Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Definitely wait on Retro City Rampage - it's a $5 game at best IMO. It's more or less a Family Guy episode ramped up x1000 focused on as many 80s references to movies and NES games as possible. Enjoyable in that respect, but not actually that great a game, sadly.

Games like Fallout and ES are as linear as you want them to be. The main quest line isn't hidden away to be discovered, so if you want a linear experience stick to that. Now, the main story itself may leave something to be desired, but if you just want that linear experience that's what you get. The side stuff is really the meat to those games, helping flesh out the world and assist in immersion.

Man, Tropico 4 barely won the community choice. While I'm happy that it won the majority vote for 39%, to see ANNO 2070 at 34% (with SimCity 4 dead last at 27%) has me worried... who votes for these things anyway?

Be thankful. The voting has been pretty stupid all week.

FWIW If anyone is wondering most of that Tropico DLC with the exception of the Modern Times expansion is pretty meh and doesn't really add much to the game at all.

Finally got in on a decent flash sale for Dead Rising 2 Complete for $9.99 which is exactly the price I wanted to pay. I'm happy with that.

I've never played any Tropico before. Videos on YouTube make it look like SimCity, and I already have SimCity 4, but for $6.00, I might still grab it.

I got Tropico 3 in a previous sale, but haven't played it yet. Should I get Tropico 4? My mind's tellin' me no, but my body's tellin' me yeah.

I voted for it, but I've made a solemn vow not to buy Tropico 4 until I've played at least one of the previous three games, all of which are in my backlog. By that time, I figure they'll probably be up to Tropico 6 at least.

It's basically Sim City but with a campy, kitschy Latin American dictator spin.

I think it's a lot of fun and it's one of the few games in my vast collection that I've put a ton of hours into. I mean what other game lets you play as Evita Perone?

If you like Sim City style games I would highly recommend it.

All of the DLC save for Modern Times is literally 1 new building and a new costume for your Avatar. If you weren't looking for it you wouldn't even notice anything new was added. Don't feel discouraged by the DLC.

Modern Times does add a lot of new content but it only comes into play later in the game, as the name would imply. You start out at an earlier time period, 1950s I think? Or maybe the 30s? Sorry, it's been a while since I played but anyway it's a while before you can access the Modern Times conent.

I think it's reasonable to just get the base now and then if you like it try and catch Modern Times on a sale later.

Do note though that this is one of those games that if you buy the base on Steam you will pretty much need to get the DLC on Steam too so don't think you can grab it later on a Gamersgate sale or something like that.

I like cement, plantador, and military packs to get extra bonuses for the workers.

I'm hooked on my sombrero so I don't use the items with each pack

I would say no. Just go and play T3 first and if you like it, buy T4 in the next sale.

I haven't bought a whole lot of games myself, since I've become really mindful of my huuuuge backlog of unplayed games. All I've bought (and prolly will buy) in this sale is SR3 Complete. And I'm pretty sure I won't be playing that for at least a year... damn :p

I do like me some SimCity, so I think I'll get it eventually, but...
Borderlands 2 on the new round of Flash Sales - that's good news for people with the $5 Amazon 2k credit assuming they price match.
Tony doesn't PM flash sales AFAIK.
Amazon generally doesn't match flash sales.
I haven't been following the Amazon thread much, just been casually glancing at their downloads page, which now has a bit of a "calendar" of what is going on sale. That thread seems to be full of whiners.

Sucks if they won't price match the flash deal, considering it'll be that price for the next 11 hours or so. I looked this morning at my 2k credit thinking... "I already own all of these games".

Hopefully AC2 in the vote means entire franchise or at least includes AC:Rev which is the only thing I've planned to grab this sale.
Im I the only one sick of seeing borderlands 2?
I'm sick of seeing it not be $10 or less. ;)

I kinda sorta kinda want it in some vague I probably should get this someday I guess way, but like the people who can't pull the trigger on Tropico 4 because of Tropico 3, I have Borderlands 1 GotY and haven't really touched it yet.

Plus there's the whole 'well you know they are going to bundle it up with all the DLC cheap someday' thing.

But yeah, it does seem to have been on sale a lot, along with a lot of other repeats.

Understatment of the year.

Wow. I KNOW thief has been much much less. That's an insult for that price. And I'm pretty sure Home has been less as well. Starting to actually believe this might be the decline of the Steam sale.

I was 100% ready to buy Tropico 4. Now though, the lack of any kind of a package deal with the expansion/dlc is making me reconsider.

Since you already have it, you really should play Borderlands 1. I have both, and I actually prefer the first one - way better menu system, story, etc etc. Skip BL2 unless you're a huge fan. I have about 55 hours on BL1, and love it. I pre-ordered BL2 (and the season pass) but I'm having a hard time getting into it.

You're misremembering. 75% off at these base prices is the cheapest Thief has been on Steam, though it's hit this price a couple of times.

Lol thanks :p It's hard staying rational with all these bargains flying around. Stay strong, brother!

I beat Dishonored last night with a low chaos nonlethal run and all I want to do is go back and play it again. If I end up shirking all my other games I'll probably do a high chaos stealth kill run. Definitely one of the best games I've played this year.

Yeah, I've heard lots of good things about BL1. It's been on my to do list forever.

Sometimes in spite of having a bunch of well regarded games on my mental 'to-do' list I just sit there and stare at my games list and get '57 Channels and Nothing On' syndrome and think 'I don't know what the hell to play'.

It's a sickness.

Wow, that is a great description of how I usually feel as well :p

One possible cause I can think of might be that most of the games I like (and own) take a lot of time to get into. And time is something I'm kind of short on supply on. Take skyrim, for example. If you play it for just an hour you don't really feel like you've accomplished something. When I have like an hour or so to play something I usually spend it staring at my list as well. Durhh!

Good point.

Why can't there be a rollercoaster game with poorly rendered, low poly, low res textured (not so) supermodels?

And coconuts.

 nice. Sometimes what I do is if there is a game or two I know I want to play soon, I create a new list in Steam and add those few games to that list, then collapse the rest.

And that's the way I like my Borderlands. :D

Finally something we agree on. :)

I didn't care for Borderlands all that much but I don't really play a lot of co-op games. It's overrated as a single-player experience. Also, the resolution to the story is exceptionally lame, even by video-game standards.

I think what happened is the prices hadn't updated yet. So I was seeing thief at $15 or so and possibly home at higher than current sale price. Outrage is revoked, everything is good.
Voted Assassins creed 2, hoping revelations will go on sale if it wins.
Same.

Additionally, I'm patiently waiting for 1pm when that Wireless Xbox controller for Windows goes on Amazon Gold Box. It was on my Christmas wishlist, but nobody got it for me.

On a mostly unrelated, but hoping the Humble bonus gets added soon, note,

I finally watched Indie Game: The Movie last night. (On Netflix; not Steam)

The bearded dude with the wife and creepy cat was cool but the other 3 I just kept wishing someone would drop a refrigerator on.

What a bunch of self indulgent, narcissistic divas!

Reminds me of the modding community, except there was no pay and far less respect.

Why the hell did I do that again?
