Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Yes, the keys are for specific games that get tied to an account.. but I'm failing to understand how that would make it DRM. I used keys to activate Witcher and Witcher 2 on my GOG account.. would that make them not DRM-free? I'm lost.
I was under the assumption that you had to run the desura client in order to play the game (still in a Steam mindset I suppose). So that's not the case then?

No, it's not. None of the games require the client AFAIK. You don't even need the client at all. You can download all of the games from the site. The client is just a luxury, it helps notify you when games have updates that you can perform, helps keeps your games organized, etc.

No, there is no always online requirement. (except to download / install of course). Its just a games management / distribution service.
Sure, let's compare apples and oranges.

IFK. Promotes itself obnoxiously and tries to be the only limited-time indie bundle anyone would ever need in what has become a crowded market. Offers a fraction of the versatility of the other players in its market and has prices start at a premium.

GoG. Offers games no other online market carries, 24/7. Has frequent sales and free game promotions. Includes soundtracks and manuals and other extras with all of its offerings and a library view of all the games you own through them. Has yet to put out press releases that insult potential customers.

If they were at all similar, I'd admit that you've got me there, but the fact is that IFK is offering the bare minimum when it comes to value and trying to pass it off as an asset. When you add a game to your GoG library, you get significant extras and zero attitude.
Oh I'm sorry, I should have immediately understood that by saying "It's still appalling how they PROMOTE their bundle with the fact that they won't give you any Steam or Desura keys with the games." you really meant wasn't that at all and actually the fact that they have worse offerings of other bundles.

Silly me to think that when someone is complaining about how some company promotes and markets their stuff that they really aren't complaining about that. I am so, so sorry that I couldn't tell what the real meaning was. Or perhaps next time instead of raising a complaint about something that isn't the real complaint, seeing as how GOG does the exact thing you complain about yet somehow they are perfectly fine... meaning you aren't complaining about that.

You can say they are apples and oranges and they are since you decided to add a bunch of different crap that wasn't originally in your initial complaint. What isn't apples and oranges is your original complaint when comparing GOG and IFK.

I just want to make it clear, if I haven't already and I assume you will argue back since you clearly added random stuff to your complaint anyway, that you complained about how IFK promotes about no steam or desura keys, you know being DRM free, just as GOG does. Somehow things like their libraries, the amount of sales they have, their attitude, and bonuses they offer actually factor into your original complaint. What they have to do with how they market being DRM free is completely beyond me. You initial complaint, what I responded to, wasn't about the very core of how a company operates, but it was what they were marketing, which also has nothing to do with bonuses, sales, attitude, or anything you added.

I can agree that GOG and IFK are apples and oranges and are nothing alike, but what that has to do with your complaint I would truly love to know.

I see. I had that part misunderstood.

Chill out guys....

Can't we all agree the Indie face Kick bundle sucks and just talk about how much they suck? (I also heard their mom is sooo fat...)

My goodness, it doesn't take long for Humble Bundle celebration to turn ugly around here. My advice rarely gets taken, but I'm going to, foolishly, try anyway.

If you really want to examine DRM, think of it this way - If you can download it from your account, and that game doesn't require activation codes, phoning home, or anything of that sort, it's DRM-Free.

I think it's time for the Festivus "Airing of Grievances." Whine about DRM, whine about which Bundle provider you dislike the most, that's what discussion is about. Just be courteous; No one here is anyone's enemy. If you dislike what someone said, wait for the next page to cycle in. (It won't be long, I guarantee.)

^^Let this man speak!

On a different topic I saw the Kick Face bundle guys mama and she was sooooo FAT,
her BMI is measured in acres

Kaltic, I already clarified on the previous page. It has nothing to do with how good/bad the games are and everything to do with the fact that they want people to pay more money for fewer options (and seem to be trying to take pride in that fact). There is no reason for them to deny keys in addition to the DRM-free downloads directly through their site (when the games are on those other services, of course). Make sense?

Perhaps I'm the only one who's stoked to get the IFK bundle for $1, but then again, I love terrible games.

Honestly though, Hard Truck Apocalypse is awesome. It's a hot mess, don't get me wrong, but it's still awesome. Vehicular combat action RPG; nuff sed.

(The IFK download link is working fine for me. They even have a "download all" button, which is nice.)

And ironically enough, not really stoked at all on this HIB. I love casual/indie/puzzle kinda games as much as the next guy, but the HIB stuff is getting extremely predictable. I mean, Torchlight is awesome game to put in there, but almost EVERYONE has it either from getting it for dirt cheap on a sale, or free with TL2. Where's the games comparable to Amnesia or Psychonauts?

It's still a good bundle for a buck, but it's just not very exciting, and it's a big turnoff that most of the games have been on deep discount in the past. Still in for Vessel and Rochard, just expected more. :whistle2:(

EDIT: Nice to have a DRM free copy of Torchlight though.

I don't think anyone is selling the exact same bundle that Indie Face Kick is, and even if they were, IFK wouldn't be claiming that their offer of less options was better unless they actually addressed the opposition. What they are claiming is that not requiring steam is better than requiring steam, which is what some people think.

The absence of exerting effort (and possibly money?) to obtain keys is not necessarily the same thing as denying them. But apparently, for whatever the reason may be, their target audience doesn't care about steam keys. Do you get upset every time someone markets something that doesn't appeal to you? (that was a rhetorical question)

Other than Idiotekque (who bought IFK bundle at $1 sale, not the original $8+), who exactly is the target audience for IFK? (b/c at this point, Groupee has the indie bad games market cornered, :D )

B/c this is CAG....

EDIT: ninja' by Idiotekque, lol

apparently it appeals to nobody except their immediate family or something as next to nobody bought that junk
There's the problem. They don't have an audience at all.
Heh. Hey, I never claimed that their marketing strategy was clever. I was merely arguing that there is nothing offensive about it.

Technically, it was "offensive" (or at least bad form) to the people who bought the bundle at $8 to end up selling at $1 for the same bundle.

EDIT: But I get your point and am playing devils advocate

Yeah, I could agree about that part. Not in the sense that it was completely unacceptable, but I'm one of the people who bought Jade Empire the day before it randomly went on sale lower, so I'm no stranger to that annoying feeling.

I did that too. -.-

C'mon though guys, listen to this stuff. How can you not buy this for $1?
Experimenting with alternative power sources, the biophysicist Henry Alfred Cole found a way to extract the soul from a human body and use the soul as a power source. The soulless bodies however turned into zombies. Hellish creatures started filling them to change dramatically the essence of the host body. A daemon from a parallel world, Baphomet, installed himself in one soulless body and soon founded the cult of Lucifer. The aim of this cult was to open the gate for Lucifer to come into the humans? world. The number of followers of the cult increased at a catastrophic rate; Satanists all around the world were joining their ranks. The main hero is concerned with the fate of his missing friend, who had had a meeting with the leader of a satanic sect just a day before his disappearance. His persistent investigations become a threat to the Satan worshippers and Satanists start hunting after him. The creepy truth about the fate of his friend will reveal itself in the mansion of the biophysicist...
I can't bring myself to buy IFK for a dollar because most of the games are generic FPS games, the other, hard truck apacolypse, is probably going to be in the upcoming strat first bundle from amazon. I really feel sorry for anyone that spent 8 bucks on it.

I personally am not a big fan of desura. Yeah it keeps some games in order, but personally, I dl all my drm free games and keep them in their own folder. 3tb hdds are only 150 bucks these days, I only have a tb and that is plenty for now but I plan to get another tb for about 60 the next time I find a decent one for that price. Still have about 300 gb on mine and have about 125 games, 60 movies, and 5000 songs, not including all my porn ;). Steam is great because that is where most of my games are and I can easily delete a game if I need more space and know exactly where it is later. Either way, we shouldn't be complaining about drm unless it has activation limits. We all know IFK sucks and any other bundle is better. As I said before, this bundle ain't even worth a dollar.

On the other hand, this HIB was great. I literally looked at it, remembered spaz and torchlight, so I BTA for those two games alone. I had none previously. Very happy with my purchase. Paid 5.05. Still waiting on both The groupees bundles. The bob to see if they add more games again, and will probably only drop a buck on the ww bundle but I'd like to see how many other people are also waiting to buy them.

Their target audience does care about Steam, as we all tried to tell them after the first bundle -- hell, they do a lot of their advertising through their Steam group -- and the guy in charge was excited about how their next bundle was going to be completely DRM-free. A handful of us told him that most of his sales were coming from people who wanted the Steam option, but he either didn't care or was unable to secure Steam keys (probably both).

So I tried Borderlands 2 finally. Well here is very detailed and in depth review of the game.

It's more Borderlands.

Now yes there is improvements and such, but still it's fucking Borderlands. I also fucking love Borderlands and I love this game.

Well, if it didn't have Hard Truck Apocalypse in it, I would have passed on it too. That said, the Strategy First bundle looks like a lot of garbage for $12... I honestly was likely going to buy it just for Hard Truck Apocalypse and one or two other games. The 1C bundle, on the other hand, looks awesome.

I probably would have grabbed HTA for $3 by itself though, so I may not hold the popular opinion here, lol. If you're an old fan of Twisted Metal, Vigilante 8, and other car combat games, and an RPG nut too, HTA is a fun game if you overlook the massive flaws and learn to laugh at the horrible translation. Definitely worth $1.

(Be sure to copy and paste your own music into the game's music folders too. It makes it really easy for you to sub in your own badass soundtrack. Five Finger Death Punch and ESTK? Yes please.)
I literally looked at it, remembered spaz and torchlight, so I BTA for those two games alone.
I'd imagine it's too late now, but you do realize that beating the average only gets you Dustforce, right? Otherwise you can get just the 4 other games for $1 (or a penny if you don't want Steam keys).
So I tried Borderlands 2 finally. Well here is very detailed and in depth review of the game.

It's more Borderlands.

Now yes there is improvements and such, but still it's fucking Borderlands. I also fucking love Borderlands and I love this game.
Don't fix what ain't broke.

For me, what it comes down to is that the IFK folks pepper everything they do with heaping helpings of attitude, and it makes it easy to feel satisfied when the result is that they don't move product.

Next they'll be promoting the awesome fact that their bundle doesn't provide soundtracks.

It's not that I want them to do poorly. If this bundle had started at a dollar, we wouldn't be having this conversation. They just don't seem to have a grasp on what consumers value in a bundle, and their pre-discount numbers prove that.
That's funny that they have a steam group. Then, the target audience that I referred to in that post is the one based on the advertising shown on their website.

Why do you dislike Desura? Not enough golf games?

Did anyone else just get an extra, 2nd copy of, TL1 gift for pre-purchasing TL2?

Also, can anyone link where to pre-load SR3 for this weekend?

Glad I held off on buying those some of those indies because I got this HiB and alls I had before was Torchlight (from a trade with utopian) and Shatter. Good call on Rochard the other day, sunghost; I would've bit at the Daily Deal price if not for your impeccable induction.

edit: the key for Dustforce shows up in your account history as "Humble Indie Bundle 6 Beat the Average". I wonder if that implies more games to be added to it. It does mean one day in the future I'm gonna forget where the hell I got Dustforce from and searching that page won't help.
apparently it appeals to nobody except their immediate family or something as next to nobody bought that junk
Your username and avy is the oddest combo I've ever seen.
:applause:

As for BL2 I look forward to playing it in a couple years when the goty edition hits $7.50.

The new menu system is awful. Looking through my loot is frustrating and I much prefer the list system from first game. That said, the game is still awesome and the firefights seem much more intense.

Completely off topic, but watching the Shuttle Endeavour fly low over my house was a breathtaking sight.

A bit more on topic, playing through some of my backlog before Torchlight 2, I discovered I had Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It simultaneously infuriates me and brings a smile to my face. The supernatural enemies are bullet sponges who hit like hard trucks and that stealth level I was in a position where if I did nothing or moved anywhere I would get spotted, but when it opens up and lets you do some old school fast paced run/gun it's so brilliant.

And even more on topic, the Borderlands 2 options menu looks divine.

Oh, I think they look great and, other than loot, work perfectly fine. In the first game I could see all my loot at a quick glance and easily see rarity. Now, I can only see few at a time with rarity being indicated by a slight color fade at the top of the weapon pic. Scrolling through 12 weapons is annoying, let alone 42. They should have at least made the background of the weapon pic the rarity color. Minor quibbles though as I'm loving the game.

I am hoping some loving chap makes a mod to fix that menu system. It's my only complaint to this game so far.

Just say you beat the DLC. These guys will buy anything if it's free

I haven't seen any of the ingame menus, I don't own the game. I mean the graphics options menu.

Was hoping it'd be Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, but I checked the source and it's The Wasted Land which was in one of the Indie Gala Android bundles (but without the PC version, I think).

Still a good bundle, glad I held off on Broken Sword, and I'll be able to complete my Alien Breed collection.

It's not Humble Bundle quality of course. But for Indie Gala, it looks surprisingly good. I wonder why they didn't include Alien Breed 1 though?

This is because I purchased the Worms Complete pack during the summer sale and still haven't played any of them. You're welcome, everyone.

In for one during happy hour, Broken Sword 2/3 should go nicely with my free copy of the first game from gog. Also I've wanted the Worms games for some time.

Thank you, we couldn't have had this without you! :D

3rd'd on the BL2 menus. Why they had to make them so narrow is puzzling. I hadn't even thought of it until it was brought up here because I'm finding playing it multiplayer is sensory overload, and I haven't been looking as closely at my inventory as I do playing solo.
