Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
Pure craziness. Steam is now operating in a vacuum.

For anyone that doesn't understand this conversation, go here. http://www.humblebundle.com/
I've been wondering about this all sale as Amazon in particular trounced them in price. I suppose with millions of users there's still a good percentage that probably don't go on forums or know there's options other than Steam.

Even the King's Bounty sales are tepid. Almost positive they used to sell that stuff at 80% off, $5 for Platinum Edition, etc.
There's a 5 game Daedalic bundle for $27.20 that includes both Deponia and the sequel. Was thinking about picking it up the last day if there are no further discounts.
Yeah...price a lil' steep for me.
You should have looked at GOG's 5 games for $10 last month. I basically got all the Blackwell games for $2. (And To The Moon, Unmechanical, Resonance, and Botanicula)
Damn that's a good deal. Need To The Moon. Can't navigate GOG for shit tho.
Even the King's Bounty sales are tepid. Almost positive they used to sell that stuff at 80% off, $5 for Platinum Edition, etc.
I don't think the Platinum Edition was ever that low. Steam tends to bottom out at 75% for most things.

It's been a pretty long sale thus far; kind of hard to believe we still have another week :D [the 5th is on Sat, encore on Sun?, sale ends Mon the 7th?]

I finished up Coconut Queen, and found it really enjoyable.

Did I miss something, though?

Or did they just lay down a lot of foreshadowing that never got answered as a joke?

There are two different endings. One of them is for just doing the required stuff, and one is for doing all the side missions. Neither of them answer all the questions. It was all supposed to lead to an eventual sequel that will never happen.

I had had to restart the rocky level and clear as much as possible as soon as it stats, because after a few minutes it locks it out.

There is a cut scene ending and a dancing ending on the game maps. There are bugs getting one or the other. My steam profile has screen shots of the whole thing if curious.

The sequel would have the Kumquat King with servant women farming the land.

I did all the side stuff before finishing, so I got the blowing up the volcano and then watching everyone dance ending.

I'll check your profile to see the other one.

*Edit: Pantsattack pretty much covered the deal with CQ in a nutshell. Too bad there will be no Kumquat King.

Yeah there are two Coconut Queen endings, the dancing one and the cliffhanger story one.

I only ever got the dancing one. :(
I was thinking of getting torchlight 2 from them today too, even though I already passed on it on steam, just because I'm stuck with a sack of blue coins. For some reason they're taking a little more time to refund cash purchases...
I thought about it just to drain out the last of my BC's and get the cost down to $8 or so but I'd have to buy some coins in some weird amount to make up the difference and I can't be bothered to make the $1 transactions. Obviously I'll be damned if I'm going to buy $10 worth of BCs and wind up with MORE coins in my account.

Should I vote for Arkham City in the community choice? Everything that's up for voting has been on sale for a while at Amazon.

Wasn't Arkham City already a daily deal though?
Wasn't Arkham City already a daily deal though?
They've all been daily deals as far as I know. Batman and Darksiders for sure, and Dark Souls was a flash deal if it wasn't a daily.

Yeah Batman and Darksiders have been on sale alot. Dark Souls will be still be cheaper at Amazon to if it wins. I voted Dark Souls cause it hasnt been on sale on Steam as much. IDK this one sucks.

That actually makes me very sad
That actually makes me very sad
For it to work these days, it'd have to be a FPS with a lot of morally ambiguous choices.

In fact, just play Far Cry 3 and pretend that you're the Kumquat King and Citra is the Coconut Queen and you'll be 90% of the way there.
I feel like we just sit around here with beers waiting to talk shit about the next set of flash sales lol.
Pretty much so. Pass me a Bell's or Great Lakes Brewing Co. Brew. :D
does the GOTY edition comes with the Kings and Gods and Cradle of Whatever DLCs?
Nope that will be the eventual complete edition that will be released TBD.
Gods and Kings will be $3.15 on Sunday from GMG

edit: http://blog.greenmangaming.com/ says 85% off, plus 30% coupon code = $3.15
Wow, that's a deal! :applause:
I miss the cultural takeover of cities in Civ 4 a bit more. Unless that still exists in Civ 5 and I haven't seen it.
Me too and religion (but that was added with G&K).
Christ on a bike. Civ 5 GOTY. What DOESN'T come in the GOTY edition? I assume Gods and Kings does not. Anything else not included in the GOTY?

I swear to God. When I buy a Game of the Year edition, I anticipate getting everything. Now we're got to go and fuck that up! That's right! I said Shaq-Fu!
It seems that unless it is a "complete version" with CIV you can't be sure it has everything.
Once again, I'm a little disappointed in the daily deals. Would it kill them to do a 75% discount on Assassin's Creed: Revelations? It's over a year old already... :p
They used to drop their prices FAST! Exactly, what does Ubisoft think they're Capcom or Activision? *gasp*
What do you guys think of the Left 4 Dead bundle? Worth getting? How is the community on there?
It's a good price but you only really need L4D 2 since all the levels from L4D are now in 2 along with the characters.
In all seriousness, Gamersgate had Dead Island GOTY at 75% off today for $5. Seemed like a reasonable enough deal to be legtimate.

It wasn't. It was yet another price mistake. They meant it to be 50% off and the system mistakenly doubled up the discount.

Will they revoke it for people who got it? Probably not because it's not super high profile and the difference wasn't really that much but at this point who knows?

Their Torchlight 2 could legtimately be 50% off. Or it could be a 25% off sale erroneously doubled up by their glitchy system.

If you guys feel comfortable buying from them with their constant mistakes and their lousy communication and about faces on what they said they will or won't do then go right ahead.
Oh Gamersgate
I finished up Coconut Queen, and found it really enjoyable.

Did I miss something, though?

Or did they just lay down a lot of foreshadowing that never got answered as a joke?
I did also and it was fun. There are two endings actually.
It seems strange you'd give the one that doesn't tease a sequel to the people who put the most time into the game.
I agree.
Should I vote for Arkham City in the community choice? Everything that's up for voting has been on sale for a while at Amazon.
I voted for Dark Souls because it has not been a daily yet (I think) and many people seem to be masochists.
Before a million people say it's worth the price I'll say I didn't particularly think it was that good. I liked the visuals. The unlocking world was cool. However, the gameplay was a bit too arcadey for my tastes although, perhaps erroneously, I was expecting more ARPG style combat. Got sidetracked with other stuff and never actually finished it. Certainly not a bad game, just not for me.
+1. I loved the narration, but didn't care for anything else in the game. The world thing reminded me of Legend of Mana. It wasn't bad at all, but it also wasn't my cup of tea.
Pretty much so. Pass me a Bell's or Great Lakes Brewing Co. Brew. :D

Or Short's, or Founder's.

Let's just agree on the dominance of Michigan breweries.
So I want some opinions on here....

I have heard great things about FTL. Do you guys recommend it?
I have never heard anyone not recommend that game.
I have never heard anyone not recommend that game.
I'll not recommend it. I backed it on kickstarter, and was hoping for more of an RPG with tactical gameplay than a rogue-like. I probably had false expectations for it, but I wasn't too impressed with it. It's hella hard, and while I've never won, it feels like everything is purely chance, with no skill involved. I know others will disagree, but I can say I didn't like the game.

*shrug*

/Random Internet Opinion

I bought it on the daily. It is amazingly addictive and fun, but not easy.
Or Short's, or Founder's.

Don't forget Frankenmuth, New Holland, Jolly Pumpkin, Odd Sides and Dark Horse. (off the top of my head)

Those are tasty ones also. It's not complete and utter dominance though.

Great Lakes, Hoppin Frog, Thirsty Dog, Rockmill, Columbus Brewing, Barley’s Brewing, Fat Heads and Jackie O's. (off the top of my head) All make some fine brews.
Is LA noire worth $5? or will it be $3.75 during the summer sale?
Honestly, I'd be surprised if it ever sees less than $5. That's my personal opinion, so I could be wrong, but I suspect that since it's a big name title from a big publisher, it's likely to stay at $20 retail, and never see more than 75% off in a sale.

But again, that's just my opinion.
Is LA noire worth $5? or will it be $3.75 during the summer sale?
LA noire is garbage at best its locked at 30fps since its designed for very old computers not modern computers, would expain why the game got stuck in development hell like DNF and we all know how that turned out, same with LA noire. Its a bargain bin game at best since it is so old it never supported fps from the last decade.

Wait for it to show up in a humble bundle.

Also it has rockstar DRM that requires the Social Club. its worse than uplay in that for most computers it does not work and is broken meaning most people never get past the start screen because of the forced signin which may or may not work. As rockstar support told me, there are over 100 articles on the issue for me troubleshoot. So dont count on them fixing it.

If it's not a game you don't plan on playing immediately, then you can wait.

As for me, I bought LA Noire for $5 way back and thought it was great! If you want to wait 6 months for the possibility of a $1.25 drop, then go ahead.

LA Noire is notoriously hard to get running... I always, always get games running when they are hard to get working, and I seriously gave up on LA Noire. The next step in getting it working was reinstalling my operating system. No kidding.

Rockstar doesn't know what the hell they're doing with PC ports. At least MP3 is a sign that they're actually trying nowadays.

That too. The 30 FPS lock is bullshit.

It's not going to be in a Humble Bundle though, lol.

my guess is that L.A norie complete will be $5 instead of the base game in the future instead of a drop in the base game price

Do yourself a favor - run it in DX9 mode; was smooth for me in DX9.
It's terrible in DX10+ Mode. The framerate just...will go all-over-the-place, for God knows what reason.

Max Payne 3 is definitely a great PC port.
Same went for GTA: Vice City, as well - as that ran even better for me than GTA3 did, back in the day on my same rig (old rig!!!).

well you talked me out of l.a. noire on pc (have it on ps3 and love it)

hmm, i am looking at getting the complete version of la noire on amazon for $7.50 because i think it should come with a $5 coupon on a january 2013 purchase. i already bought gods and kings for $7.50 with a $5 coupon from amazon on black friday, i wouldnt mind having a second $5 off coupon. my backlog is pretty silly already, i can hold off for another year or 2 tho. thanks for the input

Nope, I had the problem where when the game was launched, absolutely nothing would happen, ever. There are like a million different things to try to fix it. I tried 999,000 or so and gave up. Not worth it for a 30 FPS game.

Not much reason to get it for the PC if you already have it on the PS3. 60 FPS, I believe, is a good 66% of why PC games look better than console games. You're not missing out on anything by only having it on the PS3.
