CAGiversary!

Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

yacht part, with the knife guy and the heavy gunner, and not much cover... chapter 13, I think?
... and I was stubborn and refused to change the difficulty even after the game asked me if I wanted to, ha.
I had the same issue at that part! My stubbornness just would not allow met to change over to easy. I think I had to re-do it about 10 times and when I finally got past (with great relief) I didn't really have much trouble after that. The game was pretty great, perfect length IMO.
My only complaint was
the fact that it forced me to launch the white Phosphorus at what I knew were non-combatants in the river/gully past the soldiers. I understood the need for it to happen story-wise, I just don't like when games take control away that much.

Anyone else playing Sniper: Ghost Warrior?
Think of it as a CoD: Sniper Ops wannabe clone [although more brutal], and your expectations should be about right.

It's not a bad title. You can tell it has some "polishing" issues that I would expect the 2nd game will iron out. AI is super accurate [which breaks immersion at times], but it also makes the game more difficult; so if your playing a stealth mission, it forces you to go all out stealth.

Overall, I will probably buy Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 when it hits a $5 price point :D
Yes *that* part in Ch. 13 is the one that sticks out in my mind. Yes, I stubbornly pushed through it on normal. Nothing else came close. Yes, it kept asking me, multiple times.
I got asked "Shouldn't you lower this?" a couple times during a firefight in some museum gallery. I think it was a gallery; I remember square granite pillars and small sculptures on bases. Dudes kept tearing me apart. I stubbornly refused to lower it though -- sucking just made my game longer and gave me more value per hour! ;)

If it makes you feel better:
The game opens with you on the helicopter. Everything up to that point is you just playing through your own flashback. So you didn't really choose to use the phosphorus, your character did prior to you entering the story and you just had to play through it as part of your past :D

Since SteamGameSales.com is pretty slow, you load the game page on Steam then wait for it to show up. :) I might add a "Hold on fetching the lowest price..." to it before it loads.
Lovely!

All the relevant price trackers I know are in my sig. SteamGameSales is the slowest. IsThere any deal is another multi-site price tracker, not quite as slow. The Camel is Amazon only (there are other ones for Amazon). The other two are steam only.

Yeah I looked at a few others. SteamPrices.com was faster, but it only includes Steam (not other places) AND they don't actually have the "lowest historical price" listed in any consistent manor on their page. IsThereAnyDeal.com seems to only display games that are currently on sale, it doesn't look like they have any historical data (that I could find).

So basically, SteamGameSales.com wins by default (for now)

I honestly it was like 20 times or more for me. (Though some of those were experiments at being more reckless.)

Game
Yeah, I understand why they needed to force the white phosphorous use (nasty nasty stuff IRL). I spent a bit looking for another way. In retrospect maybe that could have made a they could have made it a bit more of a false choice, if you don't use it you die (sun/heat/ambush/completely outnumbered).

http://steamsales.rhekua.com/ lists the lowest price on steam is a really obvious (and probably easily parsable) wya.

http://isthereanydeal.com/ lists (in text) the lowest historical price. When looking at a game on the front page list, there are a few options that show up under the game name when you over over it. "History" is in a dim-blue.
Example: http://isthereanydeal.com/#/page:game/price?plain=witcheriiassassinsofkingsenhancededition

One downside (for me) to IsThereAnyDeal is how it also tracks Nuuevm.

I think it was 2 or 3 times at that part for me, I had lots of problems with
the final firefight, right after you hit the mortar tower with the RPG it saves so when I died and reloaded, I found the weapon I had put on the ground to pick up the RPG, my beloved 4x rifle was lost so I had difficulty taking out the mounted machine gunners with an RPG and a machine gun
and regarding "that major part"
that you have "no choice" is kind of the central point. Throughout the game Walker justifies his actions by claiming everything he has done up to that point has been Konrad's fault, but as Konrad points out, he shouldn't have been there in the first place, he could of left at any point per his original orders to locate the survivors and leave Dubai. The player blames the developer for putting them through this gut wrenching experience when they had the choice at any time to just end the mission and shut the game off, no one forced them to commit virtual atrocities, they chose to continue on.

You actually CAN choose to try to do it the conventional way, but it is doomed to failure. You can shoot and kill a soldier on the ground an attempt to whittle away the enemy, a firefight ensues, but after enough time has passed, snipers climb up and get the high ground on the buildings to your left and right and cut you down. The only way for the mission to continue is to wipe them out quickly with the white phosphorous before they can organize a counter-attack.

Is there any deal is SOOPER DOOPER slow for me but I realize that may be a YMMV sort of thing

And yeah, I 'ed at the Nuuvem tracking, which will also throw off the lowest (legitimate) historical pricing in some cases.

It (re)released at the worst possible time. During the winter sale. Totally got lost in the (non) hoopla of the sale and by the time the sale ended the 50% new release discount was already over.

Good points!
And thanks, I wasn't aware of that "option" at the white phosphorous. Iirc, I was simply unable to move forward.

I remembered another tactical tip.
Shoot (or was it grenade?) the sand in front of enemies for a temporary screen.

I'm admittedly horrible at FPS games and I even died several times in Max Payne 3 and Spec Ops the Line on easy :(

I'm not really a huge fan of FPS games, and I was only playing those games for the story so I think it was still worth it!

I had to eventually drop Darkness 2 to easy as well; in some areas where there is very little cover, I tended to die in just a couple hits without a good sense of how to progress. Oh well. Great game and enjoyable comic book story regardless.

I've tried to sign up for this a few times now and keep getting "Not Enough Steam Games" when I go through verification. I've set everything in my steam profile to public and waited half hour. Refreshed the Gala page etc. I have 195 steam games - I know it's not a lot compared to some of you guys.. but come on! lol
Sorry that it won't work for you mate, I was surprised that I could sign up myself because those sort of things usually don't work well with me (for instance the steam game calculator doesn't work with my profile for some reason)
The biggest letdown is that every room is basically,"Hey there's a bunch of guys!" so you hide behind a wall and shoot a bunch of guys only to enter the next segment which surprise has a bunch of guys you need to hide behind a wall again and shoot.

Sounds an awful lot like Gears of War.

GOD DAMN IT :bomb:

The Jagged Alliance bundle sold out on Indie Gala.

I meant to get it too but I thought I had time because the countdown had two more days left. :whistle2:(

I find it funny that the guy selling those Bethesda keys for ridiculous mark-ups lowered his prices, but also lowered his additional discount for buying multiple games. Classic.

They ran out of Skydrift keys (which were $1 minimum with the pack). Once it hit SD, I knew it wouldn't last the full time. I'm also disappointed they took off the Disciples III pack (even though they're crap games).

yeah by $1 they're still double what their lowest sale prices have been.

I grabbed the Jagged Alliance pack for Skydrift quickly because I figured the deal for the DLC at 75% off + voucher on GMG wouldn't last another day anyway.

Although the first page has the "lowest price" information, referencing the page directly it isn't listed, meaning I would have to provide my own logic for deciding which is the lowest. For example: http://steamsales.rhekua.com/view.php?steam_type=app&steam_id=97000

IsThereAnyDeal also doesn't have a way to reference a game by it's Steam ID, which is something I would need to do programmatically to make it work.

I think it's in poor form that CAGs can't call other CAGs out who are selling games for too much. Allowing CAGs to use that thread as a flipping point gives new CAGs a bad impression. That thread has always been a place to help other CAGs get games cheap. Plus, it's highly entertaining to read responses- especially, when it involved the legendary Falcongamer.

OK I've updated Enhanced Steam to v1.5 which has the price history information included.

NOTICE If you already have this installed, you will need to open your Extensions page and RE-ENABLE the extension, since it now has a new permission to www.SteamGameSales.com

If you don't like or don't want the pricing info, it can be disabled in the options. Rest assured that if you disable the option, it will NOT make any web requests to SteamGameSales.com

So apparently there was some crazy Arma II bundle multiple discount stacking price glitch that we missed. How did this happen? I don't even want it but price mistake? I'm there! :p

Of course it kind of depended on owning some of those games already to get the 90% off so that would count me out.

In other SPUF news, people are panicking that THQ pre-order games will get bought be EA and yanked off of Steam.

Part of me almost wants to pay the crazy expensive pre-order prices for Company of Heroes 2, Metro Last Light and maybe even South Park in the fear that they might get yanked before they make it in but maybe they'll honor pre-orders?

Yes, I'm being neurotic but I don't want to miss a window to get games on Steam. :p
