Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I did see a report that people were seen leaving that building carrying a bunch of boxes full of all their stuff.
*edit: Okay a found a source with a report that reporters were there

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/17/source-onlive-ceo-showed-no-remorse-when-announcing-layoffs/

Following the meeting, management told laid-off staff to pack their belongings, return any key cards, and exit the building by 4pm today. When reporters were spotted photographing the building, management requested laid-off employees to exit through the garage and not the front door.

Damn, they got fired and can't even walk out the front door.

Thanks. I'm tempted to go there to take proper pictures to share. It's a fairly small building on a corner. There's no way you can give the slip to a lone reporter standing on the corner.
Has anyone ever played XIII?

The art style is very Borderlandsey (which I love). The plot sounds intriguing and that seems like a good price. GOG's reviews are very positive, but I'm wondering if any of y'all can recommend it?
PS2 backlog. Picked it up at Fry's for $0.90 a few years back. /iWin =p
User reviews are good enough for $3, 4.5 stars on GoG -- typical (I'm always wary of anything that gets 4 stars or less on GoG given how inflated their user reviews are).

So do I, but it's much better to control it per application/program than system wide. Otherwise I end up having to adjust my sound all the damned time whereas I have it at a sweet spot for most of my applications.

/agree I am just more tired of blocky artifacts. (youtube 360p drives me up the wall from the blocky artifacts all the time, at least youtube 480p only gets blocky in faster motion scenes). When I'm being shown a trailer for a game I'm considering buying, make it look good.
Hmm, wonder if Valve was lurking and saw that amazing two keys for $4 deal from THQ a little bit ago and figured they'd half ass phone in the dotd with 75% off which still sounds good on this but we all know better here. :p

It seems like a lot of their dotds are indie bundle games or otherwise games that have been better deals previously elsewhere.
I always have a feeling that someone working in valve is lurking in this thread.

I loved it when it first came out. Been thinking about playing it again at some point, but I am unsure whether or no it will "hold-up" to my memories of it or feel dated.

XIII looked like there could be a sequel as the game was fun, Borders is a completely different game with a great art style.

XIII will not feel dated even if you play it today and it is still very fun due to the art style in the game.

Highly recommended, haven't played it in years but it was awesome, and the visuals were very unique.

Yes!

XIII is one of my favorite shooters from back in the day. I had it for Gamecube originally and I've since re-copped it from GOG when it was on sale.

The PC version runs at a higher resolution than the consoles but there's no controller support. The campaign is ok, yet I couldn't take my attention off of multiplayer long enough to finish it. There's multiplayer against bots and that's abnormally amusing to me -- set them to hard and they're pretty fierce.

I disagree. I played through this one just a few months ago and it's very forgettable. XIII and Borderlands both have that cel-shaded style but XIII goes a bit further and has comic-book-style sound effects, where BOOM! and POW! appear on screen. It gets old quickly. Also, the voice-acting is poor, even though you've got Adam West, David Duchovny, and Eve (in that tired sassy black female trope). I understand there's a comic, from which the game is derived, so maybe fans of that would enjoy it, but I'd never replay it. There are better FPSs out there worth playing. From the same era, try No One Lives Forever (1 and 2). Stylish and hilarious.
Well, it says a Genuine CD key right there in the description, so it must be legit.
I am downloading sleeping dogs on steam now. They have a sleeping dog deluxe for around 33. I was debating on the green mans game version for 36. I watched a youtube vid and the guy said it was on sale at both. I was nervous at first but the reviews on the web seem good and legit.

Buying keys from an unauthorized retailer is too sketchy for me. All those keys are purchased from Russia at fractions of the U.S. cost. It's unlikely that your account deactivated because of this. However, it's much more likely that they'll remove the game from your account. There are some instances on the forums where this has happened. Valve's SSA is serious business and not to be fucked with.

I feel like you guys should not worry about picking up neither Sleeping Dogs nor Darksiders II at a cheap price. Already they are available legitimately for extremely slashed prices.

Then just look at the original Darksiders pricing record. It dropped in price quite quickly and then went drastically further the past few months. I feel as though if you wait to pick either up until say, the Winter Sale, you will be spending $30 MAX for both.

With that said, no I would not buy from cdkeyhouse as others have stated.

How do you know if it is a geniune retailer. I thought they had a deal or something with steam sort of like amazon when they sell steam products. I was kinda thrown off by all the positive reviews. Should I let steam know?

Darksiders I agree but that sleeping dogs might be worth 25.00 The gameplay vids look really nice.

Green Man Gaming, Amazon Digital Downloads, Get Games, Gamefly.com (Direct2Drive), GamersGate, Gamestop (Impulse). I think that's all of them. Russian key resellers definitely do not have a deal with Valve. If you try to mentioned any of them on the Steam Forums, it instantly becomes redacted into .

Right THQ and Square Eidos stuff drops in price pretty fast on the PC side. I think Amazon had Darkness II half off within a couple of weeks or so of release. Honestly if you don't want to pay close to retail you can get these games from official reputable sources for at or cheaper than those scheistery CD key site prices if you just have a little patience.

In general, PC digital downloads tend to drop in price much faster than console versions of the same games.

There a couple other really obscure ones. Gametap sells some Steam keys and I know Best Buy digital downloads does as well but they hardly ever do anything close to a decent sale so I think they are off the radar for most people here.

Also some of the publishers, like THQ, have their own stores that sell Steam keys but I think it probably goes without saying that if you are buying from the publisher's own store that it is legit.

Oh and as mind blowing as this may sound, Origin does sell some Steamworks games, however they are the Nordstrom of digital downloads so don't expect Target prices. :p

This is never going to stop being funny. And pitiful.

Dammit I forgot Darksiders was THQ. Boycotts become a lot harder when the boycotted company actually makes stuff you kinda like.

And yeah I love Sleeping Dogs but if you can wait, it will hit Just Cause 2 prices

I love how they have the "No Steam" up there in a big bold icon and play it off like it is a benefit. Not that I have anything against DRM free, but these people have to know that there is a good portion of people who only buy things if they have keys.

I ended up pre-ordering Fall of Cybertron, my love for transformers is to great. Also I managed to beat Darksiders, so yay another game out of the backlog.

I know I defended them in the past but they are a bunch of jokers. Recently they had an article extolling the virtues of the schiesty grey market key vendors.

*Edited to add: Their big point about no DRM at all in their new bundle and thus not including Desura makes no sense. Desura is an optional client. There are plenty of games on it that are DRM free.

do you guys ever see any bethesday games on sale?

i'm not really satisfied with fallout 3 or fallout: nv on consoles, i wanted to give them a shot on pc to see how they are. i wouldn't mind picking up the goty and ultimate editions respectively, but i'd like to wait for a deal if it's feasible.

Well you just missed them on sale recently on both the big Steam summer sale AND the Quakecon sale but yes they do go on sale.

If you find a decent price on the retail boxed PC version of (newer) Bethesda games that are Steamworks you can always go for that too since they will still redeem on Steam.

Though relooking at that picture the worst part is she is all alone on an island and a Pirate ship is heading towards her. Which either means 1) Blood thirsty pirates or 2) Pirate slavers, Either way she is about to have a very bad day.
I'm keeping my PS3 for the exclusives and Blu-Ray and whatnot, but I really have no use for 360 (Netflix? Free MS points with BING?) ever since I upgraded my PC. I'm in the process of replacing all my cross-platform games from 360 to PS3 and PC and haven't run into a 360 exclusive. I would prefer to have physical copies of all my games, but I can't argue with the benefits of switching to PC gaming.
Ya I still have a PS3 and love that little thing, it is a great media box with, PS3 media server. As well as unlike with the 360 there is a ton of games on it that just never come out on PC.

In general, PC digital downloads tend to drop in price much faster than console versions of the same games.
I always think for PC gaming unless you really love the game wait for the price drop or get it at least 40-50% off. Unlike consoles there is no way to resell the games so really the games should start marked down even lower because of that, instead of just being 10$ cheaper; even worse PC games are now even adopting 60$ as the base price. Thanks Blizzard
Good news: Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 is coming to the PC. No, that's not a typo.

Bad news: It's the Japanese so you know it will be a lazy console port, require GFWL, probably have some other crappy DRM attached as well and be locked to some ridiculous low resolution.
Well you know what Mr.Motoki I present to you;

Neo Aquarium: King of Crustaceans. AKA Crabs with LASERS!

I have a Corsair Vengeance 1500 on the way, my first headset( twins coming soon, my 7.2 sound system on ps3 and 360 won't be always be an option within weeks), and am thinking of some stuff that.might show it off on PC. Got metro 2033 during summer sale, anyone Sniper Elite pack be.lower anytime soon? Dont see it as a game that will have constant sales.

Although I have a bunch of console games to get through so no rush.( I know the rule, wait if you can, but this isn't a big game that will get a lot of attention I assume) Thinking Alan Wake may be a good choice also. Never been a horror fan but everyone raves about it.

Been slacking on my steam tracking lately.

i missed a bunch of great deals during that timeframe. i was in the process of upgrading my pc because the one i had would not have been suitable for playing most games. i probably should have just bought them anyway while i waited to upgrade. :whistle2:|

Does Sniper Elite V2 get any better toward the end? I am really enjoying the game but the level design is getting worse and worse until it just isn't fun anymore. I'm at the fortress infiltration level, right after the church. These seem to get worse and worse. A game that relies on sniping mechanics, but you're in really tight quarters just doesn't work well in the fun department. Started off awesome though.

Lords of Shadow is developed mostly by a Spanish company, actually. Though I guess it doesn't really matter when making random blanket assumptions.

Yeah, I would say they get a lot better IMO. The middle area you are at was kind of weird to me. Sort of start off in a random area and move along. I mean I wouldn't say the level design really changes a lot, but the ending levels have more of a mission feel to them than the openness of the middle ones. The last level is pretty satisfying too. So I would recommend you stick with it a little longer.

Thanks man, I wanted to make sure because the last 2 hours of the game have been very unrewarding for me. I'll press through a little more ;)
I have you beat. They offered Disciples II free awhile back, and they allowed you to trade it in for $5. So I got WITN free and I grabbed Disciples II in an indie gala for like $5 with like 5 other games.
Yes I noticed that, but I have a picture of it so I win. ;)
New Indie Face Kick bundle should be up soon, not available for purchase yet but you can see what games will be in it.

Looks like there won't be any Steam or Desura keys going by the description.. and the games don't look very good.
Thanks for the heads up on that, actually. I have the second Hard Truck Apocalypse, but not the first one. They probably suck, but I'm a sucker for cars and explosions.

Hellforces, Operation Matriarchy, and Adam's Venture (although utopianmachine kinda ripped it a new one) at least seem sort of worthwhile. They look like more time is put into them then your average indie bundles with stuff like "Astroslugs".

How much is the minimum for Indie Face Kick Bundles though?

33 hours into Darksiders 2 and still not done and loving every moment of it. I have one more entire area to do till I think I am done (though I may be wrong and there could be more). I've found the great majority of collectable stuff thus far and have done all side quests. This game has been a great ride, takes you to 5 different areas that I know of at least right now and lots of hidden stuff. The soundtrack is superb, the dungeons are excellent in design, and everything else is great too.

Sorry, I know I'm sounding like a salesman, but I am really loving the game right now and am so glad I preordered it for like $38, it is worth full retail to me and I rarely ever feel that way.

Only downside is the port itself, with the lack of options and the few random bugs but nothing too bad.

Well based on past experience I'd rather keep my hopes low and potentially be pleasantly surprised. But if you want to expect a great PC port with no GFWL or other nasty non-Steam DRM go for it.

Spanish doesn't quite fill me with optimism either since when I think of European developers outside of CD Projekt I think of draconian DRM.

Oh noes, blanket assumptions!

It's a ways off so we will see. I'll take a wait and see approach and won't be doing any pre-orders but I do like Castlevania and am definitely open to it possibly being a good game to grab.
In general, PC digital downloads tend to drop in price much faster than console versions of the same games.
There is tighter distribution control in the console market. More relevant is how the used console game market helps prop up prices.
Oh and as mind blowing as this may sound, Origin does sell some Steamworks games, however they are the Nordstrom of digital downloads so don't expect Target prices. :p
Mind: blown!
I know I defended them in the past but they are a bunch of jokers. Recently they had an article extolling the virtues of the schiesty grey market key vendors.
Wow, I just read that, that's not an article, thats shady self promotion. All "GamerX" said was "Very Nice" and really BFF supportive statements. Why pirate games for free when you can pay someone for the pleasure of a shady copy?

Nothing wrong with picking up titles at their unlikely to go lower for years price, or for the when I get that new video card next month. Or (depending on age), well there's a lot of decent cheap titles a few years old that run fine and will hold me over until that new best-thing-since-chains-and-leather processor/GPU next year.

Just saw They Bleed Pixels pop up on Steam's coming soon slated for August 29th release.

"They Bleed Pixels is a fiendishly difficult action platformer inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and classic horror. Rendered in a distinct visual style that blends pixel art with paper and ink textures, They Bleed Pixels is a singular mix of intense platforming and fierce beat-em-up action."

Could be interesting. I'm not familiar with this developer so went to their site and saw some other games they worked on. One of them is Guerrilla Gardening: Seeds of Revolution.

"It's a unique blend of stealth, free form puzzle solving and civil disobedience based on the guerrilla gardening street art movement. A military dictatorship has banned all the plant life in the city. Using a host of strange and beautiful plants you'll sneak past the cops, plant illegally on government propaganda and fill the citizens with cheerful insurrection. Finally a gardening game for anarchists!"

And here I had just been lamenting the lack of gardening games for anarchists!

Unfortunately, it sounds like that game has been on permanent hold for quite some time now.

I used to love that cheesy show!

And King of Crustaceans sounds like a game right up my alley.

I linked to the steam announcement trailer a couple weeks back( http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9869930#post9869930 ). It's definitely something I am planning on picking up. And thanks for the info on the gardening game - that actually may be something my GF would like. I will keep an eye out for it if it is ever released.

Really glad to read this since I just bought the second one a few days ago and finally beat the first today. First game was great and the second one looks even better. I've also read that Darksiders II is supposed to be getting worked on to add more pc options. Though if this will bear any fruit is debatable.
