Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V5! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

This is a Wiki post. Please read this
We appreciate you helping keep this thread up to date. The sales change virtually every day so no one person has the time to update them all. If you notice a game is no longer on sale, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see a game is on sale, add it to the list. Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.
for instructions on updating the thread.

Preorder Deals - Updated 10/28
Group Buys - Updated 8/14

Several multiplayer Steam games are available in 2-packs or 4-packs. These packs offer a discount over buying multiple copies of a game separately. We also maintain group buy trade threads for several games, so please use those threads if you're interested in setting up a group buy.

Free Stuff - Updated 4/3

There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card.
The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Obviously nobody is playing MP anymore, but I'm more interested in the campaign. Any good for $3.75?
It's alright, I would think it would be worth that. I really only got it to test my hardware, and I would pay 3.75 just for that.

Whored out myself to Gamestop for The Walking Dead. Bastards did not give me my key in the email so I have to use impulse. Oh well. I guess I should buy one of the comic book compendiums in the mean time while I wait for ep 5 to start.

What makes it good for that? Enemies onscreen? Shadows? In ingame tool like Capcom's?
Looks like the original Doom 3 version has been taken off the store and replaced with the more expensive, BFG edition.
Yeah, that news been making the rounds on major gaming website for news.
Only way to get Doom 3 [Original] + Doom 3: ROE [Original] from Steam is through the Id Super Pack ($100).

Was it Dark Souls that people said was a terrible, shameful port? Or Darksiders II? I know it was one of them Dark-somethin's.

Edit: Looks like it was Dark Souls, judging from Google.
Was it Dark Souls that people said was a terrible, shameful port? Or Darksiders II? I know it was one of them Dark-somethin's.
Dark Souls, the dev had no experience with the PC. In fact, I heard that they thought people used actual live mice and cardboard with keys poked through it to access the internet and play PC games.
American Nightmare is overpriced wherever you go. It's one of those games where you get locked in a time loop and end up replaying the same few levels repeatedly while fulfilling different objectives, which is a nice marketing ploy to artificially increase the length of a game when you haven't produced enough game content. Mine was free, but I wouldn't pay more than $5 for it; it's disappointing in nearly every aspect in comparison to the first game.

Also, it's Gamestop.
It was also $3.75 somewhere. I can't remember where it was but I know I bought it for $3.75 and steamprices.com can confirm.

BOTH were slammed by many PC gamers b/c of their lack of PC features.

Dark Souls is supposed to REALLY take the cake, out-the-box (unmodded).
Many consider Dark Souls PC as 1 of the worst ports of all times b/c of flat-out laziness (locked at 1024x768 resolution; locked at 30 FPS; controller pretty much required to play it)....

Personally, I think Bully PC is the worst port I ever seen - b/c it just can be HELL just get running right. My Win XP would never run it (patched or unpatched), but Win 7 PC had NO PROBLEMS running it (patched).
I'll be able to see what I think of Dark Souls PC, once it goes on sale.

Durante's DSFix Mod has fixed most of people's Dark Souls PC concerns, though - namely w/ unlocking the resolution to...whatever you want.
Might wanna NOT use frame-unlocker feature or any program disabling G4WL when playing online - as that could cause a G4WL suspension/ban.

Weird. Bully ran without problems for me on PC back in the day (retail, $5) on my WinXP, X2-3800, 7900GT rig.

I wonder if popular verdict places the PC Port of Dark Souls worse than the PC Port of Saints Row 2.

DS was the signature bad port, but D2 was very shoddy in its own right. It only had two options for display, resolution and shadows, I think. The menus are console res. And you can't click on the map to fast travel you have to scroll a retilce over the target destination.

Some cheesy review site, ign maybe, reviewed DS:pTD including Durante's mod! They praised the sharper visuals and gave the game review scores as if the patch was part of the vanilla game. SMH

Bah! Steam keeps removing the items from my shopping cart. I'm assuming this is a problem with the update from today. Anyone else getting this issue? Near as I can figure it's around when I'm putting the 5th or 6th item in the cart that it does this.
The only reasonable deals on there are the Dead Space games and Alice Madness Returns for $5 each. I didn't see any good deals on Steam games.
Metro 2033 seems like a good deal for 4.99.

I think it's worth it, especially if you like the movies. There are a lot of small details that I like about the game, like how the sound effects for the alien screams and pulse rifle shots sound straight out of the movies.

I wonder when the Halloween sale will start. It started last year on the 27th, which was the Thursday before Halloween. Tomorrow will be the equivalent day. I recall there being a sale at least the past 2-3 years.

Dark Souls port was bad mainly because of the internal rendering issue. But thanks to this mod the game now looks amazing rendered at high res.

The one word of warning I will give for DS for the PC is, the m/kb controls are pretty bad for it, one of the very few games I actually use a controller for on the PC.
This will be my first Steam Halloween sale. Have they generally been pretty good the past few years?
Not really, Steam's Halloween sale isn't really special, at least with the 2 previous years. Basically just a few days/week of horror/scary type games being on sale at a fix % off price with no special daily deal.
How is AvP?

I liked it but then again I liked the old games and it's a lot like them. Story? Eh. MP? Eh. Three different styles of gameplay and some fun mechanics? Yup. If that's worth 3.75 go for it.
This will be my first Steam Halloween sale. Have they generally been pretty good the past few years?
There is a plus in that a lot of the horror-themed games that go on sale are priced lower than in the summer/winter sales. The selection isn't the best, but the prices are pretty good.

Is there a big Steam sale before the year is over?
I'm not sure if this is a joke...
I'm not joking.

I built my gaming PC last month, so I just started on my Steam library. I've purchased the majority of my games via GMG and Amazon DD thus far. I'm still not that familiar with whatever sales Steam has throughout the year aside from the Summer and this supposed Halloween sale.

The biggest sale of the year is the Winter sale that will be at the end of December/beginning of January. Lasts about 10 days.

My suggestion since you are just getting started is to look at steams big bundles, pick one or two, save for the winter sale, and buy them. During the winter sale those bundles can go for outrageous prices. I piecemealed it which is fine but not the cheapest way. With some googling you can find the sales from last year.

EDIT: Speak of the devil. I found this http://compsimgames.about.com/od/gamingtips/tp/Steam-Holiday-Sale-2011.htm
Is there a big Steam sale before the year is over?
Steam has 2 big sales before the end of the year right now. First is the Black Friday one that they call the Autumn Sale. It is only for 5-7 days but is good and then we have the big daddy of them all, the Holiday Sale which last 10-14 days. Starts around Dec 20th and ends a few days into the new year.
The new Indie Royale should arrive in a week, too... unless they start their Halloween bundle after Halloween!
Teasers for the Groupees Halloween bundle:

The Bundle of the Damned

5 Games

 • Game 1 teaser: Retro, Rpg (Desura + Steam’s Greenlight)
 • Game 2 teaser: It’s Cold (Steam)
 • Game 3 teaser: Painted Dreams (Steam)
 • Game 4 teaser: Can’t See (Desura)
 • Game 5 teaser: After Dead (Steam)
There will be a Horror movie in this bundle.
http://www.bemineslugs.com/2012/10/23/groupees-halloween-bundle-coming-soon/

So far, to me, Cryostasis (It's Cold) and BlindSide (Can't See) are sure bets. The retro RPG might be Breath of Death/Cthulhu. My guess for "Painted Dreams" would be Anna, because its developed by Dreampainters, however it's a somewhat new release on Steam so I don't know how likely that is.

EDIT: Breath of Death/Cthulhu confirmed NOT to be in the bundle by ShiftySlug.

EDIT #2: Added platforms (Steam/Desura)

EDIT #3: My updated guesses
1: Manor of the Damned (EXTREMELY likely)
2: Cryostasis (VERY likely)
3: Either Anna (developer is Dreampainters), or Drawn: The Painted Tower
4. BlindSide (EXTREMELY likely)
5: No idea

I think Anna is possible. It has some pretty bad reviews and it seems its not selling much :/
Bioshock 2's DLC is only available through the GFWL store, right? Are there ever sales?
I'm only discussing Single Player DLC, since the multiplayer is dead anyhow.

There's actually only one up that can be purchased. Minerva's Den is $5, and The Protector Trials is Free and can be downloaded at once. Both are for Bioshock 2. There was a PS3 exclusive Challenge Room DLC for Bioshock 1, you'll find that only on PSN. Be sure to backup the temp folders that GFWL is using, since it supposedly deletes them after it installs (it didn't for me, however I hadn't installed the base game yet). So if you wanted all the Bioshock DLC you could get for PC right now, it's only $5, and from the reviews of Minerva's Den, it's worth every penny. So in summary:

Bioshock 1 DLC: None on PC

Bioshock 2 DLC: The Protector Trials $0.00
.............................. Minerva's Den $5.00 (Games for Windows Live MarketPlace)
