Wasn't allowed to purchase it? By who? I've always suspected the employees keep some of the 'better' shit for their friends/family, but I woulda been pissed and most likely demanded the manager let me buy that. Then again, with my recent track record with used electronics from Salvation Army I don't think I'd bite on an item there unless it had a box with it with the receipt in it showing it was just purchased a week earlier.
Having been married once, I'm assuming that there was a significant other, or possibly a parent, that prevented said purchase.

All the Goodwills I go to use stickers. Also, any video games that don't sell on clearance at Target get donated to Goodwill, so if you are there on the right day, you can get games cheaper than the lowest Target clearance price.

I have the unfortunate fortune of living between two goodwill districts. One is great, different color price stickers (that have rotating sales between half price and 99 cents), clean stores, nicely organized. The other is shit, they write on the items with marker (and shit never goes on sale... maybe a half price day once a month or so), dirty stores, poorly organized (though it's fun looking at the clothes as a whole... they organize by color, not size, it's like a big rainbow ).

This $150 HDTV was a 22 Haier TV. It was "as is" and unplugged. For $30 more, you can get a Philips 22 inch at Wal-mart, brand new and with warranty.

 That'd be the day someone prevents me from buying what I want. Although I probably shoulda listened the other day.:bomb: Around my area, there's ALWAYS a reason someone donates a piece of electronic equipment that is normally hundreds of dollars new, usually because it's a halfway broken pos.

They do the same thing here. Of course that makes it infinitely easier to find the tie dye shirts I always go in looking for.;) But some of the prices here are mind boggling. They want $6-7 for a ratty ass shirt I could buy new at Kmart/Target on clearance for sometimes even cheaper.

I won't be able to go back today sorry :/
I could probably go tomorrow though.
The disc was in pretty bad shape though :(

There is always a reason electronics are donated here too, so I wouldn't put money into a large purchase of a newer item. Of course if we are talking older items like the SNES for example its possible the reason could be because its not the newest thing out and its old. You have to watch more with newer items that are more breakable than sturdy old things like the SNES, N64 etc and we all know NES's can be fixed easily so those are a go if you find one and its a good price.

Thing is, I registered the unit I bought with Sony the other night and went through their repair process rigamarole. I said I just bought it the other day and they quoted me only $11 for shipping as they said it was IN warranty.

Only problem is they want a specific name of a store I bought it from(no generic 'other' listing will do apparently:roll:) and they need a copy of the receipt to show where I bought it or I'd have immediately paid the $11 for shipping and got a UPS label and sent it out via the UPS store already.;)

If I think about it I'll go back and see if maybe I missed a generic 'other' listing somewhere and change the possible work order if I do. Then I'll photocopy the SA receipt and send that in the box.:D

Saw a complete Super Mario Bros 2 for the nes on the shelf and when I picked it up the cartridge wasn't in there. Also saw blades of steel for the nes with no cartridge in the box either. Somebody ripped off goodwill.

I wouldve brought them up and made an offer anyways. mightve got them for free

Someone is constantly ripping off my local store, taking discs out of newer games, removing UMDs from PSP cases. Seriously, it's a charitable organization, how much lower can you get?

The fact that Goodwill & the Salvation Army are charities makes it so much worse. My Goodwill is now keeping most of their games in a glass case by the register. Though, some games end up tucked away with the CD's because of different people stocking the shelves(I assume).

Yeah, because people are piece of shit no-gooders, my thrift stores had to start doing this as well

Today was the day of passing on things for me. I passed on the following:

2 Gamecube controllers for $4.99 each - I had these in my cart for about 20 minutes before I decided to take a closer look at them, only to find out that the left analog stick on both controllers had been thoroughly chewed on by what I'm assuming to be a dog. Real bummer there.

Disc only copies of :pS1: Tekken 3 and :xbox: Dead or Alive 3 for $4.99 each - I really wanted these, but I wasn't willing to pay $4.99 for disc only.

Donkey Kong Bongos for $9.99 - Kinda dirty and you can get them on eBay for cheaper.

Rock Band Drum Set for $9.99 - Now this I should have gotten, but it was missing the drumsticks and I don't even have Rock Band for 360.

NES system and 7 games for $32.00 - The games were Metroid, Iron Tank, Castlevania 2, The Adventures of Link, Baseball Stars, Excitebike, and Ghosts and Goblins. The price was just a bit too steep for me and I didn't feel like haggling today.

So yeah, all in all, some bad luck today.

do they need "Rock Band" drum sticks?
I will buy it from you for $5:D

I see them DK bongos for $3 occasionally at my GW, I picked up one cus I also found DK Jungle Beat. That was a good $7 day. Im still on my GW no find streak, saw 2 SNES controllers today but passed cus I still have 6 boxed ones I bought off Ebay just for SNESs I find at Thrift Stores or yardsales this summer.

I don't know how you guys get such good deals. I stopped by my local thrift and goodwill today to check out what they had. I haven't been there in a while since they don't usually have anything good.

Today I saw about 40 NES games, all loose but in good condition, I thought I might actually catch a break. NOPE. Each of the game was priced at at least $14.99 each, many of them, such as the gold Legend of Zelda 2 were $20+. I've really come to hate the people who run this thrift shop. They get the shit for free as donations and still decide to be pricks about the pricing.

Found this at Goodwill today for 9.99. Not the greatest score or anything, but since I have never owned one, I feel the amount I paid for it was nice to own a piece of gaming history.

As long as it works ten dollars is a great price. The only time I've seen one was at a pawnshop and it was 30 dollars just for the system. I remember a kid laughing about how big it was and asking what it was used for.
I have that exact case. Got it back in 1995 when it was bundled with the Game Gear, Sonic 2 & World Series Baseball '95.

Speaking of the Game Gear, has anyone noticed that the screen on theirs has gone downhill terribly? I have to angle my wrists awkwardly to even be able to see it now.:cry::cry:

It works just fine, I can't believe this thing take 6 AA batteries to run though. It's a battery beast! Only downfall is there is no power adapter for a wall with it, only the car charger one :<

The screen seems like it's not as bright as it once may have been. it looks like there are some lines on the screen that are brighter than others, but can't complain much for ten bucks. On a side note though, what are all the spaces in the case used for? It feels like some of the items in there don't fit right, or are not meant for the space I put them in.

I think one space might have been for the TV Tuner.

Shoplifting is bad enough here that just about all media, video games, or other merchandise of any value whatsoever gets locked in the jewelry case. It's a big pain in the ass because half the time they either just toss items in and the whole case is a complete mess, with no ability to see any items or any prices, or worse they just stack items in a way so you can't see any game titles or prices, and have to hope you can find an employee to assist you.

I can't figure out if that would be an upgrade over looking through a stack of 500 cds or not for games. I suppose you have a better chance of finding something by putting in the work rather than it being advertised up front where anyone can see it and buy it.

Some of the Good Wills around here now use clear packing tape to tape jewel cases shut to prevent theft.

I just pull the hinge and open from that side to check for scratches on disks. Hopefully they don't start taping around the whole case.

It just takes a genesis AC adapter, if you have a genesis around take a look at the model number on the adapter and model number on the game gear and see if they match up then use it. I have one with a HUGE battery pack, and surprisingly the battery pack still works. I imagine you could rewire the battery pack with new batteries if you really wanted to and if you had the time and skill to do that.

The Game Gear screen issues are actually caused by a bad batch of capacitors - it happens to just about every single GG model eventually - aside from the apparently better made Majesco (purple start button) models.

If you've got some soldering skill, it's a pretty easy replacement from what I understand, though I haven't gotten around to doing my own yet.

No games at Good Will today, although they had 4 PlayStations, console only, all marked different prices. $15 difference between the highest and lowest, it was strange.

I think the battery pack you are referring to I got with this bundle as well. Didn't know the Genesis trick, thanks for that!

I have tried soldering blue LEDs on my ROL board for my modded xbox 360, but failed miserably so I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to do this, shame really. Thanks for the info though.

Some days I hate you Goodwill. Today is that day.
When I see a stack like that, I wonder about the games that may have been cherry-picked 20 minutes earlier. "Was there a Crash Bandicoot, FFX, some RPGs, maybe Suikoden???"

I hope you took the time to check the discs, just in case. I had one of those moments a week ago, but I checked the case and there was a copy of Megaman Legends 2 in it.

today i found these at a goodwill:

Metal Gear Solid Collection ps2 $10 it is mint
Wing Commander 3 PS1 $4
Wing COmmander 4 PS1 $4
Myst III xbox $4
THPS 2 N64 $3 (to add to my ever growing skateboarding game collection)

I try not to think that way, as I've inquired about enough collections to know that some people just happen to end up with all commons. If there was a good collection that got nuked, chances are there'll be some $5-8 games that don't insta-sell (or even worse, the time I found a Lunar sticker sheet in with some strategy guides).

Also if my collection ever got donated, there would not be any sports games
I try not to think that way, as I've inquired about enough collections to know that some people just happen to end up with all commons.
I just know that I have often left sports games behind after picking out desirable games (either for my own collection or flipping).

Picked up at the GW Yesterday for .95 each all NES carts in great shape had a big stack of other games but nothing to great

Super Mario 2
Dr Mario
Super C
Metroid

Not all the games/cd's, etc. are stolen. Talked to a manager, and apparently some of these items are donated without game, disc, etc. and stocked on the shelf without the workers double checking that the item is in the case.

Finally found some stuff at SA. Genesis games $.25 each, cart only.

Toy Story
Super Battleship
Tecmo Super NBA Basketball
World Series Baseball '95
Jurassic Park Rampage Edition
Mortal Kombat 3
ToeJam & Earl: Panic on Funkotron
The Magic Schoolbus (lol?)

Also :pc: Star Wars: Dark Forces $2.

I found a copy of Bone volume 2 for 50 cents. Not that great, except for the Kmart giftcard that still had $5 on it stuck in the pages :D
