Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Has anyone played either Anna or Post Mortem and have an opinion to share? Reviews aren't all that kind to either (Anna reviewed much worse though) and they both seem to have their share of issues. However maybe there's fun underneath the rough edges or the desire to watch a train crashing in slow motion.
I also wanted to know if those games are the type of bad where you can enjoy how bad they are? I can get into that sometimes. Some games are just plain bad where its bad and boring.

So I won a copy of Dota2, added to library, and "played" for 20 minutes. Activated the hide games option in steamgifts and I went from 801 giveaways to 275.

I used the greasemonkey add on to put DOTA 2 on ignore. So it cuts back on it, only thing is the add on is super sluggish when the site is slow.

Yeah, I don't use steamgifts enough to have the desire to install add on. Trying to win Dota2 and use their new hide games feature was a spur of the moment thing. I actually only entered one giveaway to win it, so it was pretty painless.

Maybe I should take that approach, just win it and ignore. I have no clue what that game is like/about.
Entering giveaways for games you don't want seems rather asinine to me.
Yet most people here own hundreds of games they have no interest in anyway. I may give it a shot to see what the fuss is about.

Sure, but in this case you're actually taking away the chance of someone who wants to play the game. When you buy a game you won't play, you're not affecting anyone else.

That person will have another chance to win DOTA 2.

Probably about 4000 chances in the next several days. All of which they have a good probability of winning.

I apologize to the 12 other people that I took the opportunity from to win dota2. Actually 11 since it was for 2 copies, so someone still took it home. Even though I may play it, I'm 100% sure that the leech... I mean fine, outstanding gamers on steamgifts would have played it way more than me.

It sounds like there's going to be another Humble Android Bundle soon as leaked here.
http://www.joystiq.com/2012/10/25/waking-mars-travels-to-alien-lands-of-pc-mac-linux-android-ne/
Waking Mars, the iOS game that we thought was out of this world, is coming to PC, Mac, Linux and Android on November 6, via the Humble Android Bundle and the Humble store on the game's own website. This version of Waking Mars has been revamped with full voice acting and higher resolution, along with keyboard and mouse support.

Right now there are 417 (some of them multiple copies) giveaways of Dota 2 running. The one with the highest number of entries has 107. I'm pretty sure anyone who wants Dota 2 will be getting a copy no matter how many of us enter.

No point in owning L4D1, just get L4D2. As far as thoughts... well, it's L4D. Tons o' videos on YouTube and whatnot. Only thing I'd add is the community is fairly atrocious so it helps to have friends who play.

Why's that?

Almost all of (or maybe all now) the original campaigns have been ported over to the second game. That said, the first game has much more of a horror feel to it in comparison to the second which feels more actiony and fast paced. The game mechanics are slightly different as well (cooldown timer on melee in the second) and there are a few fan maps that aren't compatible with L4D2. For the extra $2.50, it's probably worth it if any of those things interest you.

Probably not a big enough deal to me, I never got the chance to even play L4D.

See I wouldn't even think about L4D2 having everything L4D had, appreciate the info fellas.

Edit: Gone!

I believe Steam gave out a bunch of gift copies to people that already had it to pass on to friends.

The beta or the actual game?
I think you're thing of Missing: Since January. That game was fascinating because of having to research the internet for clues and getting emails but yeah, even when the game launched it didn't work that well. Awesome atmosphere and I enjoyed it when it worked. Post Mortem is the first game in the McPherson Trilogy with Still Life 1 and 2 coming afterwards.
Yeah, you're right. I read your response and instantly the wanted poster from the box Missing:Since January popped in my head. I've played Still Life 1 and 2, not sure I've played Post Mortem.
Earlier I had thought the Groupees bundle would have this
Yeah, you are definitely thinking Missing: Since January and maybe even the follow up. I have both but never finished them. Wonder if they will still work now? I would think they would not sell them if they didn't work.
Yeah, and this was the look I gave when I realized I was wrong once again.

I'm so in for this bundle, 2 games from my wishlist.
it may be crappy, but it's mine
lol... I actually want to try that game out, but I'll wait until it's at least 0% off.
Yeah, I thought Origin had high prices.

so, did anyone buy anything from getgamesgo?

i kinda want rayman origins at 7.49, but for DRM it just says "activation code"... if it's UPlay i'm good on that

Something I've been kind of curious about.

I got Dungeon Defenders awhile back for cheap, messed around in it for a half-dozen hours, thought it was neat, but never took it online or anything.

Seeing the constant content updates and DLC rolling out for that game, is there, like, a big player base?

Are there people that are really into that game? Or do they just add content because they aren't working on anything else and people pick it up on occasion thinking they're going to get really into Dungeon Defenders one day?

It's been a couple of months, but I've never had an issue getting into a game with players close enough to my level to have fun.

The peak player count today was about 3,000 and there are 1,400 right now. Of course not all of them are in matchmaking.
That's why it's appropriate to tell the friends you don't like.
That was exactly what I was thinking when I read the tweet
