Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

I stopped playing mount and blade for these.... tomorrow better have some damn good sales.
What to vote for community?
Edit: miners wars has to be 75% bc its already 50% off :p
Tomb Raider Collection 75%
Jet Set Radio 66%
Spirits 75%

Also new community vote.

Towns
Miner Wars 2081
Giana Sisters
I just bought Giana today on GMG with 30% off of the $8.99 sale price + my Sleeping Dogs $6 credit.

It's actually a lot of fun. Like Mario but updated. The whole switching between worlds mechanic works well too. It's simple but something that hasn't really been done for a while, at least not to this level of professionalism.

Terribly disappointed there aren't more Tomb Raider games.

What will I do once I've played through all 9 of them?

Valve should do something about this.

Tomb Raider Collection is mine. Glad I never bought any of the Tomb Raider games during previous sales. Yay, my first purchase of this sale! I want Spirits, but I won't buy it because bundle.
Also new community vote.

Towns
Miner Wars 2081
Giana Sisters
Please vote for Giana Sisters. It'll be $4.97, and it looks like an excellent game.

Tomb Raider Collection is a good deal, the rest aren't. Sucks that the choice for Giana Sisters isn't 75% off.. I'll probably pass on it due to that.

I hope Giana sisters gets the next vote, that along wit hthe new Kings Bounty are the two games I most wanted to get from this sale

Both the earlier Tomb Raiders and the Legacy of Kain games are GOG versions if I'm not mistaken. So expect them to mostly work well on modern machines but know that you may have to jump through some hoops to get a controller working or the proper resolution etc.

Giana is worth $5. They did a really good job with it. It doesn't look or play all junky half assed indie.

Just pretend the retail is $20 and it's 75% off.

Alright, Giana Sisters gets my vote. Hope it works out for you guys.

Spirits has already been in two bundles, and Towns was in a bundle as well. I voted Giana since it's the only one I'd likely pick up out of the three.
I don't care about the choices. What should I vote for?
Giana Sisters. ;)

Voted, and yes it does look good!

F yeah Jet Set Radio! Oddly enough this is the one game I've been waiting to go on sale. Would've preferred 75% off but I'll bite.

New round of community/flash sales is pretty intriguing actually. Voted for Giana Sisters, I won't buy it but it looks really great.
Vote Giana Sisters. Also, try the demo.
Done and done.

They added a Christmas level for Giana by the way. If you don't play it now there will be no point in playing that level for another year then. ;)

Speaking of Legacy of Kain, I hope they get the bundle discount treatment as well.

If someone wants just one Tomb Raider then I'd recommend Anniversary as you can scratch that nostalgic itch while having the benefit of more modern niceties.

I have a problem with Soul Reaver in that I own more versions than any one person should.
That's pretty cool. Reminds me of when I played Pirates Adventure (text based adventure game) and had stacks of scratch paper with hand drawn maps and notes. As much as I kind of miss those days of "gaming", I'm not all that sure I could go back to it. ;)
I find text games still possibly to go back to - the graphical quality hasn't degraded at all! And I still have my notebook of comprehensive maps of Planetfall!

I finished that The Room for iOS game. Pretty fun, and quite short. Got a gift of Pendulo's Yesterday, and I still think I'll pick up a KOTOR 2. Jet Set is interesting, but I've been doing a good job of skipping things that are just somewhat interesting...saving even more money that way!

Unless you're Orthodox

...or your parents switched to Orthodox at Xmas so they could get your toys cheap at the after Xmas sales.

Remember that the Dreamcast Pack is going to be $4.99 on Amazon starting tomorrow. Consists of: Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, SEGA Bass Fishing, Sonic Adventure DX, and Space Channel 5 Part 2. All games activate on Steam, AND you get $5 promotional credit towards any downloadable games in January. So it's basically free!

OMFGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG I just bought SA1.....

Dammit, planned to buy They Bleed Pixels when it was on flash sale and then got busy/forgot about it. It $2.50 anywhere else, by any chance? :p

And I don't know any of the games up for vote, so time to look them up.

Considering the fact that the three oldest (in Steam-Life, that is) Tomb Raider games have been available for 4-5 years, it might have been prudent for Squeenixidos to offer up a "Tomb Raider Classics" pack for I-VI. :(

I thought the promotional credit only applied to a select list of "editor's choice" games, the prices of which are unknown. Calling that basically free is quite a stretch.

Exactly. Everyone I know that had any interest in Tomb Raider has them (the "old" games) by now.

Yeah, I'm a bit pissed that they aren't offering a pack of the classics when they know a ton of people already own at least one or more of the 3 that have been on Steam. If they had just a classic pack for $10 I'd buy it, hell I would even buy the pack they are offering now if they gave me extra copies of the 3 I own but they don't so I am not buying any of them.

Eh. If you use the credit, then, yeah - the Dreamcast pack was basically free. If you don't, it's still a hell of a compilation for $5.
