VG are you going to be at the next ROH event here in MN?

Yes, what a huge fucking loss. The "three hours of awesome entertainment" amounted to about an hour's worth of stuff that was worth watching.

Nice main event though. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

Yeah, so Mark Briscoe just about killed himself right by me. Crazy rasslers.
Yeah, so Mark Briscoe just about killed himself right by me. Crazy rasslers.
I always thought it was more a "crazy Delaware hillbillies" thing with the Briscoes.

Tell us more about the show; I still really like with ROH does, though the worst thing about it can be going to a live event (being surrounded by 600+ smart smarks who absolutely *GUSH* at anything and everything done on the show, their perpetual hardon for *ANY* Japanese wrestler, and the fact that damn near every one of them is *enthralled* by the women on the show (despite their claimed preference for wrestling).

Guess I'll start off the Wrestlemania predictions:

- Chris Benoit makes MVP tap.
- Great Khalia pins Kane.
- Ashley pins Melina.
- New Breed defeats ECW Originals (Burke pins Dreamer).
- Jeff Hardy wins the MitB.
- Lashley pins Umaga after a Stunner from Austin; McMahon gets his head shaved.
- John Cena pins Shawn Michaels to retain.
- Undertaker pins Batista to become the new WHC.

Agreed... except I think the MitB is a toss up between J-Hard, Fit Finlay, and Mr. Kennedy.

Yep. It cracks me up how ROH supporters rip on TNA fans, but they do the same exact shit, just taking a more elitist attitude. I took a non-wrestling fan friend with me since I figured it would be an impressive show, and I was almost embarassed at how the crowd acted....and looked, but that's another can of worms. Fortunately he saw the humor in it and we wound up laughing at the ass-kissing chants and the douchebags that felt the need to stand up every time ANYTHING happened.

Oh, and if anyone cares, Observer says that Cena vs. HBK is going on last.

I agree on all counts save for the MITB; I think Finlay will take it.

I think I'm looking forward to the MitB the most since (to me) it seems pretty unpredictable - I can see it going a number of ways. Both the main events will be good if for nothing else than the crowd.

This will also be the first Wrestlemania I've watched on PPV, and the first PPV I've seen in 5+ years, so I'm looking forward to it.
Oh, and if anyone cares, Observer says that Cena vs. HBK is going on last.
Interesting. I can't help but think that the reason they're doing this is because the result between Taker and Batista is really well known. I still think UT will make Batista look like a million bucks, however.

Y'know, I can understand why people are upset that there are "only" 8 matches on the show. Personally, however, I had become bored with WrestleMania being too packed with matches. You get multiple 4-ways, Cruiserweight matches where guys are being pinned every 30 seconds, and so on. If this event gives more time to the other matches because they are fewer, that's good in the end, right?

I still think all the video packages are totally unnecessary, however, but they'll be there in full force. Taker v. Batista will probably get started by 9:15-9:30 (assuming Umaga/Lashley serves as a break match in between title matches). So, that's 2 hours for the other 5 matches. And let's be honest, the women's match will take up 10 minutes or less, all video packages considered.

4 matches in two hours, then? Great. Or is it? Going through those matches, we know Kane/Khali won't be that long (15 minutes at the absolute most), nor will MVP/Benoit (18 at the most). That gives you an hour and 15 minutes for MITB and the ECW match. If the ECW match is elimination, then it will go on for 20 minutes plus. If it's one fall to a finish, then maybe 8?

The more I look at the lineup, the more I think I'll be amazed if the show is still going on by 10:30.
Oh, and if anyone cares, Observer says that Cena vs. HBK is going on last.
So, they're breaking their own tradition of having the match for whoever won the rumble going on last?

Hopefully it isn't true.

I'm just bummed there's no cruiserweight title match. Think back to the WCW PPV's, and there was almost always a random cruiserweight title match to open the show. Nine times out of ten, it was a pretty good match as well. With Chavo holding the belt, let him, Helms, and Yang have a ten minute triple threat to get the crowd hot for the rest of the show.
So, they're breaking their own tradition of having the match for whoever won the rumble going on last?

WWE sees Raw as their 'A' show and is going to continue to push it the hardest, I suspect, so having the Raw main event end the show makes sense from that perspective. Not that I necessarily agree with the decision, mind you.

My predictions would be:

- Chris Benoit makes MVP tap
- The Great Khali pins Kane
- Melina pins Ashley due to interference (I'm hoping to WWE has noticed Ashley is getting over as well as a lead balloon)
- New Breed defeats ECW Originals (Burke pins RVD)
- Orton wins the MitB
- Lashley pins Umaga; Austin stuns McMahon and then him and Trump shave his head
- HBK pins John Cena to become the new WWE champ
- Undertaker pins Batista to become the new WHC

So kind of like a bizzaro WM21
So, they're breaking their own tradition of having the match for whoever won the rumble going on last?

I think it's just mostly because they see Cena as the face of the company.

Predictions:
MVP over Benoit since Benoit is supposedly switching to Raw
Khali over Kane, probably with an injury angle since Kane needs time off
Ashley over Melina
New Breed over Originals
Orton wins MITB
Lashley over Umaga
UT over Batista
Cena over HBK

Under normal circumstances I could see Orton winning the MitB easily, but I think Orton getting suspended after Wrestlemania will become an annual event...

Oh Carlito, I hope you enjoy the doghouse.

DETROIT -- While many of WWE's superstars are trading punch for punch, kick for kick, headlock for headlock and table for table at tomorrow night's Wrestlemania, Carlito will be backstage watching, unhappy to be on the sidelines.

"I'm out of Wrestlemania," he says. "Apparently, they had to make space for Kane vs. Khali and Melina vs. Ashley. How can I be at Wrestlemania? If I politic and kiss ass, I should make it.

"I'm not going to cry or be bitter, there's always next year ... and I don't want to get fired. But they're showing disrespect by not having Ric Flair at Wrestlemania and even more disrespect by not having Carlito there."

He doesn't like the role he has been given, that of a fan favourite, saying, "I absolutely hate being a babyface more than anything else."

I really have to agree with Carlito though. He is much better as a heel and there is no way he shouldn't be at wrestlemania fighting Flair.

Why be bummed? WWE has *NEVER* allowed cruiserweights to shine in matches. The champions are treated like dirt (who the hell *IS* the current champion?), the matches so controlled and constrained so they don't show up the main event guys, it's absurd.

But it's been that way for over a decade, with TAKA Michinoku, Essa Rios, and those guys.

It's not going to change anytime soon. It won't ever change as long as WWE thinks it's necessary to book each and every wrestling match in a relative sense (in making all the cruiserweights wrestle the same kind of punch-punch-rope-punch-punch-rope style that the heavies do). If TNA fired Vince Russo and got two hours, they would have the opportunity to do it right, but I don't really forsee that happening either.

As for Carlito, good for him. See you in OVW, pal.

I read a report today from an autograph signing that Carlito saw someone wearing a CM Punk shirt and told the guy that Maria broke up with Punk because she caught him in bed with another guy.

I know, I know. It's just that $50 for 8 matches is absurd. I'm just playing fantasy booker and trying to fill the gaps.

Funny how in just three years, John Cena goes from opening the show to the main event, and Chris Benoit (likely) does the opposite.

Well, if the 8 matches were not restrained or controlled in the way WWE does, then it doesn't matter, IMO. A show with only one Steamboat/Savage is still a helluva show. But the WWE strangely decides to tie people to scripts in their promos, restrict what they do in the ring, and then get pissed when they aren't getting over.

Though, to be perfectly clear, there's not a damn thing on that card that looks like it has Steamboat/Savage potential. Not a damn thing.

Good eye on the Cena/Benoit thing.

Anyone remember the La Resistance/Los Luchas match from ECW a few weeks back?

I was talking to one of Los Luchas last Tuesday, and he mentioned that prior to taping ECW, Bradshaw had them go over their entire match, Snitsky run-in included before the match. By "go over", I mean "wrestle the entire match without a camera". Supposedly La Resistance could NOT get the finish down, leading to Bradshaw getting pissed and rewriting their match. It was so bad that Bradshaw himself had to show Sylvan how to properly powerbomb a 170lb. wrestler because Sylvan couldn't get him up.

Following the match, Bradshaw gave each of the jobbers an extra $50 for putting up with La Resistance in the ring.

Random, but Dave Meltzer is reporting that
Rey Mysterio interfering for Trump
could be the deciding factor in the hair vs hair match.

Oh shit... breaking news from Dave Meltzer......
In a surprising move by TNA and WWE, preliminary negotiations have started for WWE to buy TNA. This comes as a shock to many in TNA since the Carters have given the impression that things were running the course and they had an overall 5 year plan for the company. Spike TV has been happy with TNA's ratings and TNA has started running more house shows this year. While details are sketchy, the word is that Bob Carter needed to get out considering that the company has yet to turn a profit since Panda Energy purchased the company. There is no word on wrestler contracts but I have heard that WWE is interested in at least a few talents, namely Samoa Joe and AJ Styles. BJ James and Kip James have a decent shot of returning to the company since they have sent out feelers in recent weeks about returning. More in the next issue.
April Fools.

Just got back from ROH night 2. Enjoyed it more than last night, and recommending the shit out of this one when it shows up on DVD. B.J. Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs had an insane cage match, and the all Dragon Gate main event was outstanding if a little overdone (NO ONE WOULD STAY DOWN FOR ANYTHING).

HORSE, I didn't talk to you yet. If you see this meet me at near the 229/230 entrance during the women's match. I'll be easy to spot, I'll be the big guy wearing the Devil Customer CAG shirt.

Most of my pics turned out crappy, but here are a few ok ones:

Nigel McGuiness and that Johnny Fairplay guy.

roh05.jpg

Colt saves Homicide from a 2-on-1, setting up Homicide/Cabana vs. Pearce/Albright.

roh03.jpg

I just like this one. They did the Japanese "AAAAHH!! YOU CANNOT HIT ME HARD ENOUGH TO HURT ME! LET'S TRY AGAIN!" thing.

roh02.jpg

Main event postmatch.

roh01.jpg

CIMA was over as fuck. On a related note, there was a running joke started in our section, "IF CIMA WINS, WE RIOT."

So I take my friend back to his car in the mall parking lot 30 minutes away, and THIS ominious vehicle is coincidentally parked for the night right by his ride:

roh06.jpg

Gotta love the non-involved Hogan being practically front and center.

Best chant of the night would be "LET'S GO MAVEN!" for Rocky Romero. Also, when the guy was sweeping up in the ring after the cage match, there were several hilarious chants towards him, most notably "YOU SWEPT UP" and "THANK YOU BITCH" when he was done.

Was kind of cool because there were some fans there from Japan...you'd occasionally hear a female voice calling out the name of one of the Japanese wrestlers like you'd hear on a tape from Japan. I had wanted to see Dragon Kid in person ever since I saw him in Fire Pro.

Heck, on the way out a young(er than me) Japanese guy who had made the trip here asked me if I would take a picture of him and his girlfriend with one of those disposable cameras. Him saying "thank you" and me saying "do itashi mashite" was certainly a life highlight. Or not.

I like that I don't watch rasslin any more, been just about a year and for once I don't feel like I'm going to "miss anything" at Wrestlemania, I doubt I'll even remember that it's on.

That's part of why I'm finishing up this week. I don't think I'm missing anything anymore if I miss a show, and I've seen everything they can show me.

We had some friends over last night to celebrate a birthday and recently discovered pregnancy. I had mentioned my pro wrestling fixation, and a friend's boyfriend said "oh, my friend learned to be a wrestler." Long story short, he grew up with BJ Whitmer, and they occasionally hang out when he's in town.

He had a good laugh b/c he only knew BJ wrestled, and doesn't know about ROH or anything that wasn't childhood-era WWF.

Well, enjoy Wrestlemania tonight if you're going or ordering it. I have to revise a paper for a conference presentation on Wednesday, and, frankly, $50 is waaay too steep, so I'll have a boring working night at home.

I got the 4/4 Observer on Allen Coage yesterday, I read through it overnight, and if you ever buy one Observer bio issue, make it this one, as it is incredible. 3/4 of the publication is devoted to this man's life, and it's the most extensive bio I've ever read in the Observer. It's got stories about him from the memorial service, and even a fascinating story told by the Rock to Meltzer, and one told to him by Rock's grandmother.

If Hooters wasn't 50 miles away I wouldn't mind doing that myself. No way in hell I'm paying $50 for this Wrestlemania.

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a big logo of WWE, wrestlemania.

The logo is two W in grey underlined by a red feature.

Can you send me that at [email protected] or give the adress here.

Thx a lot.

Was the other guy Edge?

1. I expect WWE to hotshot the US title over to MVP, pinning Benoit

2. The New Breed is heavily expected to go over the Originals, mainly because the originals will probably be phased out sooner than later. Oh well. Burke gets the pin if this is one fall to a finish.

3. MITB3 - I'm thinking Edge will win this, yet again and enter a program with Orton over the title shot. I'd really like to see Jeff Hardy win though.

4. Trump/Lashley vs McMahon/Umaga - I'm hoping this is like the Simpsons episode where Homer and Flanders ended up mowing each others lawns in Marge and Maude's Sunday dresses. Alas, WWE isn't that creative, and I just can't see Trump getting his head shaved. So, Lashley wins via pinfall.

5. Khali vs Kane - Kane is supposed to face Mark Henry next... anyhow, Khali is unlikely to lose here as WWE supposedly plans on pushing him at some point. I'll take Khali, by pinfall if possible, DQ if necessary. Although, a WM DQ is very lame.

6. Ashley vs Melina - Rumor has it Melina is going over here, rumor also has it if Melina doesn't put on a good show she's gonna get the axe. Contradicting rumors? Anyway, Ashley is too unreliable, I'm leaning towards Melina to hold the belt on Raw.

7. Taker vs Batista - Taker, c'mon now, Vince would be risking riots if Batista wins this one. Taker scores the pin and wins the WHC in the same city he won his first WWE heavyweight title.

8. Cena vs Michaels - Cena, we've Cen-more than-A nuff. Gag me, oh well, it's WM, I'll enjoy it somehow or another. I'm hoping for crazy interferences here, either way Cena is likely to pin Michaels to end the show.

I'm expecting a tag team match, possibly a battle royal to kick things off, and Chavo to drop the cruiserweight title at some point tonight, as he's rumored to be leaving the WWE.

From Meltzer:

Some late notes for tonight's show. John Cena is supposed to have the biggest entrance on the show. Something of a "Motor City" theme with cars. The Money in the Bank match will open the show, which means we should all pity who is slotted second because it's pretty much a lock that match is being designed to not only steal the show, but be one of the most memorable Wrestlemania matches ever. Undertaker vs. Batista is laid out to be a "powerhouse brawl." As noted, they are both motivated because they wanted to go on last. As noted before, Cena vs. Michaels will close the show. Last night, every mention of Cena and showing of Cena brought gigantic boos and everything regarding Michaels got cheers. Of course, that's 4,000 25+ year old male fans as opposed to 75,000 or so who will be at the show. Still, the company does expect Cena to be booed out of the building, so if it happens, nobody is going to be surprised. Shane McMahon was pushing to open the show doing the same role that Vince did, to stand in the ring as the host and perhaps introduce Aretha Franklin. Stephanie was trying to bury the idea to anyone who would listen. There will also be a dance contest of some sorts with people that will include Eugene, Fabulous Moolah, Mae Young and the return after maybe 15 years of the one-time Dr. of Style, Slick.
Dusty's speech tonight was fantastic, and since tonight featured edited stuff, it'll probably be even better on the DVD.
It'll probably be added to the WM DVD. It's just like last year's where they trimmed Bret Hart's speech from 30 minutes to 5 minutes.

Also, seems that Foley's big surprise after WM will be him as the Raw GM.
