Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Today's deal is Ship Simulator Extremes at 75% off ($4.99)

DLC is 99 cents each
The collection with all DLC is $7.49

edit: Also, no HIB? I'll likely be standing in a long security line at about this time tomorrow. Rats.
Now this is good. I was going to buy one DLC recently for $3.99, but getting them for .99 a pop is even better. Will definitely get the Ferry and Cruise DLC and check out the rest. Now I wish I hadn't bought Extremes alone, since the bundle for $7.49 is a super deal.
The other weekend deal is Trine franchise 75% off. Coupons don't stack.

Trine 2: Goblin Menace dlc is released.
Dammit, Trine 2 dloaded an update over 1gb a few weeks ago. I assumed that was the goblin dlc and that it was free. ah well... Not like id be playing it right now anyways, since Guild Wars 2 is eating all my game time.

just when I thought my wallet was safe.

So tomorrow's daily deal at Gamestop is the Saint's Row the Third Complete Pack for 75% off - making it around $16-17 bucks.

Does anyone know if you get a separate Steam key for each item in the bundle? Tempted to buy it for the DLC and then just sell off the base game key.

Off topic of the sale but has anyone ever had a Steam key revoked?

Bought a key off here that originated from GMG. They ended up replacing the key a few weeks later and now my account says I own the game already but yet I cannot download the game (just stuck at 0%, Resume does nothing), it's not in my Library and the Store page shows I don't own the game.

Getting frustrated with email only support. Takes weeks to resolve something.

Never had this issue. Was it that whole Sleeping Dogs pre-order fiasco? Are you trying to get them to remove the game so you can add the replacement key they issued? Steam CS is slow slow slow. So you have to be persistent and keep emailing. Very frustrating process.

I had a copy of dead island revoked. I got a big pop up message from steam support saying the key was revoked or something along those lines

You know, it sort of bothers me that the Goblin Menace DLC is $6.79 alone, but the entire Trine Franchise is only $2 more.

So for anyone who already owns those games you sort of get screwed, but if you own none of them they are basically saying "here, have the two base games practically free if you buy the new DLC."

I mean I know I won't be buying it until it hits 75% off either way, but sort of bad way to promote their games if you ask me.

Hmm...No this is actually Civ V and it's an old transaction which makes this even more difficult. I submitted a new ticket but I was thinking along the same lines that there is something lingering saying I still own the game.

So what is the issue? You bought Civ V from GMG and they replaced the key? Or you bought it from someone on CAG who got it from GMG and they replaced the key? Why did they replace the key?

Was it due to running out of activations? I think we're all curious because stores like Amazon and Gamersgate say they will provide new keys if you ever run out of activations for a product, but we've always wondered how that would be handled on Steam's end since you can't activate the same product more than once.

Dead Island had a rampant problem with black market keys so if you bought it from a non-retailer (or a shady one) then there was a chance it could be revoked. A lot of people bought it retail during a Newegg sale and a bunch of keys turned up as already redeemed. The end result is the people who had the legitimate keys (provable by a picture of the physical number on the manual) were ultimately assigned those keys and the illegitimate ones revoked.

Not sure what's going on with the Civ 5 transaction above, although you always run the risk of getting scammed by buying a key off of a non-retailer/third party person. Unless you have some kind of proof of transaction with a reputable retailer you are pretty much SOL.

Back in 2011, Ubisoft's digital marketplace had a glitch where everything was free. Some of the games, like R.U.S.E, could be activated on Steam. Around a month after I activated it on my account, it mysteriously disappeared. No warnings, popups or anything.

Yeah, I hate that too. There's been so many times I didn't buy a bundle, or anything for that matter, because I wouldn't get giftable copies of the ones I already own. Maybe if enough of us complain to customer support it'll get their attention and they'll change it. I can dream, can't I?

I think the Frozenbyte Collection is an even better deal at $9.99

You get the Trine Complete Collection and the two Shadowgrounds games. I added this to my gift inventory for a rainy day.

It was the latter of the two. Bought off a CAG who bought it off of GMG. They replaced the key because it was revoked from my account by the publisher so says Steam support. I highly doubt it was due to activation given the explanation given to me by Steam support. However, no additional information from 2K regarding it. They wont even acknowledge GMG as a legitimate retailer.

The Dead Island thing was due to ROW keys being sold for a buck due to a price mistake and then flipped for $5-10 over that holiday season. Even legitimate hard copies of the game key's were revoked just due to a batch of keys submitted by the publisher because of this. Those that had still "working" copies of them already activated would just randomly not have it in their account the following day. Some even still have double activation issues so the publishers list of keys sent to be revoked was incomplete at best.

Agreed, but the CAG I bought it off of has been nice enough to follow through with GMG regarding the key. He did get another key for me but it seems my Steam account still believes I own the game and cannot activate this new key.

I only asked here not to point blame but just to see if anyone has had a similar experience. This is the first game to have been revoked from my account.

It's a good deal, but most people already got the Shadowground games for free from the "summer seal" site Frozenbyte had up. I gave away 2 sets of those games back then.

That's the risk you run not buying keys directly from a retailer. It's happened to me before too. Just chalk it up as a L and get on with your life, all you can do really.

cool, then what are you complaining about? steam has deactivated people's accounts for buying stuff from 'friends' overseas. i wouldn't prod them about this if i were you.

I didn't make one complaint, just a simple inquiry as to if others have had the same experience.

Yeah this bugs me too. I appreciate trying to grab new buyers, but it sure makes me feel like a sucker for already owning their games.

Noticed this in the TF2 update:

Team Fortress 2
Added the Fall 2012 crate key to the Mann Co. store
Upcoming Fall sale? Autumn sale didn't start until the end of November last year but it seems a bit early to put a special event TF2 key in the files two months away.

In store it says it will turn into a normal key after September 20th:
Wait, is FTL coming to Steam? Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit
September 14 on Steam and GOG, $10. From their Kickstarter page: Second, FTL will also be available on GOG.com! They will be selling a DRM free version that will include some bonus materials (a few music tracks / some development art).

Hoping for a 20% off release deal on Steam, but will pay full price if no sale.

Hmmm. Odd dates because fall officially starts on September 22. So don't know what they have planned if anything.

End of summer sale!!! Maybe something Torchlight 2 related. Or new Train Simulator hats.

I wish they would have done the "gift copies of games you already had" thing. Would have made a lot of sense for Frozenbyte.

This is TF2. I would expect this to be anymore than just a random fall update. I mean Steam loves to just throw random TF2 hats and shit in all the time.

Doesn't that apply to every Steam sale ever?

For that reason, I have never purchased anything on Steam at full price. However, I "pay" in that I cannot get the game when it comes out, and I cannot participate in the release hype and discussion.
Lone Survivor the combat was horrid which actually did cause me to stop playing. Also that and I don't like zombies in media.
I'm sorry, but it's been a long day, and I've spent nearly all of it speaking with non-native English speakers. How exactly then *do* you like zombies—if you ARE counting print as a medium, then I want to know where to travel to work on my hatchet skills.
Bought a key off here that originated from GMG. They ended up replacing the key a few weeks later and now my account says I own the game already but yet I cannot download the game (just stuck at 0%, Resume does nothing), it's not in my Library and the Store page shows I don't own the game.
To get it out of the way, you have unplugged and replugged in your Steam (restarted the program, deleted clientregistery.blob)? Sometimes that's a Steam cureall. If yes, then if it's not in your library and not on the store page, what are you clicking on to start the install?

Am I the only one who had to Google FTL to know what people are talking about? (Faster Than Light, apparently.) I hadn't heard of it before today's discussion of it.

I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea here, but there's a new Game Music Bundle out today and for the next week featuring soundtracks to iPhone games. The $1 minimum gets you five albums: HORN (by the composer from JOURNEY), Squids: Wild West, Puzzlejuice, Globulous, and Organ Trail: Director's Cut. $10 gets you seven more (plus an additional two if they hit sales milestones) including Wyv and Keep which I believe I recall from the Alpha Bundle on Indie Royale.

I've bought their past Game Music Bundles, but of these, the only one I've played was the prototypical Organ Trail, so this one doesn't look all the hot yet. If they add more along the line, I might consider it, or perhaps put in the dollar and see if I like at least one of them.

No just the ones that affect me

Yeah, that's true in a way though I suppose I'm drawing a distinction in selling something dirt cheap (DLC) to new Trine 2 buyers and sticking it to anyone that already owns the game.

Giftable copies would have gone a long way towards easing the pain.

To me it is very different in a Steam sale. Fine, you offer X game for a low price during a Steam sale across the board. I might have paid 10X for the game, but it doesn't bother me because I was fine with the price when I paid for it and the sale price is across the board.

In this instance, they are saying "You supported us in the past? - Then you pay more for this game. You haven't supported us at all? - Great, we will give you an even bigger discount for some games."

I know technically it is a bundle and bundles are going to be cheaper than individual games, but the bundle basically gives you a 75% discount on everything, including the new DLC, but alone the DLC is only 15% off.

I had no clue what FTL was and felt super out of the loop since they were mentioning it like it was something big. Googled it, saw the site, then the hype died down. Not my type of game.

Maybe I'm alone here, but I actually thought the combat in Lone Survivor worked pretty well. They kept it extremely simple, which seemed like the way to go. The combat system in Sword & Sworcery was just... odd.

I thought the LS combat was functional but these sorts of horror games are all "THEIR SUPPOSED TO HAVE TERRIBLE COMBAT CUZ IT SYMBOLIZES HOW WEAK YOU ARE" a blah blah blah so anything better than utterly terrible is a rare prize from the genre.

Hard to give LS credit after those horrible endings. I drank all those buckets of water for THAT? Geez louise.

Yeah, I think that's a common excuse for weak combat systems. I think Penumbra found a good mix between functional combat and keeping the clear idea that you're human and not a hack-n-slash warrior. You had to use your head too
(dropping and blowing up rusty oxygen tanks, etc)

Well I don't like zombies in anything, but I especially dislike the cramming of zombies into everything that seems to currently be happening. I probably could have phrased it better, so you can rest your hatchet. However I did feel I gave Lone Survivor a fair chance, spending an hour in it and getting to the basement.

Have to admit, the first time I heard growling my heart started pumping and I hid like a sissy. >_>

When did Crysis 2 become available on Steam? Wasn't that always an Origin-exclusive or initially on Steam then yanked? I've already got it on Origin via Amazon key, but just asking.
