Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

If you have a 2K coupon from Amazon, it's cheaper there. There's also a pack with Stronghold, Civ IV, Civ V, and Gods and Kings for $19.99.
Ummmm, are you looking at THIS Steam sale?

We're really depressed of the quality of this Steam sale.

Not that it's bad, it's just not "WOW I GOT A DEAL!"
Quoted for truth--this is exactly how I feel also.

Been a great year for gaming anyway though!!! :D

Cheers and happy holidays,

DA

Interested in Solar Empire but have a few questions.
1. Confirm that this does not require a base game
2. If I never played these games, should I start with the first one?
3. Is the online community dead?
4. Where the hell is the original game?
Can we expect a FarCry 3 sale?
Let me channel the Steam gods for you. They say no, just to spite you.

What do you guys think of the Left 4 Dead bundle? Worth getting? How is the community on there?

You do not need the original game
I played this one first and it was fine, definitely a difficult learning curve though
I play with friends so I cannot answer this one
The original game isn't on steam because it is other the publisher's own DD service, I think with rebellion they started putting their games on steam.

Be warned, it is a hard and difficult game, think civ 5 but not turn based and all of the AI's are great at turtling.

1. Confirmed

2. Absolutely no need, Rebellion is the only one you need. There are no campaigns and it has all the content of Trinity along with the new Rebellion things.

3. Not sure since I don't play online, but I'm under the impression it isn't.

4. Trinity is the original game with expansions. Again, you don't need Trinity at all if you're buying Rebellion which is sort of SoaSE 1.5.
Not that it's bad, it's just not "WOW I GOT A DEAL!"
After a certain point, there is a point of diminishing returns. It is hard to get blown away when you already own a bunch of stuff and some of the same games have bottomed out at a given price.
Civ V GOTY is $12.50? I need to remember to buy that when I get home.
GMG will have the expansion for $4.5 on Sunday
You're thinking of Gods & Kings, the expansion.
That's why he said the DLC. :p

EDIT: He switched it to expansion. An expansion pack is still DLC, is it not? o_O

Jesus, never mind. I confused myself.
That's why he said the DLC. :p
He edited his post, originally he just quoted and said that "it" would be $3.5 on GMG, which sounds like it meant the GOTY.

Ooh, well that makes sense. Sorry for my intrusion. :bouncy:
Ya, I was going to pickup Sins Trinity, but after reading what Squee stated, I think I'll just wait for Rebellion to hit 75% off.
If you get in on a 4 pack it is 75% off :p

So, Torchlight II is now at 50% on GamersGate and I'm torn... what are the chances that it'll be discounted even more (66-75%) before Steam sale ends? It has already been halved two times on Steam, but third's the charm and maybe this time I'll bite...
So, Torchlight II is now at 50% on GamersGate and I'm torn...
Gamersgate. Uh, yeah, Good luck with that.

Is there anywhere that's keeping track of what's already been a daily/flash deal? Thinking about some of the Total War stuff GMG has going on but can't remember if Steam's already done a Total War special (which they always do) or if that was someone else.

In all seriousness, Gamersgate had Dead Island GOTY at 75% off today for $5. Seemed like a reasonable enough deal to be legtimate.

It wasn't. It was yet another price mistake. They meant it to be 50% off and the system mistakenly doubled up the discount.

Will they revoke it for people who got it? Probably not because it's not super high profile and the difference wasn't really that much but at this point who knows?

Their Torchlight 2 could legtimately be 50% off. Or it could be a 25% off sale erroneously doubled up by their glitchy system.

If you guys feel comfortable buying from them with their constant mistakes and their lousy communication and about faces on what they said they will or won't do then go right ahead.

can someone post what the full price of the assassins creed pack is? I can access it at work.

Also im assuming the contents are

Assassins creed 1/2/3
Brotherhood
Revelations

Is there anything else such as DLC for any of them??

And is Just cause 2 a good game??
Gamersgate. Uh, yeah, Good luck with that.
Well, to be honest I've already bought Dark Messiah of Might & Magic and Titan Quest from GG over the past few days, and got a refund for the infamous "Dishonorable Bundle" (PayPal already confirmed it, even though it has yet to be credited on my card), so I've got nothing against them at the moment... still, thinking about it, the discount is nothing special even taking into account a further 5% off from the IAMANELDERGEEK code and I'm sure the game will come back with at least the same reduction on Steam, so I'm still holding back...

My wallet can let out a sigh of relief after yesterday's overtime, I guess... now, let's wait the next batch of flashes...

saints row 3rd full for $7.50 for another 45 minutes, but it was $2.50 after coupon so recently on amazon for the same thing, i just cant bring myself to pay more than $5 for it(it will surely be cheaper than $7.50 for this bundle on the summer sale?)

Price mistakes have been happening for quite a while now on GG. These few recent occurences are the only time they've acted on the mistakes. Of course, this doesn't contradict what you're saying, but I just felt like it should be mentioned that they've honored price mistakes many, many times in the past.

The franchise pack isn't discounted, just the individual games:

Assassins creed 1, 2, Brotherhood: 75% off
Revelations: 66% off
Assassins creed 3 and season pass: 25% off.

That bundle was already on the flash sale (23th), but considering the price gmg is just 3 dollars more expensive (with the coupon) so I grabbed it from here (not the bundle, every single game)
Gamersgate. Uh, yeah, Good luck with that.
I was thinking of getting torchlight 2 from them today too, even though I already passed on it on steam, just because I'm stuck with a sack of blue coins. For some reason they're taking a little more time to refund cash purchases...
Wow. I would of bought that from you. I am hosting a 4 pack in the trading thread but you make me have second thoughts. Probably will be $7.50 soon.

Is it just me or is this the worst steam sale yet?
I was looking to buy in to a 4pk but I can't seem to find your thread.

I have been waiting for a 66%-75% deal on the first two DeathSpanks and World in Conflict for at least two years. Unfortunately, Deathspank is published by EA and World in Conlict by Ubisoft, so I'm not optimistic about any future sales.

Just Cause 2 is excellent.

Before a million people say it's worth the price I'll say I didn't particularly think it was that good. I liked the visuals. The unlocking world was cool. However, the gameplay was a bit too arcadey for my tastes although, perhaps erroneously, I was expecting more ARPG style combat. Got sidetracked with other stuff and never actually finished it. Certainly not a bad game, just not for me.
Lol @ Snapshot for $2.50...
So many wasted flash sale/daily deal slots when the Humble Bundle is still around. If I were the devs for any of these games, I'd be embarrassed.

As crazy as it might seem, they're still gonna sell a bunch of copies of these games that are in the Humble Bundle. There is still a whole bunch of people who are steam users who have never heard of any of these bundles.

This is what really irks me. There's stuff like Deathspank that's sold for $7.50 each (more than DEADSPACE!) that could use one of those spots. Or Rune Classic or Hero Academy or no end of semi decent obscure games that don't get dailies/flash.
