Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I know some of you guys were talking about OnLive: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/08/17/onlive-possibly-being-closed-by-end-of-day Looks like they are closing.
*edit: Okay they told the gaming news site Ripten that they aren't closing:

http://www.ripten.com/2012/08/17/onlive-not-closing-official-comment/

re: Hey Onlive, are you closing?
Thanks for the note. We don’t respond to rumors, but of course not.
The exciting news is that the first VIZIO Co-Stars (Google TV stream players) with the OnLive app built-in have just arrived in customer homes, and our second of three ‘Indie Giveaway Weekends’ is going on now. OnLive users can get a free copy of the award-winning games Space Pirates and Zombies and SpaceChem (more details on our blog here: blog.onlive.com).

Also, as of 1 and 6 minutes ago they are tweeting away which seems odd for a company that's kicking everyone out by the end of the day.

----

It sounds like someone else is buying them out.

You know, I kind of suspected this for a while. The seemed like they were gaining momentum for a while then all of the sudden they, pardon the pun, ran out of steam. The releases got fewer and farther between and they weren't getting a lot of the big titles.

It seemed to me like they were just getting themselves geared up to sell to some other entity anway.

All I can say is I hope it's not EA or Ubisoft and I hope that the new owner will honor all prior purchases (even free ones :p).
I don't really find that video entertaining at all. Even on a stupid ha ha level, it's just cheesy generic pop and an equally cheesy video.
I found it entertaining on the level of, say, looking at everything in a fun house mirror. It looks familiar but odd and slightly disturbing. It gets a smile for weirdness.
I really like Unstoppable Gorg.

It has more charisma in one level than the entirety of Defense Grid. The fundamentals are well done and the audio/video shines. It's absolutely worth $2.50 if you missed it in that Indie Royale bundle.
It's no Defense Grid, but it's a neat twist on TD. No pun intended. I found it to be sort of difficult, but then maybe I haven't purchased upgrades optimally which would also be annoying.

I have a weird feeling that Activision is going to buy OnLive. It doesn't make any sense that they would. But chances are them or EA.

The Onlive Saga Continues!

They told MacRumors that they don't respond to rumors (heh) but that they aren't closing down.

[…]

I have no comment on the news other than to say the OnLive service is not shutting down.

I'm sorry I cannot be more specific.

The I cannot be more specific part seems highly suspect to say the least.

Also Kotaku is reporting they are filing for bankruptcy and a new company will take its place.

http://kotaku.com/5935767/onlive-filing-for-bankruptcy-new-company-to-take-its-place

Orcs Must Die 2 is doing a 'Weekly Challenge' map where you are limited to a specific character/load out. First one is fairly underwhelming: it's the fourth campaign map (The Crossing) and you are limited to your gun and spring traps. And that's it. Hopefully they get a bit more creative.

Re: Onlive. It's Onlive. Anyone who has even a minor trepidation of 'buying' games on Steam wouldn't have touched Onlive with a fifty foot pole. Horrible concept.

Poor OnLive..having to make posts stating that they are not dead..While other sources find out that they may infact instead be dying..though technically their not dead yet then.

It worked okay for some people, like me as long as I accessed it at home and not on a mobile connection.

It's a very much YMMV thing though. Honestly I think they are (were?) ahead of their time and the infrastructure just isn't there yet on a widespread basis to support something like that.

Anyway, while I did get Ass Creed Revelations plus the console from them for $50, everything else I got from them was either free or near free so I don't feel too terrible if they go away, but we'll see what they can come up with.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious you own nothing on onlive, and you may lose access to your games after a few years (they guarantee you'll have them for for a certain length of time depending on what you purchase, but make no promises after that).

But people have made that exact argument for Steam before too and if you really dig through the Steam TOS you can certainly get that impression they could do that if they wanted to and but within their legal rights.

Of course the difference is that you can, ahem, crack the games because you have the actual files, but they won't legally run without Steam authorizing them to.

The offline mode has always been kind of flakey and I know Valve said if they ever went out of business they'd patch all the games for offline play but I believe that was more an unofficial statement than any sort of guarantee. The lengthy Steam TOS has CYA written all over it and they could get away with a lot and still be in their legal rights. They won't because it's not in their interest but they could.

I still think that gaming will mostly shift to cloud gaming at some point but that may not be for some time to come yet.

Ya it is a shame that the offline mode is still such a mess, I remember when Steam was still new within 2-3 years or so the offline worked perfectly and never had a issue. In fact that was how people got around the whole not being able to LAN Counter-Strike with Steam issues.

With Steam I am hoping they are just to big to fail, as basically every PC Gamer seems to be with them now.

There's a huge difference though, Steam doesn't give you a minimum period of time that you have before they take content away from you.. Onlive does. Whenever you try to buy anything through Onlive, they give you an exact date which is the absolute minimum period of time you have before they can take away whatever you purchased. To me, that's implying that they will start taking away content after a while, otherwise I see no need to have such exact dates.

If something gets taken off of Onlive's store, I'd imagine that you'd lose that content permanently.. but if the same situation happened on Steam, you'd keep the content but it wouldn't be available to buy from the store from that point on. Of course, I'm just assuming, I don't know if anything has been taken off of Onlive's store yet. I don't follow it that closely.

Even if Onlive worked for me, I would still not touch it with a 10 foot pole. I mean at least with Steam, I could download anything I want and have the files sitting on my PC. In some cases like Arma 2, I don't even need Steam to launch the game.

I never trusted Onlive. I was worried about the our service is going down, sorry type of thing.

To be honest, and I really hate admitting this, UPlay's offline mode lately has given me way less trouble than Steam's has...

I always thought the expiration period was more just put there to cover their butts and that once that point rolled around they'd still allow people to continue on with the games for the most part. I think the outrage would be extreme if they revoked people's access to games they bought at full price even if it was in the fine print. The language is careful to note that they can take away your access at that point but not necessarily that it's an absolute that they will.

Then again, to be honest I also didn't think they would last that long to get to that point before they folded or someone bought them out.

Part of me almost wonders if they didn't think they would last that long. Like maybe they had a goal to sell in X # of years and didn't want to saddle the buyer with all the existing customer licenses indefinitely or something.

I have to agree; there's a little too much smoke here for there not to be at least a smoldering ember. I'd venture to say that the service is probably going to continue but that the current corporate structure will change in some way (takeover, merger, shutdown, etc.).

I've never invested more than a dollar in OnLive (when they had that "get your first game with us for a dollar" promo that people abused the heck out of) partly because it's so dependent on having a solid internet connection. I also don't like the fact that configuration settings for games are highly limited and you don't have any game files stored locally. However, it's great for demos, as a previous poster stated. Oh well, I hope it doesn't cave completely.

Problem is,

In the world we currently live a PR persons job is to tell people there is no reason to panic while the amphitheater burns down around everyone and someone takes an axe to everyone who attempts to get out the door.

I can't keep track but what IS confirmed is there was a MASSIVE layoff (basically everyone) at Onlive.

That can mean a couple of things:
Backruptcy/Restructuring
Buyout
Liquidation
Shady business practice

It could be them just trying to save their ass in case anything happens to the licenses, but honestly.. I don't think they'd spend the money to keep an entire stream on the store after its taken down for purchasing. It'd probably cost a lot more to keep a stream up than it would to just keep downloads available like Steam does. This is just me assuming again though, I really have no idea how much it costs to keep their services up. For most streaming services, once their contract or whatever runs out, they take the ability to stream it completely off of the client/service. I've only made 1 purchase on onlive, and that was back when they had the $1 promo. I fully expect for onlive to die eventually, probably sooner rather than later so I haven't bought anything else on there and have no plans to.
WARNING: IF YOU GO INTO THE NEW COMMUNITY MODE ON STEAM VIA THE WEB IT CAN PULL UP SOME VERY NSFW IMAGES

Ugh. Just found that out the hard way. Now I have to clean the browser cache on this PC so no one thinks I am surfing porn at work.
This further perpetuates the myth truth that gamers are inherently perverts.
Ya it is a shame valve didn't think of that ahead of time, Just borrowing the community "Game hubs" is basically filled with a ton of screen shots of digital bikini's and crotch/cleavage/butt shots. The Batman City game hub alone is nothing but Harley butt/cleavage shots.

Even left 4 dead is a bunch of screen shots of peoples porn/anime porn wall tags LOL poor valve...so much to clean up.
You sure you guys aren't just looking at my profile page?
After accepting the Steam Community Beta Access, and then clicking on the DOTA 2 game hub, I saw there was a link to the store page. It was hashtag city, as expected, but it allowed me to associate the game with my account and install it.

I'm probably the only person I can think of who wasn't already in the beta, and the store page has a link to sign up for a free invite, but it's still a nice little bonus, IMO.

Edit: Too good to be true, mostly. As of today, EVERY steam account gets an spectator-only client of DOTA 2. To play the game, you either have to sign up with the hardware survey and continue to wait or purchase a new legendary bundle for $29.99, which gives you instant access and several items.

Thanks signed up for the beta, tired of wasting points on Steamgifts for it. :applause:

You might be right and it is a totally different system that's going to cost them more bandwidth than simply downloading.

I guess I just tend to ignore all the many terms that all these services have because they have all gotten ridiculously long full of legalese CYA junk that if you take it all literally is very alarming and anti consumer but I just go and buy the stuff and hope that they will be reasonable in spite of the terms.

This goes for all digital gaming services too, Steam, Origin, etc. whoever. If you read any of their terms everything is pretty much in their favor and not the consumer's but in the reality they can't piss people off TOO much or they won't stay in business.

Ignoring all the legalese (even if I do read it) hasn't bit me in the ass yet, but it may someday.

Anyway, the only thing I have on Onlive that I paid any significant money for is Assassin's Creed Revelations. If Onlive totally goes away and I don't have access to it anymore, I'm hoping I can talk Ubisoft into letting me have the Uplay version. My Onlive account is linked to my UPlay one and it comes up in my UPlay dashboard when I login there from the web that I own the game via Onlive so they know I bought it.

We'll see. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.
I don't even know how the game works. I just want the figure and sell the game.
You should activate it before it goes F2P to get the bonus coins. However you can also run a free trial over the game up to level 15 without activating an account. It's worth doing that first (I am doing it currently) because why start your 30 days sooner than you have to?

lol.. it's really on SteamGifts?

I have one btw, if anyone would use it. Portal 2 75% off coupon too, but please use it and don't sell/trade it.

Too bad about the OnLive rumors. It seemed like a really good concept. I tried it out a couple of times on my phone but everything ran pretty shitty so I never bothered with it again. Still though I wished they would have perfected it since I think it's a good idea.

Wow. Guess I should put my OnLive console up on ebay, since I haven't even used it...

Note:
This was filmed when Japan was undergoing a serious economic crisis.
Thousands of Japanese died by suicide thinking their lives were hopeless.
Then famous Japanese comedians were gathered to perform this
ridiculous yet funny and cheery song to tell people
"Everything's gonna be all right. We're doing just fine"
Thanks to this song, the suicidal rates decreased dramatically.

Back on topic. Man, been playing Darksiders 2 and it is freaking awesome. If you liked the first one, it is everything that game is and like 50x more. I'm 20 hours into it and I'm not close to being done and loving every moment (the first one took me 20 hours total to beat and I got everything but 4 of those artifacts). Well worth the cash on this one, just did a 6.5 hour session, kept telling myself one more dungeon lol.
I'm happy to hear that. I need to play the first still but having more good games to play is always welcome. :)
Uhh that weird Japanese video broke the thread.

Yatta! :p
Hmmm not sure what happened :whistle2:k

Edit: fixed it

That video probably broke the thread because you don't need to use a tag to display youtube videos. Just put in the URL and CAG does the rest. Using https on youtube videos and the youtube tag with the full URL breaks shit.

This is literally my favorite japanese funny video. I imagine this song during any anime I watch to see if it'll fit so I can do a JMV.

Edit: By the way, you read up on what OnLive is doing?
http://bankruptcy.cooley.com/2008/0...s-for-the-benefit-of-creditors-simple-as-abc/
Basically, their selling enough off to pay off their creditors. It's like a Bankruptcy. So no, Onlive, will not be down tomorrow but it'll be completely different. Change of names, change of methodology. OnLive as we know it is effectively dead.

That's right #-o

The preview always messes with my head cause it makes me think it will show as hyperlinked and not embedded.

Wow, a new thread already. That's what happens when I don't check for a few days. I thought it was just my browser getting messed up by the video.

Does it fit with many?

So, people in the community beta "awesome" or "meh"?

Also, Coconut Queen question. I just completed all the main levels. Do I need to do the bonus areas before I complete the main story or is it ok to after?
There are a couple but most of them have those over the top ZOMG girls (if you know what I mean). Think Excel Saga.
I know Excel Saga

It's, err, interesting. There's some features I like but it needs some work. Beta is probably a good way to put it.

Apparently, doing the side stuff first glitches things up so that you don't get the story ending and just the dancing ending.

Last post: Someone in the onLive area posted this:
http://techcrunch.com/2012/08/17/so...use-to-reduce-liability-prior-to-acquisition/

Read some of the comments. If that founder did what they say he did to the employees, I wouldn't give them a penny in business.
Wow. I'm kind of speechless. That's beyond shitty. Especially to hear from the actual employees or their family like that.

It seems that the CEO basically fired everyone but senior staff so he gets a bigger cut of the profits from selling the company, but will graciously hire everyone back next week, once the 'new' company takes ownership. Total dick move.

Does Sniper Elite V2 run like crap for anyone else? I can run most PC games on high or max settings, but for some reason I have to run Sniper Elite V2 at medium settings and its still patchy.

What do you mean by patchy? I ran it on high everything and ran fine with me, but again I am not the anal ultra picky type that will notice a stuttering leaf in the corner or anything like that.

Nah, like it really starts to slow down during random parts of the game or during random scenes. Its sporadic though. But it really affects the gameplay when my scope lags a tiny bit and the guy running lags a tiny bit when they are 1000m away. Then really random scenes which I do not understand, for example I am on the mission where you infiltrate the bomb lab in the mine or whatever it is, when your character starts saying how he needs clues to figure out where the scientists are, and he overhears the German radio, my game was lagging RIDICULOUSLY bad during that scene. No idea why.

Oh ok, yeah I didn't have any of those problems. At least none I can recall that affected the gameplay. My system isn't top of the line either. Don't know what to tell you.

Really strange, its not all the time, but maybe once every 10-15 minutes and it lasts 30 seconds or so.
