Still haven't managed to beat Super Metroid, to this day. There are a lot of SNES games I haven't beaten, but I chalk that up to childhood foolishness.

argh, the jungle level in Ninja Gaiden is unbelievable. I can't get past the first 30 seconds of the level. those damn birds!
Good grief!! First people bitch when there's too few games out, and now people are bitching because they're too MANY good games being released?? That's just stupid. Really, think about that for a second, and then tell me again why this is bad?

Nothing's making you d/l them immediately. You can always just buy them whenever y'know.
I was always one of the ones who didn't mind when they let their good VC releases trickle out, just so long as they came at a decent pace.

My main concern was, like I said, that they might be coming out at too quick a pace. Sure it's great now, but we have to think about 3-4 years from now too, and if all the AAA games have already been released, then imagine the bitching people would do then.

I would think that this would push nintendo to dip into the handheld library. It could also warrant investing in the use of other systems...i.e. the SATURN. Also, they are about to dump all sorts of goodness on us with the original wiiware games. So, I think we'll be alright. Give me my saturn, bitches.

I don't see them releasing handheld games on the Wii VC, but it's be a nice addition to the next incarnation of the DS.

I do agree with seeing Saturn games on the VC, however.

This guy on GAF........... kinda sad.

Check out my list! Yeah, I know you all think I'm crazy, but I LOVE the VC! Friends can come over and eventually find all their favorites on one system, without clicking anything, on the big screen. Yeah, yeah, I know there's other illegal ways of doing this, but I think it's just so convenient to have a tiny little box the size of 3 DVD cases hook up to your TV and play all these games in their original glory. Wanna know what I have so far? Check it out!

Sigh.

How many times do I have to heard "hurry up with the loading from SD cards!" nonsense until people realize it is entirely possible, you just HAVE TO DO IT ON YOUR OWN SYSTEM? And shut up - it's an anti-piracy thing. If you don't like it, don't buy the games, simple.

And yes, I want more channels and/or a folder system for the games, but stop acting like you can't offload what you have...

And yes, I want more channels and/or a folder system for the games, but stop acting like you can't offload what you have...
Wait, are you saying you can actually load the games from the SD card?

I'm not talking about transferring back and forth to free space and make room for other games (which is what he does) and something we all know we can do.

No, I'm talking about the transferring. You can't play them from the card, but you can move them to it and reload them later.

Not the best way I'm aware, but everyone acts like they can't do it.

I'd rather have the 'one system per channel' folder thing over loading from the SD card, personally.

Hey, what is the max size SD card the Wii can take?

I've always heard it was 2GB because anything larger is SDHC (or whatever that designation is) and thus not usable by the Wii. A firmware update has a very marginal chance of fixing that.

A better solution for the VC woes would have been to allow people to download the emulators without a game to the system. Then instead of each game having the emulator wrapped around it, you would grab the ROM itself (plus other materials like the instruction manual).

Then, instead of having 6 iterations of the emulator on the system for 6 SNES games, you have 6 games and 1 emulator.

Additionally, this would allow updates to be sent to the emulator itself, since I don't know if it is possible in the manner they have it set up now.

I think centralization is a very good thing and would help here immensely. I hope my ideas were discussed at some point and found to not work well, which is the only reason they are not being done as I suggest.

I think the likely reason for emulating each game separately is to give them the flexibility to tweak the emulator for each ROM.
I think the likely reason for emulating each game separately is to give them the flexibility to tweak the emulator for each ROM.
I dunno much about emulator programming, but what would stop them from building instructions into the emulator itself to handle such things?

If it were object oriented, seems like it could be done. I'll have to ask my programmer friend about it.
argh, the jungle level in Ninja Gaiden is unbelievable. I can't get past the first 30 seconds of the level. those damn birds!
Same here--it amazes me that I could run through these levels so easily when I was about 8 years old but now at 25 I'm terrible.

Reggie has stated before that VC games will act as a counter to any game droughts that they might be having. Since most people consider the first year of a console's lifespan to be somewhat of a game drought, maybe Nintendo is releasing some of its heavy hitters this year to alleviate that. Once games start to come out at a regular clip, we'll probably see the quality of the VC games start to decline for a while.

It also makes sense to release some of this AAA goodness in the first year for the people who have not purchased a Wii yet. Having that big list of Mario VC titles ready for purchase and download as soon as you buy a Wii sure seems better than the total crap we got for the first few weeks. I fully expect Nintendo to start touting the VC in their marketing when it gets closer to the holiday season.

I want that WiiWare title that was shown recently, where you rotate the screen or something.
Original game is interesting.

I bit on Wave Race. Damn nostalgia. I played hours of that game back in the day. The good news is; it has never looked this good and played this smooth. The bad news is I should've played my copy of Blue Storm before making my purchase.

Still I spent a couple hours on it last night.

*gapes at giant list of games purchased by guy on GAF*

At least he had the good sense to skip out on China Warrior, Mighty Bomb Jack, and Milon's Secret Castle, among others. Still, that's crazy...the volume on VC right now is 84800 points, 127 titles, and he's not that far off from having that.
And with each new release costing around/slightly more than a 2000 points card, it wouldn't be that hard to keep it up.
Metroid next week, then Super Metroid the week after would make sense. Draw in the money hard two weeks in a row.
Looks like I was correct from this mornings Wii Ware update. 13th brings Metroid, then Super Metroid on the 20th. Month of Metroid is correct!

The Original Metroid can live without in VC form since I have it in Zero Mission, but Super Metroid I'll eventually have to take the plunge on.

Here's a good idea that I think Nintendo should try: remake Metroid 2 (update graphics and spice up the controls) and release it on Wii Ware. Not a lot of people played, let-alone remember it, so this would be a good way to reintroduce people to the second game in the series.

I've been wondering about that as well. It seemed like SNK said we'd seem them this summer. I ain't got no Samurai Showdown yet though! "Metroid Month" seems like a good idea, but I'd like other things to happen concurrently, you know? Oh, and bonus, where are my other NES Castlevania's?

Dammit, couldn't sleep so I was going to download Lolo but instead I'm staring at Error Code 204038.

Sigh...

On the other hand, that dot spinning around the circle DOES kinda make me sleepy!...

This is odd, I wanted to redeem a points card before I went to bed and it said shop maintenence. Has that every happened before? Maybe they're updating more Wii Ware stuff. Hmmm..

Well, with the recent firmware upgrade, the Shop now has room for more consoles in the genre picker. So it can't be TOO far off.

I'd think they do it before the end of the year.. unless they are holding off for more Nintendo IPs first..

What other huge Nintendo IPs haven't been released on Virtual Console yet?

Metroid and Super Metroid are the big ones i can think of, and those come out in the next couple of weeks.

There's SMB3. But, I think that's coming Christmas Eve this year (like SMB last year). Neo Geo games take up like 200 mb. That's almost all of the Memory, meaning you'd have to delete almost all of your Channels before you could get one.
But I think they're trying to get something worked out where SD cards are registered to the system so you can play games from your SD card on your console.

That's my problem.
Some of these games are going to be huge and just take up all your "blocks".
And some are asking for Saturn and even Dreamcast games?

Still wish it had a HDD.

Original Metroid I can do without, only because I already have the same game 3 times(NES, Zero Mission, and Metroid Prime) and can already play it on my Wii if I want. Super Metroid though is by far the one game I've wanted most out of the VC. After this, I think the only huge wants I have left are Chrono Trigger & Earthbound, both of which are highly unlikely(though I could easily list another 20-30 games which would be must haves if added to the VC).

I'd call CT a maybe (we've got ActRaiser, after all), and Earthbound a definite. It's a first party game. It may be years before we see it, but I see no reason for them not to release it.

Lolo is terrific. It's a bit challenging because of certain things that aren't really covered due to the lack of a manual.
Like being able to push the "balled up enemies" and then walk on them in water, as if they were rafts.

Well worth the 5 bucks just because of how much it has made me think in order to solve some of the puzzles.

Yeah, that threw me when I encountered it. The game is a head-scratcher, that's for sure. And I'm only on the 4th floor!! What are there, like 50 floors I read?

No, just 10.

Since Metroid is this week, and Super Metroid is the week after...makes me wonder if they are even gonna give us anything ELSE good to go with these games. (Maybe not in comparison, but GOOD nonetheless)

This is actually kinda cool that they gave us release dates for certain games. They NEVER do this. I wish they would make big deals out of VC releases..or just give us some kind of time frame to expect some games.

At least with XBLA, we usually have an idea of what's coming out in that season. It's a 3-4 month span..but still.

Well Hudson lets us know what TG-16 games are coming on a month to month basis.

http://vc-pce.com/usa/e/index.html

Usually at the beginning of the month we get a pool, then mid-week they tack on a date to the game coming Monday. So this Monday we have Metroid and Cratermaze confirmed. I could see a Genesis game added to the lineup maybe.

Hmm.. Well on Friday, Europe got Volleyball for NES, Breath of Fire 2 for SNES, and Galaga '90 for TG16. Wonder if we'll get Volleyball or BoF2

I'd be surprised if we got BoF2 during Metroid month, but who knows. I'll have to get another points card when that one comes out.

Damn Nintendo. I gotta go get another card tomorrow....

Finally, I think I will be able to beat Metroid. I never have. I used to get a bunch of weapons but couldn't ever find Kraid or Ridley...
