Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V6! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

With the V6 Thread, we're trying a slight formatting change. We used to list every possible Steam deal in the OP, but they change too frequently for anyone to keep up with (even in the Wiki format). So now, we'll leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Winter sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 1/22

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.
It seems the topic doesn't exist anymore, but Newegg had a Promotional Code that took $5 off select PC titles, and L.A. Noire was one of those games. (In fact, it's still $10 on the website.) Sadly, I don't know what the Promotional Code is/was or if it's still valid. If I come across the code, I'll be sure to share it.
The thread doesn't exist because the code was personalized.

Not a global promo code.
Yeah, I tried every fix there is besides reinstalling my OS to get LA Noire working before I gave up.
I'm running Win 7 64 and have had LA Noire sitting in my library for awhile untouched. After reading all the issues people have, decided to fire it up and see if it worked. So far (just like 10-15 minutes in) it seems fine (aside from seemingly being horribly optimized), so I'm wondering, for those of you with issues would the game simply not boot or was there a specific point in the game where it started crashing/failing that will drive me mad when I reach it? If there's a crash later that would help to push it further down the backlog.

You should be all right if you have it running. GTA IV was the same way in that if you got it running, you were golden.

FWIW I also had LA Noire running fine with no problems under Win 7 64 and now Win 8 64. Not sure what the issue some people are having is but it's not across the board Windows 7(or 8) specific.

I got WAY better performance out of DX9 mode over DX10.
DX10 caused framerate stutters here and there.
DX9 mode was flawless.

No boot whatsoever. Tried too many fixes to count. Pissed me off so much I just gave up.

I had the non-Steam version though. Although people have the same problems with the Steam version as well.

Seconded, no problems whatsoever running LA Noire Complete Steam version on Win 7 64. Finished the game (at least I think I did) and I never even remember it crashing.
Weekend Deal will probably be Magicka or Just Cause 2 then.
I was betting Weekend Deals just might be Jade Empire and Vampire: Bloodlines. ;)

I hope you're joking.

Because I don't have a sense of humor nor know what emoticons represent.

Sir.
I hope you're joking.
Yep, I was making a joke.

I listed some of the games Steam rarely has put on sale (Vampire: Bloodlines, before last few years, was hardly EVER on sale; Jade Empire doesn't go on sale on often); and/or has trolled us by putting on sale at a better-price after a major sale (Jade Empire).

Because I don't have a sense of humor nor know what emoticons represent.

Sir.

;) = hinting I was making a joke.
Maybe I should've added a "j/k" at the end or something?

Uhm. I don't know if this is just really deep performance humor or not.

But I know.

That's what I was getting at. ;)

(And if it was just going down another layer for the sake of the joke, good on you.)

To quote Eminem -- "...But a lot of truth is said in jest."

Though, not the 1st time - I do NOT expect Bloodlines nor Jade Empire to be on sale this weekend.
I already own both from retail, anyways.

Now that's where I am making a joke (in jest) b/c I think the wink was enough to suggest I was joking....
...and also being truthful, b/c I'm also not sure if I still should've also added "j/k" to make it clear I was joking to everybody.

Am I the only one who saw "incest" a few times there?

Must be just you.
I think you've been playing too much TSW again - and burning your retinas out - like TSW is the new EQ or WOW or something. :p

. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Check the News page. That's the best place for a full roundup of the weeklong deals.
Thank you, I never would have thought to look there.

I've been wavering* back and forth on the bundlestars bundle, if that helps. (No I don't own any of it.)

Also on the fence with the bundlestars bundle. Anyone have any insight on how well/poorly Crazy Machines compares to The Incredible Machine series? I've always had fond memories of the series and if this compares well that might put me over the edge.

Awesome I was hoping one would be alter ego

Man, this bring back memories... that was the title of an old text-only adventure in which you, basically, lived another life from babyhood to golden years choosing reactions to events which were in turn based on your personality, set at the beginning through a series of questions.

It is a rather complex game, involving ways to improve your statistics in order to have a higher chance of overcoming certain occurrences, and of course you can always reach the end prematurely with many accidental, creative and often gruesome methods.

If you want to try it, aside from getting a copy of the game (easy, since it is abandonware) and firing up a DOS emulator, you can also play an online version here, with a nice graphical interface and the option of saving your progresses.

Truly one of a kind, you can look at it as a sort of spiritual forefather for all the Princess Maker-like games that were all the rage some years ago ;)
Yay, finally a bundle I can buy! I only had Mata Hari out of the bunch, so seven games for five bucks is a decent deal.

I'm surprised there hasn't been any talk about the Daily - Great Big War Games. Looks interesting enough and it's super-cheap.

Looking into it, I see it's an iOS game http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/23/great-big-war-game-review with good reviews. I suppose that kind of makes me want to buy it for .99.
Android game that was in the $0.10 sale over a year ago. I'm not surprised there hadn't been much discussion about it being on "sale" for $2.50.

Just finished Binary Domain. What a great game! And the story is really good for a shooter. And believe it or not, the local voice acting of this Japanese game is superb.

I must say, I almost gave up on the game during the first chapter of the game. The shooting did not feel very satisfying in the beginning because the weapon need to be upgraded. But, boy, once you are 1-2 hours in, the action just go non-stop.

And I think its action feels more like Ninja Gaiden than Gears of War. It has typical Japanese games' boss fights, having multiple patterns/stages.

It took me around 12-14 hours to finish the game. I think it didn't drag on too much, but I think if they tighten it up a bit a the end stages, it will be a more intense experience.

Overall score: 4/5 (Gears of War 3, to me, is a 3.5)

I'd say by default most iOS/Android ports don't exactly get much discussion in general. Very few of them stand out.

I did talk about it. Have it on Android and didn't like it. Maybe is just me, but the game isn't fun. I like those kind of games, I wanted to like it, but I don't know. Maybe I should give it another round.

I bought it at 0.25, but 0.99 is a nice price too. Just go with it. I also recommend you Army of darkness defense. Free and addictive game. That and Devil's attorney are my current mobile drug :)

yea, vastly underrated game. so glad it found it's way to pc.

Binary Domain was fun but feels a bit unfinished. Pretty much anything regarding the squad mechanics in particular. Why give me half a dozen characters with unique weapons and abilities and then give me very little control over when they use them? Bringing a sniper like Faye along didn't feel any different than bringing Charlie.

Apparently we complained about the Steam Daily Deals so much, Gabe said, "Why bother?" There is no daily deal today (yet), not even on the news page. (No, the ZD stuff is on sale till the 27th, and thus not a daily.)
i have that alienware coupon for serious sam 3 but keep getting an error at checkout any ideas guys
the coupon does not stack with sale discounts.

Pretty sure it was 66% off during the winter sale when I bought the Standard edition. I suppose this is a good sale for anyone who's since then been using the software and decided it's worth putting in more for the DLC to compile for additional platforms, but for anyone coming to it fresh, I'd wait for a better sale.

Serious question: Has there been any well-received game published on Steam that was made with Gamemaker Studios?
