Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
I think Motoki was able to get it gifted to him at the discount price from another CAG so it is possible, might want to PM him to see who got him the hook up.
IIRC it was drabelincoln.

EDIT: Motoki'd
It's possible. I bought it from someone here who was able to gift it to me at the discounted price. Not sure if I should mention who since that person might get a ton of PMs about it.

Note that owners of the Platinum version do not get the discount if they buy more gift copies. It's only for owners of the 2011 and 2012 versions.

You can always go the Cities XL 2011 page and see if it shows any of your Steam friends as owning it.

The Cities XL 2012 page is gone, with the Platinum replacing it so I don't know if there's an easy way to see who owns that game anymore.

You can apparently go to http://steamcommunity.com/id//friendsthatplay/201760 and it should show you who you are friends with who own the 2012 version. You can't get there through the store page because they yanked it since the Platinum version more or less replaces 2012, but the community page is still up http://steamcommunity.com/app/201760.
Alright, thanks Motoki. I've got three people on my friends list who I've done business with before who own Cities XL 2011. I might try hitting one of them up for an assist later on.

I think we will have regular Week Long Deals every week in addition to Daily, Midweek, Weekend deals.
Steam is getting bigger and bigger and it's reasonable way to provide extra slot for a Magicka discount without occupying other, which can be used to provide great Hydrophobia or Alan Wake sales.
I don't know. The quest say Level 13, trivial but I am level 19 and all the enemies are 18-20. There hasn't been a single one below 17. I was thinking maybe the area always has that level enemies, but even the quest-specific enemies have been 17 or 18. Just seems odd to me.

There are some areas that scale depending on your main story progress, that might be the issue. Most of the time they don't though.
This is probably the issue. Remember, some map areas contain multiple quests in them too, so it's possible you already caused a level increase in enemies either by your place in the story or triggering another quest in a common map. For the most part though, enemies don't change a whole in level on your first playthrough.
The MP for Flat Out is a complete mess if anyone was interested in that. Single player mode plays fine though.
Yep. Even though it has a network play feature built right into it, you can't actually play online unless you download some third party program.

At least it supports LAN, so you can use tunngle. I'm used to doing that for a few games, such as: Magicka, LOTR War in the North, Dungeon Siege 1, etc. due to connection issues or the online MP being dead.

Lara Croft Guardian of Light doesn't support LAN, so I can no longer connect to any online MP games, where I could a year ago. Somehow, they broke the multiplayer in it for a lot of people.
Thanks for mentioning this, otherwise I wouldn't have looked. Yeah, this is a cool feature. Tells which games you played the most and what your rarest achievement is and everything. And yeah...I earned 1,791 achievements, which is like 5 a day. /foreveralone.jpg
Where do you see this? Was it in an email? I get the weekly summary emails, but I haven't gotten a yearly summary if that's the case.

Out of Flatout, Flatout 2 and Flatout Ultimate Carnage, which are the best? Best, second best and third best.

Also, is Karateka any good? Has 60/100 on Metacritic. So I don't think I wil buy it.

Edit: Damn, double post.

Try the demo for Karateka. It's too simple for its own good. There's a certain joy to it but not enough to keep me interested.

That's not to say that it's easy but it isn't engaging especially since the challenging part only comes at the very end.

Flatout 1 is good, but a bit dated. Flatout 2 is awesome, but totally superfluous since Flatout: Ultimate Carnage is basically Flatout 2: Complete Edition. And I wouldn't wish Flatout 3 on my enemies. So if I were you, I would only get Flatout: Ultimate Carnage and maybe Flatout 1.

Yep, it should be on your Raptr page like Fox said. If it's not there, just use http://raptr.com/LightRebellion/summary/2012 and replace my Raptr name in the link (LightRebellion) with yours. Can also do that if you don't feel like logging in.

Ah, cool, thanks for the link. Turns out I played 95 games for 713 hours and earned a total of 775 achievements. The thing that sucks about Raptr and I know it's not their doing, but it doesn't keep track of playtime on PS3. It does keep track of the achievements so that's accurate, but I do play quite a bit of PS3 so I'd estimate my total playtime to be more like 1,200-1,500 with all the Call of Duty I play on PS3.

Also, added you on there Blade. My name, as you'd guess it, is Tsel so if anyone else wants to add me, feel free.

I couldn't really find a rhyme, reason or cohesive theme for this week long sale, but hey a sale is a sale. Be nice if they featured it on the front page somewhere though.

I did see the Longest Journey 3 Kickstarted the other day. Actually it just started. Kind of sucky that Funcom is too busy with F2P MMOs to fund the next chapter in one of the most loved and critically acclaimed Adventure games ever. The Longest Journey is pretty much a piece of video game history. The Secret World is okay for what it is but I kind of don't think people will be talking about it 10 and 20 years from now.

Then again Ultima Online is still up so who knows? :p

Anyway, while I want another Longest Journey game, my inner CAG is telling me to wait for a Greenlight bundle, which is almost a must if you want to get into Steam these days though they probably have a big enough name to get in without it, or a post release indie bundle that most adventure games these days seem to get into sooner or later.
Actually the championships call for different kinds of vehicles. In the case of the B-class, you can only use "off-roaders" like the ones Asheskitty mentioned above.
I figured that, but I certainly hope there are some real offroad vehicles, as opposed to Touaregs and soccer mom SUVs...
My SO and I are also playing through Titan Quest. I never caught it when it came out, but I'm surprised at how well it holds up. Amen. Titan Quest Gold is incredible. Be sure to get the unofficial patch that comes with the dye packs as well.

Basically agreed, but Flatout 2 is quite a bit cheaper than UC, and it has a much larger catalog of mods and more modding support than UC.

B2P!

Obvious personal feelings aside, TSW is one of the most original, detailed, fleshed out online RPGs to come out in ages. If you'd play it more, instead of just kicking around in the first area for a few hours with the most annoying beginner weapons to use in the game (pistols), you might figure that out.

I doubt that Funcom doesn't want to fund it as much as they want to fund it and then suggest they put in some of the same shit that bogged Dreamfall down like terrible combat and stealth sections.

That's a good point. Whereas an MMO like SWTOR (or even Maple Story's constant group areas) forces you to party up (or hideously over-level) to beat certain missions, you can fully solo everything in TSW... with careful skillset design and strategy.

That said, it's still great for group play, and dungeons are set up as group areas and are not necessary whatsoever if you don't want to do them.

The problem w/ having a MMO game able to play solo and get through the entire game alone (or with bots) brings up this thought of mine...
...can we please also have an offline mode?

I'm glad games like Hellgate: London (retail box version from Flagship), Borderlands 1, Torchlight 2, Diablo 2, and TDU2 have an optional offline mode...
....so I can play the game offline and alone, when companies go away; and/or servers are down or go away forever.

Hellgate London was TERRIBLE....my roommate and I ran flagshipped.com back when that game was around. It lasted less than a year, I feel bad for the people that actually purchased the lifetime membership with those clowns.

The thing is, this could be said of a lot of MMOs. It would be nice, but the game is still by all intents and purposes an MMO. The gaming experience would be severely gimped without online functions. For example, saving money without use of the online marketplace would be beyond tedious. As would equipping yourself with the strongest equipment to keep yourself at the top of your game, which is extremely vital due to the game's considerably high difficulty level and difficulty spikes between areas and worlds.

Despite it's flaws, I had a blast w/ Hellgate: London - probably b/c I got the game a few months after its reviews were brutal; and after a bunch of patches were behind it.

I don't know why anybody would've bought a Founder's Club thingy.

I just never liked their idea of, more or less, what would be a "lifetime" subscription fee for whenever they decided to actually finish and pop-out DLC.

Gimped or not, I'll still like to continue to play the game that I paid for...
...even though I don't have some or many of the online capabilities.

It's my problem if I'm saying running newer hardware, OS's, and software - and am trying to get an old game going.

That's just how I feel about "always online" DRM & MMO's.

At least when HGL died, I still got the SP, if I really want to go back to it, for some reason.
Or if some modders decided to screw around and mod the game.

Then why are people singling out Secret World? Virtually every MMO these days is a single player game except the dungeons. Hell even WoW has been that way for years. MMOs that actually require interacting with another fleshbag are the rarity these days.

My point was story wise. I'm not really big on just doing dungeons or knocking out giants for no reason. The story in TSW is far more enjoyable than any other MMO I've tried. So far with the story mode there is no need to group up, though it was fun the few times I tried it.

I want to buy a Flatout game. Been reading about FO2 vs FO:UC. Seems that FO2 is A LOT more popular... it has a better online community, better modding... and FO:UC is sexier, but dead.

Now I don't know which one to get. I don't know if I'll be playing MP, but is nice to have the option. I didn't think on playing SSFIV:AE online when bought it some time ago... but after tried it, is awesome.

Now that I think of it, I've never played a racing game online

I dunno, I haven't seen that in the MMOs I've played. Maple Story is an utter grind unless you take part in party missions... which obviously require a party. There are also loads of party missions, and almost all the ingame events are... party missions. A huge chunk of the missions in SWTOR (not to mention they're the only mission that give you good rewards) are... you guessed it, party based (you can do them solo, but it takes over-leveling and backtracking, generally). I want to try that game RaiderZ because I've heard awesome things about it, but that one apparently is extremely limited solo and almost completely group based.

TSW is literally 100% solo-able besides dungeons (and maybe lairs, although I've seen people jump into them solo just fine, provided they were very well set up and equipped). Hell, I've even heard of very skilled QL10/10.1 etc players soloing dungeons. That does seem crazy to me, but it has been done.

If you just want to do the content and don't care about XP or whatever you can do the flashpoints in SWTOR if you are overlevelled. Anyway, it's not a huge deal if you skip them or the heroics. There's still tons of soloable content. You can basically play it like KOTOR III if you want.

I put a kajillion hours into SWTOR and 95% of it was solo. TSW just really hasn't been grabbing me even after a number of tries. Of course it's all a YMMV sort of thing. I'm not really an MMO person to begin with but for a soloable one with heavy emphasis on story content I prefer SWTOR, though I admit as a free player they do nickel and dime the hell out of you, but it's EA.

Yeah, I forgot about flashpoints. What does annoy me is how rare/scarce good loot is on SWTOR unless you take part in party stuff. Hell, you're not even allowed to equip most purple equipment unless you subscribe.

Honestly though, the main reason I enjoy TSW is because of its heavy focus on story content. Every time you play you end up dicking around with us while we do side quests, all the while you feel kind of useless because pistols are generally very weak at first. They end up being a great secondary weapon because they deal clean cut damage with little emphasis on status effects (which is nice because endgame mobs usually resist status effects and utterly kill builds that use them). Early game though, and especially as a beginner weapon, pistols are difficult to use and boring. I didn't have near as much fun with the game (and actually felt like I knew what I was doing in combat) until I started using shotgun/AR/elemental weapons.

Obviously SWTOR is a lot easier to get into and enjoy though... since it's Star Wars. You really should play the story missions in TSW yourself with a new character without pistols. TSW has a much cleaner and quicker paced combat system than SWTOR as well, but if you're using pistols... kinda is hard to tell.

I managed to get decent loot okay in SWTOR. It's kind of rare to find solo but you do come across it now and again and to me that kind of makes it even more special when you do get it. Plus there's always the auction house. Of course with F2P you have to pay extra to equip the really good gear. Oh EA... Also I like that the orange gear lets you wear what you want and keep the same gear and just keep upgrading it. Most people seem to trade in their commendations from the various planets when they are done for gear upgrades.

I do need to keep trying with TSW I suppose, especially since I paid $22 for it. :p I'm not loving the first area with the whole Alan Wake meets Left 4 ead thing going on but I should just plough through that and get to the next area I suppose. Plus I need to do more of the story stuff. I mostly have just run around with other CAGs and shot zombies which is just boring as hell to me, I'm sorry. Also the silent protagonists kind of bugs me after playing through a smartass Twil'ek smuggler in SWTOR.

Anyway, we should shut up about MMOs before we get told on for being off topic, though I do own TSW on Steam and play SWTOR with the Steam overlay. ;)

Also I think I have exceeded my smiley quota for the day. :booty:

Yeah, the first part of Solomon Island is basically just zombieland with some Draugs (sea monsters) thrown in. As soon as you get to Savage Coast, the next area, there's a good deal of other enemies. There's always a spattering of zombies between Kingsmouth, Savage Coast, and Blue Mountain, but they become an afterthought very quickly.

You also should take a crack at some investigation missions. They're extremely rewarding XP wise, and you really really have to use your head (and try your best not to cheat). I've never seen a game with such well put together, modernized puzzle missions.

Agreed I'm really enjoying TSW. Definitely, think you really need to experiment with builds to get the most from the game.

You also should take a crack at some investigation missions. They're extremely rewarding XP wise, and you really really have to use your head (and try your best not to cheat). I've never seen a game with such well put together, modernized puzzle missions.
Zombies definitely become an afterthought once you get to Savage Coast. Definitely, things much worse than zombies there. AHHHH WTF IS THAT?!?!?? RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly, we have agreed the investigation missions are really where the game shines. I still can't believe some of stuff I've had to research to figure out some of those puzzles.

Has anyone else been winning more often on Steamgifts.com?

In the last week I have won:

Home
Krater
Fable The Lost Chapters
Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing
Grotesque Tactics 2 Dungeons and Donuts

Prior to this I won a game 2 weeks ago and then before that it had been 3 months.
Agreed I'm really enjoying TSW. Definitely, think you really need to experiment with builds to get the most from the game.

At this point, I'm winning so many games that I have stopped buying any for myself.

I used to solo City of Heroes quite a bit back when I played that several years ago. I pretty much took a DM/Regen Scrapper to 50 on my own. I couldn't take on AVs and some other Monsters on my own, but for the most part it was quite easy with that build. Ok, I did solo one AV. But it was merely the CK and I did have a pet with me.

I also did a lot of solo stuff @ lvl 50 with an AR/Dev Blaster. I feel like it was a bit of a weak class, but somewhat satisfying to slowly work through an area picking guys off. I used a lot of trip mine/teleport foe to get through the easier guys, then I'd lay a ton of trip mines in a row and pull bosses to me using snipe.

Are you two in a lot of private groups? I rarely win...
Is Mafia II worth picking up from Gamefly? It's $7.49 - discount(GFDFEB20) = 6$.

Edit: Same question for "Spec Ops: The Line". Same price too
I've played and loved both games for various reasons. I believe both tell a great story and although on the shorter side, are incredibly fun while they do last. Just an FYI, you can likely pick up Spec Ops for few bucks in the trading thread, since it was in a bundle with a couple other games a while back.
