Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

100% yes without hesitation, especially at that price because it probably won't hit that price again by itself.

Sorry thought you meant G&K.

GOTY upgrade?

Eh

Civ III has a bad rep. I'd recommend FreeCiv for the classic CIv 1+2 experience.

From what I understand, only if you like playing scenarios. I'd be interesting in hearing more answers to this.

YES. it adds a lot of civs(each civ have their own advantages, their own music, just adds a lot of replay value) and there are 2 other expansions included(they were OK, i prefer the base game to be honest)

As I said, G&K is actually at a better price than that right now :) $4 something at GreenManGaming, then use their 30% discount and it comes out to like $3.15. THAT looked like too much of a steal and I said yes. The GOTY update at $5 looked like it was just scenarios and a couple new civs that I wasn't sure were worth it.

So for someone who hasn't played much of it at all yet and will likely never exhaust the base content, that's a no? Can't imagine balance lets any of those addon civs stand out as a must have.
'Worst' is relative, though. Arguably you could say the first was the worst as it was the birth of the franchise and doesn't have as many features as the later ones. Honestly there aren't many significant differences between Civ 3 and Civ 4(gameplay wise). Civ 5 I can't attest to but everything I've seen of it doesn't make me believe it's any better.

Saying 'worst Civ game' is like saying 'ugliest supermodel.'
Thank you, I know understand that opinions are different person to person.

I say it is the worst because I felt like it did nothing for the franchise. That and it was the one I had the least fun in. So since games are for entertainment purposes and it was the one I enjoyed the least it is the worst one. And while this is entirely unnecessary I guess I should point out that this is my opinion and it may not reflect yours.
There was bad civ game?
No, hence the use of the word 'worst'. It is the worst because it is sub par to the other Civs, but is still a good game.

Language... its not that hard!

EDIT: Also it should be known that it is the 'worst' Civ in my opinion because I had already played Civ 1 & 2. Had I not played either of those I would not have had any expectations going into Civ 3.
Never played any Civ games. Civ III worth getting for a dollar?
Bought Civ 3 during the last sale. It is the only Civ game I have played. Took a bit to figure everything out, but I've put 38 hours into it an haven't finished a playthrough yet. Tons of fun. I'm slowly capturing the entire map. Probably the best dollar I've ever spent.
Mass Effect 2 came out before Origin; you don't need Origin but you can register the key if you want. And to my knowledge, all ME DLC is only available through the fucking Bioware store. I took a quick look at Origin just in case but it seems that that's still the case.
Where do you find the steam "keys" to activate ME games on Origin?

^^^
You buy the ME games directly from STEAM.

But he's correct, ME 1 and ME2 do not require Origin, you can just download and install as a standalone retail title [awww I remember those days].
^^^

I was gifted them. Just wondered where I could find the keys.

my first post was extremely unclear. I was gifted the games through steam and I want to register them on Origin. I was wondering where I could find the steam key to register them on Origin.

And "Civ in Space" Alpha Centauri is $3 on GOG (and they finally added the expansion).
Where do you find these "keys" to activate ME games on steam?
Right click on the game in your library, "view CD key".
Where do you find these "keys" to activate ME games on steam?
Select the game in the client. Then look to the menu to the right side of the screen (Only viewable in detail view). Click on "CD Key".

I couldn't get the Mass Effect 1 key to work with registering on Origin. But I had no problem with ME2.

EDIT: Ninja'd by asheskitty. But her description was a bit off, so I'll just leave this here.

eh, i would say it is a 'maybe'. It doesnt just add those civs as playable, it adds them to the game as enemy civs as well.

I think it adds more world wonders. I like wonders so i was all over that. actually i think you have to buy korea civ separate and also the ancient wonders pack(again, i like to go for the wonders).

just checked, this is what is included in the goty content
All 4 Cradle of Civilization Map Packs (Mediterranean, Asia, Americas, Mesopotamia)
Civilization Pack: Babylon (Nebuchadnezzar II)
Double Civilization and Scenario Pack: Spain and Inca
Civilization and Scenario Pack: Polynesia
Civilization and Scenario Pack: Denmark - The Vikings
Explorer’s Map Pack
Official Digital Soundtrack (Soundtrack not available on the Mac)

to get everything, you would have to get that, then get this
http://store.steampowered.com/app/99614/
that is the ancient wonders+ korea civ

+
gods and kings(get it from greenman gamer for 3 bucks,i paid $7.50 on black friday from amazon, but that included a $5 coupon on a future purchase)

I got the ME1 to work but it wasn't through the client but a different link at ea.com

I think it was the apply entitlement one IIRC.

K, thanks. Think I'll pass. Considering I haven't played much of Civ 5 despite owning it for a long time, don't think I can justify purchasing 2 packs the same day and I feel I got the more important one with G&K since it changes actual mechanics.

I heard that you could do something like that. But I never use Origin, so I haven't been sufficiently motivated to make the extra effort to look into it.
It should still be on sale at GMG plus you can use the 30% coupon too.
I checked GMG after posting and it is still on sale and the coupon stacks, now I have to decide if I don't want to buy it out of principle.

With 2 minutes left on the flock, I buckled and grabbed 3DMark11.

Looks like I have some serious OC-ing work to do.

I'm moving over to a 32GB, SSD, i77 3770K (Intel Retail Edge Program), same GPU. After plumbing I'll start putting her through the paces. The rig posted above is Air Cooled, and I have a hard enough time playing Skyrim w/o overheating. I just need to spend a day or 2 plumbing her for H20.

yeah i get that. i have put in over 200 hours to civ 5 base game and feel like i barely scratched the surface(i think i am at about 20% or maybe 30% complete of the steam achievements)

edit 262 hours and 32%. but some of those achievements like 'win a game on settler difficulty' just seem like a waste of time. i guess i could try it just to see if i could win in 10 turns or less

If you want another "Civ in Space" you can get Galactic Civilizations, I have only played II. And it is still on its daily sale too. Quite fun although watching the battles play out is sooooooo boring.

That sounds sensible. G&K already includes a bunch of new Civs so you should have more than enough variety for now.

thanks for pointing this out
so I got the $19.99 pack from amazon
if I get the korea and wonders of the ancient world combo for $1.86, i will have everything for the game?
Your talking about a different mod. The author says to install the 2K version on top of the official free HD texture pack from Bethesda to fill it out. The 2k version of Skyrim Realistic Overhaul weighs in at 5.6 gigs. Your confusing mods. 2k references the size of the texture, but there is also a mod that uses "2k" in name (several, actually).

EDIT: Link to what Motoki referenced above:

I'm talking about the currently available 2K Textures mods here, not confusing any mods. (You could call it "Skyrim HD" too, but no one seems to call it that.)

I was under the impression that the Realistic Overhaul mod wasn't around anymore, and I've never heard anyone call it the "2K Textures" mod, like the other one is called.
I checked GMG after posting and it is still on sale and the coupon stacks, now I have to decide if I don't want to buy it out of principle.

Refusing a deal out of spite!

FWIW GMG said the DMC4 sale lasts until the new DMC game comes out but the 30% discount is ending soon, though they will probably have another sooner or later.

As with anything, it's around if you look hard enough.

But anyway I follow the (old) STEP process and use 2K AND Realistic Overhaul and others too.

I'm not even in this discussion and I somehow got talked into buying Gods & Kings.

yep. if i am thinking correctly, korea is actually a good civ to play for doing the victory via city states because of the bonuses you get to city states.
I'm not even in this discussion and I somehow got talked into buying Gods & Kings.
ive only played gods and kings a little and already it feels like a whole new game, more like civ 5.5 or civ 6 because they added faith.(and new civs and units and buildings)

Ah, thanks. I'll have to check it out. I'm always too lazy to do modding on ES/FO, but when I start on it it becomes a day week long affair...

Right, your talking about a different mod than I am, and I started this whole thing by posting links to it to prove that you could still get it. From the post I read, many people still consider it the best over-all graphics mod for SkyRim (Realistic Overhaul w/2k textures).

The game was a buggy, practically unplayable mess when it was released. I bought it on Day One, played maybe three hours of it and quit in disgust. After the long wait from Civ II devotees and in the era before easy game patching (or automatic patches), I think its reputation was crippled from the very start and never recovered.

Going to wait on far cry 3. should be at least 30$ again at least by the summer sale.
Scimmed a few pages back. If your thinking about getting Mount and Blade I would 100% recommend war band.
The first one you really dont need bc war band is better in every way.
Napoleonic wars is Multiplier only but a fantastic one at that.
Fire and Steel is warband with guns... the guns are 100% OP
