Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Mine was No Doubt... Don't you judge me.

Hmm, what to do. Keep playing SR3, buy FTL and start playing that, wait 2 hours and bitch about the new flash sales or freak out about the GG Bethesda madness...

Decisions, decisions.

Why not do all of that? ;)

Huzzah!! With my vote in the current customer choice, I just completed all the tasks on my Christmas badge.

I was kind of expecting to see a slightly different badge if you complete all the tasks. Say, a tree with Christmas lights instead of just that tree with snow on it. Turns out there's no difference at all. It's just the same tree that you get if you only do 4 tasks.

So if you care at all about the badge, and you find yourself unable to get the "Shopping Trip" task done, don't worry about it. 4 tasks is just as good as all 6. Same badge either way.

I don't have time to read back through the almost hundred pages...

Am I the only one that is currently purchase-less for this sale? Nothing has been like ZOMG must buy. I was debating Grimlock but that's about it.

Motoki, we don't have another Coconut Queen this year? Cause I played the snot outta that game.

Yeah, I was a little bummed that nothing changed when I completed the sixth task. But oh well.
Just throwing out a recommendation for Space Marine before it's gone. I got it from amazon in the THQ medley pack for $5 after coupon, but Space Marine was the only game I didn't already own. I am completely blown away by the production values on this game. The graphics are great and it is just FUN in a totally shallow way. The enemy designs are super repetitive but I'd definitely recommend it even at $7.50.
I just picked it up in Amazon's THQ Medley as well, but I haven't played yet. Does anyone know if any of the DLC is essential?

Mission Runway?

Though I admit, that one is more of a true trainwreck vs I bought this game because I sounded completely ridiculous but it turns out it's quite good (Coconut Queen).

Anyway, if it helps justify it, Mission Runway is in the $5 Family Gaming Pack with Puzzle Quest, which is actually good, plus some other random assorted stuff like a Mahjong detective game.

Mission Runway is this year's Coconut Queen, it would seem.
My first concert was Pat Benetar.
Either you were a fetus or this concert was at some broken down casino with 6 people in the audience.
My first concert was Pat Benetar.
New Kids on the Block. When they were actually kids... or at least closer to it.
Dammit, now I definitely want it.
But its 20$. : |
I really should get off my ass and play it, since I did buy it and everything recently.

I'm addict so I bought all of if, even the god damned Katie Perry Cupcake Bra Pack, but definitely some of the expansions are better than others.

Between Ambitions and Generations it's kind of a tough call because I like them both but I think I slightly lean toward Ambitions because I like being able to play the careers, instead of just shoving them off in the car to disappear for work.
Did you get a deal?
I think Faith No More in Philly in the early 90s was the first concert I ever went to. Good times.
At the Tower w/ Helmet opening? That was a great show.
Either you were a fetus or this concert was at some broken down casino with 6 people in the audience.
The Polamnesia tour, early 2000s or something. Was in a really nice concert hall, and since I live on an island and people don't get out much, it was packed full and people were freaking out. >_>

That said, she's still got it. Neil Gerardo does too.
The dildo bat was something I outgrew very quickly, though I did have to show my gf just for the lulz

Upgrading your pistols to highest rank though, with the explosive bullets, made the game so much more fun for me.

Was there ever a STALKER game in a bundle? For the longest time, I kept thinking I owned one of them, but they're not in my library. Probably just confused it with something else.

I'm always left scratching my head whenever people talk about a flash/daily selection "taking up the spot" for a supposedly more worthy title. Does anyone actually think that another game would get an additional discount were it not for the photo editing application being there? Before the sale starts, Valve works out the discounts with publishers. Either the game is on sale at its best price for the full duration or it's given a worse price initially and then showcased at the approved sale price once or twice (or more) during the sale. Anyone who thinks one of their wishlisted games could have appeared cheaper had Valve decided to put it into a flash sale isn't grasping things right.

Although I will concede that being showcased as a flash/daily gives a greater possibility of an ephemeral pricing error getting through as when Terraria was $2.49 right after release.

YES! Those books presented a far more perilous Mario world than the games or cartoons ever did. If I recall, they were based off of the Mario comics, including the characters of the king and his adviser. Wooster, was it?

Please vote for Giana Sisters. It'll be $4.97, and it looks like an excellent game.

What sweet deals did work cause me to miss today?

Ted Nugent.
New Kids on the Block. When they were actually kids... or at least closer to it.
Well now I don't feel so bad about No Doubt. At least The Vandals and CIV opened for No Doubt.

NKOTB was the jam back in the day. Then Judas Priest. I don't remember any in between :p And you can talk sheot but you WEREN'T in touch with the 80's if you didn't jam to them. Just like C&C and Vanilla Ice. All part of the time period.

Thanks Motoki, not at all my thing but I already on PQ1 and 2 on different formats (and I agree a well done series).
I just picked it up in Amazon's THQ Medley as well, but I haven't played yet. Does anyone know if any of the DLC is essential?
No. All DLC is for Multiplayer. I like the DLC, having it is fun, but I wouldn't miss it if it were gone. BUT YES, Space Marine is freakin' SWEET. The chainsaw sword is stupid fun in the co-op players vs. bots mode.

I'll always be grateful to New Kids on the Block for bringing us Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. I still can't enjoy The Departed, because every time Mark Wahlberg tries to act all hard, I keep thinking "good vibrations!"

Yep, that was exactly the concert, at the Tower Theater.
Did you get a deal?
On The Sims 3? I got most of it for 75% off back in March when Showtime came out and the rest I just picked up recently on this sale. I just got Seasons and Supernatural at 50% off because it took them long enough to get on Steam and have no clue when the next sale on them will be.
Well now I don't feel so bad about No Doubt. At least The Vandals and CIV opened for No Doubt.
Yeah, well I don't feel bad about Kansas, now get off my lawn!! :oldman:

so
i'm thinking about:
FTL
ARMA 2/ day z
warhammer space marine
sleeping dogs DLC

anybody have any thoughts on these games/ the prices of these games
Also the loot in BL2 is nowhere near as unqiue as the loot in BL1.
I know this was from about 50 pages ago, but it showed up in my reply box so wth. You crazy! The guns are a lot nuttier in 2, especially with the eridium-ammo ones.
I doubt they're going to change it now. This software's been around for a dog's age. It was one of the first PC-compatible photo editors I ever used.
Yeah, shit I've been using ACDSee since my 386 days (I think); and I still use ACDSee 32 as my primary, quick image viewer.

Evidence of even further laziness this year! I just happened to notice that there are different badges from last Winter, based on how many achievements you did.

Finally, first concerts? Sure. Nine Inch Nails back in 94/95 with the Jim Rose Circus opening. I came home with teeth marks on my back—and I was wearing a jacket during the show.
Hey I just got Sleeping Dogs off of GMG a couple days ago. What DLC is recommended? Or would i be best to play through the main game then pick up the DLC?
?

I think Warhammer Space Marine gets a little repetitive after a few hours, but it's still fun to play if you take your time and don't marathon it.

I haven't played the others.

Beat the game first. Then if you like it, Nightmare in North Point. But it's really short, like an hour ish.

Since there have been so many other Sims 3 questions, I might as well add one. I'm a new player, is it worth it to pick up the Showtime bundle, or would my money be better spent on other expansions? Thanks! :)

FTL was awesome... until it wasn't. Still well WORTH it.
Arma 2, I wasted money on. Didn't work on either of my comps once I got DayZ installed. Couldn't resolve.
Space Marine is a good once playthrough. I didn't particularly like the GoW aspects though so yea.
Sleeping dogs, never played. Sorry :whistle2:(

I think Showtime is a decent expansion. It's got a celebrity/fame system along the lines of the old Sims 1: Superstar expansion, plus you can play out the performing careers. But if those aspects don't interest you as much Ambitions and Generations are good and Seasons reportedly is too.

could you please elaborate on the "until it wasn't" part for FTL

Any favorites? Aside from some easter eggs like Blockhead off of the Creepers, I haven't found guns that do anything more unique than fire multiple rounds, and a few E-Tech AR's that have ricochet. (Ignoring the obvious Conference Call that everyone has.)

Well, it took me two hours to get the Humble Bundle soundtracks in order. Cave Story+ and The Basement Collection were a mess. Now I'm going to try to get an hour of Darksiders in.

Since no one messaged me for it, here's the key to Binding of Isaac + Wrath of the Lamb DLC.

FTL lasted me about 24 hours. I paid... 5 bucks for it? That's chump change in game terms. And I'll probably go back to it again later (when my completionist kicks in). Normal is just unforgiving though so you'll have your ego handed back to you.
First concert was U2/Jay-Z. Not bad.

Is LA Noire worth it for 3.74?
I think the complete edition has two additional cases.

It's good, just play it like episodic content, one case at a time. Otherwise the whole "look for clues, interview people, chase down suspect" aspect can feel seriously repetitive.

Now I'm really leaving.

I really liked LA Noire but I found the interrogations confusing some times. The choices aren't always really clear as to what you will say after you press a response, at least to me.
Then it'd pay to try the demo (if there is one) or watch a gameplay video or two.;)
Yeah lol I always watch reviews and pay attention to the comments, good and bad. Thanks for the comments fam.

Bought 30 Flights of Loving. Debating on expending some serious cash on updating my Sims 3, with Super Natural, Seasons, and Pets. I *really* shouldn't be paying this much for expansion content. I have got to talk myself out of this. Maybe I could just talk myself down to SuperNatural and Seasons....pets doesn't really seem all that great. Horses would be a complete waste on me.
