I just got back from that, too. And fuck, I can safely fucking say, that is the fucking worst fucking movie I have fucking seen in a long fucking time. When they fucking say 'Welcome to the suck', they're fucking referenceing the fucking movie theatre. I can fucking realize that they're fucking attempting to show how fucking hard life as a fucking soldier is, but damn, that is the fucking most un-fucking-entertaining movie ever. fuck.

Tipreth you need to check yourself. Sorry the movie wasn't full of action to make you blow a load in your pants, but this is what it truly is like, no fabrication. Maybe if you served your country you'd understand. You can't relate because your pansy ass is probably safe behind a cubicle, you can never imagine what is like to feel tomorrow might not be here. Now I know this is not the mentallity of all who haven't served so you can just read on. For all who speak in such a manner towards a subject that is presented in its truest form I get pissed. Have some respect, if you didn't like it that is fine, but war and military life isn't suppose to be entertaining.

Ha Ha I was expecting it but...Thats like just your opinion, man.

I found out that it was based of a book about the main character.

I've had a moment to think it over and I went a little overboard on my initial response. I know it is your opinion of a movie Tiphireth, but being a veteran I take this to heart. I've seen the heartache of losing a comrade or seeing some guys wife/girlfriend fucking "Jody". This movie lets the masses see what soldiers go through, granted everyone has problems, but in wartime those problems are amplified. I respect your opinion I just felt that I needed to speak on behalf of people who have been there. If you want to know how it is to be a soldier in Iraq, even right now, you need to see this movie. Sorry again Tiphireth

ack, it gets confusing when different users use the same avatar, I was wondering why in another thread the poster praised the film, and here the poster hated it, until I determined they were different users using the same avatar.

Oh and I watched Bubba Ho-tep again.

No problem, but don't get me wrong- I have the utmost adoration and respect for our soldiers. You don't need to speak on their behalf, I'm fully cogniscent of how they feel. Anyone who knows me knows that I adore our soldiers and civil servants at home; this review was hardly meant to cast any sorts of disparages upon them. I'd like to take the time to point out that if you haven't read any of whoknows's reviews, mine would seem pretty harsh. Anyway, back to the movie. I can understand, as I said, that the movie was representing the troubles that the soldiers go through in Iraq.

The problem for me is, I thought that the film would be an action flick- something more akin to Over There than a drama detailing exclusively the problems that a soldier faces. But that was a misunderstanding on my part. But even then, there were some parts that I found distasteful, such as when the main character is jerking off on the shitter; when they enact the gay orgy scene for the news cameras; as well as the ending where they're firing off the four SAWs that the scout sniper battalion suddenly procured. The death of the spotter at the end went unexplained, as well as the problems with the main character's sister. I'd also like to protest their ripping off of Full Metal Jacket when the main soldier goes after the grenadier for lighting the flare truck ablaze.

The jerking off scene though tasteless reveals the feeling Jake has lost for his girl, could have portrayed this another way. I think the orgy thing is something the guys always did within the confines of there barracks and thought they would spring it on the cameras because the knew their Staff Seargeant would remove them. As for the other two I can't justify them. Hopefully in the next five years they will develop something of this quality for OEF and OIF VETS. It seems most veterans want that one movie that they can relate with whether it be "Full Metal Jacket" for Nam or "Green Berets" for all thos SF guys.

I'm trying to get through some of my backlog before "that-which-shall-not-be-named" strikes again this month.

Three Colors: Blue - I was very impressed, all around.
Man on the Moon - Jim Carrey was excellent; I loved this movie.
Boys Don't Cry - Incredible film, extremely powerful.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - easy on the eyes, great for the first 45 minutes or so...then, "meh." Worst performance from Johnny Depp I've ever seen, I thought he was absolutely terrible.
The Hobbit - kind of like pissing on my favorite novel.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Even though I only saw the second half (watching the first half now), this was a great movie. An extremely well-done movie by Spielberg. I may have to pick it up when it's on sale anytime soon.

House of Wax, the new one, mildly entertaining at times, though it completely defires logic. There's usually at least one decent bit in a Dark Castle picture, and this time it was ending sequence in the House.

Of course it's true. But how can you hate a movie that kills Paris Hilton? T'is but a dream.

I actually didn't hate it, it's more of a neutral feeling toward, not really worth the price of a rental, but would have probably been worth a watch on a premium channel. Oh, and she was one of the last people to die so you have to suffer through her for most of the movie. I watched a few of the special features on the disc and in an interview Hilton mentions how they tricked her into doing the "search for the lip gloss" in the car scene. Not exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer is she, not like that is too surprising

Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist, decent flick, up until the whole possession part, then it got a bit wonky for about 20-25 minutes until the "temptation"
The Ring - Rather have not watched it.
Because it sucked or because it's giving you nightmares now?
Very good choice. All the glass at the end... ouch!

Indeed, I've seen it before, you can just FEEL the pain radiating from the screen

True Romance

Kinda stupid and shallow, but sometimes really damn fun. It has its ups and downs, but it's fairly good overall.

Love Letter

a Japanese movie (subtitled) I watched with the Japan club at my school,
the title sounds stupid, but I actually enjoyed it more than I thought I would,

its about a Japanese woman whose fiance dies in a mountain climbing accident,
after a memorial for him, she goes home with his mother to his home where his mother shows her his high school year book,
she finds his address in it, but it turns out that its been replaced by a highway,
so she decides to write to the address, kind of like writing a letter to him,
and somehow gets a reply,
the movie is about the fiance and the person on the other side of the letter, its actually preety good
The Warriors.
Hopefully the game is better.
WHAAAATTT?
The Warriors is classic. It might not be LOTR quality, but its very entertaining.
CAN YOU DIG IT?

Born into Brothels

Great documentary, does a fantastic job of bringing out hope in probably one of the most hopeless places there is.

100 times better. I felt cheated after watching the movie. Bye bye $20

I'm gonna watch The Devil's Rejects tonight, right after I drive the 45 minutes to my friends' house.

EDIT: fuckers just cancelled on me, so I guess I'll be watching it here.

Crash

A real mixed bag. It likes to veer between powerful, poignant moments and annoying heavy-handedness, and I'm not really sure which one wins out in the end.

fucking brilliant. Few movies these actually make you care about the characters, but somehow this one did. That's quite a feat, considering that they're mass murderers.

It was also funny as hell.

Seen it, heavy-handedness IMHO.

Just got finished watching the Battlestar Galactica miniseries.

Saw II

Made a 45 minute drive to go and see it and it was worth it. It was fucking insane just like the first one and I was tripping balls at the end. I loved the first one better just because but II was a pretty damn good.

The Straight Story

A really great film, warm and lovable, very different from the usual Lynch fare, but it retains his usual high level of quality, and may be his most beautiful film.
