: Bloodlines, which I own from Retail.
Originally, I think it actually goes by default into Program files (x86)\Activision\Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines.
I don't always remember where the games go by default.
Much easier for me that I toss it in Program files (x86)\Retail\VTMBL-WespBasic.
Yes, sometimes, I'll even note if I'm using a mod in the folder if I want certain versions in certain folders, too.

I won one as well but can't redeem it. I went on the gamestop forums and everyone who won cannot activate their code.
