Looks fine by my standards.

Milon's Secret Castle was a pretty fun under the radar game in its heyday. I'm not positive I'll like it as much as I remember.

For some reason, though, thinking about that game really puts me in the mood to play Faxanadu (to be clear, though, they're nothing alike).

FAXANADU? I love that game. I still have horrid memories of cringing a bit when I saw the creepy Priest(ess?) that gave you your mantra. My uncle randomly gave it to me for Christmas. I used to always mix it up with Astyanax, which I also loved. Damn 2 games I would buy in a heartbeat.

For those that haven't played Toe Jam & Earl II (lilboo), it's still Toe Jam & Earl, but in side-scrolling form. It's a fun platform-y game with the humor of TJ&E, but it lost some of the quirky enemies from the first game in favor of more 3-D versions of them.

I remember Milon's Secret Castle as being hard as hell.

For some reason, I'd really like to see Little Nemo released for the VC.

Little Nemo is made by Capcom, however based on a film/book. That might give it awhile for release.

Faxanadu is a Hudson Soft game, and they're a huge supporter so no worries there. Astyanax is a Jaleco game, they put out stuff on the JPN VC from what I gathered. So that means we should eventually get games like Tuff E Nuff and the Bases Loaded series.

Nintendo published Faxanadu, though, right?

Both Toe-Jams suck. I can't believe people like those games.

Zelda 2 is my second favorite in the series, but I won't be picking it up, even though I love the intro music.

Here's one thing I don't understand. People have been wanting Zelda II forever now, but now that it's out, it's getting nothing but hate.

The billionth schmup, turkeys in space and something that looks like a vertical Super Mario Bros. Man, it's a sloooooow week. If I didn't already have Zelda II on the Collector's Edition, I'd get it.

I'm the exact reverse.
I couldn't stand Zelda 2 but I enjoyed the Toejam games.

I may possibly go as far as saying Zelda 2 is one of my least fave of the zelda games (next to you know.... THOSE Zelda's that we may never speak of again).

I checked wiki and you are correct, the US version was published by Nintendo and that might explain why it has a Zelda-ish box art.

I'll be downloading Zelda 2 as soon as my free wii points show up. I played it to death, have the GC collection and the GBA classic version but I just love that game so much.

I just need to play Zelda II to convince myself it wasn't broken. I coudl probably do that by checking to see if the NES is still hooked up and throwing it in there. It had save files, didn't it? If so, I'm probably at the point I got stuck at 15 years ago still. But there's something about the need to go hook up the NES and load in a probably dusty cart that makes the VC so much less of a rip-off.

Adventure of Link is probably my favorite Zelda game. The fights actually felt difficult as opposed to the cakewalks of all the later games and there was less random wandering than the first one.

I also loved the first TJ & E, the second one didn't appeal to me.

Except for that thunder bird :bomb:

I hated that thing.

How is it we've seen 3 TJ&E games, and not 1 Metroid? Or that we've know got Zelda II, the ugly sister in the series, and not SMB 2 or 3?

Zelda II is a great game. I still remember being so insanely happy getting it for Christmas. I'd get it but I have it on the Collector's Disc. Milon's Secret Castle wow that's an oldie...kind of forgot about that game...that game kicked your ass back in the day.

Because Nintendo doesn't want to put all of it's games up at one time?

We have gotten way more big name Nintendo games than I thought we would at this point and time. Be glad it isn't like XBLA where you get one game a week.

Ack, didn't realize there was a new VC thread. I thought something was missing from my list of subscribed threads...

Nothing for me this week. Still waiting on Paper Mario :p

I've always found Zelda 2 to be a horrible game.
Sounds like some of you like it though so that's cool.

I really liked Zelda II back in the day. It was so completely different from LoZ but in a good way. I remember it being pretty damn hard, especially the Iron Knuckle knights. Those things were a bitch to kill!

But that was the entire point of that post. The Earthbound sequal(Mother 3) has not been translated, and apparently never will be. Just like the first game in the series never got a release outside of Japan either. So it's unlikely we'll get Earthbound on VC either; Nintendo seems to have given up on the series over here, to the point where they are not translating and releasing a game which would be a huge seller.

As for this week, nothing for me. I played enough Zelda 2 back in the NES days. I never could make it any further than Death Mountain, when you had to go through the maze of caves looking for the hammer I believe.

Where's the RPG's that made the SNES the best RPG system of all time. Come on Nintendo. I need Earthbound and Super Mario RPG sometime or another. The sooner the better.

Look away Roufuss! Look away!

Paper Mario is listed in the new Nintendo Power in the VC section, so it should be out soon, maybe next week.

um, the Wii still has a few years...so it might take a couple years to get the stuff like Earthbound and the like.

Yeah so I bet ActRaiser on Tuesday, what a good fucking game that was. The only problem was it was too fucking easy. I bet the game only losing all of my lives twice (one on like the 3rd of 4th lvl and one on the final boss), keep in mind I never played it before. We need a DS sequal pronto...
We need a DS sequal pronto...
They made an ActRaiser II, but I hear it sucked because they got rid of all the stuff that made the first one good.

All the free Wii points hoopla has made me go nuts on the NES games. I grabbed Zelda 2, Punchout, and Ice Hockey. Ice hockey is insanely competitive!

Now I have 600 points left but I have a couple more point cards on the way, did anyone get Splatterhouse?

Save your 600 :)

It's all platformer, and no sim.

But I have 2000 on the waaaay! And another 2000 pending!

So the UK got Balloon Fight, Dead Moon, and Adventures of Lolo. They got Super Mario 2 a couple weeks ago, so hopefully its on deck for us.

Just because they are free, doesn't mean it's still worth it.. lol
I have 11,000 in my account that's been there for quite sometime.

imo, the sim parts were kind of boring and not too interesting, so they got rid of the stuff (to me) that dragged the game down.
Just because they are free, doesn't mean it's still worth it.. lol

I thought so too! But when I was at the 9.000 level and I had a card I tried it..and..went through! The max I ever had in my account was 12,600. So, ::shrugs:: at if there's a limit.

There was also talk about 10,000 point limit on XBL, but I had 14,380 at one point.

Well that was 'The Lost Levels; for us...not the real Super Mario 2 that WE know (With Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad)

You're right, SM2 was released in the UK. I could have swore I saw Japan there.

Today isn't that exciting.

Lode Runner (NES)
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Gen) (ok, I love Sonic 2..)
Golden Axe II (Gen)

Lode Runner® (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): This landmark action-puzzle game has been a worldwide fixture in video games from the moment of its inception until today, producing many sequels and related products along the way. The player controls the hero, or "Runner," who collects gold nuggets located around every stage, all the while avoiding capture by enemy robots. The action itself is simple, but the stages are designed as increasingly challenging puzzles, and none of the 50 stages is as easy as it seems. The Runner avoids enemies by digging holes in the floor to the right and left of his position—by doing this, he can clear a path to places that, at first glance, seem unreachable. Players must use their brains to collect all the gold nuggets in every puzzling stage if they want to escape to the next. In addition to normal play, this version of the game features an Edit Mode that allows players to design their own stages, adding a new level of enjoyment to the game.

Sonic the Hedgehog™ 2 (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points): Dr. Eggman (aka Dr. Robotnik) is back to continue his zealous search for the Chaos Emeralds needed to fuel his new Death Egg contraption. The evil doctor secretly follows Sonic to his vacation spot, Westside Island, and launches a full-scale attack, imprisoning all the helpless animals of the island and turning them into mindless worker drones. Now Sonic must thwart the doctor's plans at all costs. This time he isn't alone, as a peculiar two-tailed fox named Miles Prower (aka Tails) decides to aid him in the battle. Together they must locate the Chaos Emeralds before Dr. Eggman does, and put an end to his diabolical scheme.

Golden Axe™ II (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older – Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): Not long after the devastating reign of the wicked Death Adder, another evil arose. Dark Guld and his minions invaded and took hold of the prized Golden Axe with plans to destroy it. Once again, as a fierce barbarian named Ax-Battler, a fearless female Amazon known as Tyris-Flare or a ferocious dwarf named Gilius Thunderhead, you will wield steely swords and powerful magic in an all-out war to recover the sword. Once you slash your way through the six side-scrolling levels, you'll get the chance to defeat Dark Guld once and for all.
