The CE Disc for Gamecube also took advantage of 480p, IIRC.

The main difference is that Nintendo is touching up the N64 games so they aren't as blurry / shitty looking, which I don't think they did on the CE version.
Are they actually touching them up or is it simply a result of the progressive scan making them look better?
Are they actually touching them up or is it simply a result of the progressive scan making them look better?
It's an actual touching up. I think it was 1up that mentioned this was happening.

IGN even notices the muddiness in Mario 64 is completely gone, and they specifically mention that N64 games are getting cleaned up:

And Super Mario 64 has never looked this good before. Heralding a bright future full of graphically enhanced N64 titles, the Virtual Console version of Super Mario 64 features visuals vastly improved over its original cartridge release. This Mario runs in 480p, and is vibrant, crisp and totally smooth. The muddiness that plagued the N64 for years is gone now – it's almost worth downloading the game just to see how much better it looks now than 10 years ago.
Damn, I was irrationaly hoping for something involving Zombies and Typewriter ribbons. =(

I have a hombrew NES verision of the original Biohazard/RE. Its not half bad.
Have you tried "Sweet Home?" It was translated/patched a while ago.

Apparently a lot of the original RE developers used it as inspiration. It starts out a lot like the first RE - big spooky mansion, unexplained monsters, puzzles, etc.

Kind of an interesting setup, actually - you control a party, and each person has a specific skill to them. So one person is mechanical and can fix stuff. I think another is a medic and can heal people. And if someone dies, they can't be brought back.

Here's a wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Home_(video_game)

Now if this sort of thing showed up on the VC, I'd be very impressed.

Edit: Can't believe I forgot to add this. In Texas, there's actually a "Sweet Home." Has a sign pointing to it and such. I was kinda shocked, considering this was maybe a few weeks after discovering the game.

im downloading ocarina right now, ill let you guys know how it looks on my hdtv in a bit. as for the game, i think ill use the gamecube controller, i like it a lot more for the 64 games over the classic controller.

on a side note, i bought 1,000 wii points online through the wii, and they only charged my card 10 dollars, so no tax. im in california.

Please so.
I heard a lot of UK gamers saying it had a horrid framerate or something.

well i just playe the first bit of the game, beat the deku tree. i have to say that the game looks great (as great a 64 game can) its clean and has a very smooth framerate in widescreen 480p. i didnt experience any slowdown at all. it also looks like it has been cleaned up and looks better than the 64 version for sure. also, i thought it played much much smoother than the gamecube ports of the game, which i thought were very poor.

i played with the cube controller, and it was ok. i didnt think about the items being mapped to the c buttons, which are now an analog stick on the wavebird. so im going to try the cc for a bit.

i say its a must buy.

Nice.
I'll have to look into this.

Is it just me, or does anyone else not care too much about these releases (notably OoT) if they're already playing/have played Twilight Princess? I'm not saying it's not a great game, but I just can't bring myself to download it/play it yet. Maybe nostalgia will draw me back.

Anyway, I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but I'd kill for an N64 wrestling game on the VC. Preferably Wrestlemania or WCW/NWO Revenge. That would be heaven.

Well if their noteworthy enough that you enjoyed them in the past enough.
I'm one of the few people who never even played OOT at all (I know... shocker), so i'll prob get this. I never had an n64 period.

I'm waiting for Super Metroid.

that looks fun... where is this 'sweet home' you speak of in tx?

I've never played OOT and getting it for $10, with improvements, is awesome. It sucks how much TP is like OOT, almost like OOT 1.5, but oh well. It plays great and looks great too.

Really looking forward to the SNK games and Nintendo rewards for US gamers. You hear that Nintendo?

I fully recommend Chew Man Fu, quite a fun game. I can't find any good videos of it, and the official Hudson trailer barely shows any gameplay.

But here it is regardless.

If you have 600 points to blow, or have access to the rom, I suggest you give it a go.

Edit: Full videoreview here

Thanks evilmax. I think I will get Chew Man Fu when I get some points.

That Double Dragon remake looked great too!

oh snap, I didnt even know I had 1,200 points sitting there.. girlfriend offered to buy me 1,000 for OoT but instead shes goin to buy me 2,000 tomorrow and I already have OoT now, so hurrah for wii points you didnt know existedddd.

EDIT: OoT looks awesome! it's so clear on my HDtv, this makes me so happy :D

Haha, you won't believe this, but I found it driving between McAllen and College Station.

If you take HW 77 (between Giddings allllllll the way to Rivieria, a good 4 hour drive) and drive through Halletsville and Shulenburg, it's on the outskirts of one of those.

If and when I make the drive again, I'll pay more attention and let you know where exactly.

From getting that far in the game can you tell yet whether it's based off of the original release or the game cube? That early in the game I think the only real difference is what pattern is on the blocks

Eww. Is there a reason why you're forcing the game to play in widescreen?
It's a 4x3 game.

I tried to play Mario 64 in widescreen and just couldn't.
I just couldn't guys!

Ha, I watch regular tv in widescreen. It just stretches. I guess I just got used to it. So I play my games in widescreen as well. Im weird I know.

I just couldn't guys!
Sounds like you need a TV that hadles 4:3 signals better :) The TV I'vew got doesn't quite fill the screen for 4:3 content, but comes close without and noticable distortion. I'm sure if I had a 4:3 TV and it next to each other the difference would be seen, but just to look at it I'd never guess it was using a 4:3 original. The TV has a "fill" mode and a "panorama." Fill just stretches the image out; it looks awful. Panorama does some trickier stuff and looks very nice.
12 pages and no sticky? Do Mods even come into the Wii section?
If it makes you feel any better, my thread was at about 2000 posts before it got a sticky.

Not surprised. Ill PM one (Not sure who is even a mod of this forum). Maybe you could update your thread with LOCK in the title?

No, they don't. That's why you, or whoever, should talk to one of them and ask them instead of assuming it'll be stickied.

I have fill and panorama options as well, I'll try it.
But I"m VERY sceptical!
In the end though, native ratio is best.

I'll come after you if it doesn't work!

EDIT:
NO. Panorama does the little warp trick to try to make it look normal. Slightly better than fill mode. But still unplayable for me.
I'll just leave it Original Aspect Ratio.

Ya, they locked it days ago when I asked.

Im going on a road trip to California on Friday for my college spring break. 28 hour drive (crazy, I know). I wish there was some way to hook up the wii in my friends car. It would make the drive much more reasonable. lol. I remember doing that with my PS1 a long time ago. Don't remember how I did it.
quick question:

does Contra 3 have infinite continues?
It didn't have infinite continues on the SNES, so I'm sure it wouldn't on the VC.
quick question:

Nope. I wish it did because it's tough.

I'm pretty sure they sell one of those portable screens for the Wii already, or you could probably use the PSOne screen.

Well, if you have a big enough car, just get an power inverter and plug a television and the Wii into it.
Firefox backdoor says Super Ghouls and Ghosts will be arriving soon, possibly Monday. That's one I never tried out that is likely worth a download.

http://gonintendo.com/?p=13990

And Tecmo Bowl? Even the fact that it's visible, regardless of release timeframe, is delicious.

http://gonintendo.com/?p=14015
If we ever see Tecmo Bowl for NES, I'll eat my hat and put the video on YouTube. There'sjust absolutely no way they could ever get that NFL license.

IIRC, Tecmo Bowl did not have the NFL license, only Super Tecmo Bowl did.

youve never played SG&G mang? I like it better than the psp version, fo sho. definitely worth it if you havent killed yourself playing it before.
I was thinking the same thing, but I looked it up, and according to the guides on Gamefaqs, even the first one is licensed

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/nes/game/587684.html
Tecmo, Inc. was not able to get the NFL's consent to use real team names. As a result, the teams in the game are identified solely by their home city or state. However, each roster conveniently mimics that of the NFL team based out of the same city or state.
