Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I liked it. It was one of the few stealth type games I felt interested in actually doing "right" rather than shooting everyone in the face.

A number of people were upset at changes in the disguise mechanic between it and previous games in the franchise. I never played the others so it didn't bother me. If you did play them and are expecting this game to play the same, you might be disappointed.
With any of the Ys games you can generally get past any boss blindfolded if you overlevel.

Of course the two things wrong with that scenario are that it catches up with you in the end and that it makes the game tedious and really grindy.

That said, I have little patience for getting my ass handed to me over and over so I generally tend to try a few times and then overlevel if I can't get it on the second or third try.
Yeah but the way Ys works out is that you only generally need to bash monsters for a level or two to reach the recommended level and the returns diminish hard when you start trying to overlevel.

And Boss Attack mode locks you to the recommended level so you can't grind your way out.
hitman on sale already? is it good?
Yep.

10 Days, 4 hrs and 34 minutes to the holiday sale :D.

I am counting down because my girlfriend keeps talking about Skyrim because she her life has been absorbed by it and god dammit I wanna play that again, but I wanna buy the DLC first that's out.

Also FTL is pretty cool. I mean $6 is the right price for it.
Yes it's free. It'd be pretty messed up if Capcom charged for it when it's a fan made game.
Actually, that sounds about right. I'd expect them to charge 20 dollars for it for the next 5 years then they'd drop it 5 dollars.

And require Games for Windows Live.

Maybe I'm the only one this bothers, but GamersGate had Sonic Generations for 80% off yesterday. Which sounds great, until you notice they jacked the base price up to $50. Today, after the sale was over, the price was back down to $30, which was retail launch price. Shady practices like that and removal of their "forever" discount are quickly pushing GamersGate down my list of retailers and I'm to the point where the deal will have to be markedly better to buy there over somewhere else.

I posted your message on their facebook page, consider them warned.

To be fair, they have made the same mistake in the other direction quite a few times, too, resulting in a fair few bargains. But yes, I was also clicking through expecting to see $6 Generations.
Can't get myself to pull the trigger on orcs must die 2. At least it should hit that price during the winter sale again.
It's $3.54 at Gamersgate using IAMANELDERGEEK, not including the store credit for rating/reviewing. :p

I'd like to play to get the Viral achievement sometime if anyone has that.

Transcripted is $2.49 today, 75% off. Wish I had been able to buy it on Gamefly for $0.79 last week, but I seem to need a paying membership/another card to charge to. Wouldn't accept my payment...

I suspect you'll not be too unhappy. It was on a big sale last week followed by a Steam sale this week. That screams Humble Bundle inclusion to me, and Humble Bundle 7 is supposed to hit in about a week.

Negative. You do NOT need the gamefly client to get your steam keys. 1GFT1112 is a single-use code, so you might want to consider saving the 20% off for something more expensive.

Gamestop/Impulse is the only seller daft enough not to give steam keys though the web page. But then again, you're probably used to being abused by gamestop.

It's live!
Rumor is that Gamely will have on sale Mon & Tues steam keys for
XCOM - $25 ($20)
Walking Dead - $12.50 ($10)

20% off code 1GFT1112 may still be active then and would drop to XCOM - $20 & WD - $10

Not live yet. Mon & Tues

I'm torn if I want to buy X-Com or not for $20...I probably won't play it for awhile, but that's a solid price!
It can only get cheaper

Has Half Life 1 ever been less than $1.99?

Tired of seeing the greyed out "Half Life: Source" in my library so I might finally bite. Have/had it for PS2 originally (blasphemy, I know!) so I never bothered to get it for PC.

Got it for $ 0.99 at the 2008 Holiday sale.

Hmm, the full Gamefly sale page is here.

Not much of note. F1 2012 is $25 (again?). With code that's $20, the cheapest it's been I think. For some reason Codemasters hasn't given good price drops/sales to F1 2010/11/12.

Crysis Max is $7.50 (again)

Hmmm, am I willing to wait 6 more years for the 20th anniversary? Or 1 more for the 15th? Maybe I am...lol

Noticed the Steam forums are still down for "maintenance" and/or "server migration". Weird. Last time I remember them being down this long as when the forums got hacked last year.

Greenmangaming.com has FEAR 1 and Mortal Kombat Kollection (Steam) for $2.99 each. There is a one-use coupon WINTR-SRVEY-42012 for 35% off.

I'm not sure which one I'd play more. Horror FPSes aren't really my bag but all the talk of aging well and great AI and its amazing shotgun keeps me from striking FEAR off the list.

Or simply download Black Mesa Source although I am unsure on whether or not they finished the last bit of the game yet. Don't spend any money and essentially get the same experience with better visuals.

Doesn't Black Mesa require Half Life installed?
Doesn't Black Mesa require Half Life installed?
No, that was the original plan but now it only requires the Source 06 or 07 files. You can download that from the tools in Steam.

The other steps to install Black Mesa are a bit too much for me since I played HL1 semi recently. I'm going to wait for Black Mesa to be on Steam proper for a one click install.

Skip MKK, especially if you have any nostalgia for the arcade/cabinet versions. Very lazy ports.

A couple of Winter sales ago they sold the anthology for like $1.75 or cheaper. Assuming you want the expansions that's the cheapest I've seen it.

For someone reason I thought it was already on Steam. Must have thought when it got Greenlit it was on steam. Oh well, just have to wait now until it is.
Or simply download Black Mesa Source although I am unsure on whether or not they finished the last bit of the game yet. Don't spend any money and essentially get the same experience with better visuals.
It's still not finished, and I think the original is worth playing, regardless.

Black Mesa Source is great, but does enough slightly wrong that it doesn't have the same overall feel to it as Half-Life. I'd stick with the original or HL:S, though I think the question was just for completion's sake.

I thought passing Greenlight would be an instant "on Steam now!" moment, but there must be some sort of file packing standard. McPixel was on Steam within a day of being Greenlight. Maybe it's the legal side of Steam needing to sign contracts etc.

The 25% off code GMG25-CZPYL-D5MQ6 is still working for me when I just tried it. The 35% is good for 4 more days so unless you really are sure you won't get anything else the difference is fairly negligible especially on already really cheap games.

Personally, I am kind of tempted to get The Good Life (not on Steam) at 3 dollars and change after using a code even though the reviews are horrible.

I guess it's a Euro-simulator that simulates being a rich man on vacation. Or something.

Games have to be complete before they go on Steam. Alot of the games that have been greenlit are still being finished (like Sang Froid) so we won't see them for a while.

And thanks all for the advice. I might wait until I see a .99 cent or a $1.75 for the anthology. In no rush to play it again, though I might try Black Mesa once it gets on Steam.

Okay I thought I remembered that too, so I'm not crazy. Or I am crazy =P~ but GMG still changed their tune.

On the Deals page it now says:

Sneaky sneaky! Thanks for the verification. Might have to use it to grab Chivalry for a shade under $9.

Yeah, it used to be good through the month. I was saving it for the Christmas sales so that's kind of weak of them.
Okay I thought I remembered that too, so I'm not crazy. Or I am crazy =P~ but GMG still changed their tune.

On the Deals page it now says:

Why not try saving even more with our
35% off voucher* below:

WINTR-SRVEY-42012

*This voucher is single use only. Valid
until 14th December 2012 12:00UTC.

That is fucking shady of GMG. I was waiting to use that coupon for later on, hoping for a sale of Lego LOTR or Scribblenauts, or heck anything that I wanted where using the coupon would yield more then sub $1 savings over the the 25% off one.
