Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Don't mind me. I'm not nearly as funny as I think I am.

Better luck next time. ;)

But seriously, blame the fact that it's nearly 4AM and I haven't gone to bed yet. My sarcasm detector doesn't work this late.

Half minute hero -40% $6 -> now $3.39
Arma Combine Ops -40% $18 -> now $15
They Bleed Pixels -66% $3.40 -> now $2.50

Actually not too bad, Half-Minute Hero is an awesome little game, so is They Bleed Pixels. ArmA II isn't bad but I paid that like years ago.
30 half minute hero -40% $6

Arma changed to -50% or $14.99
Half minute hero -40% $6

Half minute Hero is a lot of fun... But it's far more suited to portable. Super short game sessions make it great for bus rides and stuff.
So I have heard good things about Lone Survivor. $3.29 a good price?
It was in HIB V, I'm sure you could find a better price. Try looking around and somebody could help you with it.
Did anyone else have any trouble getting an Xbox controller to work in Binary Domain?

I tried the demo, and in the setup area where you configure the controls, the trigger buttons wouldn't register.
Goddamn somebody else finally noticed lmao. Yeah apparently there is a problem with getting 3rd party Xbox controllers to work with the triggers...have yet to find a solution of any sort. killerthrust is most likely using the official controller. Port is shit really.

Picked up Scribblenauts for my sis. Actually looks like I might wanna keep for myself after watching a few reviews, but those Nintendo characters are WiiU only anyways.

Really hope Beyond Good & Evil gets chosen, tho I doubt it. Help a CAG brotha out lol. Been on my wishlist and seriously thought about it even at $6 and even if it is not that great of a port. It was always highly-touted last-gen and I never got to play it on my 'Cube.

& what's wrong with Chivalry? Lol. The more people buy it the better, pretty much why I wanna buy it now while the community is strong. & I wanna chop some mf heads off.

Good looks on Alan Wake's American Nightmare too. Don't care much for it but had about 2,500 blue coins sitting there, so why not.

Well I was up anyway looking into the cool new Amazon promo. Guess these Flash sales are pretty good but Half-minute hero - bundle material for me.

Half-Life Complete is finally $10 (75% off). Totally grabbing that. The items from the pack comprise almost half of my wishlist. Now I need the Oddboxx to drop to 75% off.

Picked up both Pixels and Half Minute Hero, even though both seem like games that are just going to appear in a indie bundle down the road.
anyone have an strong opinions for or against dead island?
everything I see about about it just seems pretty neutral
I've tried it in 4-player and 2-player co-op. Preferred 2 players. 4 was too chaotic. We ended up splitting up into two teams and just wandering around on our own, occasionally seeing someone go flying by in a truck. Kinda like Borderlands in that sense. Everything involving money in the game seems pretty dumb. I don't know what you're supposed to be doing with money at the workbenches - taping it to your bat? Or why Wayne loves to buy that boat oar I keep stealing from him...

I was playing the gun specialist, and we had just found a gun the last time we stopped, after 8 or so hours...so the game might be really huge. Not sure about that.
Sometimes I hate the steam sale. I am sitting here with the Two Worlds Collection in my shopping cart, fully prepared to buy it...and I really have no idea why. I have very little interest in the game (the tower defense one looks kind of neat maybe?) and yet...I am going to spend two lunches worth of money on it.

What the hell.
I can relate. (Sure, we all can.) I was looking excitedly at that scribblenauts amazon deal, and their dark souls deal. I don't know if I want either of those, or when they'll get played. Especially since I settled for just restoring my demon's souls character to life and 'quit while I was ahead.' Luckily, I was able to let the DAO deal slip past untouched. I should probably be waiting for $5 on any of those games.
Half minute hero -40% $6
Arma Combine Ops -40% $18
They Bleed Pixels -66% $3.40
The first and third of those sound intriguing, based on...nothing? Time to go investigate, and weigh their bundlability, I guess.

EDIT: Just looked at some trailers. And some revised prices. I could maybe do HMH, but definitely can wait for a bundled TBPixels.

As much as I want They Bleed Pixels, I can't help but think it'll end up in a bundle at some point. It's at my buy price too. Decisions..

Do you need it on Steam? It's been an Ubisoft store flash sale for $2 before (when I bought it), and is on sale on GoG once in a while for cheap. Even if it misses the steam sale, it will likely be on sale somewhere again sometime soonish.

Skyrim hidden flash deal at 50 percent (DLC too). Half Life series at 75 percent off. Likely another day's flash going off at the same time. might be a third.

I've passed on Chivalry because I don't think this laptop can run it (lolintegratedgraphics). Is it pretty spec-heavy?

Yeah, it's on the higher end... especially since it's multiplayer and you're going to have a lot of people running around.

No, to answer, but I'd definitely prefer to have it on there lol. I don't really use GoG but have it bookmarked for reference.
No rush to get it either, but it'd be cool to have on Steam for $2.50.

Chivalry uses the Unreal Engine, looks pretty damn slick.

I would like to add there is 0 chance that Steam or the pubs are going to have something up for a community choice sale and not have it show up in a flash or daily sale.

The community choice is a lie.
So I have heard good things about Lone Survivor. $3.29 a good price?
I'm at work this morning for a half-day so I've brought my laptop in to play a few games on. Lone Survivor was one of the low-spec games I was really looking forward to playing.

I'm ashamed to say that I got stuck after around 15 minutes.
Skyrim hidden flash deal at 50 percent (DLC too). Half Life series at 75 percent off. Likely another day's flash going off at the same time. might be a third.
Ooo, might be time to pick up Dawnguard finally, for mod compatibility.

And yes, judging from last sale, very very likely Beyond Good and Evil will show up at 75% off at some point.
Ooo, might be time to pick up Dawnguard finally, for mod compatibility.
Really? You need the expansion for some good mods? Going to have to check that out and rethink whether I want to buy Dawnguard.

Not very often, but an occasional cool armor mod or vampire mod requires dawnguard.

Half-Minute Hero changed to -66%, and They Bleed Pixels to -75%... maybe wait a little bit more and get the former at -75% and the latter free? :booty:
Seriously though, I'll wait just until near the end to see if they decide to put HMH at -75% and then I'll bite... I don't mind if it will appear on any bundle, game's really too fun to pass at this price :)

They didn't "change." The first minute or so of flashes they appear on the front page with their basic discounts, and people jumped the gun reporting them.

Is Half Minute Hero the PSP version of the 360 version? I ask because the graphics are nicer on the 360 version but the PSP version had a lot more random stuff (bestiary, etc) in it.

That's what I thought :)
Speaking of jumping the gun, has there ever been a case of a game that got even more discounted before its offer ends? Or maybe something that was "flash/daily deal-ed" once and then discounted again towards the end of the sale?
I'm asking to make up my mind and seal the deal at -66%, knowing that they usually don't discount games any more if they appear as flash deals... please, help me reason with my inner cheap self who still refuses to click the "buy" button! :bouncy:

You can switch between the old and new graphics. My understanding is if you use the old graphics you get the PSP stuff.

I never played the 360 version and beat the psp one, but I think almost everything is in there.. Aside from the Another goddess room, Music box(hero 3) and the Valhalla knights 30 not being there in the pc version.

Edit: I was delusional about the beastiary xD.. Not sure why since it was in the goddess room.

It's the best of both worlds, as far as I know: they restored the old extra modes from PSP version, but dunno if they kept also the art gallery, bestiary and the like and can't seem to find anyone on the Interwebs that could confirm or deny that...

Last summer Saints Row the Third's complete pack was much cheaper the second time the game was on sale. It was a really weird discount so a lot of people assumed it was a glitch, but it stayed up. There were also a couple lost community votes that appeared as flashes at a slightly greater discount (I guess blaming losing the vote on the low initial discount). But as a rule of thumb it's pretty rare.

Nice, I was hoping HMH would go on sale -- just wish that it was 75% off. Loved the PSP version and didn't get the 360 version because of the modes that were cut and didn't find the new visual style appealing. Now it's time to decide whether to be a true cheapass or just buy it.

It has all the content from the 360 & PSP version except:

-Another Goddess Quest
-Music Player
-Goddess Room (Beastiary, art, etc.)

So it's the stripped down 360 version then. Okay.

Thanks or posting about Oblivion now if I should get They Bleed Pixels. It looks like a game i'd realty like but for all I know it could be in an upcoming humble bundle if not one of the extras to be added in the current bundle in a day or two.....ugh decisions but i'm kind of leaning toward it maybe I can trade my 2nd copy key to somebody else for something really cheap.

I think the 360 version took out the game types other than the first of the four modes, and the PC version brings them back.

I hate buying those games and then they come in a cheap bundle... Not sure if this game was popular enough to be in one, but could happen.

If there's one thing I'm hoping for it's that Defender's Quest is NOT included in a bundle anytime soon. I've just bought it and it's fantastic. I'm not in any way a Tower Defense nut but this is really well done.

Watch it get added to HIB7 now

It's a shame that the Half-Minute Hero sequel was never released here

Just posted this in the Amazon thread, but cross-posting here for fellow Dungeon Siege & Shoot Many Robots fans!

On a side note, anyone who only needs the earlier 2 Dungeon Siege games on Steam (previously only available in the Steam bundle with Dungeon Siege 3), Amazon now carries those individually as well! I was so excited to see their listings and Steam tag after waiting for over around 2 years for this kind of option that I bought both and redeemed them just now. I'm probably going to start playing some of the first game now in celebration!

EDIT: Individual links may be broken, so use the complete bundle link and then navigate to the individual items in the pack.

Complete bundle link: http://www.amazon.com/Square-Enix-Dungeon-Bundle-Download/dp/B00APOVDG6?tag=cheapassgam08-20

Dungeon Siege 1 Link: http://www.amazon.com/Square-Enix-Du...f=dsvbl_item_1

Dungeon Siege 2 Link: http://www.amazon.com/Square-Enix-Du...im_sbs_vg_dl_2

Gamestop has a Steamworks Shoot Many Robots listed at $2.49, but Amazon might match it if enough people ask about the game. The game is a freaking blast to play in co-op and single player with random loot, leveling/xp, multiple difficulties, and a hilarious sense of humor and style. It's the equivalent to a simplified Borderlands 2D game semi-focused on leaderboards and challenges. Definitely worth picking up if you have some interest in this.

Your links are broken.

I remember playing a couple hours of DSII and loving it so I've been waiting forever for the complete collection to be cheap enough, but if what you say is true, I might jump on this instead.
So it's the stripped down 360 version then. Okay.
No, it has the 360 modes (ex: different Evil Lord is like Hero 30 but on a huge map) and the original PSP modes (Evil Lord is kinda like a RTS).

Should be available via dlc soon I would think.
