Almost shot soda from the nose cannon. :applause:
This marketplace thing sounds interesting, I have had TF2 since it first came out but haven't touched it since.

LOL I love that movie.

There's some bad words, so probably NSFW.

Obviously the trick is to use the cards with the lowest value to level. Sell your high value cards - these tend to be the ones that are not as widely owned.

I've leveled up with a bunch of cheap cards and sold some of the $1+ cards to basically make this free (and score a tiny profit).

Man I already own Civ V and G&K. I just want the extra dlc nations, getting that costs as much as rebuying the gold edition that includes everything...

If I buy the Gold edition are the keys for everything all seperated? so I can give away the core game but keep the dlc for myself?

EDIT: more games added to the steam trading card beta

- Left 4 Dead 2 (finally!)

- Sanctum 2

- Go Home Dinosaurs!

- Triple Town

- Cubemen 2 (its 50% off right now, $7.99 - $3.99)
Thanks for the heads up. Time to idle some L4D cards...
Do those all come with possibility of foils?

Looks like Runner 2, Faerie Solitaire, and Monster Loves You badges are also out there.
yes those 3 games were added a couple of days ago. All the games in the beta have the possibility to give you foil cards but they are very rare, I have gotten all the card drops from 9 of the 16 games in the card beta and have only gotten 2 foil cards

I uninstalled Left 4 Dead 2 cause it kept downloading updates all the time, looks like its time to reinstall.

Triple Town is a cool game to play on an iPhone, but I can't really imagine sitting at a PC playing it. I guess a lot of people play those small mobile style games on PCs though. Some of them even started on PC.

You can buy an upgrade to Gold for $5 I'm pretty sure. Can't comment on the keys though, I would expect they would all be added to your account.

You can boot up Steam Achievement Manager and go into your L4D2 achievements and just idle there for the cards. You don't need to actually have the game installed.

That worked for me, which was nice, as my connection is rather slow.

I thought it wasn't coming to 360. I don't have interest in the game, but I read a few articles on it. <-- regarding Diablo 3

I don't have experience with that manager, but I had the game backed up to an external drive. Took like 10-15 minutes but it restored and I only had to download about 3-400MB.

I don't think I want to spend more money completing badges, will probably sell these cards.

Has anyone played Lunnye Devitsy or Wake from the Lunar Pack? http://store.steampowered.com/sub/26391/ They're cheap and the dev has interest in producing cards for them, so if they're actually good-decent I might want to grab before the sale ends.

Good looks for the intel; it would undoubtedly result in a profit despite being in Royale because the power levelers love those cards and I love them for loving them. Do you have a link for that?

MrNinjaSquirrel: You listed Civ IV Complete in the OP without mentioning that it includes Colonization, which is a standalone game. It's for the children really, but I don't care.

Thanks for this, my connection isn't too slow but I really don't enjoy L4D at all and you just saved me downloading 12 GB or whatever it weighs in at.

Excited to see so many games getting cards in the future, I have almost all of the ones on that reddit list and I've made almost $20 so far, and that includes actually crafting 3 badges.

Picked up Cubemen 2 at 75% off for $1.99.  Idling for cards now but have already sold 4 for $1.64.  One drop left, but it appears that idling for the cards will pay for the game itself.  Not a bad deal!

how did you get the game for 75% off? it only shows 50% off for me, so I got the 2-pack for $5. I'm looking to get rid the extra copy.

I think it was a loyalty discount for those of us that already had Cubemen 1. Can't remember exactly where I picked it up...

EDIT: Just sold my last card, ended up getting the game for free and making $0.35.

I hate it too, quote chains become longer than the posts under them. I'll have a reason to revisit some of them, assuming they run.

The card game on it's own is fine. But, the game is a pointless time waster. Collecting pets for no reason reeks of some stupid farmville concept. The game has a great ability to keep players wanting to play until they realize they're playing a card game with a boring story. And, the pets they're grinding for are worthless and evolving them serves no purpose.
I honestly don't understand the idea that the pets make the game bad. The card game (the gameplay) is casual and fun, and the pets are just an added bonus for fun. It's a free card game, so I wasn't expecting the story to keep me on the edge of my seat, honestly.

It's not like it forces you to collect every pet, that's up to you. Seriously, dumb reason to call it pointless. All games are pointless.

Gold doesn't include Brave New World though. If it's just going into your backlog might as well wait until Civ V Platinum is released with Brave New World. (And I'm not sure they're done adding on to that game yet.)

Starting to think these cards are just a way to get us to actually play some of the indie games we buy... But then you all started talking about idling to get cards. I''ll stick by my original stance of using it as an excuse to play some of the games in "le backlogue".

The cards are a marketing technique designed to generate revenue -- and it's doing a great job.

I see it as Gabe playing Robin Hood by gradually leeching money from trust-fund babies and doling it out to CAGs.

Gabe is unamerican.

Thanks. I just realized I'm an idiot and can't read. I thought the Civ V Gold Upgrade included the core game when it just upgrades the core game (which I have) to the gold edition which is exactly what I wanted. $5 to Sid and Gabe.

What happened to CAG holy mackerel.

Either way, just want to report at least something Steam game related:

Resident Evil Revelations: Not really worth anything above $10. Not scary. Not thrilling. Not suspenseful. Just felt like a mediocre inoffensive time-waster like Hydrophobia.

Gunpoint: Worth it but short as hell and does not reach the quality/challenge/mastery peak of Monaco's magnum opus levels at the end of the hard mode story but still a fantastic little puzzler with stealth overlay.

Is Saints Row: The Third complete package worth it if you already have just the base game?
Absolutely not. Note the Season Pass DLC includes Nyte Blayde plus the three story DLCs. But the complete pack advertises those as separate buys. They're using tricky math to try to convince you that's a deal.

Add all DLC to cart and remove garbage like Bloodsucker, Horror, Penthouse, Genki Girl, (Maybe unlocks, depends on what you seek from the game), the four double counts, and you'll be pimping your SR3 for cheaper.

Though really I think you could skip all the story DLC too because it is pretty wretched except for Genki Bowl which is only kinda wretched.

Lessons learned from the Winter Sale coal game, morphed into a more familiar theme. People will play games, no matter how crappy, for a "reward" of uncertain value.
Considering the amount of mediocre games I've seen to completion, that does not surprise me at all.

Better (or worse) yet, people will BUY games they otherwise had no interest in just for a chance at a prize of uncertain value. You just know someone dropped $5 last night on Faerie Solitaire.

I played FS last night (got it free back when) and had no idea it had a "plot" probably because I clicked through all that. As a casual card game, it was enjoyable for an hour and a half. Sold the cards, made a few bucks, had fun getting the cards... no regrets.

I think the season pass for SR3 is worth it if you love the game, I enjoyed the random shit thrown in.

As for all the cosmetic stuff, pick and choose, don't buy it ALL. Not much point, because you won't like all of it, and you'll want to avoid the unlock stuff and the Bloodsucker DLC. The Genki Girl DLC is one of my favorites, though. The vehicles are crazy, unique, and damn good. Giant off-road panda-car with a machine gun turret, crazy fast cat-mobile with a machine gun turret, and a tiger-cycle with a flamethrower coming out of its mouth.

Calling any of the Saints Row 3 DLC "pointless" is both silly and accurate, since the game itself is rather pointless... but is crazy fun.

Has nobody mentioned the new Humble Weekly yet? I didn't see it.  All the Serious Sam games, BTA of $4.16 currently to unlock 2 and 3. I thought I'd just pick up the ones I was missing on the trade thread, but upon further inspection I only have the HD games, and you really can't beat the price, so...I'm in.

Playing L4D2 for card drops today made me realize why I stopped playing: the community is so much worse than other games, like MW3 and CS, that it's just not fun anymore. You all have to work together to reach a goal/explore because your enemies respawn countless times over, and every match is either filled with kids who don't know what's going on or players who think they're amazing, talk shit, then try to kick you or kill the server and ruin your match. And you get people who grief the game by killing themselves or trying to kill you (there's no way to turn off friendly fire) and crippling the team. The only way to have fun now is to either play with a bunch of people you know, or to play with friends against bots. Otherwise, idle the shit out of the game for cards.

We talkin' about L4D2 or real life?

Well, under level 10 Steam accounts can get foil card drops now. A Valve employee posted this in a thread.

Yes, we have changed it so that all users have a chance to get Foil drops. We'll post about it in the new games announcement soon. We had a few reasons for having it initially but the overall feedback from users was that having the level 10 requirement was a net negative, and actually prevented users from wanting to play games.
Thankfully I didn't waste TOO much money on badges yet.

Happy Suck Day to me!

I didn't want to squander a minute of my time leveling up to 10. I'd rather face my perpetually respawning enemies who want to kick me or kill me than grind shit like that.
