New Thread:

This thread has been replaced by TSDT v11

Daily Deal:
Please check the Steam homepage.

Weeklong Deals:
Steam usually has week-long deals that change on Mondays at 6PM UTC. They mostly feature indie games, and may not run every week.

Sale summary lists:

Key:
⤷ indicates DLC, — specifies part of a pack, + shows alternative versions, ⚠ highlights things worth knowing, ♫ is obvious, and ... denotes a multi-pack.

Holiday Sale 2013 | 19/12/13 through 3/1/14:
Days 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-14.

Spring/Autumn Sale 2013 | 27/11/13 through 3/12/13:
All days.

Steam deals on other stores: (Related threads on CAG.)

Indie* bundle threads: (*Not always indie, nor always a bundle.)

Free stuff:
There are quite a few free games (mostly Free to Play) and mods available via the Steam platform, a comprehensive list of which can be found in this thread on the SPUF.
(NOTE: free games are not permanently attached to your Steam account like actual purchases would be. You'll need to manually download a game again from the website if you uninstall it.)

So apparently the Blacksoul devs aren't playing dumb, they are just bad communicators. Now they are saying they sent keys to Groupees, but people who bought directly from Desura are the ones that have to send their profile to get the steam key manually added.
Well, I got an extra key out of this, so I don't mind!

60 in March update:

Beat 8 games so far:

01: Luxor (3/1; 9 Hours played; 3 stars) - Started in Feb. It's ok.
02: Love (3/1; 38 Minutes played; 3 stars) - Pretty fun.
03: The Graveyard (3/1; 13 Minutes played; 1 or maybe 5 stars) - A true gem! Or maybe not. But maybe!
04: Happy Song Prototype (3/1; 5 Minutes played; 3 stars) - Nifty?
05: The White Birch Prototype (3/1; 16 Minutes played; 4 stars) - Very nice atmospheric climbing game. Rough mechanics.
06: Black Lake Prototype (3/1; 16 Minutes played; 5 stars) - Really cool game. Gotta find that fox!
07: BRAZEN Prototype (3/1; 10 Minutes played; 4 stars) - Fun stuff. A few hours would have been too much.
08: Magical Drop V (3/1; 30 Minutes played; 2 stars) - Not sure if this game is designed for kids or perverts.

That's almost as stupid... Desura has the ability to provide keys only to direct purchasers (and not those who activated a key from elsewhere.)

Actually, lately there is something wrong with Desura and it seems that the devs cannot contact it's staff and ask them to distribute the keys. At least I believe that something like this happened with Oniken keys.

Call me an asshole but I just requested (and was granted) a Desura key in the new thread he created knowing full well I'd get a 2nd from Groupees. On the upside, I'll dump the extra key here when Groupees keys come in.

lol... and people thought that them selling out to Linden Lab wouldn't change anything.

Wait, I think I own Desura now.  Let me check my business and acquisitions ledger.

...

Nope, I bought Impulse.  Well, that's just wonderful.  Can't help you guys.

Must've been confused about having previously bought the rights to the Desoto line of automobiles.

That makes no sense. If they can't contact the Desura admins, then how is it that Indie Royale is still going? Isn't that bundle site run by the Desura people?

Might as well grab all the DRM free installers from there soon...

LOL after going to the thread & putting my 2 cents in earlier.. I just went to my groupees profile to grab my code (because.. backlog's not big enough I guess).. and lo & behold I didn't even buy Bundle of the Damned 2.  So I had no skin in the game to begin with.  It's sad that I buy so many of these bundles that I just assume I have them all.

They may just be ignoring contact regarding adding keys. Perhaps they no longer want to be used as a key-distribution service.

Just fragged my way through Dinner Date. After all the hate it got here, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I enjoyed my time as Steve Bumbleprick's subconscious. Plus, he had Dinosaur Comics on his fridge. Cool dude! If any of you were wondering what poem he had on his fridge next to that comic (I know that you all were), here it is:

Genius in Beauty

Beauty like hers is genius. Not the call
Of Homer's or of Dante's heart sublime, --
Not Michael's hand furrowing the zones of time, --
Is more with compassed mysteries musical;
Nay, not in Spring's Summer's sweet footfall
More gathered gifts exuberant Life bequeaths
Than doth this sovereign face, whose love-spell breathes
Even from its shadowed contour on the wall.

As many men are poets in their youth,
But for one sweet-strung soul the wires prolong
Even through all change the indomitable song;
So in likewise the envenomed years, whose tooth
Rends shallower grace with ruin void of truth,
Upon this beauty's power shall wreak no wrong.

Dante Gabriel Rossetti

Kenny Powers is a real class act.

In other news... I just 100%ed Chime.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/Foxhack/stats/Chime

I hate Still Alive. So. Goddamn. Much.
Haven't played that in a while. I got most of the harder achievements years ago. There isn't any way to purposely trigger the companion cubes, is there? I remember feeling it was a random occurrence, making the achievements to get 50 and 100 of them an exercise in patience rather than skill. Ended up playing that level a lot while getting other achievements just hoping to passively make cube progress, but I gave up on it.

Love the game. Just wish those two cheevos weren't so arbitrary.

This is by my favorite... and its not even part of the show.

Absolutely insane that K-Swiss would sign on for this.

Obviously... Not safe for work.
LMFAO!

I've never seen that before.

Freaking hilarious - even more so, since K-Swiss signed onto it!

re: Black Soul

Yeah the whole thing is a mess and he's a terrible communicator. I guess writing for clarity and being able to make sure you are understood is not a requirement an indie developer needs. Also he's Italian, Dear, so maybe he's got a little of that Indie Gala idiosyncraticity.

re: Desura

I agree that it seems their level of service and willingness to assist with distributing Steam keys has gone down since Linden took over based on comments I've seen from multiple devs starting around the time Finding Teddy got added. Also keys with Indie Royale take forever now to populate to the page even though they obviously have them because you can fish them out of the Desura client.

Speaking of which, that duping bug has existed for a long and and is widely known yet they've done nothing to fix it. It's one thing for dup keys to be issued because a developer can't clarify properly and confused the hell out of everyone, but it's another for a developer to have duplicate keys issued because Linden/Desura/Indie Royale are too lazy or oblivious to fix their shit.

re: Deadfall

Anyone else play it? It's basically a modern (not point and click) adventure game with some light shooting elements. Very Indiana Jones. Dialogue is kind of camp/cheesy but intentionally so. The free weekend was just the first chapter. I rather liked it so I went looking for a deal.

I'm sure this is too rich for most CAGs blood but I found the boxed retail Collector's Edition for $13ish on Amazon and I had some Amazon credit so I went for it. I'm fairly certain it's Steamworks even at retail. The CE is nothing to write home about, just a few multplayer skins, a gun, a making of video and digital artbook, but it was cheaper than any other deal I could find on it right now including Russian sellers even. :p

It's $13.84 now but was $13.18 when I got it last night. Amazons seems to do those weird little fluctuations like that but you can always set a notify me if price goes below X on CamelCamelCamel.

re: Dinner Date

Speaking of which, I have an extra key for it. Have fun getting stood up by a virtual date, whoever gets it.

So you're saying you bought the porn bundle.
No, I can't bring myself to pay $11 for it. I had an extra Dinner Date from one of the Flying Bundles. I think I actually bought it before that on a cheap sale.

*Edit: Or maybe it was Bundle in a Box that I got my earlier copy from. I can't be expected to remember these things! :p

Yeah, none of the good porn was in the dollar tier.

Well, good. If I had heard someone else went for it I would have been harder-pressed to resist that Girlfriend President game.

And thanks to my sometimes-up-to-date database, I see that I got Dinner Date both from a Flying Bundle and from a Bundle-in-a-Box.

They're not random. You get a cube when you reach an 18x Multiplier in the Portal stage. Once you get that the next piece will be a Companion Cube instead of a random piece - even the "Next" graphic changes to show the cube.

What I did was build as many quads as possible, and when I reached 18x, I placed the cube on the board, then started arranging random two block tall portions around so I could start making new quads when the multiplier reset. Using this technique I managed to get seven to nine companion cubes per twelve minute game (the timed rounds were 9 minutes, but I got 3 more thanks to the multiplier bonuses.) You don't have to complete the board, all you have to do is keep getting cubes.

You just have to keep clearing the board of any pieces that are about to cause the multiplier to reset.

These are still two really crappy grinding achievements. I've had the game for a long time, and it's fun, but having to play the same goddamn song over and over and over and over and over and over and over made me hate the game and the song. It's a good casual action puzzler, just... be aware that those two achievements are a pain in the ass.

Well, that and The Snake, but that one because it's mostly having enough luck to get the needed pieces to create a quad that's as wide as the board...

Well, that pretty much explains EVERYTHING!

Why are the achievement icons so cute....... Makes me want to buy it.

So is this like.. a musical tetris ?
Kinda. You have to form 3x3 sized (or larger) cubes. The bigger the cubes, the higher the points. The more cubes you make, the higher the multiplier. But if you leave untouched bits in the playground, they will start fading and eventually vanish, and they'll make the multiplier go down. Depending on the size and shape of the quads you create, the music changes.

As I said, it's fun, and I really recommend it as a casual, yet challenging, puzzler. It's just those achievements that you have to look out for.

If achievements are that frustrating, I usually just skip them. My time and the frustration factor are simply not worth it.
