Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I've played a bit of Half Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy over the last few days. It's all a bit... samey. I don't know what I was expecting but I don't think it was this. Every "level" is basically a 30-second puzzle where you need to beat the clock to kill the final boss.

On paper it seemed really fun. Maybe it's just me and I've outgrown games like this, but it just felt all a bit... bland.

There's no demo that I can see so I'd recommend you check out a few YouTube vids of it before buying (as luck would have it, I think TotalBiscuit is working on one now).
Stuff like that (and most indie games I'm not immediately dying to play a la Orcs Must Die/TL2) I've pretty much relegated to bundle fodder. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate those games that they're usually just a nice little creative diversion for three to five hours of game play.

One could argue the bundles devalue games but ultimately I'm sure the developers get a nice profit (otherwise they wouldn't do it) and I get to experience games like Rochard, Wizorb, Shatter, etc. that I probably wouldn't have given a second look.

This is a key point for me, too. There's plenty of indie gems in bundles that I otherwise wouldn't touch, so it works nicely. HMH:SMNCUB was an impulse-not-going-to-the-pub-Saturday-night purchase, which I semi-regret. It's worth a punt, just not at £6.99.

p.s. [JR]Damn you all, damn you all to Hell![/JR] - I've just pre-ordered Dishonored.

There is a demo for the 360 version which I assume is identical. Anyone with a 360 could try it out using that route. I did when the game was released and found I had 0 interest in buying.

If you aren't trying Rochard no matter how often I pitch its quality it's your own fault. I was excited for it from seeing reviews back when it was a PS3 exclusive and it did not disappoint.

Played through all of Rochard last week.

The style is charming, though nothing particularly interesting. The story is a bit throw away, and some of the characterizations are borderline offensive (Skyler's Indian Uncle that owns the space casino and the space police force's... flamboyantly homosexual qualities come to mind), but in a largely innocent way.

The combat is kind of terrible, and becomes a heavy focus in the latter half of the game. I found the combat frustrating and dull, and really hurt the rest of the game.

That aside, however, the puzzles in the game are fantastic. They're clever without being frustrating and include a nice mix of timing and conceptual execution.

I really just wish it had been nearly all puzzling, because the combat really does drag the rest of the game down.

But it's only 3-6 hours long, and is totally worth a playthrough.

Also, everyone who thinks that Borderlands 2 is a good game is completely wrong and any fun you were having you must have imagined.
Good god hipsters have invaded the video game community; mainstream is bad and wrong, the only games that are good and that I play are the ones you've never heard of.

So he's a troll then, guess it's a good thing most forums have an ignore function.

I hated Borderlands before it was cool to hate Borderlands. I'm so ahead of the curve I realize now that to be a proper counter-culture hipster I have to LIKE Call of Duty.

You should enjoy the ignore feature of CAG. I ALSO find all forums more pleasant when everyone who has an opinion not like my own is blocked from my sight so make with the ignoring and your day will be unbothered.

Hipster as a term just needs to be retired. When you have hacky sitcoms on a station for senior citizens like CBS even making fun of hipsters, the whole thing has collapsed in on itself.
So he's a troll then, guess it's a good thing most forums have an ignore function.
I guess I'm not sure why RollingSkull disliking Borderlands means he can only be a hipster or a troll.

It's also possible he just genuinely doesn't like Borderlands.

Right?

While I don't always agree with RS, he is far from a troll denouncing all mainstream games. I appreciate his sometimes differing opinion and honest take on games.

It's that time again, isn't it?

The monthly Steam thread ritual of defending RollingSkull's right to his tastes in games.

Let's stoke this a bit, then.

RS, tell us how you feel about Limbo!

;)
Good god hipsters have invaded the video game community; mainstream is bad and wrong, the only games that are good and that I play are the ones you've never heard of.
The industry hasn't quite matured to the level of movies or something but video games have really opened up as a medium and there are so many quality games where now it comes down to taste, just like movies and books and music.

Also, if you are attributing counter-culture solely to hipsters then you sir are a bigger fail than anyone else.

RollingSkull may voice opinions in a way that sparks heated debate, but he's not all bad. I mean, I don't recall him ever coming into a place he's never been before and, as his grand introduction, calling out one of the regulars there based on a single statement he just overheard. You know, because you can't exactly pin down someone's personality that way, and if you did have that ability, exercising it won't endear yourself to everyone else. So yeah, RS's got that going for him. I'd buy him a drink.

Are you feeling OK?

I'm very disappointed Amazon couldn't get their XCOM keys out in advance. That download is going to take quite some time on my connection.

Definitely won't be playing it til tomorrow afternoon.

Honest question, what did Amazon offer that made Xcom seem like a better deal than GMG?

And I try and fail many times to ignore stuff in threads that turns it directly toward me. I don't like the idea of entire pages of the Steam deals thread built around the novelty of my tastes in games so I am gonna try to resist now.

I had a gift card.

If I'd been paying cash, absolutely GMG was the better deal.

You can use both in some cases. Some mods can be pretty crippling so I'd start with the official pack, and work your way up. The official ones are easy enough to disable if you can run the game with the better fan textures.

Amazon offered $15 in promo credit I believe. I bought from Steam so I could get Civ 5.

Amazon only had the 5$ price break, but later added Civ 5 to the deal as most pre-order retailers did, as well.

GMG if you ordered at the right time you could have come away paying 37$, getting Civ 5, and getting a 10$ promo credit.

I opted for Amazon as I had credit there, however.

There's nothing wrong w/ liking Call of Duty!
I like COD series - though, I think it definitely did hit its peak back at COD4: MW.

BTW - I like both COD and Borderlands.
[shrug]
Tempted to rush over and grab one, but I have a very poor track record of playing betas before the product releases. Sitting on my hands...
Same here. I'm always interested in the game, but I get my key and never get around to actually trying it out.

I remember playing the hell out of COD4 when it came out. There was just nothing else as tight and slick like that.

Haven't played another one since, though.

Not a fan of the multiplayer (or most competitive multiplayer, in general, to be fair) and could never justify the high price for such short single player campaigns.

Hour and a half long Civ V flash giveaway on Steamgifts starting soon. Just a heads up in case anyone's interested. Bought XCOM but already have Civ V, so the key's pretty useless to me.

I passe on the beta too. I never played the War of Roses beta... lol.. played Ravaged beta the other day but servers were all dead and the game didn't hold my attention.

Yeah I didn't touch the WotR beta either despite having ample time and interest. I think it's more exciting to get into one than it is to play the game...even though betas are thousands upon thousands of people now.

Damn, I'm sure there is a joke to be made here but I'll leave it to the pros.

But yea, COD4's multiplayer was amazing. Everything after that was downhill but I had alot of fun in college playing COD4. I would probably buy it again if it hit $10.
