Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I'm probably going to make myself start The Longest Journey soon. Although I should probably also make myself finish Syberia. The longer it goes without me playing it, the less likely I'll return and finish it...
Syberia is about 11 hours. Course, it doesn't complete the plot, which compels you to play Syberia II. Still very unsure if the whole thing is worth it.

Same here, but when it prompted me I ignored it.

I'm going to wait on Borderlands 2 until a Steam sale but that is good to hear.

Now, if only games would stop using punkbuster...

Of course, my first experience is not being able to connect to my friend's multiplayer game. Extremely disappointing that we're still having these issues in 2012.

Just played BL2 for 30 minutes. Pretty fun so far. At least first impressions I felt this one got into the action quicker than the first.

SRtT is around 9 GB for the base game so anyone with a slower connection should start preloading now for the weekend.

BL2: awesome so far. Had a bit of trouble with getting all 4 people into 1 lobby but switching who was host seemed to resolve it. Also, don't forget to tell your firewall to allow. Did they change the voice actor for Scooter? Booooooo

Hm, that's longer than I thought. I'm only about 4 hours in. I had hoped I was at the halfway point, but I guess not.

I like the story, but I find the puzzles a bit difficult and the whole system more archaic than I like.

Still, I always feel like I'm supposed to play those games that are considered classics, so I'll probably go back to it.

Do NOT enter any A Valley Without A Wind key giveaways. Most of them are illegally exploited. Sadly, I redeemed one some random guy posted on SPUF and didn't find out until later that the keys were exploited..

Steam gift copies are fine, but stay away from any keys for now unless you bought them directly from the dev or through another legit retailer.

I can confirm this.

Sorry, I just meant to stay away from keys for that game.
Okay, first of all, thanks to imac2much for the generosity extended to us CAGs, of which I was fortunate enough to be the recipient. It's a good example of the positive spirit you see in our community from time to time that makes us one of the more worthwhile places online to socialize through video games.

That said, I am in agreement about the story in To the Moon: even in its brevity, it's a heart-warming story that's fairly well-written and directed for a small dev team. The humor isn't forced and it's charming rather than treacly. There's even a twist at the end, but it doesn't invalidate what came before.

They sell the soundtrack separately, and even though I thought the music fits very well with the story being told, I wasn't overwhelmed enough by it to wanna plunk down for it (as I did with a title like Bastion).

Yes, the graphics are what you'd expect from an RPG Maker engine, but it fits well with the material. It almost feels like a chapter from an older JRPG with the unnecessary combat bits—and there's a joke about that—trimmed. It's not entirely fair to criticize the medium the creators use when the finished product turns out this well.

However, To the Moon is a game in a minimal sense. There are relatively few choices to be made, a couple of non-essential mini-games, no true scoring system, and its replayability derives from catching previously overlooked details once you know the full story. From this, I'd guess that most CAGs here would not find value in purchasing it at full price unless you were a fan of this type of story-driven entertainment. Still, I believe the experience provided here is worth it for both novice and experienced gamers, at whatever price you care to grab it.
Thanks for your impressions on the game! I do agree that TtM could have done some things much better, especially anything related to gameplay. It seems that Reives / Freebird games is taking a lot of the constructive criticism to heart as they create their next episode of TtM. I also agree that most CAGs would probably want to wait until it's $3-5 but I hope people DO play it once it hits that sweet spot!

As for the music, I think there are 1 or 2 pieces that really stuck in my head for a long time, but I don't think I would have bought the soundtrack either (except I already had it from the Indie Game music bundle). It's funny that I actually went to iTunes right after I beat Bastion to buy the soundtrack too, haha.

I've been meaning to play TLJ ever since I played Anarchy Online... about 10 years ago? Now Secret World is out and I still haven't played TLJ... I really should get to it... Anyone have opinions about TLJ or Dreamfall?

I also redeemed one of these keys tonight. Someone on a forum I'm on sent me it. I didn't realize it was from an exploit.. I just assumed it was some bundle I didn't know about or something. :/

Main reason I'm posting this is... is my account in any danger here?

I was gonna say 4 lol. hurry up and pick it up only 3 more months till its over.
Anyone have opinions about TLJ or Dreamfall?
I played TLJ originally when it came out on PC and loved it (and I think you had to import it from England or Canada). The story and world were compelling and it had a sense of humour without being 'wacky.' Having a female protagonist that is a real person and not some gamer made archetype of how women are, is a big plus for me in any game.

I rebought it during the Summer sale and have yet to replay but have been reading up on it. Apparently there are a few illogical infuriating puzzles that I managed to block out. At least we have game faqs and the like now. While nostalgia could be making the game seem better in my head, my taste in gaming has been impeccable since I was a little kid (music, I can't defend that one) and every game I've replayed, that I used to love, are still quality.

Dreamfall I never finished. Granted, that was a terrible time in my life and I didn't have the opportunity to finish the game, but I just didn't get pulled enough in to jump back in when I had the chance. I bought it with TLJ during the Steam sale and plan on going back to it but it isn't at the top of my list. All I really remember was: I was impressed by the graphics and the beginning dragged on forever.

Dreamfall apparently ends on a cliffhanger that annoyed a lot of people, from the non-spoiler reviews I've read. I don't recall TLJ having that problem either.

Now does that count the people who can't do math and bought the digital games and usb drive separately?
Now does that count the people who can't do math and bought the digital games and usb drive separately?
You do know it is cheaper to do that right? So actually everyone buying separately is saving 10 dollars... Did they drop the price of the bundle because I don't recall it costing only $1 for the games? Or I just remember the absurd price for preloading games onto a usb drive.
And I own all of them but vessel. Lame
I own Torchlight and Rochard, but not the others (well, aside from Dustforce.. but that's good, I won't need to BTA!). Worth the $1 alone for Vessel, Shatter, and SPAZ. I'm glad I passed on Vessel in the summer sale, knew it'd be in a bundle at some point. Now to wait for QUBE to be added to a bundle and I'm all set ;)

Wow, that has to have JUST happened right? Before it was something like: $8 for the games, 15$ for the games on a USB drive, or $10 for the USB drive. It made no sense.

Now they are up to 200? Wtf?:hot:

Last time I had checked their site, it also didn't have a picture of the drive, so it may have been longer than I thought since I've checked it.
Son of a bitch, I've bought almost all of those games in various sales. Of course I haven't played them yet either.
I'll do a dollar for vessel and hope the bonus later is good

Wow, that new HB looks nice. There's a few games there that I've been toying with buying on and off for a while. Definitely grabbing that.

Apparently the Indie Face Kick guys have a 'sale' on that bundle - the $1 price only lasts 36 hours - I'm still not buying it.

Hopefully not too many people bought Shatter and Rochard when they were on sale recently lol. It should be a CAG rule to not buy indie games on Steam when a new Humble Bundle gets added to the registry.

Alright so Shatter, Vessel and Dustforce I don't own. I had interest in Dustforce and I also get a Steam copy of Rochard (bought it off PSN).

So I am guessing Torchlight or Dustforce is the midweek deal. More likely Torchlight since T2 is coming out Thursday (maybe Torchlight as the weekend?) and then a HiB 6 next week?

Also LOL at IFK. I got an e-mail saying I could buy the latest bundle for $1 for one day only. It's still at like 188 sold

Apparently pc gamer has a dd store. Got an email for 20% off with code EOS2012. Havent checked to see what's on offer but figured I share

Nevermind, it's just old mags. So if anyone wants an old pcgamer, oxm or something else from future that code will work.

222 now which I predict HIB will do in the first 28 seconds and that's only because it'll take time for people to complete the checkout process.

Not only do I have 4 of the games in the new HIB, but I've actually played them. I'll probably go in $1 for Vessel, and up my donation when/if they add games I enjoy.

Edit: The site is now live, for those wondering. The BTA price started at 8.99. Kinda pricey compared to all other BTAs.

They've all been starting in that range and bottom out sometime in the first 15 minutes or so. I've seen this one hit a low of $4.95 which is quite a bit better than the last few.

Today's deal is the LEGO Indiana Jones series at 50% off. $9.99 each for one and two.
Man, so excited that the Midweek Madness is Magicka! That game NEVER goes on sale!
I know right. I bought 5 copies because this occasion is so rare and the resell value will skyrocket soon :)

Sweet Bundle!

Excellent selection. Although I already own everything in the bundle (except Vessel), I'm definitely grabbing it for the Dustforce soundtrack.
