For future reference, Viz artbooks are generally not factory shrinkwrapped. I have a handful of anime/manga artbooks from them, and don't remember any of them being shrinkwrapped.
Yeah, in general, I get very few books that come shrink wrapped as that's just another cost, and most places are extra cheap bastards! LOL

Normally the only books that come sealed are ones that have some item that needs to be enclosed, like a bookmark or info paper leaflet, etc. Other wise, they all come open more often than not, but books of a higher quality and or value often always come sealed, as it helps to prevent damages.

I just ask because I mostly buy Dark Horse art books, and they always come shrinkwrapped.
I think it's pretty common these days, but it's still not quite ubiquitous. Udon now shrinkwraps theirs--they didn't used to. Dark Horse does. Titan Books does on 'most', but there are definitely some where they haven't. The Squeenix exclusives are shrinkwrapped. Those companies make up a large portion of the Video Game art book industry in the west. The last one that I can remember not being shrinkwrapped was the Tekken art book that just came out. That was from Dynamite Entertainment, and I'm not very familiar with them.

I'm surprised chrislaustin hasn't posted this yet, but the Kicksarter for the NES/Famicom Anthology from Geeksline is now live. Still a few early bird discounted copies left.

Thanks for posting, as it was on my to do list, but I'm under the weather today, and currently I'm just getting by so to speak. I was actually a little bummed to see this this morning, as my SNES Anthology has yet to arrive, and they are already selling the next book. There was no advance warning, at least none I saw, so of course I missed out on the most discounted offering(like always). Since most of the best books are offered in EU currently, this happens all the time, as these books go up at odd hours, and without a proper heads up, I'm screwed each time.

Not a big deal, but it would have been nice as a more than regular customer to have been told something, but like LRG, just because you have a product the public wants, doesn't mean you know how to run a business in an efficient manner.

My SNES one arrived late last week in Illinois. I'm sure you'll get yours soon!

Was it packaged well?

EDIT: Yeah, my order is due tomorrow I believe, unless FedEx has changed the delivery date again(which they have done a few times already).

For the most part. It was bubble wrapped and boxed. My slipcase has a slight dent along one of the edges, but it's not severe enough to open up a claim IMO.

Mine also arrived a couple days ago, packed in the same way yours was. Though I did luck out in that there were no visible blemishes at all on my copy.

When I got my Sony books last time, they arrived damaged, as they had been packaged like shit to say the least. The replacements arrived fine, so it was all good, but I just hate having to deal with returns for reasons that should never happen, especially for books of this value. My order is due to arrive today, so fingers crossed.

I guess they used Amazon for shipping in EU this go around, and there seems to be a rather large amount of damages arriving across the pond(I saw tons of issues in the comments on KS). So this is why I asked, but Think-Geek did assure me Amazon US was not handling delivery on this side, so that was a HUGE relief to say the least. LOL

Out of curiosity, how difficult was it to exchange your damaged Sony book? Did you have to pay return shipping?

Not difficult at all, as they didn't want the damages back, so I kept them, and before anyone ask, they have long since been sold. LOL The only thing I had to do was provide pics of the damages, and that was that, pretty painless really. The wait for the replacement was the only real issue, as that took a few weeks.

New book coming from Future Press. I assume this will be similar to their book for The Last Guardian

The World of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint Hardcover – October 31, 2019 - $39.99

Thank God I have Zero interest in this series, so one less book I need to buy. LOL

As for my SNES Anthology, it arrived in perfect condition, and I would say this was there best packaging yet. I'm headed over to the campaign page to give credit where it's due, and to make sure whomever fulfilled these orders stays on the payroll and handles all books in the US going forward.

I'm not familiar with these books. I was looking at the Kickstarter, and I saw there was an option for the SNES and NES books and the NES and N64 books, but I couldn't find a bundle for all three, unfortunately, unless I'm missing something. They've piqued my interest, but don't know anything about the quality of the writing.

Yeah, their most recent book was the SNES, which is currently shipping to customers. The NES book is the one running currently, and the N64 book has been out of stock/print for a minute. So due to demand, they piggy backed the N64 reprint in to KS, as a way for those who missed out originally to get it.

I would guess most people have all of their books(those interested anyways), as they are all currently on their website except for the N64 one. While they probably should have offered the option for all 3, it's probably very few who would need to take advantage of it. Here's their site, as you can buy the other book there if you want, and then get the other books through the campaign. https://www.geeksline-publishing.com

Their books are amazing, as Amazon actually sells a few as well, so if your interested in quality(or maybe cheaper prices), check the reviews there. But yes, these are AMAZING! LOL

Awesome, thanks for the info and link. It's good to know the others are available on the site so I have a way to get them all.

Thank you, I appreciate the info. I'll probably get the NES/SNES/N64 bundle on kickstarter and pick up the Playstation and Gamecube on their website. (Playstation sold out on Amazon, unfortunately). Anyone know if the Playstation Collector's Edition is worth the extra price or should i just go with standard? It also would be cool if I could get everything through Kickstarter, but I assume you can only pick one of the reward options.

Have they stated whether this reprint will be exclusive to Kickstarter or will it be available on their website or Amazon in the future?
I haven't seen it mentioned one way or another, but I can't imagine you re-print an in demand book, only to limit it's numbers? I don't often see these campaigns as ways for these places to get funds, so much as it is to gauge demand. That's why we always get a campaign specific item(unique dust cover, # certificate, extra pages, etc), but then you have the standard versions to sell after the fact. You want to be able to sell books like this to as many people as possible, but you also don't want to go overboard and have to cut prices and give books away to clear inventory at some point.

So based on their past history, I would say it's 99.9% likely they offer this after the fact, as why limit this to the most recent NES book? They can still offer the N64 to new fans they get through this NES book, as well as future ones not yet announced.

It feels like this book is flying under the radar a little. The base edition is only $27.99 which seems cheap for an artbook. I hope it does well, the art was obviously one of the best things about Cuphead.
For most books in the $40 range, $27 is about the average price after the discount for new releases. The CE is at $69 currently, but I believe it was in the $50's at one point, but I got in after that. So these types of discounts are the norm on Amazon, and Barnes & Nobles used to match pricing pretty closely, but they've fell off in recent years. Which means I let my membership fall off as well. LOL

Just a heads up gals/guys, I just got the new Mario Odyssey art book from Amazon(packed like shit), and Dark Horse is now shipping these books with a clear plastic case, like the ones used for games, just bigger(obviously). I guess DH finally figured out people collect these books, and having them arrived beat to hell and back is not a good look. This may have been ongoing for awhile, as I haven't bought any standard DH books in a minute, so hopefully this is a new feature going forward and not a one off.

I just got my Splatoon 2 art book in, and this is one of the most incredible books in my collection. The art is beautiful, and it's filled page to page with endless art and information. What an outstanding release.

Some highlights:

Also, NEOGEO and NES compendiums are being reprinted. Commodore 64 compendium is almost OOP, so don't sleep on it if you want it.

Hardcore Gaming 101's book on Japanese video game obscurities came out for backers recently. Got my copy in yesterday and it's lovely. For those who missed it earlier, Amazon's got preorders open, and the Kindle edition is available now.

Yep, mine arrived as well, but the corner is smashed in and the dust cover torn, so now trying to get a replacement, so time will tell? It is a great book, just sad it was sent in these shit mailers, as I get these from overseas all the time, and 9 out of 10 items arrived damaged because of it.

So for those of you who use "In Stock Trades" on the regular, do they offer any kind of Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, or do they just stick to their normal low prices year round and call it a day? I had a book I was eye balling for purchase, but didn't want to jump in if there's a chance for a possible discount over the next week.

They'll definitely have an extra percentage off.

PSA: You know it must be the holidays, as Amazon just sent me a softcover book in an actual box with proper protection(if I shook the box, nothing moved). I haven't seen that from normal staff in years, so you know whomever did this was "holiday help"! LOL

Cook & Becker is having their BF sale until the 2nd, and a few decent books to be had, as they are normally on the higher end of gaming publications. So any discount is always welcome here, and I can personally vouch for the Sonic book, as it's pretty bad ass, and I paid full price. LOL

whats the difference between the LE $79 and the Reg $39? the LE comes with a box and a print but less pages than the REG without the box and print? thats a huge price difference.

whats the difference between the LE $79 and the Reg $39? the LE comes with a box and a print but less pages than the REG without the box and print? thats a huge price difference.
Yeah, these appear to be the differences:

Limited to 2.500 copies

Hardcover with separate dust-jacket
248 pages
310 H x 275 W mm / 12 H x 11 W inch
Full Color
Comes in a high-quality outer box
Has a unique inner sleeve that folds into a book stand
Contains an exclusive, hand-numbered 12 color screen print by Yuji Uekawa

I'm sure there are some unboxing/review videos as well, that may show more of the physical differences. The standard edition is also a newer version of the book in general, as it has new pages the book in the CE does not(as it's the original book, and not updated). Yeah, the CE is for sure a fan service item, and if not a HUGE Sonic fan, the standard would probably be fine. I only bought the CE, so my info on the standard edition is limited to what I could locate with a quick search.

Things From Another World has some decent Nintendo books on sale, and you can use "BLACKFRIDAY19" at check-out for an additional $5 off of your order. The three stand outs here appear to be the standard and LE of the Mario Encyclopedia and the Zelda Arts & Artifacts, as the others may not be better than some other places. https://www.tfaw.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=nintendo

They also offer other "gaming" publications as well, I just didn't have the time to search other deals out, so take a look before you check out, as some other deals may be possible.

EDIT: Square Enix: https://www.tfaw.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=square+enix

TFAW and Dark Horse have a shared history (the founder of both is the same person), so it's worth searching that site for all Dark Horse artbook deals during their big sales. Unfortunately, sorting is a little busted on their new site, but if there's a specific Dark Horse artbook you're after, you might want to do a quick search.

Right now, in addition to the Nintendo and Square Enix books, there's some great discounts on their Battlefield V, Uncharted 4, and Gears 4 artbooks, amongst some others.
