Welcome to the Steam Deal Thread V7! You can find link to past threads at the bottom of this post. Read post #2 of this thread for Steam FAQs and more.

Since the V6 thread, we've decided to leave regular minor sales out of the OP. This post will keep track of major sales (Summer sale, etc.), Steam deals available through other sellers (like Amazon), Preorder deals, and Group Buys.

I would still greatly appreciate help from you folks at home in keeping this smaller-scale OP up-to-date. This is a Wiki post so anyone can contribute. Wiki instructions:
Thanks for your help! If you notice a sale has ended, feel free to delete its line from the sale list. Of course, if you see something does need to be added, then kindly add it to the list.

Make sure your changes match the thread's format! For example, every game that's on sale is part of an unordered list. When adding a game to the list, copy an existing line and update the link, title, and prices. That way, the format stays correct. Do not list percentages off! We list the original price and the sale price here. If you have any suggestions for major changes to the post/thread, PM me (EastX) about them.

Steam Sales - Updated 5/20

CAG Threads Featuring Steam Games on Sale Elsewhere - Updated 1/9

Preorder Deals - Updated 1/10
Group Buy Deals - Updated 1/9/13

Free Stuff - List needs updating with F2P games!
There are several free games and mods on Steam. These are a few choice ones; you can find a full list here. Note that free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.

Steam around CAG

If you are interested in joining the Steam CAG Community or participating in a trade or group buy with fellow Cheap Ass Gamers, please do so in the dedicated threads and not in the deal discussion thread. In the dedicated threads you will find CAGers with the same specialized interest who will be much quicker (and happier) to respond than in the Deals thread.

Past Special Sales

Visit www.steamgamesales.com to check previous sale prices on Steam games. We do keep track of some older sales here though:

Steam Retail Key List

What is a CD key and where can I find it?

Steam's explanation and list of Steam-activatable keys

The CD Key is a serial number with a combination of 13, 18, or 25 letters and numbers - it can be found on a sticker inside your game's case or printed on the game's quick reference card. The CD Key acts as your proof of purchase for the game - Steam Support may ask for it if you need to establish your ownership of an account. It is recommended that you keep your CD Key in a safe place to ensure the security of your account.

Tempted to get Walking Dead.
10 bucks is a good deal but I wonder if it'll go even lower anytime soon.
I can see a 66% or even 75% off in the next month or so.
What do you guys think?

It's been $7.50 before on Amazon.

It's been $7.50 once or twice on Amazon. I'm sure you'll see that price again relatively soon. I'd wait for that unless you really want to play now, in which case $2.50 isn't that high of a premium to pay.

Also, I found the perfect avatar for you.

The $7.50 was after the January $5 coupon

I could be wrong, but I believe it was $7.50 without the coupon another time.

Did everyone in here decide to join Raptr or something? I swear my email has been nothing but "So and so from Steam has joined Raptr!".

It's been that way for like a week now for me. I assumed there was some super awesome reward coming up, but I didn't see anything.

I think the thing is that when you go to confirm a friend on Raptr it starts suggesting people from your steam friends list to also add (because you need to add your steam friends to your raptr friend-list separately), and once a couple people do that it sets off a chain reaction.

I fear I started the chain reaction.

In like a week they'll be giving away a 75% off coupon for Forge. I don't think it has hit that price yet...
I'm tempted by Poker Night 2, and even more tempted after seeing that the first game hasn't been below $2.49. However I don't like poker all that much and I'm wondering whether I'd get enough enjoyment if I like the idea of the characters conversing instead of the actual poker.
I don't care much for poker either, but it is as you suggest. The game's appeal is in seeing what everyone has to say, especially the moments when two characters strike up a discussion that eclipses what would otherwise be reactions to the game's progress. Also, those games where someone antes with one of the unlockables and it's your chance to claim it as your own.

But this is also why you hit a point where you're just done with the game. Eventually, you've heard it all before and you're just playing to unlock tables and decks and it's time to move on.
So basically the original Company of Heroes entry in my pointless now, so I have one fully functional version of the game, and one with only offline functionality?

That's kinda stupid. Why didn't they just make the original entry steamworks?
It's similar to what they did with Civ IV. I hate having two copies of that in my list of games. You'd think they would just upgrade the existing registry value with all the new content instead of making a new one...

I thought with Civ IV one copy was PC and the other was Mac?
Ash from evil dead isn't voiced by Bruce Campbell so it went from an insta buy for to a maybe. I would like the evil ash head for borderlands but...ehhh

I mean why, why add him to a game where conversation between the characters is one of the sellin points and NOT get Bruce to do some voice work....sigh
Just a terrible idea.
Yeah, I was wondering about that. I don't know why they would do this without Bruce's involvement either. I mean, for both of the video game releases based on the movies, he contributed voice work (and motion-capture too for, IIRC, Resurrection).
Exactly, I mean I doubt his price was too much for them.
It would be army of darkness 2, per raimi. He said he and Ivan were going to try to work on a script this summer. Who knows though.

Drag me to hell had an evil dead feel to it, especially the seance scene. The one guy turns into a deadite and the talking goat. That's the laughing deer head on the wall in the cabin in evil dead 2
Good call and I liked Drag Me To Hell also.
True. Cabin in the Woods is immensely more enjoyable than Evil Dead :booty:
Exactly, I remember playing the first one simply to get that damn X-mas achievement. It was maddening after awhile. "Damnit Heavy pony up your gatling gun you mother fucker!"

"Max, you bastard are you ever going to give up the fucking badge??!?!"

"Ahhhhhhhhhh how the hell did you win Tycho!!!!!"

Amazingly, I never had a problem with Strong Bad.
I actually never played Carmageddon.

I know, I know - you've probably played just about every racing game in existence, eh? ;)
I never played Carmadeggon 3... kinda glad I never did. (Bad game make by a different dev.)

Yep, in December iirc.
Did everyone in here decide to join Raptr or something? I swear my email has been nothing but "So and so from Steam has joined Raptr!".
No, I've thought about it, but too much effort.

Odd considering that I read that Oddworld Stranger's Wrath HD version overwrote the old version (and was at release far buggier).
I thought with Civ IV one copy was PC and the other was Mac?
Correct. As a true believer I can verify this. I even have mac and PC versions installed.
Which is why I have a "ZZZ Mac/Junk" category in my library, full of test versions and ALL the GTA Mac versions...
LOL, same. Oddly it's of no use on my mac since MacSteam has a sorting pulldown "Mac Games" (added to the Recent Games, All Games, Installed Games).
Preorder for Resident Evil Revelations is up. $50 seems kinda steep; the usual assortment of unlocks are present. Maybe I'll just play it for a fraction of the price on the 3DS.
And Capcom thought that this would be a great bonus...because apparently this would just be too much.
And Capcom thought that this would be a great bonus...because apparently this would just be too much.
WTF Capcom! I didn't even realize there were 2 versions of that on Steam.. Great way to make me not want to preorder.

If you are actually a fan of poker, you will hate Poker Night. If you are a fan of the characters in the game, you are basically spending cash to hear some dialog, after which you will never want to play again.

I'll play chess against computers, backgammon less so, and poker, certainly not.

I have no bleedin idea why someone would wish to play poker against a computer (or without even being face to face).

Lost Planet is a boobie prize in and of itself but not getting Colonies Edition is like getting kicked in the nuts twice.

Colonies Edition adds a boss rush mode which you can play without dipping toe into the game's awful campaign; allowing you to, with enough effort to work the boss rush mode's branching timing paths, experience all the decent parts of Lost Planet without actually having to play the dumb game. That's really the only draw of Colonies Edition but it's a big one because LP1 is just bad if you actually have to work through the game's levels to see these bosses.

Totally disagreed. It isn't the greatest game in the world, but the story, characters, level design, gameplay, and bosses were enjoyable and the experience was very unique. I played through it on the 360 and I'd gladly do it again on the PC.

That said, Colonies Edition is really only worthwhile if you want the multiplayer content, but since I'd imagine online is more or less dead, there's really no use for it. I think the boss rush mode was pretty lame. Multiplayer was a blast when it was active, ESPECIALLY the Akrid Hunter mode where one team controlled the Akrid (alien bug bad guys of the game).

I do agree not including the Colonies Edition is a joke, though. Typical Capcom bullshit.

Haha, good one. I might actually use that.
My screen name was actually something I came up with in elementary school.
Wanted it to be redmOngoose, named after those mongoose bikes at the time.
But ended up tying "man" instead and just went with it, and stuck with for convenience.

I think I'll just hold off on it for now. Sort've in a MGS phase right now and have a giant backlog as well. But definitely hope to play through season 1 with my roommates and friends before my semester ends late May..

Played some Tomb Raider last night. It's weird because it doesn't feel like classic Tomb Raider but that's ok because the way they handled it. It's a prequel that basically gives Lara more personality other than chick with guns.

Typically, when I start a game I play through it to the end regardless of how I feel about it. Lost Planet was one of the few I couldn't keep playing. I just had zero interest in moving forward after the first few chapters.

Thanks for the info, now I may have to reconsider if I want to preorder that.
According to Steamprices it was $4.99 during the winter sale and I would expect similar during the summer sale.
Unless I'm mis-reading that was back in 2011. I wouldn't want to wait 2 years for $2.80.

Valve games get the axe in price during almost every biannual sale. And TF2 is free. Not a bad price either way for Portal and HL2 Eps, but remember that this has been out for nearly 6 years.

Orange Box was $4.99 on Gamefly in December 2012.

Gamefly occasionally has pretty good deals on Half-Life 2/Orange Box.

Oh, and Lost Planet wasn't that great, it was only decent for its time because it was an early gen 360 title. There weren't that many good 360 games in that time period, so people ate that shit up (including me).

Yeah, I remember that sale. I think there was a coupon active at the time that let people get it for $4. I already owned the Orange box, but the price was low enough that I briefly considered buying a copy for my secondary steam account. Then I came to my senses.

I was really hoping the pre-order deal on RE was going to be a coupon or a bundle of sorts with RE6. I would have bit if I could have gotten both games as a package for like 70. As it is, I am just going to wait until the Summer Sale.
Primal Carnage is today's game at $4.99. Thoughts?
It looks like a ton of fun, but I can't bring myself to buy MP only games - I never really end up playing multiplayer unless it's with friends. Especially in FPS games - I'm horrible at FPS so MP's off the table for me.

Yeah I got that today as well. I still haven't even played Magicka yet so more free stuff is more free stuff to enjoy when I do.

lol... I saw Magicka Newsletter and deleted instantly without reading the rest. Glad you posted so I dug it out of trash and redeemed my DLC.

So if I found the original Bioshock upsetting, am I going to be disturbed by Infinite? I have a free code for the game, and I was thinking of redeeming it. But I'm a weenie girly gamer.

Aside from the pretty graphic melee kills, Bioshock Infinite is far lighter then the original in tone and appearance. Go for it and fall in love with the game.

Any idea on if it's worth getting the Walking Dead on Steam? I'm assuming it has all five episodes, but I may be a tard and read wrong.
